Tuberculosis remains a significant global health challenge, with millions of new cases reported annually. Recent studies suggest that expanding the accessibility of TB intervention programs can lead to a substantial decrease in both TB incidence and prevalence. This paper initiates by examining a deterministic mathematical model for TB transmission, aiming to analyze the underlying dynamics. Subsequently, an optimal control problem is formulated to enhance TB control measures, encompassing Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) and other initiatives targeting malnutrition and diabetes. Through simulation studies, the effectiveness of the control program is assessed. The model dynamics allow us to identify the pseudo-prevalence and incidence. To determine the potential long-term trajectory of TB and to acquire future projections a cost-effectiveness analysis is performed using ACER, AIR, ICER, and four quadrants to compare competing interventions. In conclusion, this work provides valuable insights into TB and strategies for its control and cost effectiveness.

We report the existence of optical Tamm states (OTS) in inverse opal (IO) - based three-dimensional photonic crystal on a flat metal substrate, validated through both numerical simulations and experimental observations. Our fabrication approach for the Tamm inverse opal (Tamm-IO) structure is notably straightforward and does not involve corrosive chemicals. Upon infiltration of non-reactive solvents such as methanol and ethanol into the IO, a noticeable shift of the OTS, consistent with our simulations is observed, and the temporal dynamics of the same have been investigated. The experimentally obtained sensitivity is ~ 110 nm/RIU which is of the same order as the computed value, making the IO OTS to be an attractive sensing tool.

The Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) is a large size (21m) Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT) installed at an altitude of 4270m above sea level at Hanle, Ladakh in northern India. Here we report the detection of Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from Crab Nebula above 80 GeV. We analysed ~15 hours of data collected at low zenith angle between November 2022 and February 2023. The energy spectrum is well described by a log-parabola function with a flux of ~(3.46 +/- 0.26stat) x 10-10 TeV-1 cm-2 s-1, at 400 GeV with spectral index of 2.09 +/- 0.06stat and a curvature parameter of 0.08 +/- 0.07stat. The gamma-rays are detected in an energy range spanning from 80 GeV to ~5 TeV. The energy resolution improves from ~34% at an analysis energy threshold of 80 GeV to ~21% above 1 TeV. The daily light curve and the spectral energy distribution obtained for the Crab Nebula is in agreement with previous measurements, considering statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health threat, ranking among the leading causes of mortality worldwide. In this context, machine learning (ML) has emerged as a transformative force, providing innovative solutions to the complexities associated with TB treatment. This study explores how machine learning, especially with tabular data, can be used to predict Tuberculosis (TB) treatment outcomes more accurately. It transforms this prediction task into a binary classification problem, generating risk scores from patient data sourced from NIKSHAY, India's national TB control program, which includes over 500,000 patient records.
Data preprocessing is a critical component of the study, and the model achieved an recall of 98% and an AUC-ROC score of 0.95 on the validation set, which includes 20,000 patient records. We also explore the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for improved model learning. Our results, corroborated by various metrics and ablation studies, validate the effectiveness of our approach. The study concludes by discussing the potential ramifications of our research on TB eradication efforts and proposing potential avenues for future work. This study marks a significant stride in the battle against TB, showcasing the potential of machine learning in healthcare.

The dynamics of strongly interacting particles are governed by Yang-Mills (Y-M) theory, which is a natural generalization of Maxwell Electrodynamics (ED). Its quantized version is known as quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and has been very well studied. Classical Y-M theory is proving to be equally interesting because of the central role it plays in describing the physics of quark-gluon plasma (QGP)-which was prevalent in the early universe and is also produced in relativistic heavy ion collision experiments. This calls for a systematic study of classical Y-M theories. A good insight into classical Y-M dynamics would be best obtained by comparing and contrasting the Y-M results with their ED counterparts. In this article, a beginning has been made by considering streaming instabilities in Y-M fluids. We find that in addition to analogues of ED instabilities, novel nonabelian modes arise, reflecting the inherent nonabelian nature of the interaction. The new modes exhibit propagation/ growth, with growth rates that can be larger than what we find in ED. Interestingly, we also find a mode that propagates without getting affected by the medium.

The distinctive features of the system are the use of spectrometers, acquisition system and lasers that meet the base requirements for ITER TS diagnostics. The paper describes the diagnostic system that allows precise measurements of TS signals, as well as the results of the first measurements of electron temperature and density in both central region of the plasma column and scrape-off layer. The system provides measurements of electron temperature $T_{e}$ in the range of 5 eV to 5 keV and density $n_{e}$ in the range of $5{\cdot}10^{17}÷3.25{\cdot}10^{20} m^{-3}$. The use of two ITER-grade probing lasers of different wavelengths (Nd:YAG 1064.5 nm and Nd:YLF 1047.3 nm) allows reliable measurement of $T_{e}$ in multi-colour mode, i.e., assuming that spectral calibration is unknown.

The disorder induced feedback makes random lasers very susceptible to any changes in the scattering medium. The sensitivity of the lasing modes to perturbations in the disordered systems have been utilized to map the regions of perturbation. A tracking parameter, that takes into account the cumulative effect of changes in the spatial distribution of the lasing modes of the system has been defined to locate the region in which a scatterer is displaced by a few nanometers. We show numerically that the precision of the method increases with the number of modes. The proposed method opens up the possibility of application of random lasers as a tool for monitoring locations of nanoscale displacement which can be useful for single particle detection and monitoring.

