We have investigated the vortex dynamics in a thin film of an iron-based superconductor FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ by observing second-harmonic generation (SHG) in the THz frequency range. We visualized the picosecond trajectory of two-dimensional vortex motion in a pinning potential tilted by Meissner shielding current. The SHG perpendicular to the driving field is observed, corresponding to the nonreciprocal nonlinear Hall effect under the current-induced inversion symmetry breaking, whereas the linear Hall effect is negligible. The estimated vortex mass, as light as a bare electron, suggests that the vortex core moves independently from quasiparticles at such a high frequency and large velocity $\approx$300 km/s.

The thinnest film (4 nm) exhibit negative Hall effect, indicating electron transfer into FeSe from the SrTiO$_{3}$ substrate. This is in agreement with reports on ultrathin FeSe/SrTiO$_{3}$ grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The upper critical field is found to exhibit large anisotropy ($γ>$ 11.9), estimated from the data near the transition temperature ($T_{\mathrm{c}}$). In particular, the estimated coherence lengths in the perpendicular direction are 0.15-0.27 nm, which are smaller than the c-axis length of FeSe, and are found to be almost independent of the total thicknesses of the films. These results indicate that superconductivity is confined at the interface of FeSe/SrTiO$_{3}$.

We have measured the flux-flow Hall effect in a multi-band superconductor FeSe pure single crystal to investigate the nature of the vortex core state by means of the cross-shaped bimodal cavity technique. We found that the flux-flow Hall angle of FeSe at low temperatures is about 0.5, which is equal to or smaller than that evaluated by the effective viscous drag coefficient measurements. This feature is in contrast to the cuprate superconductors. The conductivity tensor of multi-band superconductors that are contributed from holes and electrons shows partial cancellation of the flux-flow Hall voltage by the electrons and holes, wchich can explain the observed feature. Therefore, our study suggests the appearance of the multi-band nature in the vortex dynamics.

The addition of artificial pinning centers has led to an impressive increase in critical current density ($J_{\rm c}$) in a superconductor, enabling record-breaking all-superconducting magnets and other applications. $J_{\rm c}$ has reached $\sim 0.2$-$0.3$ $J_{\rm d}$, where $J_{\rm d}$ is the depairing current density, and the numerical factor depends on the pinning optimization. By modifying $λ$ and/or $ξ$, the penetration depth and coherence length, respectively, we can increase $J_{\rm d}$. For (Y$_{0.77}$Gd$_{0.23}$)Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$_y$ ((Y,Gd)123) we achieve this by controlling the carrier density, which is related to $λ$ and $ξ$. We also tune $λ$ and $ξ$ by controlling the chemical pressure in the Fe-based superconductors, BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$ films. The variation of $λ$ and $ξ$ leads to an intrinsic improvement of $J_{\rm c}$, via $J_{\rm d}$, obtaining extremely high values of $J_{\rm c}$ of $130$ MA/cm$^2$ and $8.0$ MA/cm$^2$ at $4.2$ K, consistent with an enhancement of $J_{\rm d}$ of a factor of $2$ for both incoherent nanoparticle-doped (Y,Gd)123 coated conductors (CCs) and BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$ films, showing that this new material design is useful to achieving high critical current densities for a wide array of superconductors. The remarkably high vortex-pinning force in combination with this thermodynamic and pinning optimization route for the (Y,Gd)123 CCs reached $\sim 3.17$ TN/m$^3$ at $4.2$ K and 18 T (${\bf H}\parallel c$), the highest values ever reported in any superconductor.

Lattice and electronic states of thin FeSe films on LaAlO$_3$ substrates are investigated in the vicinity of the nematic phase transition. No evidence of structural phase transition is found by x-ray diffraction below $T^\ast \sim 90$ K, while results obtained from resistivity measurement and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy clearly show the appearance of a nematic state. These results indicate formation of a pure nematic state in the iron-based superconductor and provide conclusive evidence that the nematic state originates from the electronic degrees of freedom. This pure nematicity in the thin film implies difference in the electron-lattice interaction from bulk FeSe crystals. FeSe films provide valuable playgrounds for observing the pure response of "bare" electron systems free from the electron-lattice interaction, and should make important contribution to investigate nematicity and its relationship with superconductivity.

