One of the central problems in epigenetics is how epigenetic modification patterns and chromatin structure are regulated in the cell nucleus. The polymer Potts model, a recently studied model of chromatins, is introduced with an offset in the interaction energy as a parameter, and the equilibrium properties are investigated using the mean-field analysis of the lattice model and molecular dynamics simulations of the off-lattice model. The results show that in common with both models, a phase emerges, which could be called the compact-disordered phase, in which the polymer conformation is compact and the epigenetic modification pattern is disordered, depending on the offset in the interaction energy and the fraction of the modified nucleosomes.

Game theory on graphs is a basic tool in computer science. In this paper, we propose a new game-theoretic framework for studying the privacy protection of a user who interactively uses a software service. Our framework is based on the idea that an objective of a user using software services should not be known to an adversary because the objective is often closely related to personal information of the user. We propose two new notions, O-indistinguishable strategy (O-IS) and objective-indistinguishability equilibrium (OIE). For a given game and a subset O of winning objectives (or objectives in short), a strategy of a player is O-indistinguishable if an adversary cannot shrink O by excluding any objective from O as an impossible objective. A strategy profile, which is a tuple of strategies of all players, is an OIE if the profile is locally maximal in the sense that no player can expand her set of objectives indistinguishable from her real objective from the viewpoint of an adversary. We show that for a given multiplayer game with Muller objectives, both of the existence of an O-IS and that of OIE are decidable.

The $S=1/2$ quantum spin ladder system with the anisotropic ferromagnetic exchange interaction on the rung under magnetic field is investigated using the numerical diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) analyses. It is found that the nematic-spin-correlation-dominant Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) appears in some high magnetic field. It is included in the TLL phase where the two-magnon bound state is realized. For some suitable parameters, after the field-induced phase transition from this two-magnon-bound TLL phase to the single-magnon TLL one, the re-entrant transition to the two-magnon-bound TLL phase occurs, which is confirmed by the magnetization curves by the DMRG. Several phase diagrams on the plane of the coupling anisotropy versus the magnetization and the magnetic field are presented. The present result is a proposal of the candidate system which exhibits the spin nematic phase without the biquadratic interaction or the frustration.

The previous level spectroscopy analysis indicated that two different magnetization plateau phases appear at half of the saturation magnetization. One is due to the large-$D$ mechanism and the other is due to the Haldane one. In the present study the phase diagram is extended to wider region of the anisotropies. As a result we find another half magnetization plateau phase, where the translational symmetry is spontaneously broken .

Nominal set plays a central role in a group-theoretic extension of finite automata to those over an infinite set of data values. Moerman et al. proposed an active learning algorithm for nominal word automata with the equality symmetry. In this paper, we introduce deterministic bottom-up nominal tree automata (DBNTA), which operate on trees whose nodes are labelled with elements of an orbit finite nominal set. We then prove a Myhill-Nerode theorem for the class of languages recognized by DBNTA and propose an active learning algorithm for DBNTA. The algorithm can deal with any data symmetry that admits least support, not restricted to the equality symmetry and/or the total order symmetry. To prove the termination of the algorithm, we define a partial order on nominal sets and show that there is no infinite chain of orbit finite nominal sets with respect to this partial order between any two orbit finite sets.

A magnetic skyrmion induced on a ferromagnetic topological insulator (TI) is a real-space manifestation of the chiral spin texture in the momentum space, and can be a carrier for information processing by manipulating it in tailored structures. Here, we fabricate a sandwich structure containing two layers of a self-assembled ferromagnetic septuple-layer TI, Mn(Bi$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$)$_{2}$Te$_{4}$ (MnBST), separated by quintuple layers of TI, (Bi$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$)$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ (BST), and observe skyrmions through the topological Hall effect in an intrinsic magnetic topological insulator for the first time. The thickness of BST spacer layer is crucial in controlling the coupling between the gapped topological surface states in the two MnBST layers to stabilize the skyrmion formation. The homogeneous, highly-ordered arrangement of the Mn atoms in the septuple-layer MnBST leads to a strong exchange interaction therein, which makes the skyrmions "soft magnetic". This would open an avenue towards a topologically robust rewritable magnetic memory.

Unauthorized resource access represents a typical security threat in the Internet of things (IoT), while distributed ledger technologies (e.g., blockchain and IOTA) hold great promise to address this threat. Although blockchain-based IoT access control schemes have been the most popular ones, they suffer from several significant limitations, such as high monetary cost and low throughput of processing access requests. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a novel IoT access control scheme by combining the fee-less IOTA technology and the Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) technology. To control the access to a resource, a token, which records access permissions to this resource, is encrypted by the CP-ABE technology and uploaded to the IOTA Tangle (i.e., the underlying database of IOTA). Any user can fetch the encrypted token from the Tangle, while only those who can decrypt this token are authorized to access the resource. In this way, the proposed scheme enables not only distributed, fee-less and scalable access control thanks to the IOTA but also fine-grained attribute-based access control thanks to the CP-ABE. We show the feasibility of our scheme by implementing a proof-of-concept prototype system and evaluate its performance in terms of access request processing throughput.