It is known that the rings $M_n(R)$ and $T_n(R)$ (the ring of all upper triangular matrices over $R$) are not i-reversible for $n \geq 3$. In this article, we provide a non-trivial i-reversible subring of $M_n(R)$ when $n \geq 3$ and $R$ has only trivial idempotents. We further provide a maximal i-reversible subring of $T_n(R)$ for each $n\geq 3$, if $R$ is a field. We then give conditions for i-reversibility of Trivial, Dorroh and Nagata extensions. Finally, we give some independent sufficient conditions for i-reversibility of polynomial rings, and more generally, of skew polynomial rings.

The increasing popularity of social media platforms makes it important to study user engagement, which is a crucial aspect of any marketing strategy or business model. The over-saturation of content on social media platforms has persuaded us to identify the important factors that affect content popularity. This comes from the fact that only an iota of the humongous content available online receives the attention of the target audience. Comprehensive research has been done in the area of popularity prediction using several Machine Learning techniques. However, we observe that there is still significant scope for improvement in analyzing the social importance of media content. We propose the DFW-PP framework, to learn the importance of different features that vary over time. Further, the proposed method controls the skewness of the distribution of the features by applying a log-log normalization. The proposed method is experimented with a benchmark dataset, to show promising results. The code will be made publicly available at https://github.com/chaitnayabasava/DFW-PP.

We present 17 transit light curves of seven known warm-Jupiters observed with the CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS). The light curves have been collected as part of the CHEOPS Guaranteed Time Observation (GTO) program that searches for transit-timing variation (TTV) of warm-Jupiters induced by a possible external perturber to shed light on the evolution path of such planetary systems. We describe the CHEOPS observation process, from the planning to the data analysis. In this work we focused on the timing performance of CHEOPS, the impact of the sampling of the transit phases, and the improvement we can obtain combining multiple transits together. We reached the highest precision on the transit time of about 13-16 s for the brightest target (WASP-38, G = 9.2) in our sample. From the combined analysis of multiple transits of fainter targets with G >= 11 we obtained a timing precision of about 2 min. Additional observations with CHEOPS, covering a longer temporal baseline, will further improve the precision on the transit times and will allow us to detect possible TTV signals induced by an external perturber.

In this paper, we propose an end-to-end learning based approach which uses a modified conditional Generative Adversarial Network to directly remove haze from an image. We employ the usage of the Tiramisu model in place of the classic U-Net model as the generator owing to its higher parameter efficiency and performance. Moreover, a patch based discriminator was used to reduce artefacts in the output. To further improve the perceptual quality of the output, a hybrid weighted loss function was designed and used to train the model. Experiments on synthetic and real world hazy images demonstrates that our model performs competitively with the state of the art methods.

We propose a camera-based assistive text reading framework to help blind persons read text labels and product packaging from hand-held objects in their daily life. To isolate the object from untidy backgrounds or other surrounding objects in the camera vision, we initially propose an efficient and effective motion based method to define a region of interest (ROI) in the video by asking the user to tremble the object. This scheme extracts moving object region by a mixture-of-Gaussians-based background subtraction technique. In the extracted ROI, text localization and recognition are conducted to acquire text details. To automatically focus the text regions from the object ROI, we offer a novel text localization algorithm by learning gradient features of stroke orientations and distributions of edge pixels in an Adaboost model. Text characters in the localized text regions are then binarized and recognized by off-the-shelf optical character identification software. The renowned text codes are converted into audio output to the blind users. Performance of the suggested text localization algorithm is quantitatively evaluated on ICDAR-2003 and ICDAR-2011 Robust Reading Datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm achieves the highest level of developments at present time. The proof-of-concept example is also evaluated on a dataset collected using ten blind persons to evaluate the effectiveness of the scheme. We explore the user interface issues and robustness of the algorithm in extracting and reading text from different objects with complex backgrounds.

At room temperature its sensitivity is limited only by the bar brownian noise at the bandwidth close to one hundred hertz. It is destined for a searching for rare events - gravitational pulses coincident with signals of neutrino scintillator (BUST) in the deep underground of Baksan Neutrino Observatory of INR RAS.

A telescope of two coaxial scintillation detectors (an upper thin CsJ crystal of d63x0,35mm2 and a lower thick NaJ crystal of d150x100 mm2) located vertically on the surface of the Earth was used to have during T=106 hours 20 events registered with increased specific ionization in each detector that turned out to exceed 10 times the specific ionization caused by cosmic rays. All the events excluding three background events are within two standard deviations from a curve calculated for non-relativistic single charged particles with mass M=(175 +/- 25)GeV/C2, flying vertically along the telescope. Based upon the condition of being non-relativistic and the limitations on the dimentions of the experimental set-up, it follows that their life-time t >1,5*10-9s. Their intensity in cosmic rays on the Earth surface is J=(1,8 +/- 0,4)*10-6cm-2 ster-1 s-1 (at E<6 GeV, P<50 GeV/C). The events disclosed are in full correspondence with our phenomenological predictions, with previous experimental results in the course of searching them for, and with the predictions of the "mirror model" which interpreters a possibility of existing hypothetical stable heavy hadrons (Erzions).