In this study, we fabricate 5-30-nm-thick films of FeSe/STO using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The grown films exhibit superconductivity with an onset $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ that is much higher than that of bulk FeSe under ambient pressure. The observed $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ values are exceptionally high in terms of the strain vs. $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ relationship of the same material established so far. Furthermore, $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ increases as the film thickness decreases, except for films thinner than 10 nm. This thickness dependence of $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ is in good agreement with the results reported for films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) that exhibit interface superconductivity. These results indicate the realization of interface superconductivity in PLD-grown FeSe/STO. Furthermore, our PLD technique requires no post-annealing to realize interface superconductivity, which is different from MBE techniques. Because the PLD technique has the advantage that various interfaces can be fabricated easily by simply altering the target materials, our results open novel routes to study interface superconductivity toward higher $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ by systematic control of the interface.

We investigated the nature of the quasi-particle state in the vortex core by means of the flux-flow Hall effect measurements at 15.8 GHz. We measured the flux-flow Hall effect in cuprate superconductors, Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{y}$ and YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{y}$ single crystals, whose equilibrium $B$-$T$ phase diagrams were different. As a result, we found that the Hall angle is independent of the magnetic field, and reaches an order of unity at low temperatures in BSCCO. However, in YBCO, the angle increases with increasing magnetic field even at low temperatures. We understood that this difference in the magnetic field dependence of the Hall angle is due to the difference in the influence of the pinning, which originated from the difference in the vortex state (liquid vs. solid) between the two materials. However, as a common feature, both materials showed a large tangent of the Hall angle at low temperatures, which was larger by an order of magnitude than those obtained in the effective viscous drag coefficient measurements. We discussed the origin of the discrepancy both in terms of the possible nonlinearity of the viscous drag force and possible hidden dissipation mechanisms. The unexpectedly large Hall angle of the vortex motion in cuprates revealed in our flux-flow Hall effect study poses a serious question on the fundamental understanding of the motion of the quantized vortex in superconductors, and it deserves further investigation.

Electronic states in the gap of a superconductor inherit intriguing many-body properties from the superconductor. Here, we create these in-gap states by manipulating Cr atomic chains on the $β$-Bi$_2$Pd superconductor. We find that the topological properties of the in-gap states can greatly vary depending on the crafted spin chain. These systems make an ideal platform for non-trivial topological phases because of the large atom-superconductor interactions and the existence of a large Rashba coupling at the Bi-terminated surface. We study two spin chains, one with atoms two-lattice-parameter apart and one with square-root-of-two lattice parameters. Of these, only the second one is in a topologically non-trivial phase, in correspondence with the spin interactions for this geometry.

We measured the complex conductivity, $σ$, of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$ ($x=0-0.5$) films in the superconducting state which show a drastic increase of the superconducting transition temperature, $T_\textrm{c}$, when the nematic order disappears. Since the magnetic penetration depth, $λ$ $(>$ 400 nm), of Fe(Se,Te) is longer than the typical thickness of the film ($\sim$100 nm), we combined the coplanar waveguide resonator and cavity perturbation techniques to evaluate both the real and imaginary parts of $σ$. Films with a nematic order showed a qualitatively different temperature dependence in penetration depth and quasiparticle scattering time when compared with those without nematic order, suggesting that nematic order influences the superconducting gap structure. Conversely, the proportionality between superfluid density, $n_\textrm{s}$ ($\proptoλ^{-2}$), and $T_\textrm{c}$ was observed irrespective of the presence or absence of nematic order. This result indicates that the amount of superfluid has a stronger impact on the $T_\textrm{c}$ of Fe(Se,Te) than the presence or absence of nematic order. Combining these results with band dispersions calculated using density functional theory, we propose that the change of the Fermi surface associated with nematicity is the primary factor influencing the change of $T_\textrm{c}$ and the superconducting gap structure in Fe(Se,Te).

