Contemporary face recognition systems use feature templates extracted from face images to identify persons. To enhance privacy, face template protection techniques are widely employed to conceal sensitive identity and appearance information stored in the template. This paper identifies an emerging privacy attack form utilizing diffusion models that could nullify prior protection, referred to as inversion attacks. The attack can synthesize high-quality, identity-preserving face images from templates, revealing persons' appearance. Based on studies of the diffusion model's generative capability, this paper proposes a defense to deteriorate the attack, by rotating templates to a noise-like distribution. This is achieved efficiently by spherically and linearly interpolating templates, or slerp, on their located hypersphere. This paper further proposes to group-wisely divide and drop out templates' feature dimensions, to enhance the irreversibility of rotated templates. The division of groups and dropouts within each group are learned in a recognition-favored way. The proposed techniques are concretized as a novel face template protection technique, SlerpFace. Extensive experiments show that SlerpFace provides satisfactory recognition accuracy and comprehensive privacy protection against inversion and other attack forms, superior to prior arts.

The interplay between substrates and superconducting thin films has attracted increasing attention. Here, we report an in-depth investigation on superconducting properties of the epitaxial TiN thin films grown on two different substrates by dc reactive magnetron sputtering. The TiN films grown on (0001) sapphire exhibit (111) crystal orientation, while that grown on (100) Si substrates exhibit (100) orientation. Moreover, the samples grown on Si reveal a relatively lower level of disorder, accompanied by the higher critical transition temperature $T_c$ and smaller magnitude of upper critical field slope near $T_c$. Remarkably, we uncovered a rather high value of superconducting gap (with $Δ_0/k_BT_c$ = 3.05) in TiN film on Si indicating a very strong coupling superconductivity, in sharp contrast to the case using sapphires as the substrate which reveals a weak-coupling feature. Further analysis shows that the weakened electronic screening effect due to the high level of disorder and the suppressed electronic density of states may be the underlying reasons for the occurrence of weak coupling superconductivity in the TiN films based on sapphire substrate.

Molecular ions that are generated by chemical reactions with trapped atomic ions can serve as an accessible testbed for develo** molecular quantum technologies. On the other hand, they are also a hindrance to scaling up quantum computers based on atomic ions as unavoidable reactions with background gas destroy the information carriers. Here, we investigate the single- and two-photon dissociation processes of single $\text{CaOH}^+$ molecular ions co-trapped in $\text{Ca}^+$ ion crystals using a femtosecond laser system. We report the photodissociation cross section spectra of $\text{CaOH}^+$ for single-photon processes at $λ=$245 - 275$\,$nm and for two-photon processes at $λ=$500 - 540$\,$nm. Measurements are interpreted with quantum-chemical calculations, which predict the photodissociation threshold for $\text{CaOH}^+\to \text{Ca}^++\text{OH}$ at 265$\,$nm. This result can serve as a basis for dissociation-based spectroscopy for studying the internal structure of $\text{CaOH}^+$. The result also gives a prescription for recycling $\text{Ca}^+$ ions in large-scale trapped $\text{Ca}^+$ quantum experiments from undesired $\text{CaOH}^+$ ions formed in the presence of background water vapor.

Exploring new unconventional superconductors is of great value for both fundamental research and practical applications. It is a long-term challenge to develop and study more hole-doped superconductors in 1111 system of iron-based superconductors. However, fifteen years after the discovery of iron-based superconductors, it has become increasingly difficult to discover new members in this system by conventional means. Here we report the discovery of superconductivity with the critical transition temperature up to 30.7 K in the parent compound CaFeAsF by an annealing treatment in air atmosphere. The superconducting behaviors are verified in both the single-crystalline and polycrystalline samples by the resistance and magnetization measurements. The analysis by combining the depth-resolved time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements show that the introduction of oxygen elements and the consequent changing in Fe valence by the annealing treatment may lead to the hole-type do**, which is the origin for the occurrence of superconductivity. Our results provide a new route to induce hole-doped superconductivity in Fe-based superconductors.

The coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism is a long-standing issue in superconductivity due to the antagonistic nature of these two ordered states. Experimentally identifying and characterizing novel heterointerface superconductors that coexist with magnetism presents significant challenges. Here, we report the experimental observation of two-dimensional long-range ferromagnetic order in the KTaO$_3$ heterointerface superconductor, showing the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism. Remarkably, our direct current superconducting quantum interference device measurements reveal an in-plane magnetization hysteresis loop persisting above room temperature. Moreover, the first-principles calculations and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements provide decisive insights into the origin of the observed robust ferromagnetism, attributing it to oxygen vacancies that localize electrons in nearby Ta 5$d$ states. Our findings not only suggest KTaO$_3$ heterointerfaces as time-reversal symmetry breaking superconductors, but also inject fresh momentum into the exploration of the intricate interplay between superconductivity and magnetism, enhanced by the strong spin-orbit coupling inherent to the heavy Ta in 5$d$ orbitals of KTaO$_3$ heterointerfaces.

