Geosteering, a key component of drilling operations, traditionally involves manual interpretation of various data sources such as well-log data. This introduces subjective biases and inconsistent procedures. Academic attempts to solve geosteering decision optimization with greedy optimization and Approximate Dynamic Programming (ADP) showed promise but lacked adaptivity to realistic diverse scenarios. Reinforcement learning (RL) offers a solution to these challenges, facilitating optimal decision-making through reward-based iterative learning. State estimation methods, e.g., particle filter (PF), provide a complementary strategy for geosteering decision-making based on online information. We integrate an RL-based geosteering with PF to address realistic geosteering scenarios. Our framework deploys PF to process real-time well-log data to estimate the location of the well relative to the stratigraphic layers, which then informs the RL-based decision-making process. We compare our method's performance with that of using solely either RL or PF. Our findings indicate a synergy between RL and PF in yielding optimized geosteering decisions.

Trajectory adjustment decisions throughout the drilling process, called geosteering, affect subsequent choices and information gathering, thus resulting in a coupled sequential decision problem. Previous works on applying decision optimization methods in geosteering rely on greedy optimization or Approximate Dynamic Programming (ADP). Either decision optimization method requires explicit uncertainty and objective function models, making develo** decision optimization methods for complex and realistic geosteering environments challenging to impossible. We use the Deep Q-Network (DQN) method, a model-free reinforcement learning (RL) method that learns directly from the decision environment, to optimize geosteering decisions. The expensive computations for RL are handled during the offline training stage. Evaluating DQN needed for real-time decision support takes milliseconds and is faster than the traditional alternatives. Moreover, for two previously published synthetic geosteering scenarios, our results show that RL achieves high-quality outcomes comparable to the quasi-optimal ADP. Yet, the model-free nature of RL means that by replacing the training environment, we can extend it to problems where the solution to ADP is prohibitively expensive to compute. This flexibility will allow applying it to more complex environments and make hybrid versions trained with real data in the future.

Texture in dense or porous ceramics can enhance their functional and structural properties. Current methods for texturation employ anisotropic particles as starting powders and processes that drive their orientation into specific directions. Using ultra-low magnetic fields combined with slip casting, it is possible to purposely orient magnetically responsive particles in any direction. When those particles are suspended with nanoparticles, templated grain growth occurs during sintering to yield a textured ceramic. Yet, the final grains are usually micrometric, leading weak mechanical properties. Here, we explore how to tune the grain orientation size using magnetic slip casting and templated grain growth. Our strategy consists in changing the size of the anisotropic powders and ensuring that magnetic alignment and densification occurs. The obtained ceramics featured a large range of grain anisotropy, with submicrometric thickness and anisotropic properties. Textured ceramics with tunable grains dimensions and porosity are promising for filtering, biomedical or composite applications.

Deep neural networks are ubiquitous due to the ease of develo** models and their influence on other domains. At the heart of this progress is convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that are capable of learning representations or features given a set of data. Making sense of such complex models (i.e., millions of parameters and hundreds of layers) remains challenging for developers as well as the end-users. This is partially due to the lack of tools or interfaces capable of providing interpretability and transparency. A growing body of literature, for example, class activation map (CAM), focuses on making sense of what a model learns from the data or why it behaves poorly in a given task. This paper builds on previous ideas to cope with the increasing demand for interpretable, robust, and transparent models. Our approach provides a simpler and intuitive (or familiar) way of generating CAM. The proposed Eigen-CAM computes and visualizes the principle components of the learned features/representations from the convolutional layers. Empirical studies were performed to compare the Eigen-CAM with the state-of-the-art methods (such as Grad-CAM, Grad-CAM++, CNN-fixations) by evaluating on benchmark datasets such as weakly-supervised localization and localizing objects in the presence of adversarial noise. Eigen-CAM was found to be robust against classification errors made by fully connected layers in CNNs, does not rely on the backpropagation of gradients, class relevance score, maximum activation locations, or any other form of weighting features. In addition, it works with all CNN models without the need to modify layers or retrain models. Empirical results show up to 12% improvement over the best method among the methods compared on weakly supervised object localization.

The Government through the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (Kemkominfo) held the 100 Smart Cities Program, an effort to improve the quality of public services. The program produces a Smart City Masterplan to develop regencies and cities. Access to the website of the regencies-cities government that is member of the program is one success indicator of using technology for the community, because the accessing speed (loading time) and responsiveness of the website is a convenience factor in service users. Hence, the importance of viewing and monitoring public service websites related to public service information in loading time and responsiveness of the website. From the data of regencies-cities registered in this program, many of them are from West Java Province, recorded around 11 of the total 26 regencies-cities. This study presents a website assessment using weighting method that focuses on loading time and responsiveness to see the performance of community services provided by the municipal governments that are incorporated in a smart city case study in West Java Province. There are six parameters in weighting performance of website used in this study, namely first-contentful-paint, first-meaningful-paint, speed-index, interactive, first-cpu-idle, and max potential first input delay. The weighting value is compared with Google's dataset, CrUX (Chrome User Experience Report). The test results show that the majority of websites have an average performance of 38.7 (mobile) 63.6 (web) of the 530 websites incorporated in the smart city, with the best results obtained by the City of Bandung.

An attitude of satellite is not always static, sometimes it moves randomly and the antenna pointing of satellite is harder to achieve line of sight communication to other satellite when it is outage by tumbling effect. In order to determine an appropriate direction of satellite antenna in inter-satellite link, this paper analyze estimation performance of the direction of arrival (DoA) using MUSIC algorithm from connected satellite signal source. It differs from optical measurement, magnetic field measurement, inertial measurement, and global positioning system (GPS) attitude determination. The proposed method is characterized by taking signal source from connected satellites, after that the main satellite processed the information to obtain connected satellites antenna direction. The simulation runs only on the direction of azimuth. The simulation result shows that MUSIC algorithm processing time is faster than satellite movement time in orbit on altitude of 830 km with the period of 101 minutes. With the use of a 50 elements array antenna in spacing of 0.5 wavelength, the total of 20 angle of arrival (AoA) can be detected in 0.98 seconds of processing time when using MUSIC algorithm.