We systematically studied in-plane optical conductivity of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ thin films fabricated on CaF$_{2}$ substrates for $x$ = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4. This system shows a large enhancement of superconducting transition temperature $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ at $x \sim$ 0.2 and a gentle decrease in $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ with further increasing $x$. The low-energy optical conductivity spectrum is described by the sum of narrow and broad Drude components, associated with coherent and incoherent charge dynamics, respectively. With increasing Te content, the spectral weight of the narrow Drude component decreases, while the total weight of the two Drude components increases. As a consequence, the fraction of the narrow Drude weight significantly decreases, indicating that Te substitution leads to stronger electronic correlations. Below the nematic transition temperature, the narrow Drude weight decreases with decreasing temperature. This indicates the reduction of the coherent carrier density, resulting from the Fermi-surface modification induced by the development of the orbital order. The reduction of the narrow Drude weight with temperature stopped at $x \sim$ 0.2, corresponding to the disappearance of the nematic transition. Our result suggests that the increase in the coherent carrier density induced by the suppression of the nematic transition gives rise to the enhancement of $T_{\mathrm{c}}$. The decrease in $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ with further Te substitution likely arises from too strong electronic correlations, which are not favorable for superconductivity.

Electron do** by applying gate voltage of 5 V increases $T_{\mathrm c}$ of the FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$ and FeSe$_{1-y}$S$_y$ films with $0 \leq x \leq 0.4$ and $0 \leq y \leq 0.25$, while the e-doped $x=0.5$ film showed lower $T_{\mathrm c}$ than that of the undoped one. Both positive and chemical pressure suppress $T_{\mathrm c}$ of the e-doped FeSe. The obtained superconducting phase diagram in the e-doped samples is rather different from that in undoped samples. This might suggest that the superconductivity mechanism is different between undoped and e-doped systems. Alternatively, this is possibly explained by the absence of the nematic order in e-doped samples.

Muon spin rotation/relaxation measurements were performed to investigate magnetic properties of FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ thin films on LaAlO$_3$. A drastic decrease of the initial asymmetry was observed together with the peak structure in the temperature dependence of the relaxation rate of muon spins almost at the same temperature where kink anomalies were observed in the temperature dependent resistivity. With increasing S content, the anomaly temperature increased and the magnetic fluctuations at the lowest temperature were suppressed. These results show that the S substitution induces magnetism at low temperatures in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ thin films. Although the behaviors of the magnetic and nematic phases in FeSe films towards chemical pressure by S substitution are similar to those for bulk FeSe towards hydrostatic pressure, the behavior of $T_{\mathrm c}$ is significantly different between these systems. Our results demonstrate that the detailed comparative investigation among physical and chemical pressure effects is essentially important to understand the interplay of the magnetism, the nematicity and the superconductivity in iron chalcogenides.

We developed a new microwave Hall effect measurement method for materials in the skin depth region at low temperatures using a cross-shaped bimodal cavity. We analytically calculated electromagnetic fields in the cross-shaped cavity, and the response of the cavity including the sample, whose property is represented by the surface impedance tensor; further, we constructed the method to obtain the Hall component of the surface impedance tensor in terms of the change in resonance characteristics. To confirm the validity of the new method, we applied our method to measure the Hall effect in metallic Bi single crystals at low temperatures, and we confirmed that the microwave Hall angles coincide with the DC Hall angle. Thus, it becomes clear that the Hall angle measurement under cryogenic conditions becomes possible without any complicated tuning mechanisms, and our bimodal cavity method can be used to measure the microwave Hall effect on materials in the skin depth region. The result opens a new approach to discuss the Hall effect in condensed matter physics such as the microwave flux-flow Hall effect in superconductors.