The quantum spin Hall (QSH) effect has attracted extensive research interest because of the potential applications in spintronics and quantum computing, which is attributable to two conducting edge channels with opposite spin polarization and the quantized electronic conductance of 2e2/h. Recently, 2M-WS2, a new stable phase of transition metal dichalcogenides with a 2M structure showing an identical layer configuration to that of the monolayer 1T' TMDs, was suggested to be a QSH insulator as well as a superconductor with critical transition temperature around 8 K. Here, high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin-resolved ARPES are applied to investigate the electronic and spin structure of the topological surface states (TSS) in the superconducting 2M-WS2. The TSS exhibits characteristic spin-momentum-locking behavior, suggesting the existence of long-sought nontrivial Z2 topological states therein. We expect that 2M-WS2 with co-existing superconductivity and TSS might host the promising Majorana bound states.

Quantum Griffiths singularity (QGS), which is closely correlated with the quenched disorder, is characterized by the divergence of the dynamical critical exponent and the presence of activated scaling behavior. Typically such a quantum phenomenon is rather rare and only observed in extremely low temperatures. Here we report the experimental observation of a robust QGS in nitride thin films, NbN, which survives in a rather high temperature range. The electrical transport propertied were measured under the magnetic field up to 12 T. The field induced superconductor-metal transitions were observed with the continuously changed transition points with the decrease of temperature. The dynamical critical exponent based on the conventional power-law scaling reveals a divergent trend when approaching the the low temperature limit. Moreover, the temperature and field dependence of sheet resistance can be described by the activated scaling analysis in the temperature region up to 1.6 K $\leq T \leq$ 4.0 K. We argue that the robustness of QGS in the present system originates from the Pauli paramagnetic effect due to the strong coupling between the magnetic field and the spin degree of freedom.

Superconductivity and the normal-state properties of NbN films can be tuned in a wide range, supplying a suitable platform to investigate the systematical evolution of the superconducting performances. Herein, we report the upper critical field of NbN films in both the vertical ($B\perp$ film) and parallel ($B\parallel$ film) orientations over a wide temperature range. Eight samples with the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ ranging from 2.5 K to 9.8 K are studied. Meanwhile, the normal-state resistivity is tuned by more than six times by changing the conditions of the film growth. It is found that the magnitudes of the upper critical field in both field directions ($B_{c2}^{\perp}$ and $B_{c2}^{\parallel}$) exceed the paramagnetic limiting field $B_p$. The temperature dependent $B_{c2}^{\perp}$ can be described by the extended Werthamer--Helfand--Hohenberg (WHH) model considering the Pauli spin paramagnetism. Meanwhile, the $B_{c2}^{\parallel}$-$T$ data shows the feature of two-dimensional superconductivity in the temperature range near $T_c$. The evolution of the obtained Maki parameter with other parameters, such as the slope of the upper critical field near $T_c$ and the normal-state resistivity, are discussed to reveal the characteristics of the Pauli paramagnetic effect in this system.

The emergence of the quantum metallic state marked by a saturating finite electrical resistance in the zero-temperature limit in a variety of two-dimensional superconductors injects an exciting momentum to the realm of unconventional superconductivity. Despite much research efforts over last few decades, there is not yet a general consensus on the nature of this unexpected quantum metal. Here, we report the observation of a unique quantum metallic state within the hallmark of Bose-metal characterized by a saturating resistance and a simultaneously vanishing Hall resistance in the titanium sesquioxide heterointerface superconductor Ti$_2$O$_3$/GaN. Remarkably, the quantum bosonic metallic state tuned by a magnetic field in the vicinity of the two-dimensional superconductivity-metal transition persists in the normal phase, suggesting the existence of composite bosons, formed by electron Cooper pairs, even in the normal phase. Our findings indicate the existence of preformed electron Cooper pairs in the normal phase of heterointerface superconductors, and shed new light on the pairing mechanism underlying unconventional superconductivity.

Both cuprates and iron-based superconductors demonstrate nematicity, defined as the spontaneous breaking of rotational symmetry in electron systems. The nematic state can play a role in the high-transition-temperature superconductivity of these compounds. However, the microscopic mechanism responsible for the transport anisotropy in iron-based compounds remains debatable. Here, we investigate the electronic anisotropy of CaFeAsF by measuring its interlayer resistivity under magnetic fields with varying field directions. Counterintuitively, the interlayer resistivity was larger in the longitudinal configuration ($B \parallel I \parallel c$) than in the transverse one ($B \perp I \parallel c$). The interlayer resistivity exhibited a so-called coherence peak under in-plane fields and was highly anisotropic with respect to the in-plane field direction. At $T$ = 4 K and $B$ = 14 T, the magnetoresistance $Δρ/ρ_0$ was seven times larger in the $B \parallel b_o$ than in the $B \parallel a_o$ configuration. Our theoretical calculations of the conductivity based on the first-principles electronic band structure qualitatively reproduced the above observations but underestimated the magnitudes of the observed features. The proposed methodology can be a powerful tool for probing the nematic electronic state in various materials.

