The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) is a large size (21m) Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) installed at an altitude of 4270m above sea level at Hanle, Ladakh in northern India. Here we report the detection of Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from Crab Nebula above 80 GeV. We analysed ~15 hours of data collected at low zenith angle between November 2022 and February 2023. The energy spectrum is well described by a log-parabola function with a flux of ~(3.46 +/- 0.26stat) x 10-10 TeV-1 cm-2 s-1, at 400 GeV with spectral index of 2.09 +/- 0.06stat and a curvature parameter of 0.08 +/- 0.07stat. The gamma-rays are detected in an energy range spanning from 80 GeV to ~5 TeV. The energy resolution improves from ~34% at an analysis energy threshold of 80 GeV to ~21% above 1 TeV. The daily light curve and the spectral energy distribution obtained for the Crab Nebula is in agreement with previous measurements, considering statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Fine-grained YAG:Nd ceramics with a relative density of ~99% were obtained by the Spark Plasma Sintering method (SPS). The radiation resistance of ceramics was studied under irradiation with swift Xe-ions (E = 146 MeV). A gradient defect structure is formed in irradiated ceramics, varying from layer to layer. The strained YAG phase formed as a result of Xe ions irradiation is localized in a near-surface layer with a thickness of ~5 μm. Full amorphization of the samples was observed under irradiation with a fluence of 1x10^13 cm-2. The calculated critical fluence was 6.5x10^12 cm-2, which corresponded to 0.03 dpa. The microhardness of the surface layers of irradiated ceramics is less than the central layers, and, in general, decreases with increasing ion fluence.

In-flight sensor fault diagnosis and recursive combination of residual signals via the Dempster-Shafer (DS) theory have been considered in this study. In particular, a novel evidence-based combination rule of residual errors as a function of a reliability measure derived from streaming data is proposed for the purpose of online robust sensors fault diagnosis. The proposed information fusion mechanism is divided into three steps. In the first step, the classic DS probability mass combination rule is applied; then, the difference between the previous posterior mass and the current prior mass associated with fault events is computed. Finally, the increment of the posterior mass of a fault event is weighted as a function of a reliability coefficient that depends on the norm of control activity. A Sensor Fault Isolation scheme based on the proposed combination rule has been worked out and compared with well-known state-of-the-art recursive combination rules. A quantitative analysis has been performed exploiting multi-flight data of a P92 Tecnam aircraft. The proposed approach showed to be effective, particularly in reducing the false alarms rate.

The configurational entropy is an indispensable tool to describe super-cooled liquids near the glass transition. Its calculation requires the enumeration of the basins in the potential energy landscape and when available, it reveals a direct connection with the relaxation time of the liquid. While there are several reports on the measurement of configurational entropy in passive liquids, very little is understood about its role in active liquids which have a propensity to undergo a glass transition at low temperatures. In this paper, we report a careful calculation of the configurational entropy in a model glass former where the constituent units are self propelled. We show that unlike passive liquids, the anharmonic contribution to the glass entropy in these self-propelled liquids can be of the same order as the harmonic contribution, and therefore must be included in the calculation of the configurational entropy. Our extracted configurational entropy is in good agreement with the generalized Adam-Gibbs relation predicted by the random first order transition theory enabling us to deduce a scaling relation between the configurational entropy and the point-to-set length scale in these active systems. Our findings could be of great utility in conventional active systems such as self-propelled granules, Janus particles and dense bacterial suspensions, to mention a few.