Introducing magnetic order into a topological insulator (TI) system has been attracting much attention with an expectation of realizing exotic phenomena such as quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) or axion insulator states. The magnetic proximity effect (MPE) is one of the promising schemes to induce the magnetic order on the surface of TI without introducing disorder accompanied by do** magnetic impurities in TI. In this study, we investigate the MPE at the interface of a heterostructure consisting of a topological crystalline insulator (TCI) SnTe and Fe by employing polarized neutron reflectometry. The ferromagnetic order penetrates $\sim$ 3 nm deep into the SnTe layer from the interface with Fe, which persists up to room temperature. Our findings demonstrate that the interfacial magnetism is induced by the MPE on the surface of TCI preserving the coherent topological states, which is essential for the bulk-edge correspondence, without introducing disorder arising from a random distribution magnetic impurities. This opens up a way for realizing next generation electronics, spintronics, and quantum computational devices by making use of the characteristics of TCI.

Significant decrease in the density of states at the Fermi energy below $T_a$ is evident from the measurement of nuclear spin lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$, suggesting that the instabilities of Fermi surface are associated with the transitions. Moreover we observed the unusual evolution of low-energy fluctuations toward the valence transition at $T_a$ behind its drastic first-order nature. The structural transition accompanying the valence order may occur as a result of cooperative effect of Fermi surface and valence instabilities.

Inducing magnetism into topological insulators is intriguing for utilizing exotic phenomena such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) for technological applications. While most studies have focused on do** magnetic impurities to open a gap at the surface-state Dirac point, many undesirable effects have been reported to appear in some cases that makes it difficult to determine whether the gap opening is due to the time-reversal symmetry breaking or not. Furthermore, the realization of the QAHE has been limited to low temperatures. Here we have succeeded in generating a massive Dirac cone in a MnBi2Se4 /Bi2Se3 heterostructure which was fabricated by self-assembling a MnBi2Se4 layer on top of the Bi2Se3 surface as a result of the co-deposition of Mn and Se. Our experimental results, supported by relativistic ab initio calculations, demonstrate that the fabricated MnBi2Se4 /Bi2Se3 heterostructure shows ferromagnetism up to room temperature and a clear Dirac-cone gap opening of ~100 meV without any other significant changes in the rest of the band structure. It can be considered as a result of the direct interaction of the surface Dirac cone and the magnetic layer rather than a magnetic proximity effect. This spontaneously formed self-assembled heterostructure with a massive Dirac spectrum, characterized by a nontrivial Chern number C = -1, has a potential to realize the QAHE at significantly higher temperatures than reported up to now and can serve as a platform for develo** future " topotronics" devices.

Furthermore, the mobility of such processed bilayer graphene increases around four times larger, ~ 8,000 cm2/V$\cdot$s, than that of the pristine bilayer graphene. This is mainly due to increment of the scattering time and decrement of the cyclotron mass, which can be interpreted as a result of the change of the stacking structure of bilayer graphene from A-B to A-A, corresponding to a change from the parabolic to the linear band dispersion.

We investigate the chaotic inflationary model using the two-loop effective potential of a self-interacting scalar field theory in curved spacetime. We use the potential which contains a non-minimal scalar curvature coupling and a quartic scalar self-interaction. We analyze the Lyapunov stability of de Sitter solution and show the stability bound. Calculating the inflationary parameters, we systematically explore the spectral index $n_s$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$, with varying the four parameters, the scalar-curvature coupling $ξ_0$, the scalar quartic coupling $λ_0$, the renormalization scale $μ$ and the e-folding number $N$. It is found that the two-loop correction on $n_s$ is much larger than the leading-log correction, which has previously been studied. We show that the model is consistent with the observation by Planck with WMAP and a recent joint analysis of BICEP2.

Inflation models can be examined by the cosmological observations, WMAP, Planck, BICEP2 and so on. These observations directly constrain the spectral index, $n_s$, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r$. Besides, from a theoretical point of view, it has been shown that any inflation models asymptote a universal attractor in $(n_s,r)$ plane for a larger scalar-gravity coupling. In this work we consider a simple chaotic inflation model with a scalar quartic and a scalar-curvature interactions. The quantum corrections are introduced for these interactions through the renormalization group. The inflationary parameters, $n_s$ and $r$, are numerically calculated with shifting the bare scalar-gravity coupling $ξ_0$, the quartic scalar bare coupling $λ_0$, the renormalization scale $μ$ and the e-folding number $N$. The Planck data is consistent with the $φ^4$ theory with a finite scalar-curvature coupling. It is found that the RG running induces a non-universal contribution for $n_s$ and $r$. It can increase the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r$, which is consistent with Planck data so that it may approach the BICEP2 data for a small renormalization scale.
