Multi-robot cooperative transport is crucial in logistics, housekee**, and disaster response. However, it poses significant challenges in environments where objects of various weights are mixed and the number of robots and objects varies. This paper presents Task-priority Intermediated Hierarchical Distributed Policies (TIHDP), a multi-agent Reinforcement Learning (RL) framework that addresses these challenges through a hierarchical policy structure. TIHDP consists of three layers: task allocation policy (higher layer), dynamic task priority (intermediate layer), and robot control policy (lower layer). Whereas the dynamic task priority layer can manipulate the priority of any object to be transported by receiving global object information and communicating with other robots, the task allocation and robot control policies are restricted by local observations/actions so that they are not affected by changes in the number of objects and robots. Through simulations and real-robot demonstrations, TIHDP shows promising adaptability and performance of the learned multi-robot cooperative transport, even in environments with varying numbers of robots and objects. Layer number-dependent band structures and symmetry are vital for the electrical and optical characteristics of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). Harvesting 2D TMDCs with tunable thickness and properties can be achieved through top-down etching and bottom-up growth strategies. In this study, we report a pioneering technique that utilizes the migration of in-situ generated Na-W-S-O droplets to etch out one-dimensional (1D) nanotrenches in few-layer WS$_2$. 1D WS$_2$ nanotrenches were successfully fabricated on the optically inert bilayer WS$_2$, showing pronounced photoluminescence and second harmonic generation signals. Additionally, we demonstrate the modulation of inkjet-printed Na$_2$WO$_4$-Na$_2$SO$_4$ particles to switch between the etching and growth modes by manipulating the sulfur supply. This versatile approach enables the creation of 1D nanochannels on 2D TMDCs. Our research presents exciting prospects for the top-down and bottom-up fabrication of 1D-2D mixed-dimensional TMDC nanostructures, expanding their use for photonic and optoelectronic applications.

The Even-Mansour (EM) cipher is one of the famous constructions for a block cipher. Kuwakado and Morii demonstrated that a quantum adversary can recover its $n$-bit secret keys only with $O(n)$ nonadaptive quantum queries. While the security of the EM cipher and its variants is well-understood for classical adversaries, very little is currently known of their quantum security. Towards a better understanding of the quantum security, or the limits of quantum adversaries for the EM cipher, we study the quantum query complexity for the key recovery of the EM cipher and prove every quantum algorithm requires $Ω(n)$ quantum queries for the key recovery even if it is allowed to make adaptive queries. Therefore, the quantum attack of Kuwakado and Morii has the optimal query complexity up to a constant factor, and we cannot asymptotically improve it even with adaptive quantum queries.

We report the effect of pressure on the electrical transport properties of the four-layer-type bismuth chalcogenide semiconductors LaOPbBiS$_{3}$ and La$_{2}$O$_{2}$Bi$_{3}$AgS$_{6}$ and present the discovery of a pressure-induced superconductivity. In both compounds, the semiconductorlike behavior concomitant with an anomaly in the more insulating state is gradually suppressed with increasing pressure while the superconductivity develops. The obtained phase diagrams, in sharp contrast with the interplay between the conventional charge density waves and superconductivity, suggest that the enhancement of the superconductivity is due to the disorder near the localization threshold. These results indicate that pressure tuning of the local disorder in four-layer-type bismuth chalcogenides provides an attractive opportunity to study the interplay between disorder and superconductivity.