Watch-time prediction remains to be a key factor in reinforcing user engagement via video recommendations. It has become increasingly important given the ever-growing popularity of online videos. However, prediction of watch time not only depends on the match between the user and the video but is often mislead by the duration of the video itself. With the goal of improving watch time, recommendation is always biased towards videos with long duration. Models trained on this imbalanced data face the risk of bias amplification, which misguides platforms to over-recommend videos with long duration but overlook the underlying user interests.
This paper presents the first work to study duration bias in watch-time prediction for video recommendation. We employ a causal graph illuminating that duration is a confounding factor that concurrently affects video exposure and watch-time prediction -- the first effect on video causes the bias issue and should be eliminated, while the second effect on watch time originates from video intrinsic characteristics and should be preserved. To remove the undesired bias but leverage the natural effect, we propose a Duration Deconfounded Quantile-based (D2Q) watch-time prediction framework, which allows for scalability to perform on industry production systems. Through extensive offline evaluation and live experiments, we showcase the effectiveness of this duration-deconfounding framework by significantly outperforming the state-of-the-art baselines. We have fully launched our approach on Kuaishou App, which has substantially improved real-time video consumption due to more accurate watch-time predictions.

We observe the actuation of silicon nitride (SiN) nanomechanical resonators by electrical excitation of metal-dielectric-semiconductor (MDS) capacitors on their supporting silicon substrate. We develop first-principle models explaining this actuation mechanism by acoustic waves resulting from voltage-dependent electrostatic forces in the MDS capacitors. Models are developed for actuation in the charge accumulation (Ni-pSi) and charge depletion (Al-pSi) regimes. Experimental observations confirm our prediction that charge accumulation (Ni-pSi) is more efficient at actuation than charge depletion. For a 2 V actuation signal, Ni-pSi capacitors achieve 10 nm actuation amplitude in square (1.7 $\times$ 1.7 mm) low-stress (~100 MPa) SiN membrane resonators. In this case, electrical power dissipation in the chip is on the order of 0.1 $μ$W, and spurious heating is less than 1 mK. Both these values could be further reduced by do** the substrate to minimize resistive dissipation. The actuation method is remarkably simple and only requires attachment of wires to the chip with vacuum-compatible nickel paste, with no extra photolithography step. All the chips presented in this work are fabricated in-house, and a detailed fabrication procedure is provided.

Silicon nitride (SiN) drumhead resonators offer a promising platform for thermal sensing due to their high mechanical quality factor and the high temperature sensitivity of their resonance frequency. As such, gaining an understanding of heat transport in SiN resonators as well as their sensing noise limitations is of interest, both of which are goals of the present work. We first present new experimental results on radiative heat transport in SiN membrane, which we use for benchmarking two recently proposed theoretical models. We measure the characteristic thermal response time of square SiN membranes with a thickness of 90 $\pm$ 1.7 nm and side lengths from 1.5 to 12 mm. A clear transition between radiation and conduction dominated heat transport is measured, in close correspondence with theory. In the second portion of this work, we use our experimentally validated heat transport model to provide a closed-form expression for thermal fluctuation-induced frequency noise in SiN membrane resonators. We find that, for large area SiN membranes, thermal fluctuations can be greater than thermomechanical contributions to frequency noise. For the specific case of thermal radiation sensing applications, we also derive the noise equivalent power resulting from thermal fluctuation-induced frequency noise, and we show in which conditions it reduces to the classical detectivity limit of thermal radiation sensors. Our work therefore provides a path towards achieving thermal radiation sensors operating at the never attained fundamental detectivity limit of bolometric sensing. We also identify questions that remain when attempting to push the limits of radiation sensing, in particular, the effect of thermal fluctuation noise in closed-loop frequency tracking schemes remains to be clarified.

We measured the longitudinal and Hall resistivities in CaFeAsF with the electrical current in the $ab$ plane in magnetic fields up to 45 T applied along the $c$ axis and obtained the corresponding conductivities via tensor inversion. We found that both the longitudinal and Hall conductivities approached zero above $\sim$40 T as the temperature was lowered to 0.4 K. Our analysis indicates that the Landau-level filling factor is $ν$ = 2 for both electrons and holes at these high field strengths, resulting in a total filling factor $ν$ = $ν_{hole} - ν_{electron}$ = 0. We therefore argue that the $ν$ = 0 quantum Hall state emerges under these conditions.

Near-field radiative heat transfer (NFHT) research currently suffers from an imbalance between numerous theoretical studies, as opposed to experimental reports that remain, in proportion, relatively scarce. Existing experimental platforms all rely on unique custom-built devices on which it is difficult to integrate new materials and structures for studying the breadth of theoretically proposed phenomena. Here we show high-resolution NFHT measurements using, as our sensing element, silicon nitride (SiN) freestanding nanomembranes$-$a widely available platform routinely used in materials and cavity optomechanics research. We measure NFHT by tracking the high mechanical quality (Q) factor ($>2\times10^6$) resonance of a membrane placed in the near-field of a hemispherical hot object. We find that high Q-factor enables a temperature resolution ($1.2\times10^{-6} \ \mathrm{K}$) that is unparalleled in previous NFHT experiments. Results are in good agreement with a custom-built model combining heat transport in nanomembranes and the effect of non-uniform stress/temperature on the resonator eigenmodes.