The results of dynamic strength tests of the alumina ceramics with various grain sizes are presented. The ceramics were obtained by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) of industrial submicron and fine Al2O3 powders. The heating up was performed with the rate of 10 oC/min; the grain sizes in the ceramics was controlled by varying the SPS temperature and the heating rate as well as by varying the initial sizes of the Al2O3 particles in the powders. The ceramics had a high density (over 98%) and a uniform fine-grained microstructure (the mean grain sizes varied from 0.8 to 13.4 mkm). The dynamic compressing tests were carried out by modified Kolsky method with using split Hopkinson pressure bar. The tests were performed at room temperature using a 20-mm PG-20 gas gun with the strain rate of ~10^3 s-1. The dependence of the dynamic ultimate strength of alumina on the grain size was found for the first time to have a non-monotonous character (with a maximum). The maximum value of the dynamic ultimate compression strength (SY = 1060 MPa) was provided at the mean grain size of ~2.9-3 mkm. The reduction of SY for alumina in the range of submicron grain sizes was shown to originate from the reduction of the relative density of the ceramics sintered at lower SPS temperatures.

The increasing popularity of social media platforms makes it important to study user engagement, which is a crucial aspect of any marketing strategy or business model. The over-saturation of content on social media platforms has persuaded us to identify the important factors that affect content popularity. This comes from the fact that only an iota of the humongous content available online receives the attention of the target audience. Comprehensive research has been done in the area of popularity prediction using several Machine Learning techniques. However, we observe that there is still significant scope for improvement in analyzing the social importance of media content. We propose the DFW-PP framework, to learn the importance of different features that vary over time. Further, the proposed method controls the skewness of the distribution of the features by applying a log-log normalization. The proposed method is experimented with a benchmark dataset, to show promising results. The code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/chaitnayabasava/DFW-PP.

Text summarization is an approach for identifying important information present within text documents. This computational technique aims to generate shorter versions of the source text, by including only the relevant and salient information present within the source text. In this paper, we propose a novel method to summarize a text document by clustering its contents based on latent topics produced using topic modeling techniques and by generating extractive summaries for each of the identified text clusters. All extractive sub-summaries are later combined to generate a summary for any given source document. We utilize the lesser used and challenging WikiHow dataset in our approach to text summarization. This dataset is unlike the commonly used news datasets which are available for text summarization. The well-known news datasets present their most important information in the first few lines of their source texts, which make their summarization a lesser challenging task when compared to summarizing the WikiHow dataset. Contrary to these news datasets, the documents in the WikiHow dataset are written using a generalized approach and have lesser abstractedness and higher compression ratio, thus proposing a greater challenge to generate summaries. A lot of the current state-of-the-art text summarization techniques tend to eliminate important information present in source documents in the favor of brevity. Our proposed technique aims to capture all the varied information present in source documents. Although the dataset proved challenging, after performing extensive tests within our experimental setup, we have discovered that our model produces encouraging ROUGE results and summaries when compared to the other published extractive and abstractive text summarization models.

LOCNES (LOw-Cost NIR Extended Solar telescope) is a solar telescope installed at the TNG (Telescopio Nazionale Galileo). It feeds the light of the Sun into the NIR spectrograph GIANO-B through a 40-m patch of optical fibers. LOCNES has been designed to obtain high signal-to-noise ratio spectra of the Sun as a star with an accurate wavelength calibration through molecular-band cells. This is an entirely new area of investigation that will provide timely results to improve the search of telluric planets with NIR spectrographs such as iSHELL, CARMENES, and GIANO-B. We will extract several disc-integrated activity indicators and average magnetic field measurements for the Sun in the NIR. Eventually, they will be correlated with both the RV of the Sun-as-a -star and the resolved images of the solar disc in visible and NIR. Such an approach will allow for a better understanding of the origin of activity-induced RV variations in the two spectral domains and will help in improving the techniques for their corrections. In this paper, we outline the science drivers for the LOCNES project and its first commissioning results.

Encryption is a simple yet effective way to protect our data while transmitting it to a destination. The proposed method has state of art technology of steganography and encryption. This paper puts forward a different approach for data hiding in speech signals. A ten-digit number within speech signal using audio steganography and encrypting it with a unique key for better security. At the receiver end the same unique key is used to decrypt the received signal and then hidden numbers are extracted. The proposed approach performance can be evaluated by PSNR, MSE, SSIM and bit-error rate. The simulation results give better performance compared to existing approach.

