Scale analysis based on coarse-graining has been proposed recently as an alternative to Fourier analysis. It is now broadly used to analyze energy spectra and energy transfers in eddy-resolving ocean simulations. However, for data from unstructured-mesh models it requires interpolation to a regular grid. We present a high-performance Python implementation of an alternative coarse-graining method which relies on implicit filters using discrete Laplacians. This method can work on arbitrary (structured or unstructured) meshes and is applicable to the direct output of unstructured-mesh ocean circulation atmosphere models. The computation is split into two phases: preparation and solving. The first one is specific only to the mesh. This allows for auxiliary arrays that are then computed to be reused, significantly reducing the computation time. The second part consists of sparse matrix algebra and solving linear system. Our implementation is accelerated by GPUs to achieve unmatched performance and scalability. This results in processing data based on meshes with more than 10M surface vertices in a matter of seconds. As an illustration, the method is applied to compute spatial spectra of ocean currents from high-resolution FESOM2 simulations.

Supermagnified stars are gravitationally lensed individual stars that are located close to a caustic of a lensing galaxy cluster, and have their flux magnified by a large enough factor (typically ~ 1000) to make them detectable with present telescopes. The maximum magnification is limited by microlensing caused by intracluster stars or other compact objects, which create a network of corrugated critical lines with an angular width proportional to the surface density of microlenses. We consider a set of 9 cases of supermagnified stars reported in the literature, and derive an upper limit on the surface density of compact objects, such as primordial black holes, that might be present as a fraction of the dark matter in addition to known intracluster stars. Any such additional compact objects would widen the corrugated critical line network and therefore the width of the distribution of supermagnified stars around the modeled critical lines of the lens. We find that any compact objects, including primordial black holes, with masses above $\sim 10^{-6}\, M_{\odot}$ (for which the microcaustics are smaller than the typical angular size of supermagnified stars) cannot account for more than ~ 3% of the dark matter.

Twenty years of gravity observations from various satellite missions have provided unique data about mass redistribution processes in the Earth system. This paper studies the benefit of enhanced electrostatic and novel optical accelerometers and gradiometers for the future gravimetry missions. One of the limiting factors in the current space gravimetry missions is the drift of the Electrostatic Accelerometers (EA). This study focuses on the modeling of enhanced EAs with laser-interferometric readout, so called 'optical accelerometers', and on evaluating their performance for gravity field recovery in future satellite missions. In this paper, we simulate gravimetry missions in multiple scopes, applying the various software modules for satellite dynamics integration, accelerometer (ACC) and gradiometer simulation and gravity field recovery. The total noise budget of the modeled enhanced Electrostatic and optical ACCs show a similar sensitivity as the ACC concepts from other research groups. Parametrization w.r.t. ACCs test mass (TM) weight and the gap between the test mass and surrounding electrode housing confirmed previously known results that an ACC with a heavier TM and larger gap will have better performance. Our results suggest that the anticipated gain of novel ACCs might at some point be potentially limited by noise from the inter-satellite laser ranging interferometry. In order to present the advantage of the novel sensors, time-variable background models and associated aliasing errors were not considered in our simulations. Utilization of enhanced EA and optical ACC show a significant improvement of accuracy w.r.t. current GRACE-like EA. Also, their benefit in double satellite pairs in a so called 'Bender' constellations as well as in the combination of low-low satellite-to-satellite tracking with cross-track gradiometry has been investigated.

With nearly one million new cases diagnosed worldwide in 2020, head \& neck cancer is a deadly and common malignity. There are challenges to decision making and treatment of such cancer, due to lesions in multiple locations and outcome variability between patients. Therefore, automated segmentation and prognosis estimation approaches can help ensure each patient gets the most effective treatment. This paper presents a framework to perform these functions on arbitrary field of view (FoV) PET and CT registered scans, thus approaching tasks 1 and 2 of the HECKTOR 2022 challenge as team \texttt{VokCow}. The method consists of three stages: localization, segmentation and survival prediction. First, the scans with arbitrary FoV are cropped to the head and neck region and a u-shaped convolutional neural network (CNN) is trained to segment the region of interest. Then, using the obtained regions, another CNN is combined with a support vector machine classifier to obtain the semantic segmentation of the tumours, which results in an aggregated Dice score of 0.57 in task 1. Finally, survival prediction is approached with an ensemble of Weibull accelerated failure times model and deep learning methods. In addition to patient health record data, we explore whether processing graphs of image patches centred at the tumours via graph convolutions can improve the prognostic predictions. A concordance index of 0.64 was achieved in the test set, ranking 6th in the challenge leaderboard for this task.