Experimentally exploring and identifying new fascinating interface superconductors with a high transition temperature ($T_c$) is challenging. Here, we report an experimental observation of intriguing two-dimensional superconductivity with a $T_c$ up to 3.8 K at the interface between Mott insulator Ti$_2$O$_3$ and polar semiconductor GaN. Guo, Alexandradinata, \textit{et al.} have recently proposed that quantum-oscillation frequencies from Dirac/Weyl fermions exhibit a negative shift proportional to $T^2$ because of the energy dependence of the effective mass peculiar to a linear band-dispersion. We have measured Shubnikov--de Haas oscillation in CaFeAsF up to $T$ = 9 K. The frequency of the $α$ Dirac electron exhibits a negative shift with increasing $T$, while that of the $β$ Schrödinger hole does not. For $T \geqslant 5$ K where $β$ is negligible, the $α$-frequency shift is proportional to $T^2$ and its rate agrees with the theoretical prediction within experimental accuracy. At lower temperatures, the shifts of $α$ and $β$ deviate from theoretical expectations, which we ascribe to the inaccuracy in the frequency determination due to unfavorable interference between frequencies. Our results confirm that the topological frequency shift can be utilized to identify Dirac/Weyl fermions when quantum-oscillation frequencies can be determined accurately.

Recently V-based Kagome metal attracted intense attention due to the emergence of superconductivity in the low temperature. Here we report the fabrication and physical investigations of the high quality single-crystalline thin films of the Kagome metal KV$_3$Sb$_5$. For the sample with the thickness of about 15 nm, the temperature dependent resistance reveals a Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type behavior, indicating the presence of two-dimensional superconductivity. Compared with the bulk sample, the onset transition temperature $T^{onset}_{c}$ and the out-of-plane upper critical field $H_{c2}$ are enhanced by 15\% and more than 10 times respectively. Moreover, the zero-resistance state is destroyed by a magnetic field as low as 50 Oe. Meanwhile, the temperature-independent resistance is observed in a wide field region, which is the hallmark of quantum metallic state. Our results provide evidences for the existence of unconventional superconductivity in this material.

A magnetic field is generally considered to be incompatible with superconductivity as it tends to spin-polarize electrons and breaks apart the opposite-spin singlet superconducting Cooper pairs. Here, an experimental phenomenon is observed that an intriguing reemergent superconductivity evolves from a conventional superconductivity undergoing a hump-like intermediate phase with a finite electric resistance in the van der Waals heterointerface of layered NbSe2 and CrCl3 flakes. This phenomenon merely occurred when the applied magnetic field is parallel to the sample plane and perpendicular to the electric current direction as compared to the reference sample of a NbSe2 thin flake. The strong anisotropy of the reemergent superconducting phase is pointed to the nature of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state driven by the strong interfacial spin-orbit coupling between NbSe2 and CrCl3 layers. The theoretical picture of FFLO state nodes induced by Josephson vortices collectively pinning is presented for well understanding the experimental observation of the reemergent superconductivity. This finding sheds light on an opportunity to search for the exotic FFLO state in the van der Waals heterostructures with strong interfacial spin-orbit coupling.

We present a systematic study of electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, magneto-optical imaging, magnetization, and STEM analyses of KCa${_2}$Fe${_4}$As${_4}$F${_2}$ single crystals. Sharp diamagnetic transition and magneto-optical imaging reveal homogeneity of single crystal and prominent Bean-like penetrations of vortices. Large anisotropy of electrical resistivity, with ${ρ_c / ρ_{ab}}$ > 100, and semiconductor-like ${ρ_c}$ suggest that the electronic state is quasi two-dimensional. Hall effect measurements indicate that KCa${_2}$Fe${_4}$As${_4}$F${_2}$ is a multiband system with holes as main carriers. Magnetization measurements reveal significantly larger J$_c$ compared with that in other iron-based superconductors with different values of J$_c$ depending on the direction of magnetic field. Origin of these J$_c$ characteristics is discussed based on microstructural observations using STEM. In addition, further enhancement of J$_c$ in KCa${_2}$Fe${_4}$As${_4}$F${_2}$ for future application is demonstrated in terms of heavy-ion irradiation.

Two-dimensional (2D) superconductors supply important platforms for exploring new quantum physics and high-$T_c$ superconductivity. The intrinsic superconducting properties in the 2D iron-arsenic superconductors are still unknown owing to the difficulties in the preparation of ultrathin samples. Here we report the fabrication and physical investigations of the high quality single-crystalline ultrathin films of the iron-arsenic superconductor KCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$. For the sample with the thickness of 2.6$\sim$5 nm (1$\sim$2 unit cells), a sharp superconducting transition at around 30 K (onset point) is observed. Compare with the bulk material, the ultrathin sample reveals a relatively lower $T_c$, wider transition width, and broader flux liquid region under the in-plane field. Moreover, the angle dependent upper critical field follows the Tinkham model, demonstrating the two-dimensional superconductivity in ultrathin KCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$.

