Abstract:
We study quenched mixing rates for two classes of random interval maps characterized by the presence of two indifferent fixed points and singular points. Using a random tower construction we prove the existence of an equivariant absolutely continuous probability measures with polynomial decay of correlations.

Autonomous navigation capabilities play a critical role in service robots operating in environments where human interactions are pivotal, due to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of these environments. However, the variability in human behavior presents a substantial challenge for robots in predicting and anticipating movements, particularly in crowded scenarios. To address this issue, a memory-enabled deep reinforcement learning framework is proposed for autonomous robot navigation in diverse pedestrian scenarios. The proposed framework leverages long-term memory to retain essential information about the surroundings and model sequential dependencies effectively. The importance of human-robot interactions is also encoded to assign higher attention to these interactions. A global planning mechanism is incorporated into the memory-enabled architecture. Additionally, a multi-term reward system is designed to prioritize and encourage long-sighted robot behaviors by incorporating dynamic warning zones. Simultaneously, it promotes smooth trajectories and minimizes the time taken to reach the robot's desired goal. Extensive simulation experiments show that the suggested approach outperforms representative state-of-the-art methods, showcasing its ability to a navigation efficiency and safety in real-world scenarios.

A state-of-the-art systematic review on XAI applied to Prognostic and Health Management (PHM) of industrial asset is presented. This work provides an overview of the general trend of XAI in PHM, answers the question of accuracy versus explainability, the extent of human involvement, the explanation assessment and uncertainty quantification in PHM-XAI domain. Research articles associated with the subject, from 2015 to 2021 were selected from five known databases following PRISMA guidelines. Data was then extracted from the selected articles and examined. Several findings were synthesized. Firstly, while the discipline is still young, the analysis indicated the growing acceptance of XAI in PHM domain. Secondly, XAI functions as a double edge sword, where it is assimilated as a tool to execute PHM tasks as well as a mean of explanation, particularly in diagnostic and anomaly detection activities, implying a real need for XAI in PHM. Thirdly, the review showed that PHM-XAI papers produce either good or excellent result in general, suggesting that PHM performance is unaffected by XAI. Fourthly, human role, evaluation metrics and uncertainty management are areas requiring further attention by the PHM community. Adequate assessment metrics to cater for PHM need are urgently needed. Finally, most case study featured on the accepted articles are based on real, industrial data, indicating that the available PHM-XAI blends are fit to solve complex,real-world challenges, increasing the confidence in AI adoption in the industry.

Deep neural networks are ubiquitous due to the ease of develo** models and their influence on other domains. At the heart of this progress is convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that are capable of learning representations or features given a set of data. Making sense of such complex models (i.e., millions of parameters and hundreds of layers) remains challenging for developers as well as the end-users. This is partially due to the lack of tools or interfaces capable of providing interpretability and transparency. A growing body of literature, for example, class activation map (CAM), focuses on making sense of what a model learns from the data or why it behaves poorly in a given task. This paper builds on previous ideas to cope with the increasing demand for interpretable, robust, and transparent models. Our approach provides a simpler and intuitive (or familiar) way of generating CAM. The proposed Eigen-CAM computes and visualizes the principle components of the learned features/representations from the convolutional layers. Empirical studies were performed to compare the Eigen-CAM with the state-of-the-art methods (such as Grad-CAM, Grad-CAM++, CNN-fixations) by evaluating on benchmark datasets such as weakly-supervised localization and localizing objects in the presence of adversarial noise. Eigen-CAM was found to be robust against classification errors made by fully connected layers in CNNs, does not rely on the backpropagation of gradients, class relevance score, maximum activation locations, or any other form of weighting features. In addition, it works with all CNN models without the need to modify layers or retrain models. Empirical results show up to 12% improvement over the best method among the methods compared on weakly supervised object localization.

Complexity and nonlinear behaviours of inverted pendulum system make its control design a very challenging task. In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy adaptive control system using model reference approach is designed for inverted-pendulum system control. The proposed method is developed to achieve position control and later simultaneous control of position and pendulum angle in the same control loop. Also, the control algorithm is applied to achieve control objective of reference tracking, disturbance rejection and robustness to parameter variation. The performance of the proposed control scheme was compared with conventional PID and LQR controllers. The simulation results showed that the proposed control scheme provides high-performance dynamic characteristics and is robust with regard to parametric variations, disturbance and reference tracking compared to the comparatives

Photons for quantum technologies have been identified early on as a very good candidate for carrying quantum information encoded onto them, either by polarization encoding, time encoding or spatial encoding. Quantum cryptography, quantum communications, quantum networks in general and quantum computing are some of the applications targeted by what is now called quantum photonics. Nevertheless, it was pretty clear at an early stage that bulk optics for handling quantum states of light with photons would not be able to deliver what is needed for these technologies. More recently, single photons, entangled photons and quantum optics in general have been coupled to more integrated approaches coming from classical optics in order to meet the requirements of scalability, reliablility and efficiency for quantum technologies. In this article, we develop our recent advances in two different nanophotonic platforms for quantum photonics using elongated optical fibers and integrated glass waveguides made by the so-called ion-exchange technique. We also present our latest results on quantum nanoemitters that we plan to couple and incorporate with our photonics platforms. These nanoemitters are of two kinds: nanocrystals made of perovskites as well as silicon-vacancy defect centers in nanodiamonds. Some of their properties are developed in this work. We will then give the general steps necessary in order to couple these nanoemitters efficiently with our platforms in the near future.

The Josephson supercurrent in a Nb-InAs nanowire-Nb junction was studied experimentally. The nanowire goes superconducting due to the proximity effect, and can sustain a phase coherent supercurrent. An unexpected modulation of the junction critical current in an axial magnetic field is observed, which we attribute to a novel form of Josephson interference, due to the multi-band nature of the nanowire. Andreev pairs occupying states of different orbital angular momentum acquire different superconducting phases, producing oscillations of the critical current versus magnetic flux. We develop a semi-classical multi-band model that reproduces the experimental data well. While spin-orbit and Zeeman effects are predicted to produce similar behaviour, the orbital effects are dominant in the device studied here. This interplay between orbital states and magnetic field should be accounted for in the study of multi-band nanowire Josephson junctions, in particular, regarding the search for signatures of topological superconductivity in such devices.