We comparatively investigated the transport properties for S- and Te-substituted FeSe thin films under magnetic fields to clarify the origin of the contrasting behavior of the superconducting transition temperature in S and Te substitution. A classical two carrier analysis revealed that the carrier densities of the films increased with increasing Te content, while no significant change was observed for the S-substitution. This composition dependence of the carrier density well corresponds to the $T_{\mathrm c}$ behavior. The clear correlation between $T_{\mathrm c}$ and the carrier densities suggests that the structural transition affects the electronic structure in a different manner between Fe(Se,S) and Fe(Se,Te) and that this fact is the direct cause of the difference in the $T_{\mathrm c}$ behaviors at the end point of the structural transition.

The measured diagonal (longitudinal) and off-diagonal (Hall) conductivity spectra are well reproduced by two-carrier Drude model, from which the carrier densities, scattering times and effective masses of electron and hole carriers are determined in a wide range of temperature. The hole density decreases below the structural transition temperature while electron density increases, which is attributed to the band structure modification in the electronic nematic phase. The scattering time of the hole carrier becomes substantially longer than that of the electron at lower temperature, which accounts for the increase of the positive dc Hall coefficient at low temperature.

Exploration of new superconductors still relies on the experience and intuition of experts and is largely a process of experimental trial and error. In one study, only 3% of the candidate materials showed superconductivity. Here, we report the first deep learning model for finding new superconductors. We introduced the method named "reading periodic table" which represented the periodic table in a way that allows deep learning to learn to read the periodic table and to learn the law of elements for the purpose of discovering novel superconductors that are outside the training data. It is recognized that it is difficult for deep learning to predict something outside the training data. Although we used only the chemical composition of materials as information, we obtained an $R^{2}$ value of 0.92 for predicting $T_\text{c}$ for materials in a database of superconductors. We also introduced the method named "garbage-in" to create synthetic data of non-superconductors that do not exist. Non-superconductors are not reported, but the data must be required for deep learning to distinguish between superconductors and non-superconductors. We obtained three remarkable results. The deep learning can predict superconductivity for a material with a precision of 62%, which shows the usefulness of the model; it found the recently discovered superconductor CaBi2 and another one Hf0.5Nb0.2V2Zr0.3, neither of which is in the superconductor database; and it found Fe-based high-temperature superconductors (discovered in 2008) from the training data before 2008. These results open the way for the discovery of new high-temperature superconductor families. The candidate materials list, data, and method are openly available from the link https://github.com/tomo835g/Deep-Learning-to-find-Superconductors.

We investigated the superconducting fluctuation in FeSe, which is assumed to be located in the BCS--BEC crossover region, via magnetic torque measurements. In our method, the absolute cantilever displacement is measured by detecting the interference intensity of the Fabry--Perot cavity formed between the cantilever and optical fiber. Our findings are totally different from the results of the previous torque magnetometry using a piezoresistive cantilever; the "giant" fluctuation diamagnetism related to the BCS--BEC crossover does not exist. Instead, a considerably smaller fluctuation signal originating from the vortex liquid was observed that showed a qualitatively similar behavior to those in cuprate superconductors. We also discuss the inconsistency between our torque data and the existence of a pseudogap proposed by an NMR experiment.

We performed systematic studies on the transport properties of FeSe thin films with controlled degrees of in-plane lattice strain, including both tensile and compressive strains. The superconducting transition temperature, $T_{\mathrm c}$, increases up to 12 K for films with compressive strain while the superconductivity disappears for films with large tensile strains. On the other hand, the structural (nematic) transition temperature, $T_{\mathrm s}$, slightly decreases as the in-plane strain is more compressive. This suggests that the structural transition can be extinguished by a smaller amount of Te substitution for films with more compressive strain, which may lead to higher $T_{\mathrm c}$ in FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_x$. It was also found that the carrier densities evaluated via transport properties increase as the in-plane strain becomes more compressive. A clear correlation between $T_{\mathrm c}$ and the carrier densities suggests that it is essential to increase carrier densities for the $T_{\mathrm c}$ enhancement of iron chalcogenides.

