Ultra-hot Jupiters (UHJs) orbiting pulsating A/F stars represent an important subset of the exoplanetary demographic, as they are excellent candidates for the study of exoplanetary atmospheres, as well as being astrophysical laboratories for the investigation of planet-to-star interactions. We analyse the \texttt{TESS} (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) light curve of the WASP-167 system, consisting of an F1V star and a substellar companion on a $\sim 2.02$ day orbit. We model the combination of the ellipsoidal variability and the Doppler beaming to measure the mass of WASP-167b, and the reflection effect to obtain constraints on the geometric albedo, while placing a special emphasis on noise separation. We implement a basic model to determine the dayside ($T_{\rm Day}$), nightside ($T_{\rm Night}$) and intrinsic ($T_{\rm Internal}$) temperatures of WASP-167b and put a constraint on its Bond albedo. We confirm the transit parameters of the planet seen in the literature. We find that a resonant $\sim 2P^{-1}$ stellar signal (which may originate from planet-to-star interactions) interferes with the phase curve analysis. After considerate treatment of this signal, we find $M_p = 0.34 \pm 0.22$~$M_J$. We measure a dayside temperature of $2790 \pm 100$ K, classifying WASP-167b as an UHJ. We find a $2σ$ upper limit of $0.51$ on its Bond albedo, and determine the geometric albedo at $0.34 \pm 0.11$ ($1 σ$ uncertainty). With an occultation depth of $106.8 \pm 27.3$ ppm in the \texttt{TESS} passband, the UHJ WASP-167b will be an excellent target for atmospheric studies, especially those at thermal wavelength ranges, where the stellar pulsations are expected to be be less influential.

Abstract:
We study the query complexity on slices of Boolean functions. Among other results we show that there exists a Boolean function for which we need to query all but 7 input bits to compute its value, even if we know beforehand that the number of 0's and 1's in the input are the same, i.e., when our input is from the middle slice. Our results are related to certain natural discrepancy type questions that, somewhat surprisingly, have not been studied before.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are highly toxic, carcinogenic substances. On soils contaminated with PAHs, crop cultivation, animal husbandry and even the survival of microflora in the soil are greatly perturbed, depending on the degree of contamination. Most microorganisms cannot tolerate PAH-contaminated soils, however, some microbial strains can adapt to these harsh conditions and survive on contaminated soils. Analysis of the metagenomes of contaminated environmental samples may lead to discovery of PAH-degrading enzymes suitable for green biotechnology methodologies ranging from biocatalysis to pollution control. In the present study, our goal was to apply a metagenomic data search to identify efficient novel enzymes in remediation of PAH-contaminated soils. The metagenomic hits were further analyzed using a set of bioinformatics tools to select protein sequences predicted to encode well-folded soluble enzymes. Three novel enzymes (two dioxygenases and one peroxidase) were cloned and used in soil remediation microcosms experiments. The novel enzymes were found to be efficient for degradation of naphthalene and phenanthrene. Adding the inorganic oxidant CaO2 further increased the degrading potential of the novel enzymes for anthracene and pyrene. We conclude that metagenome mining paired with bioinformatic predictions, structural modelling and functional assays constitutes a powerful approach towards novel enzymes for soil remediation.

We study cooperative versions of this problem, where there are multiple questioners, but not all of them learn the answer to the queries. We consider various models that differ in how it is decided who gets to ask the next query, who obtains the answer to the query, and who needs to know the defective element by the end of the process.

Dissolution testing is part of the target product quality that is essential in approving new products in the pharmaceutical industry. The prediction of the dissolution profile based on spectroscopic data is an alternative to the current destructive and time-consuming method. Raman and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopies are two fast and complementary methods that provide information on the tablets' physical and chemical properties and can help predict their dissolution profiles. This work aims to compare the information collected by these spectroscopy methods to support the decision of which measurements should be used so that the accuracy requirement of the industry is met. Artificial neural network models were created, in which the spectroscopy data and the measured compression curves were used as an input individually and in different combinations in order to estimate the dissolution profiles. Results showed that using only the NIR transmission method along with the compression force data or the Raman and NIR reflection methods, the dissolution profile was estimated within the acceptance limits of the f2 similarity factor. Adding further spectroscopy measurements increased the prediction accuracy.