We report resistance and elastoresistance measurements on (Ba$_{0.5}$K$_{0.5}$)Fe$_2$As$_2$, CaKFe$_4$As$_4$, and KCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$. The Fe-site symmetry is $D_{2d}$ in the first compound but $C_{2v}$ in the latter two, which lifts the degeneracy of the Fe $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals. The temperature dependence of the resistance and elastoresistance is similar between the three compounds. Especially, the [110] elastoresistance is enhanced with decreasing temperature irrespective of the Fe-site symmetry. This appears to be in conflict with recent Raman scattering studies on CaKFe$_4$As$_4$, which suggest the absence of nematic fluctuations. We consider possible ways of reconciliation and suggest that the present result is important in elucidating the origin of in-plane resistivity anisotropy in iron-based superconductors.

The temperature dependence of the upper critical field ($H_{c2}$) in RbCr$% _{3}$As$_{3}$ single crystals ($T_{c}\approx $ 7.3 K) has been determined by means of magnetoresistance measurements with temperature down to 0.35 K in static magnetic fields up to 38 T. The magnetic field was applied both for directions parallel ($H\parallel c $, $H_{c2}^{\parallel c}$) and perpendicular ($H\perp c$, $H_{c2}^{\perp c}$) to the Cr chains. The curves $H_{c2}^{\parallel c}(T)$ and $H_{c2}^{\perp c}(T)$ cross at $\sim $ 5.5 K. As a result, the anisotropy parameter $γ(T)=H_{c2}^{\perp c}/H_{c2}^{\parallel c}(T)$ increases from 0.5 near $T_{c}$ to 1.6 at low temperature. Fitting with the Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg (WHH) model yields zero-temperature critical fields of $μ_0H_{c2}^{\parallel c}(0)\approx $ 27.2 T and $μ_0H_{c2}^{\perp c}(0)\approx $ 43.4 T, both exceeding the BCS weak-coupling Pauli limit $μ_0H_{p}=1.84T_{c}=13.4$ T. The results indicate that the paramagnetic pair breaking effect is strong for $H \parallel c$ but absent for $H \perp c$, which was further confirmed by the angle dependent magnetoresistance and $H_{c2}$ measurements.

There is a large body of literature linking anatomic and geometric characteristics of kidney tumors to perioperative and oncologic outcomes. Semantic segmentation of these tumors and their host kidneys is a promising tool for quantitatively characterizing these lesions, but its adoption is limited due to the manual effort required to produce high-quality 3D segmentations of these structures. Recently, methods based on deep learning have shown excellent results in automatic 3D segmentation, but they require large datasets for training, and there remains little consensus on which methods perform best. The 2019 Kidney and Kidney Tumor Segmentation challenge (KiTS19) was a competition held in conjunction with the 2019 International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) which sought to address these issues and stimulate progress on this automatic segmentation problem. A training set of 210 cross sectional CT images with kidney tumors was publicly released with corresponding semantic segmentation masks. 106 teams from five continents used this data to develop automated systems to predict the true segmentation masks on a test set of 90 CT images for which the corresponding ground truth segmentations were kept private. These predictions were scored and ranked according to their average So rensen-Dice coefficient between the kidney and tumor across all 90 cases. The winning team achieved a Dice of 0.974 for kidney and 0.851 for tumor, approaching the inter-annotator performance on kidney (0.983) but falling short on tumor (0.923). This challenge has now entered an "open leaderboard" phase where it serves as a challenging benchmark in 3D semantic segmentation.

The emergence of unconventional superconductivity is generally considered to be related to spin fluctuations. Unveiling the intriguing behaviors of spin fluctuations in parent compounds with layered transition-metal ions may shed light on the search for exotic unconventional superconductors. Here, based on the framework of the first-principles calculations, we theoretically propose that LaCoSb$_2$ is a weak antiferromagnetic layered metal with an in-plane ferromagnetic moment of 0.88 $μ_B$ at the Co sites, as a candidate parent compound of the cobalt-based superconductors. Importantly, this theoretical finding is experimentally supported by our magnetization measurements on polycrystalline samples of LaCo$_{0.78}$Sb$_2$. Following the symmetry analysis, we suggest a possible $p$-wave superconductivity hosted in doped LaCoSb$_2$ emerging at the verge of ferromagnetic spin fluctuations, which implies potential applications in topological quantum computing in future.

A steep increase in the in-plane upper critical field with cooling has been observed near the superconducting transition temperature, $T_c$, in KCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$ single crystals. Herein, we report a high-field investigation on upper critical field of this material over a wide temperature range, and both out-of-plane ($H\|c$, $H_{c2}^{c}$) and in-plane ($H\|ab$, $H_{c2}^{ab}$) directions have been measured. A sublinear temperature-dependent behavior is observed for the out-of-plane $H_{c2}^{c}$, whereas strong convex curvature with cooling is observed for the in-plane $H_{c2}^{ab}$. Such behaviors could not be described by the conventional Werthamer--Helfand--Hohenberg (WHH) model. The data analysis based on the WHH model by considering the spin aspects reveals a large Maki parameter $α=9$, indicating that the in-plane upper critical field is affected by a very strong Pauli paramagnetic effect.