Retinal fundus images can be an invaluable diagnosis tool for screening epidemic diseases like hypertension or diabetes. And they become especially useful when the arterioles and venules they depict are clearly identified and annotated. However, manual annotation of these vessels is extremely time demanding and taxing, which calls for automatic segmentation. Although convolutional neural networks can achieve high overlap between predictions and expert annotations, they often fail to produce topologically correct predictions of tubular structures. This situation is exacerbated by the bifurcation versus crossing ambiguity which causes classification mistakes. This paper shows that including a topology preserving term in the loss function improves the continuity of the segmented vessels, although at the expense of artery-vein misclassification and overall lower overlap metrics. However, we show that by including an orientation score guided convolutional module, based on the anisotropic single sided cake wavelet, we reduce such misclassification and further increase the topology correctness of the results. We evaluate our model on public datasets with conveniently chosen metrics to assess both overlap and topology correctness, showing that our model is able to produce results on par with state-of-the-art from the point of view of overlap, while increasing topological accuracy.

We comment on the note "Low Q nuclear fusion in a volume heated mixed fuel reactor" by Ruhl and Korn in which hydrodynamic life-time considerations are included in estimates of ignition energy for uncompressed fusion fuel targets. For the case of DT fusion, the authors arrive at a required hot-spot energy of 1MJ. We point out that their Q = 1 estimate is not relevant for transition into a thermonuclear fusion regime, and that it is based on DT implanted in a boron-proton matrix without accounting for all consequences. Applying the proper corrections leads to an increase in the needed laser energy to initiate useful fusion power production, even for DT, into the GJ range. The aim of Marvel Fusion is the use of p-11B fusion reactions, which would require already according to Ruhl and Korn's optimistic estimate, a hot-spot energy of 1 GJ. If this were to be provided for by a mixed pBDT fuel or a staged explosion scheme (rather than by laser deposition), it would imply a high associated production rate of fast neutrons, and the need for tritium breeding, and push the energy produced by a single laser pulse into non-manageable dimensions.

The Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment - Follow On (GRACE-FO) satellite mission (2018-now) hosts the novel Laser Ranging Interferometer (LRI), a technology demonstrator for proving the feasibility of laser interferometry for inter-satellite ranging measurements. The GRACE-FO mission extends the valuable climate data record of changing mass distribution in the system Earth, which was started by the original GRACE mission (2002-2017). The mass distribution can be deduced from observing changes in the distance of two low-earth orbiters employing interferometry of electromagnetic waves in the K-Band for the conventional K-Band Ranging (KBR) and in near-infrared for the novel LRI. This paper identifies possible radiation-induced Single Event Upset (SEU) events in the LRI phase measurement. We simulate the phase data processing within the Laser Ranging Processor (LRP) and use a template-based fitting approach to determine the parameters of the SEU and subtract the events from the ranging data. Over four years of LRI data, 29 of such events were identified and characterized.

We comment on Marvel Fusion's proposal to use ultra-short, intensive laser pulses im**ing on nanostructured targets for the production of hot ions, with the ultimate aim of energy production through the p-11B fusion reaction. We show how a minimum requirement on the line density of the heated region arises also for such schemes aiming at ignition or just beam-energy amplification, which already for the D-T reaction are prohibitive if no pre-compression of the target is foreseen. We conclude that advanced ultra-short laser pulses can be of use for fusion applications only if the fusion reaction time can be brought down to sufficiently short values. This can happen only via strong pre-compression of the target, which appears difficult to reconcile with a nanostructured target and in particular with the fuel assembly geometries shown by the proponents.

