Radiative Corrections: From Medium to High Energy Experiments
Abstract: Radiative corrections are crucial for modern high-precision physics experiments, and are an area of active research in the experimental and theoretical community. Here we provide an overview of the state of the field of radiative corrections with a focus on several topics: lepton-proton scattering, QED corrections in deep-inelastic scattering, and in radiative light-hadron decays. Abstract: Heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT), where the $Δ$ resonance is included, is used in order to examine the axial charged-current component of the weak interaction process at low neutrino energies. Neutrino-deuteron reactions at solar neutrino energies
Abstract: In interpreting the SNO experiments, very accurate estimates of the νd reaction cross sections are of great importance. We improve the previous estimates of our group by updating some of its inputs and by taking into account the results of a recent effective-field-theoretical calculation. The new cross sections are slightly (\sim 1%) larger than the previously reported values. We present argumen… ▽ More

Muon capture in hydrogen
Abstract: Theoretical difficulties in reconciling the measured rates for ordinary and radiative muon capture are discussed, based on heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. We also examine ambiguity in our analysis due to the formation of p$μ$p molecules in the liquid hydrogen target.

Analysis of ordinary and radiative muon capture in liquid hydrogen
Abstract: A simultaneous analysis is made of the measured rates of ordinary muon capture (OMC) and radiative muon capture (RMC) in liquid hydrogen, using theoretical estimates for the relevant atomic capture rates that have been obtained in chiral perturbation theory with the use of the most recent values of the coupling constants. We reexamine the basic formulas for relating the atomic OMC and RMC rates… ▽ More

The $μ^-d$ capture rate in effective field theory
Abstract: Muon capture on the deuteron is studied in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). It is found that by far the dominant contribution to $μd$ capture comes from a region of the final three-body phase-space in which the energy of the two neutrons is sufficiently small for HBChPT to be applicable. The single unknown low-energy constant having been fixed from the tritium beta decay rate, o… ▽ More

Toy Model for Pion Production in Nucleon-Nucleon Collisions
Abstract: We develop a toy model of pion production in nucleon-nucleon collisions that reproduces some of the features of the chiral Lagrangian calculations. We calculate the production amplitude and examine some common approximations.

Capture rate and neutron helicity asymmetry for ordinary muon capture on hydrogen
Abstract: Applying heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory to ordinary muon capture (OMC) on a proton, we calculate the capture rate and neutron helicity asymmetry up to next-to-next-to-leading order. For the singlet hyperfine state, we obtain the capture rate Gamma_0 = 695 sec^{-1} while, for the triplet hyperfine state, we obtain the capture rate Gamma_1 = 11.9 sec^{-1} and the neutron asymmetry alpha_1… ▽ More