Recently, Bi2O2Se is discovered as a promising two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor for next generation electronics, due to its moderate bandgap size, high electron mobility and pronounced ambient stability. Meanwhile, it has been predicted that high quality Bi2O2Se-related heterostructures may possess exotic physical phenomena, such as piezoelectricity and topological superconductivity. Herein, we report the first successful heteroepitaxial growth of Bi2O2Se films on SrTiO3 substrates via pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. Films obtained under optimal conditions show an epitaxial growth with the c axis perpendicular to the film surface and the a and b axes parallel to the substrate. The growth mode transition to three dimensional (3D) island from quasi-2D layer of the heteroepitaxial Bi2O2Se films on SrTiO3 (001) substrates is observed as prolonging deposition time of films. The maximum value of electron mobility reaches 160 cm2/V-1s-1 at room temperature in a 70nm-thick film. The thickness dependent mobility provides evidence that interface-scattering is likely to be the limiting factor for the relatively low electron mobility at low temperature, implying that the interface engineering as an effective method to tune the low temperature electron mobility. Our work suggests the epitaxial Bi2O2Se films grown by PLD are promising for both fundamental study and practical applications.

Although superconductivity in the vicinity of antiferromagnetic (AFM) instability has been extensively explored in the last three decades or so, superconductivity in compounds with a background of ferromagnetic (FM) spin fluctuations is still rare. We report 75As nuclear quadrupole resonance measurements on the A2Cr3As3 family, which is the first group of Cr-based superconductors at ambient pressure, with A being alkali elements. From the temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T1), we find that by changing A in the order of A=Na, Na0.75K0.25, K, and Rb, the system is tuned to approach a FM quantum critical point (QCP). This may be ascribed to the Cr2-As2-Cr2 bond angle that decreases towards 90 degrees, which enhances the FM interaction via the Cr2-As2-Cr2 path. Upon moving away from the QCP, the superconducting transition temperature Tsc increases progressively up to 8.0 K in Na2Cr3As3, which is in sharp contrast to the AFM case where Tsc usually shows a maximum around a QCP. The 1/T1 decreases rapidly below Tsc with no Hebel-Slichter peak, and ubiquitously follows a T5 variation below a characteristic temperature T*=0.6 Tsc, which indicates the existence of point nodes in the superconducting gap function commonly in the family. These results suggest that the A2Cr3As3 family is a possible solid-state analog of superfluid 3He.

A clear SH jump with the height of $ΔC/T|_{T_c}$ = 130 mJ/mol K$^2$ is observed at the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$. It is found that the electronic SH coefficient $Δγ(H)$ quickly increases when the field is in the low-field region below 3 T and then considerably slows down the increase with a further increase in the field, which indicates a rather strong anisotropy or multi-gap feature with a small minimum in the superconducting gap(s). The temperature-dependent SH data indicates the presence of the $T^2$ term, which supplies further information and supports the picture with a line-nodal gap structure. Moreover, the onset point of the SH transition remains almost unchanged under the field as high as 9 T, which is similar to that observed in cuprates, and placed this system in the middle between the BCS limit and the Bose-Einstein condensation.

Superconductivity with the critical transition T_c = 33.5 K was confirmed by both the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Intersteing, topological insulator state, defined by topological invariant Z2, was also discovered with a single Dirac cone on the surface, which is different from all topological states reported in TMDs. Further, the electronic structure was found to have a strong anisotropy by Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations and first-principles calculations. Our findings reveal that monoclinic WS2 might be a new topological superconductivity candidate with a strong anisotropy.

We have studied the half-Heusler compound TbPdBi through resistivity, magnetization, Hall effect and heat capacity measurements. A semimetal behavior is observed in its normal state transport properties, which is characterized by a large negative magnetoresistance below 100 K. Notably, we find the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in this compound. The superconducting transition appears at 1.7 K, while the antiferromagnetic phase transition takes place at 5.5 K. The upper critical field $H_{c2}$ shows an unusual linear temperature dependence, implying unconventional superconductivity. Moreover, when the superconductivity is suppressed by magnetic field, its resistivity shows plateau behavior, a signature often seen in topological insulators/semimetals. These findings establish TbPdBi as a platform for study of the interplay between superconductivity, magnetism and non-trivial band topology.

Superconductivity in iron pnictides is unconventional and pairing may be mediated by magnetic fluctuations in the Fe-sublattice. Pressure is a clean method to explore superconductivity in iron based superconductors by tuning the ground state continuously without introducing disorder. Here we present a systematic high pressure transport study in Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_{x}$)$_2$As$_2$ single crystals with $x=$ 0.057, which is near the antiferromagnetic instability. Resistivity $ρ=ρ_0+AT^{n}$ was studied under applied pressure up to 7.90 GPa. The parameter $n$ approaches a minimum value of $n\approx 1$ at a critical pressure $P_c =$ 3.65 GPa. Near $P_c$, the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ reaches a maximum value of 25.8 K. In addition, the superconducting diamagnetism at 2 K shows a sudden change around the same critical pressure. These results may be associated with a possible quantum critical point hidden inside the superconducting dome, near optimum $T_c$.