The GRACE Follow-On satellites carry the very first inter-spacecraft Laser Ranging Interferometer (LRI). After more than four years in orbit, the LRI outperforms the sensitivity of the conventional Microwave Instrument (MWI). However, in the current data processing scheme, the LRI product still needs the MWI data to determine the unknown absolute laser frequency, representing the ruler for converting the raw phase measurements into a physical displacement in meters. In this paper, we derive formulas for precisely performing that conversion from the phase measurement into a range, accounting for a varying carrier frequency. Furthermore, the dominant errors due to knowledge uncertainty of the carrier frequency as well as uncorrected time biases are derived. In the second part, we address the dependency of the LRI on the MWI in the currently employed cross-calibration scheme and present three different models for the LRI laser frequency, two of which are largely independent of the MWI. Furthermore, we analyze the contribution of thermal variations on the scale factor estimates and the LRI-MWI residuals. A linear model called Thermal Coupling (TC) is derived that significantly reduces the differences between LRI and MWI to a level where the MWI observations limit the comparison.

The GRACE Follow-On satellite mission measures distance variations between the two satellites in order to derive monthly gravity field maps, indicating mass variability on Earth on a few 100 km scale due to hydrology, seismology, climatology and others. This mission hosts two ranging instruments, a conventional microwave system based on K(a)-band ranging (KBR) and a novel laser ranging instrument (LRI), both relying on interferometric phase readout. In this paper we show how the phase measurements can be converted into range data using a time-dependent carrier frequency (or wavelength) that takes potential intraday variability in the microwave or laser frequency into account. Moreover, we analyze the KBR-LRI residuals and discuss which error and noise contributors limit the residuals at high and low Fourier frequencies. It turns out that the agreement between KBR and LRI biased range observations can be slightly improved by considering intraday carrier frequency variations in the processing. Although the effect is probably small enough to have little relevance for gravity field determination at the current precision level, the analysis is of relevance for detailed instrument characterization and potentially for future more precise missions.

Magneto-transport measurements on gated high mobility heterostructures containing a 60 nm layer of tensile strained HgTe, a three-dimensional topological insulator, show well-developed Hall quantization from surface states both in the n- as well as in the p-type regime. While the n-type behavior is due to transport in the topological surface state of the material, we find from 8-orbital k.p calculations that the p-type transport results from massive Volkov-Pankratov states. Their formation prevents the Dirac point and thus the p-conducting topological surface state from being accessible in transport experiments. This interpretation is supported by low-field magneto-transport experiments demonstrating the coexistence of n-conducting topological surface states and p-conducting Volkov-Pankratov states at the relevant gate voltages.

Topic modeling is a state-of-the-art technique for analyzing text corpora. It uses a statistical model, most commonly Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), to discover abstract topics that occur in the document collection. However, the LDA-based topic modeling procedure is based on a randomly selected initial configuration as well as a number of parameter values than need to be chosen. This induces uncertainties on the topic modeling results, and visualization methods should convey these uncertainties during the analysis process. We propose a visual uncertainty-aware topic modeling analysis. We capture the uncertainty by computing topic modeling ensembles and propose measures for estimating topic modeling uncertainty from the ensemble. Then, we propose to enhance state-of-the-art topic modeling visualization methods to convey the uncertainty in the topic modeling process. We visualize the entire ensemble of topic modeling results at different levels for topic and document analysis. We experimentally investigate the effect of electron temperature on transport in the two-dimensional Dirac surface states of the three-dimensional topological insulator HgTe. We find that around the minimal conductivity point, where both electrons and holes are present, heating the carriers with a DC current results in a non-monotonic differential resistance of narrow channels. We show that the observed initial increase in resistance can be attributed to electron-hole scattering, while the decrease follows naturally from the change in Fermi energy of the charge carriers. Both effects are governed dominantly by a van Hove singularity in the bulk valence band. The results demonstrate the importance of interband electron-hole scattering in the transport properties of topological insulators.

Moreover, we show that the joint numerical range of a commuting operator tuple is in general not convex, which fills a gap in the literature. We also prove that the Asplund-Ptak numerical range (which is convex for pairs of operators) is, in general, not convex for tuples of operators.