We study the extent to which very bright (-23.0 < MUV < -21.75) Lyman-break selected galaxies at redshifts z~7 display detectable Lya emission. To explore this issue, we have obtained follow-up optical spectroscopy of 9 z~7 galaxies from a parent sample of 24 z~7 galaxy candidates selected from the 1.65 sq.deg COSMOS-UltraVISTA and SXDS-UDS survey fields using the latest near-infrared public survey data, and new ultra-deep Subaru z'-band imaging (which we also present and describe in this paper). Our spectroscopy has yielded only one possible detection of Lya at z=7.168 with a rest-frame equivalent width EW_0 = 3.7 (+1.7/-1.1) Angstrom. The relative weakness of this line, combined with our failure to detect Lya emission from the other spectroscopic targets allows us to place a new upper limit on the prevalence of strong Lya emission at these redshifts. For conservative calculation and to facilitate comparison with previous studies at lower redshifts, we derive a 1-sigma upper limit on the fraction of UV bright galaxies at z~7 that display EW_0 > 50 Angstrom, which we estimate to be < 0.23. This result may indicate a weak trend where the fraction of strong Lya emitters ceases to rise, and possibly falls between z~6 and z~7. Our results also leave open the possibility that strong Lya may still be more prevalent in the brightest galaxies in the reionization era than their fainter counterparts. A larger spectroscopic sample of galaxies is required to derive a more reliable constraint on the neutral hydrogen fraction at z~7 based on the Lya fraction in the bright galaxies.

Including the [OII] emission line, we use the six strong nebular emission lines in the individual and composite rest-frame optical spectra to investigate physical conditions of the interstellar medium in star-forming galaxies at $z\sim$1.5. We find a tight correlation between H$α$ and [OII], which suggests that [OII] can be a good star formation rate (SFR) indicator for galaxies at $z\sim1.5$. The line ratios of H$α$/[OII] are consistent with those of local galaxies. We also find that [OII] emitters have strong [OIII] emission lines. The [OIII]/[OII] ratios are larger than normal star-forming galaxies in the local Universe, suggesting a higher ionization parameter. Less massive galaxies have larger [OIII]/[OII] ratios. With evidence that the electron density is consistent with local galaxies, the high ionization of galaxies at high redshifts may be attributed to a harder radiation field by a young stellar population and/or an increase in the number of ionizing photons from each massive star.

We present the ultra-deep Subaru narrowband imaging survey for Lya emitters (LAEs) at $z=7.3$ in SXDS and COSMOS fields with a total integration time of 106 hours. Exploiting our new sharp bandwidth filter, NB101, installed on Suprime-Cam, we have reached $L(Lya)=2.4\times10^{42} \ erg \ s^{-1}$ ($5σ$) for $z=7.3$ LAEs, about 4 times deeper than previous Subaru $z \gtrsim 7$ studies, which allows us to reliably investigate evolution of Lya luminosity function (LF), for the first time, down to the luminosity limit same as those of Subaru $z=3.1-6.6$ LAE samples. Surprisingly, we only find three and four LAEs in SXDS and COSMOS fields, respectively, while one expects a total of $\sim 65$ LAEs by our survey in the case of no Lya LF evolution from $z=6.6$ to $7.3$.We identify a decrease of Lya LF from $z=6.6$ to $7.3$ at the $>90\%$ confidence level from our $z=7.3$ Lya LF.Moreover, the evolution of Lya LF is clearly accelerated at $z>6.6$ beyond the measurement uncertainties including cosmic variance. Because no such accelerated evolution of UV-continuum LF or cosmic star-formation rate (SFR) is found at $z\sim 7$, but suggested only at $z>8$ (Oesch et al. 2013, Bouwens et al. 2014), this accelerated Lya LF evolution is explained by physical mechanisms different from a pure SFR decrease but related to Lya production and escape in the process of cosmic reionization. Because a simple accelerating increase of IGM neutral hydrogen absorbing Lya would not reconcile with Thomson scattering optical depth measurements from WMAP and Planck, our findings may support new physical pictures suggested by recent theoretical studies, such as the existence of HI clumpy clouds within cosmic ionized bubbles selectively absorbing Lya and the large ionizing photon escape fraction of galaxies making weak Lya emission.