We performed optical studies on CaFeAsF single crystals, a parent compound of the 1111-type iron-based superconductors that undergoes a structural phase transition from tetragonal to orthorhombic at $T_s$ = 121 K and a magnetic one to a spin density wave (SDW) state at $T_N$ = 110 K. In the low temperature optical conductivity spectrum, after the subtraction of a narrow Drude peak, we observe a pronounced singularity around 300 cm$^{-1}$ that separates two regions of quasilinear conductivity. We outline that these characteristic absorption features are signatures of Dirac fermions, similar to what was previously reported for the BaFe$_2$As$_2$ system [1]. In support of this interpretation, we show that for the latter system this singular feature disappears rapidly upon electron and hole do**, as expected if it arises from a van Hove singularity in-between two Dirac cones. Finally, we show that one of the infrared-active phonon modes (the Fe-As mode at 250 cm$^{-1}$) develops a strongly asymmetric line shape in the SDW state and note that this behaviour can be explained in terms of a strong coupling with the Dirac fermions.

2H MoS2 has been intensively studied because of layer-dependent electronic structures and novel physical properties. Though the metastable 1T MoS2 with the [MoS6] octahedron was observed from the microscopic area, the true crystal structure of 1T phase has not been determined strictly. Moreover, the true physical properties have not been demonstrated from experiments due to the challenge for the preparation of pure 1T MoS2 crystals. Here, we successfully synthesized the 1T MoS2 single crystals and re-determined the crystal structure of 1T MoS2 from single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1T MoS2 crystalizes in space group P-3m1 with a cell of a = b = 3.190(3) Å and c = 5.945(6) Å. The individual MoS2 layer consists of MoS6 octahedron sharing edge with each other. More surprisingly, the bulk 1T MoS2 crystals undergo a superconducting transition of Tc = 4 K, which is the first observation of superconductivity in pure 1T MoS2 phase.

Recently we reported an enhanced superconductivity in restacked monolayer TaS_2 nanosheets compared with the bulk TaS_2, pointing to the exotic physical properties of low dimensional systems. Here we tune the superconducting properties of this system with magnetic field along different directions, where a strong Pauli paramagnetic spin-splitting effect is found in this system. Importantly, an unusual enhancement as high as 3.8 times of the upper critical field B_{c2}, as compered with the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) model and Tinkham model, is observed under the inclined external magnetic field. Moreover, with the out-of-plane field fixed, we find that the superconducting transition temperature T_c can be enhanced by increasing the in-plane field and forms a dome-shaped phase diagram. An extended GL model considering the special microstructure with wrinkles was proposed to describe the results. The restacked crystal structure without inversion center along with the strong spin-orbit coupling may also play an important role for our observations.

We have grown single crystals of the iron-based ladder material BaFe_2S_3, which is superconductive under high pressure, adopting different conditions. By comparing the behaviors of these samples, it is found that the in situ annealing process can affect the crystal structure and the electrical transport, enhance the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, and reduce the extrinsic ferromagnetic component of the system. An in-depth analysis indicates that the crystal quality is improved by the in situ annealing in terms of reducing both the Fe deficiency and the Fe impurity in the samples. The improvement of the sample quality will facilitate the investigations on the intrinsic properties of this material.

Despite the fact that 1111-type iron arsenides hold the record transition temperature of iron-based superconductors, their electronic structures have not been studied much because of the lack of high-quality single crystals. In this study, we completely determine the Fermi surface in the antiferromagnetic state of CaFeAsF, a 1111 iron-arsenide parent compound, by performing quantum oscillation measurements and band-structure calculations. The determined Fermi surface consists of a symmetry-related pair of Dirac electron cylinders and a normal hole cylinder. From analyses of quantum-oscillation phases, we demonstrate that the electron cylinders carry a nontrivial Berry phase $π$. The carrier density is of the order of 10$^{-3}$ per Fe. This unusual metallic state with the extremely small carrier density is a consequence of the previously discussed topological feature of the band structure which prevents the antiferromagnetic gap from being a full gap. We also report a nearly linear-in-$B$ magnetoresistance and an anomalous resistivity increase above about 30 T for $B \parallel c$, the latter of which is likely related to the quantum limit of the electron orbit. Intriguingly, the electrical resistivity exhibits a nonmetallic temperature dependence in the paramagnetic tetragonal phase ($T >$ 118 K), which may suggest an incoherent state. Our study provides a detailed knowledge of the Fermi surface in the antiferromagnetic state of 1111 parent compounds and moreover opens up a new possibility to explore Dirac-fermion physics in those compounds.

The strongly correlated electron fluids in high temperature cuprate superconductors demonstrate an anomalous linear temperature ($T$) dependent resistivity behavior, which persists to a wide temperature range without exhibiting saturation. As cooling down, those electron fluids lose the resistivity and condense into the superfluid. However, the origin of the linear-$T$ resistivity behavior and its relationship to the strongly correlated superconductivity remain a mystery. Here we report a universal relation $dρ/dT=(μ_0k_B/\hbar)λ^2_L$, which bridges the slope of the linear-$T$-dependent resistivity ($dρ/dT$) to the London penetration depth $λ_L$ at zero temperature among cuprate superconductor Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ and heavy fermion superconductors CeCoIn$_5$, where $μ_0$ is vacuum permeability, $k_B$ is the Boltzmann constant and $\hbar$ is the reduced Planck constant. We extend this scaling relation to different systems and found that it holds for other cuprate, pnictide and heavy fermion superconductors as well, regardless of the significant differences in the strength of electronic correlations, transport directions, and do** levels. Our analysis suggests that the scaling relation in strongly correlated superconductors could be described as a hydrodynamic diffusive transport, with the diffusion coefficient ($D$) approaching the quantum limit $D\sim\hbar/m^*$, where $m^*$ is the quasi-particle effective mass.