Given a bounded linear operator $T$ on separable Hilbert space, we develop an approach allowing one to construct a matrix representation for $T$ having certain specified algebraic or asymptotic structure. We obtain matrix representations for $T$ with preassigned bands of the main diagonals, with an upper bound for all of the matrix elements, and with entrywise polynomial lower and upper bounds for these elements. In particular, we substantially generalize and complement our results on diagonals of operators from [46] and other related results. Moreover, we obtain a vast generalization of a theorem by Stout (1981), and (partially) answer his open question. Several of our results have no analogues in the literature.

The gravity field maps of the satellite gravimetry missions GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) and GRACE Follow-On are derived by means of precise orbit determination. The key observation is the biased inter-satellite range, which is measured primarily by a K-Band Ranging system (KBR) in GRACE and GRACE Follow-On. The GRACE Follow-On satellites are additionally equipped with a Laser Ranging Interferometer (LRI), which provides measurements with lower noise compared to the KBR. The biased range of KBR and LRI needs to be converted for gravity field recovery into an instantaneous range, i.e. the biased Euclidean distance between the satellites' center-of-mass at the same time. One contributor to the difference between measured and instantaneous range arises due to the non-zero travel time of electro-magnetic waves between the spacecraft. We revisit the calculation of the light time correction (LTC) from first principles considering general relativistic effects and state-of-the-art models of Earth's potential field. The novel analytical expressions for the LTC of KBR and LRI can circumvent numerical limitations of the classical approach. The dependency of the LTC on geopotential models and on the parameterization is studied, and afterwards the results are compared against the LTC provided in the official datasets of GRACE and GRACE Follow-On. It is shown that the new approach has a significantly lower noise, well below the instrument noise of current instruments, especially relevant for the LRI, and even if used with kinematic orbit products. This allows calculating the LTC accurate enough even for the next generation of gravimetric missions.

Rates of $B_s^0 \to D_s^{-} μ^+ ν_μ$ and $B_s^0 \to D_s^{*-} μ^+ ν_μ$ decays are analyzed using hadronic form-factor parametrizations derived either by Caprini, Lellouch and Neubert (CLN) or by Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL). The measured values of $|V_{cb}|$ are ${(41.4 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}}$ and ${(42.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}}$ in the CLN and BGL parametrization, respectively. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the external inputs used in the measurement. These results are in agreement with those obtained from decays of $B^+$ and $B^0$ mesons. They are the first determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ at a hadron-collider experiment and the first using $B_s^0$ meson decays.

The natural widths of the three lower mass states are consistent with zero, and the 90% confidence-level upper limits are determined to be ${Γ(Ω_b(6316)^-)<2.8}$ MeV, ${Γ(Ω_b(6330)^-)<3.1}$ MeV and ${Γ(Ω_b(6340)^-)<1.5}$ MeV. The natural width of the $Ω_b(6350)^-$ peak is $1.4^{+1.0}_{-0.8}\pm0.1$ MeV, which is 2.5$σ$ from zero and corresponds to an upper limit of 2.8 MeV. The peaks have local significances ranging from 3.6$σ$ to 7.2$σ$. After accounting for the look-elsewhere effect, the significances of the $Ω_b(6316)^-$ and $Ω_b(6330)^-$ peaks are reduced to 2.1$σ$ and 2.6$σ$ respectively, while the two higher mass peaks exceed 5$σ$. The observed peaks are consistent with expectations for excited $Ω_b^-$ resonances.

If $T$ is a Kreiss bounded operator on a Banach space, then $\|T^n\|=O(n)$. Forty years ago Shields conjectured that in Hilbert spaces, $\|T^n\| = O(\sqrt{n})$. A negative answer to this conjecture was given by Spijker, Tracogna and Welfert in 2003. We improve their result and show that this conjecture is not true even for uniformly Kreiss bounded operators. More precisely, for every $\varepsilon>0$ there exists a uniformly Kreiss bounded operator $T$ on a Hilbert space such that
$\|T^n\|\sim (n+1)^{1-\varepsilon}$ for all $n\in \Bbb N$. On the other hand, any Kreiss bounded operator on Hilbert spaces satisfies $\|T^n\|=O(\frac{n}{\sqrt{\log n}})$.
We also prove that the residual spectrum of a Kreiss bounded operator on a reflexive Banach space is contained in the open unit disc, extending known results for power bounded operators. As a consequence we obtain examples of mean ergodic Hilbert space operators which are not Kreiss bounded.