We fabricated superconducting coplanar waveguide resonator with leads for dc bias, which enables the ac conductivity measurement under dc bias. The current and the magnetic field dependences of resonance properties were measured, and hysteretic behavior was observed as a function of the dc driving current. The observed shift in the inverse of the quality factor and the center frequency were understood by considering both the motion of vortices and the suppression of the order parameter with dc current. Our investigation revealed that the strongly pinned vortices have little infuluence on the change in the center frequency, while it still affects that of the quality factor. Our results indicate that an accurate understanding of the dynamics of driven vortices is indispensable when we attempt to control the resonance properties with high precision.

Superconducting FeSe0.8Te0.2 thin films on SrTiO3, LaAlO3 and CaF2 substrates were electrochemically etched in an ionic liquid DEME-TFSI electrolyte with a gate bias of 5 V. Superconductivity at 38 K was commonly observed on all substrates after etching the films with a thickness above 30 nm, in spite of different Tc of 8 K, 12 K and 19 K before the etching on SrTiO3, LaAlO3 and CaF2 substrates, respectively. Tc returned to the original value by removing the gate bias. The Tc enhancement on the thick film indicates no relationship between the Tc enhancement and any interface effects between the film and the substrate. The sheet resistance and the Hall coefficient of the surface conducting layer were estimated from the gate bias dependence of the transport properties. The sheet resistance of the surface conducting layer of the films on LaAlO3 and CaF2 showed an identical temperature dependence, and the Hall coefficient is almost temperature independent and -0.05 to -0.2 m2/C, corresponding to 4-17 electrons per one FeSe0.8Te0.2 unit cell area in two dimension. These common transport properties on various substrates suggest that the superconductivity at 38 K appeared in the surface conducting layer produced by electrochemical reaction between the surface of the FeSe0.8Te0.2 thin film and the ionic liquid electrolyte.

We report the successful growth of epitaxial thin films of FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ with $x \leq 0.43$ via pulsed laser deposition. As S content increases, the nematic transition temperature, $T_{\mathrm s}$, decreases systematically and the superconducting transition temperature, $T_{\mathrm c}$, shows a gradual decrease even when $x$ exceeds the nematic end point (NEP), similar to bulk samples. A new kink anomaly was observed in the $ρ$-$T$ curves for films with large $x$, which is likely due to a magnetic transition. The obtained phase diagram of FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ thin films is in contrast to that of FeSe$_{1-y}$Te$_y$ films, which shows a rapid increase of $T_{\mathrm c}$ at the NEP. Our results demonstrate that the relation between the nematic order and the superconductivity is not universal in the FeSe system, suggesting that the nematic transition does not play a primary role in the superconductivity in these materials.

We investigated the microwave conductivity spectrum of FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ epitaxial films on CaF$_2$ in the vicinity of the superconducting transition. We observed the critical behavior of the superconducting fluctuations in these films with a dimensional crossover from two-dimensional to three-dimensional as the film thickness increased. From the temperature dependence of the scaling parameters we conclude that the universality class of the superconducting transition in FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ is that of the 3D-XY model. The lower limit of the onset temperature of the superconducting fluctuations, Tonset, determined by our measurements was 1.1 Tc, suggesting that the superconducting fluctuations of FeSe$_{0.5}$Te$_{0.5}$ are at least as large as those of optimally- and over-doped cuprates.

One of central issues in iron-based superconductors is the role of structural change to the superconducting transition temperature (T_c). It was found in FeSe that the lattice strain leads to a drastic increase in T_c, accompanied by suppression of nematic order. By angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on tensile- or compressive-strained and strain-free FeSe, we experimentally show that the in-plane strain causes a marked change in the energy overlap (DeltaE_{h-e}) between the hole and electron pockets in the normal state. The change in DeltaE_{h-e} modifies the Fermi-surface volume, leading to a change in T_c. Furthermore, the strength of nematicity is also found to be characterized by DeltaE_{h-e}. These results suggest that the key to understanding the phase diagram is the fermiology and interactions linked to the semimetallic band overlap.