Predicting transport from equilibrium structure is a challenging problem in liquid state physics. Here we probe a glass forming liquid composed of self-propelled "active" particles and show that increasing the duration of self-propulsion $τ_p$ makes the pair excess entropy $S_2$ more negative, thereby reducing the number of accessible configurations per particle. At moderate values of effective temperature $T$, the self-diffusivity is Arrhenius and in a reduced form obeys a Dzugutov like scaling law $D^* \sim e^{αS_2}$, directly yielding us the scaling formula $S_2 \sim -1/T$. In the strongly super-cooled regime, Dzugutov law does not apply and the entropy
follows a power law $S_2 \sim -1/T^β$ all the way up to the glass transition $T_g$. To demonstrate generality, we set the particle interactions to be purely repulsive (PR) in one case and Lennard-Jones (LJ) in the other, and find that in both the cases, the reported scaling laws are robust over three decades of variation in $τ_p$. Our results may apply to transport in active colloidal suspensions, passive tracers in bacterial baths, and self-propelled granular media, to mention a few.

To overcome this problem, the proposed method is divided in three main parts: generation of new spoof images, based on style transfer and spoof image representation models; training of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for liveness detection; evaluation of the live and spoof testing images for each subject. The generalization of the CNN to perform style transfer has shown promising qualitative results. Preliminary results have shown that the proposed method is capable of distinguishing between live and spoof images on the SiW database, with an average classification error rate of 0.22.

The centralized architecture in software-defined network (SDN) provides a global view of the underlying network, paving the way for enormous research in the area of SDN traffic engineering (SDN TE). This research focuses on the load balancing aspects of SDN TE, given that the existing reactive methods for data-plane load balancing eventually result in packet loss and proactive schemes for data plane load balancing do not address congestion propagation. In the proposed work, the SDN controller periodically monitors flow level statistics and utilization on each link in the network and over-utilized links that cause network congestion and packet loss are identified as bottleneck links. For load balancing the identified largest flow and further traffic through these bottleneck links are rerouted through the lightly-loaded alternate path. The proposed scheme models a Bayesian Network using the observed port utilization and residual bandwidth to decide whether the newly computed alternate path can handle the new flow load before flow admission which in turn reduces congestion propagation. The simulation results show that when the network traffic increases the proposed method efficiently re-routes the flows and balance the network load which substantially improves the network efficiency and the quality of service (QoS) parameters.

It is found that the outer junctions can be synchronized while they remain uncorrelated to the inner ones when an external biasing is applied. The stability of the solution is found out for the outer junctions in the synchronization manifold. Symmetry considerations lead to a situation wherein the inner junctions can synchronize for certain values of parameter. In the presence of a phase difference between the applied fields, all the junctions exhibit phase synchronization. It is also found that chaotic motion changes to periodic in the presence of phase differences.

We have measured the rest-frame B,V, and I-band light curves of a high-redshift type Ia supernova (SN Ia), SN 1999Q (z=0.46), using HST and ground-based near-infrared detectors.
A goal of this study is the measurement of the color excess, E_{B-I}, which is a sensitive indicator of interstellar or intergalactic dust which could affect recent cosmological measurements from high-redshift SNe Ia. Our observations disfavor a 30% opacity of SN Ia visual light by dust as an alternative to an accelerating Universe. This statement applies to both Galactic-type dust
(rejected at the 3.4 sigma confidence level) and greyer dust (grain size > 0.1 microns; rejected at the 2.3 to 2.6 sigma confidence level) as proposed by Aguirre (1999). The rest-frame $I$-band light cur ve shows the secondary maximum a month after B maximum typical of nearby SNe Ia of normal luminosi ty, providing no indication of evolution as a function of redshift out to z~0.5. A n expanded set of similar observations could improve the constraints on any contribution of extragalactic dust to the dimming of high-redshift SNe Ia.