Ratios of isospin amplitudes in hadron decays are a useful probe of the interplay between weak and strong interactions, and allow searches for physics beyond the Standard Model. We present the first results on isospin amplitudes in $b$-baryon decays, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at center of mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The isospin amplitude ratio $|A_1(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΣ^0)/A_0(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)|$, where the subscript on $A$ indicates the final-state isospin, is measured to be less than 1/21.8 at 95\% confidence level. The Cabibbo suppressed $Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΛ$ decay is observed for the first time, allowing for the measurement $|A_0(Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)/A_{1/2}(Ξ_b^0\to J/ψΞ^0)| =0.37 \pm 0.06\pm 0.02$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

A four-body amplitude analysis of the $B^- \to D^{*+} π^- π^-$ decay is performed, where fractions and relative phases of the various resonances contributing to the decay are measured. Several quasi-model-independent analyses are performed aimed at searching for the presence of new states and establishing the quantum numbers of previously observed charmed meson resonances. In particular the resonance parameters and quantum numbers are determined for the $D_1(2420)$, $D_1(2430)$, $D_0(2550)$, $D^*_1(2600)$, $D_2(2740)$ and $D^*_3(2750)$ states. The mixing between the $D_1(2420)$ and $D_1(2430)$ resonances is studied and the mixing parameters are measured. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 $fb^{-1}$, collected in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector.

The cross-section for prompt production of $η_c(1S)$ mesons relative to that of the $J/ψ$ meson is measured using the ${p\bar{p}}$ decay mode and is found to be ${σ_{η_c(1S)}/σ_{J/ψ} = 1.69 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.18}$. The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the ${J/ψ\to p \bar{p}}$ and ${η_c\to p \bar{p}}$ decays. The prompt $η_c(1S)$ production cross-section is determined to be ${σ_{η_c(1S)} = 1.26 \pm 0.11\pm 0.08 \pm 0.14 \,μb}$, where the last uncertainty includes that on the ${J/ψ}$ meson cross-section. The ratio of the branching fractions of $b$-hadron decays to the $η_c(1S)$ and ${J/ψ}$ states is measured to be ${\mathcal{B}_{b\toη_c X}/\mathcal{B}_{b\to J/ψX} = 0.48 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.05}$, where the last uncertainty is due to those on the branching fractions of the ${J/ψ\to p \bar{p}}$ and ${η_c\to p \bar{p}}$ decays. The difference between the ${J/ψ}$ and $η_c(1S)$ masses is also determined to be ${113.0 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\text{ MeV}}$, which is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date.

The $D^0$ mesons are required to originate from semileptonic decays of $b$ hadrons, such that the charge of the muon identifies the flavor of the neutral $D$ meson at production. The asymmetries in the effective decay widths of $D^0$ and $\overline{D}^0$ mesons are determined to be $A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.3 \pm 3.6 \pm 0.5 )\times 10^{-4}$ and $A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.2 \pm 7.0 \pm 0.8)\times 10^{-4}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The results are consistent with $CP$ symmetry and, when combined with previous LHCb results, yield $A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.4 \pm 2.3 \pm 0.6 )\times 10^{-4}$ and $A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.5 \pm 4.3 \pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$.

The fragmentation-fraction ratio $f_\mathrm{s} / f_u$ is observed to depend on the $\mathrm{B}$-meson transverse momentum with a significance of $6.0\,σ$. This dependency is driven by the 13$\text{ TeV}$ sample ($8.7\,σ$) while the results for the other collision energies are not significant when considered separately. Furthermore the results show a $4.8\,σ$ evidence for an increase of $f_\mathrm{s} / f_u$ as a function of collision energy.