In addition, the temperature dependence of the Hall coefficient drastically changed between $x = 0.1$ and $0.2$ at low temperatures. We demonstrate the successful fabrication on CaF$_2$ substrates of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ films with $0 \le x \le 1$, including the region of $0.1 \le x \le 0.4$, which is well known to be the "phase-separation region", via pulsed laser deposition which is a thermodynamically non-equilibrium method. In the resulting films, we observe a giant enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature, $T_\mathrm{c}$, in the region of $0.1 \le x \le 0.4$: the maximum value reaches 23 K, which is approximately 1.5 times as large as the values reported for bulk samples of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$. We present a complete phase diagram of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ films. Surprisingly, a sudden suppression of $T_\mathrm{c}$ is observed at $0.1<x<0.2$, while $T_\mathrm{c}$ increases with decreasing $x$ for $0.2 \le x < 1$. Namely, there is a clear difference between superconductivity realized in $x=0-0.1$ and in $x \ge 0.2$. To obtain a film of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ with high $T_\mathrm{c}$, the controls of the Te content $x$ and the in-plane lattice strain are found to be key factors.

We report on a study of the superconducting order parameter in Fe(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$) thin films (with different Se contents: x=0.3, 0.4, 0.5) by means of point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy (PCARS). The PCARS spectra show reproducible evidence of multiple structures, namely two clear conductance maxima associated to a superconducting gap of amplitude $Δ_E \simeq 2.75 k_B T_c$ and additional shoulders at higher energy that, as we show, are the signature of the strong interaction of charge carriers with a bosonic mode whose characteristic energy coincides with the spin-resonance energy. The details of some PCARS spectra at low energy suggest the presence of a smaller and not easily discernible gap of amplitude $Δ_H \simeq 1.75 k_B T_c$. The existence of this gap and its amplitude are confirmed by PCARS measurements in Fe(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$) single crystals. The values of the two gaps $Δ_E$ and $Δ_H$, once plotted as a function of the local critical temperature $T_c^A$, turn out to be in perfect agreement with the results obtained by various experimental techniques reported in literature.

The observed $α$ value of $\approx0.66$ was considerably smaller than that of other Fe-based materials ($α\geq1$) and was attributed to a back-flow of superfluids remarkable in disordered superconductors. This is the first-time observation of the back-flow phenomenon caused by an origin other than the vortex pinning in multiple-band systems.

Based on the energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX) analysis, we found possible interdiffusion between fluorine and selenium that has a strong influence on the superconductivity in Fe(Te,Se) films. The chemical interdiffusion also plays a significant role in the variation of the lattice parameters. The lattice parameters of the Fe(Te,Se) thin films are primarily determined by the chemical substitution of anions, and the lattice mismatch only plays a secondary role.

We report on the anomalous behavior of the complex conductivity of BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$, which is related to the Dirac cone, in the terahertz (THz)-frequency region. Above the spin-density-wave (SDW) transition temperature, the conductivity spectra follow the Drude model. In the SDW state, the imaginary part of the complex conductivity, $σ_2$, is suppressed in comparison to that expected according to the Drude model. The real part, $σ_1$, exhibits nearly Drude-like behavior. This behavior (i.e., almost no changes in $σ_1$ and the depression of $σ_2$) can be regarded as the addition of extra conductivity without any dissipations in the Drude-type conductivity. The origin of this ultralow-dissipative conductivity is found to be due to conductivity contribution from quasiparticles within the Dirac cone. In other words, we are able to observe the dynamics of Dirac fermions through the conductivity spectra of BaFe$_2$As$_2$, clearly and directly.