WASP-33 is one of the few $δ$ Sct stars with a known planetary companion. By analyzing the stellar oscillations, we search for possible star-planet interactions in the pattern of the pulsation. We made use of the Transit and Light Curve Modeller (TLCM) to solve the light curve from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We include gravity darkening into our analysis. The stellar oscillation pattern of WASP-33 clearly shows signs of several tidally perturbed modes. We find that there are peaks in the frequency spectrum that are at or near the $3$rd, $12$th and $25$th orbital harmonics ($f_{orb} \sim 0.82$ d$^{-1}$). Also, there is a prominent overabundance of pulsational frequencies rightwards of the orbital harmonics, being characteristic of a tidally perturbed stellar pulsation, which is an outcome of star-planet interactions in the misaligned system. There are peaks in both the $δ$ Sct and $γ$ Dor ranges of the Fourier spectrum, implying that WASP-33 is a $γ$ Dor -- $δ$ Sct hybrid pulsator. The transit light curves are best fitted by a gravity darkened stellar model, and the planet parameters are consistent with earlier determinations.

In extremal set theory our usual goal is to find the maximal size of a family of subsets of an $n$-element set satisfying a condition. A condition is called chain-dependent, if it is satisfied for a family if and only if it is satisfied for its intersections with the $n!$ full chains. We introduce a method to handle problems with such conditions, then show how it can be used to prove three classic theorems. Then, a theorem about families containing no two sets such that $A\subset B$ and $λ\cdot |A| \le |B|$ is proved. Finally, we investigate problems where instead of the size of the family, the number of $\ell$-chains is maximized. Our method is to define a weight function on the sets (or $\ell$-chains) and use it in a double counting argument involving full chains.

Abstract:
In this paper we give a complete description about normal monohedral tilings of a convex disc with smooth boundary where we have at most three topological discs as tiles. This result is a far-reaching generalization of the results of Kurusa, Lángi and Vígh \cite{KLV2020}. Some further partial results are proved for non-normal tilings.

Black phosphorus has emerged as the next member in the graphene inspired two-dimensional materials family. Its electronic and magnetic properties are studied herein using electron and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques (ESR and NMR) and microwave conductivity measurement. The latter is a unique technique to study conductivity on air sensitive samples. The ESR study indicates the absence of free charge carriers and no sign of paramagnetic defects are found. $^{31}$P NMR shows the presence of a characteristic Pake doublet structure due to the interaction between $I = 1/2$ nuclei. Microwave conductivity shows, in accordance with the ESR results, that black phosphorus behaves as a semiconductor and we identify extrinsic and intrinsic charge carrier contributions to the conductivity and extracted the sizes of the gaps. ESR measurement also yields that bP might find applications as a microwave absorbent.

Abstract:
The restricted maximal operators of partial sums with respect to bounded Vilenkin systems are investigated. We derive the maximal subspace of positive numbers, for which this operator is bounded from the Hardy space $%H_{p}$ to the Lebesgue space $L_{p}$ for all $0<p\leq 1.$ We also prove that the result is sharp in a particular sense.

The quasi-optical bridge detects the change of mm wave polarization at the ESR. A controllable reference arm maintains a mm wave bias at the detector. The attained sensitivity of 2x10^10 spin/G/(Hz)1/2, measured on a dilute Mn:MgO sample in a non-resonant probe head at 222.4 GHz and 300 K, is comparable to commercial high sensitive X band spectrometers. The spectrometer has a Fabry-Perot resonator based probe head to measure aqueous solutions, and a probe head to measure magnetic field angular dependence of single crystals. The spectrometer is robust and easy to use and may be operated by undergraduate students. Its performance is demonstrated by examples from various fields of condensed matter physics.