These searches look for $A'\!\to\!μ^+μ^-$ decays using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5/fb collected with the LHCb detector. Neither search finds evidence for a signal, and 90% confidence-level exclusion limits are placed on the $γ$-$A'$ kinetic-mixing strength. The prompt-like $A'$ search explores the mass region from near the dimuon threshold up to 70 GeV, and places the most stringent constraints to date on dark photons with $214 < m(A') \lesssim 740$ MeV and $10.6 < m(A') \lesssim 30$ GeV. The search for long-lived $A'\!\to\!μ^+μ^-$ decays places world-leading constraints on low-mass dark photons with lifetimes $\mathcal{O}(1)$ ps.

Leptospiroris, the infectious disease caused by the spirochete bacteria Leptospira interrogans, constitutes an important public health problem all over the world. In Argentina, some regions present climate and geographic characteristics that favors the habitat of the bacteria Leptospira, whose survival strongly depends on climatic factors. For this reason, regional public health systems should include, as a main factor, the incidence of the disease in order to improve the prediction of potential outbreaks, hel** to stop or delay the virus transmission. The classic methods used to perform this kind of predictions are based in autoregressive time series tools which, as it is well known, perform poorly when the data do not meet their requirements. Recently, several nonparametric methods have been introduced to deal with those problems. In this work, we compare a semiparametric method, called Semi-Functional Partial Linear Regression (SFPLR) with the classic ARIMA and a new alternative ARIMAX, in order to select the best predictive tool for the incidence of leptospirosis in the Argentinian Litoral region. In particular, SFPLR and ARIMAX are methods that allow the use of (hydrometeorological) covariables which could improve the prediction of outbreaks of leptospirosis.

The results of an amplitude analysis of the charmless three-body decay $B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^-$, in which $C\!P$-violation effects are taken into account, are reported. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3 \text{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. The most challenging aspect of the analysis is the description of the behaviour of the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave contribution, which is achieved by using three complementary approaches based on the isobar model, the K-matrix formalism, and a quasi-model-independent procedure. Additional resonant contributions for all three methods are described using a common isobar model, and include the $ρ(770)^0$, $ω(782)$ and $ρ(1450)^0$ resonances in the $π^+π^-$ P-wave, the $f_2(1270)$ resonance in the $π^+π^-$ D-wave, and the $ρ_3(1690)^0$ resonance in the $π^+π^-$ F-wave. Significant $C\!P$-violation effects are observed in both S- and D-waves, as well as in the interference between the S- and P-waves. The results from all three approaches agree and provide new insight into the dynamics and the origin of $C\!P$-violation effects in $B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^-$ decays.

Observations are reported of different sources of $CP$ violation from an amplitude analysis of $B^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^-$ decays, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3 \; {\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. A large $CP$ asymmetry is observed in the decay amplitude involving the tensor $f_2(1270)$ resonance, and in addition significant $CP$ violation is found in the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave at low invariant mass. The presence of $CP$ violation related to interference between the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave and the P-wave $B^+ \to ρ(770)^0 π^+$ amplitude is also established; this causes large local asymmetries but cancels when integrated over the phase space of the decay. The results provide both qualitative and quantitative new insights into $CP$-violation effects in hadronic $B$ decays.

The single electron track-reconstruction efficiency is calibrated using a sample corresponding to $1.3~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$of $pp$ collision data recorded with the LHCb detector in 2017. This measurement exploits $B^+\to J/ψ(e^+e^-)K^+$ decays, where one of the electrons is fully reconstructed and paired with the kaon, while the other electron is reconstructed using only the information of the vertex detector. Despite this partial reconstruction, kinematic and geometric constraints allow the $B^+$-meson mass to be reconstructed and the signal to be well separated from backgrounds. This in turn allows the electron reconstruction efficiency to be measured by matching the partial track segment found in the vertex detector to tracks found by LHCb's regular reconstruction algorithms. The agreement between data and simulation is evaluated, and corrections are derived for simulated electrons in bins of kinematics. These correction factors allow LHCb to measure branching fractions involving single electrons with a systematic uncertainty below $1\%$.