Neutron scattering studies and measurements of the dielectric susceptibility and ferroelectric polarization P have been carried out in various magnetic fields H for single-crystal samples of the multiferroic system LiVCuO4 with quasi one-dimensional spin 1/2 Cu2+ chains formed of edge-sharing CuO4 square planes, and the relationship between the magnetic structure and ferroelectricity has been studied. The ferroelectric polarization is significantly suppressed by the magnetic field H above 2 T applied along a and b axes. The helical magnetic structure with the helical axis parallel to c has been confirmed in H=0, and for H//a, the spin flop transition takes place at H=2 T with increasing H, where the helical axis changes to the direction parallel to H. The ferroelectric polarization along a at H=0 is found to be proportional to the neutron magnetic scattering intensity, indicating that the magnetic order is closely related to the appearance of the ferroelectricity. The relationship between the magnetic structure and ferroelectricity of LiVCuO4 is discussed by considering the existing theories.

Although huddling was shown to be the key by which emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) save energy and sustain their breeding fast during the Antarctic winter, the intricacies of this social behavior have been poorly studied. We recorded abiotic variables with data loggers glued to the feathers of eight individually marked emperor penguins to investigate their thermoregulatory behavior and to estimate their "huddling time budget" throughout the breeding season (pairing and incubation period). Contrary to the classic view, huddling episodes were discontinuous and of short and variable duration, lasting 1.6+/-1.7 (S.D.) h on average. Despite heterogeneous huddling groups, birds had equal access to the warmth of the huddles. Throughout the breeding season, males huddled for 38+/-18% (S.D.) of their time, which raised the ambient temperature that birds were exposed to above 0 degrees C (at average external temperatures of -17 degrees C). As a consequence of tight huddles, ambient temperatures were above 20 degrees C during 13+/-12% (S.D.) of their huddling time. Ambient temperatures increased up to 37.5 degrees C, close to birds' body temperature. This complex social behavior therefore enables all breeders to get a regular and equal access to an environment which allows them to save energy and successfully incubate their eggs during the Antarctic winter.

We present the first combined analysis of diving behaviour and dispersal patterns in gravid leatherback turtles during 3 consecutive nesting seasons in French Guiana. In total 23 turtles were fitted with Argos satellite transmitters and 16 individuals (including 6 concurrently satellite-tracked) were equipped with an electronic time-depth recorder for single inter-nesting intervals, i.e. between two consecutive ovi-positions. The leatherbacks dispersed over the continental shelf, ranging from the coastal zone to the shelf break and moved over 546.2 $\pm$ 154.1 km (mean $\pm$ SD) in waters of French Guiana and neighbouring Surinam. They mostly performed shallow (9.4 $\pm$ 9.2 m) and short (4.4 $\pm$ 3.4 min) dives with a slight diurnal pattern. They dived deeper as they moved away from the coast suggesting that they were predominantly following the seabed. Inter-nesting intervals could be divided into two phases: during the first 75% of the time turtles spent at sea, they dived on average 47 min h-1 before showing a lower and more variable diving effort as they came back to the shore. The extended movements of leatherbacks and the fine analysis of dive shapes suggest that in French Guiana leatherbacks may feed during the inter-nesting interval, probably to compensate for the energy costs associated with reproduction. This results in this endangered species being exposed to high risks of interactions with local fisheries throughout the continental shelf.

A ferroelectric transition occurring simultaneously with helical spin order has been found in both the polycrystalline and single crystal samples of LiCuVO4. The system has Cu2+ spins (s=1/2) of the CuO2 chains formed of edge-sharing CuO4 squares. Possibly due to the frustrated nature caused by the competition between the nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor exchange interactions, Cu spins exhibit, as has been already reported, the helical magnetic order with the incommensurate modulation vector Q along the chain direction and with the helical axis e3 perpendicular to the CuO4 squares. The electric polarization P can be understood by the recently predicted relation (P is proportional to Q*e3). The transition temperature has been found to be gradually suppressed by the applied magnetic field.