The anisotropy of the Fe-based superconductors is much smaller than that of the cuprates and the theoretical calculations. A credible understanding for this experimental fact is still lacking up to now. Here we experimentally study the magnetic-field-angle dependence of electronic resistivity in the superconducting phase of iron-based superconductor CaFe$_{0.882}$Co$_{0.118}$AsF, and find the strongest anisotropy effect of the upper critical field among the iron-based superconductors based on the framework of Ginzburg-Landau theory. The evidences of energy band structure and charge density distribution from electronic structure calculations demonstrate that the observed strong anisotropic effect mainly comes from the strong ionic bonding in between the ions of Ca$^{2+}$ and F$^-$, which weakens the interlayer coupling between the layers of FeAs and CaF. This finding provides a significant insight into the nature of experimentally observed strong anisotropic effect of electronic resistivity, and also paves an avenue to design exotic two dimensional artificial unconventional superconductors in future.

Millimeter sized single crystals of CaFe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$AsF were grown using a self-flux method. It is found that high-quality single crystals can be grown from three approaches with different initial raw materials. The chemical compositions and crystal structure were characterized carefully. The c-axis lattice constant is suppressed by the Co substitution. Superconductivity with the critical transition $T_c$ as high as 21 K was confirmed by both the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements in the sample with $x$ = 0.12. Moreover, it is found that $T_c$ can be enhanced for about 1 K under the very small hydrostatic pressure of 0.22 GPa, which is more quickly than that reported in the polycrystalline samples. Our results is a promotion for the physical investigations of 1111 phase iron-pnictide superconductors.

We present a systematical study on the roles of electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling in the isovalent Pd-doped superconductor SrPt$_3$P. By using solid state reaction method, we fabricated the strong spin-orbit coupling superconductors Sr(Pt$_{1-x}$Pd$_x$)$_3$P with strong electron correlated Pd dopant of the $4d$ orbital. As increasing the isovalent Pd concentrations without introducing any extra electron/hole carriers, the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ decreases monotonously, which suggests the existence of competition between spin-orbit coupling and electron correlation in the superconducting state. In addition, the electronic band structure calculations demonstrate that the strength of electron susceptibility is suppressed gradually by the Pd dopant suggesting the incompatible relation between spin-orbit coupling and electron correlation, which is also consistent with experimental measurements. Our results provide significant insights in the natures of the interplay between the spin-orbit coupling and the electron correlation in superconductivity, and may pave a way for understanding the mechanism of superconductivity in this 5d-metal-based compound.

Here we report the successful growth of CaFeAsF single crystals with the sizes of 1-2 mm using the self-flux method. Owning to the availability of the high-quality single crystals, the structure and transport properties were investigated with a high reliability. The structure was refined by using the single-crystal x-ray diffraction data, which confirms the reports earlier on the basis of powder data. A clear anomaly associated with the structural transition was observed at 121 K from the resistivity, magnetoresistance, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Another kink-feature at 110 K, most likely an indication of the antiferromagnetic transition, was also detected in the resistivity data. Our results supply a basis to propel the physical investigations on the 1111 phase of the Fe-based superconductors.

The interplay between unconventional superconductivity and the ordering of charge/spin density wave is one of the most vital issues in both condensed matter physics and material science. The Ti-based compound BaTi_2As_2O, which can be seen as the parent phase of superconducting BaTi_2Sb_2O, has a layered structure with a space group P4/mmm, similar to that of cuprate and iron-based superconductors. This material exhibits a charge density wave (CDW) ordering transition revealed by an anomaly at around 200 K in transport measurements. Here, we report the synthesis and systematical study of the physical properties in Cr-doped BaTi_{2-x}Cr_xAs_2O (x = 0 - 0.154), and demonstrate that the transition temperature of the CDW ordering is suppressed gradually by the doped Cr element. The magnetization measurements confirm the evolution of the CDW ordering transition. These observed behaviors are similar to that observed in iron-based superconductors, but no superconductivity emerges down to 2 K. In addition, the first-principles calculations are also carried out for well-understanding the nature of experimental observations.

High-T_c superconductors confined to two dimension exhibit novel physical phenomena, such as superconductor-insulator transition. In the Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8+x (Bi2212) model system, despite extensive studies, the intrinsic superconducting properties at the thinness limit have been difficult to determine. Here we report a method to fabricate high quality single-crystal Bi2212 films down to half-unit-cell thickness in the form of graphene/Bi2212 van der Waals heterostructure, in which sharp superconducting transitions are observed. The heterostructure also exhibits a nonlinear current-voltage characteristic due to the Dirac nature of the graphene band structure. More interestingly, although the critical temperature remains essentially the same with reduced thickness of Bi2212, the slope of the normal state T-linear resistivity varies by a factor of 4-5, and the sheet resistance increases by three orders of magnitude, indicating a surprising decoupling of the normal state resistance and superconductivity. The developed technique is versatile, applicable to investigate other two-dimensional (2D) superconducting materials.
