Exclusive production of a $χ_{c1}$ axial vector quarkonia in photon-proton scattering at high energies requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange. In the limit of vanishing momentum transfer this occurs either via the exchange of a photon, the Primakoff process, where the spin of the proton does not change. For axial-vector meson production, as a consequence of the Landau-Yang theorem, the Primakoff cross section is finite as $t \to 0$. Alternatively, a $C$-odd spin dependent Odderon can be exchanged, which involves a spin flip of the proton. The resulting cross section is related to the square of the gluon Sivers function or its $\boldsymbol{k}_\perp^2$-moment. Using two models for the gluon Sivers function from the literature we compute the ratio of Sivers to Primakoff cross sections and the angular coefficient $λ_θ$ governing the angular distribution of the $χ_{c1} \to J/ψ+ γ$ decay as functions of $x$. We point out that these observables constrain the magnitude of the gluon Sivers function at small $x$ which could be accessed in electron-proton scattering and ultraperipheral proton-proton and nucleus-proton collisions.

The most complete high-energy evolution of Wilson line operators is described by the set of equations called Balitsky-JIMWLK evolution equations. It is known from the studies of the linear - the BFKL - evolution equation that the leading corrections come from the kinematically enhanced double collinear logarithms. A method for resumming such logarithmic corrections to all orders for the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation is known under the name of kinematical constraint. In this work, we discuss the progress in implementing these corrections into the Langevin formulation of the JIMWLK equation. In particular, we introduce a set of correlation functions which are nonlocal in the rapidity variable. They appear in the construction of the kinematical constraint, however, their behavior with rapidity has not been investigated numerically so far. We derive their large-$N$ evolution equations, solve them numerically, and comment on their implications for the implementation of the full kinematical constraint.

Exclusive $C=+1$ scalar, axial-vector, and tensor quarkonium production in high-energy electron-proton scattering requires a $C$-odd $t$-channel exchange of a photon or a three gluon ladder. We derive the expressions for the corresponding amplitudes. The relative phase of the photon vs. three gluon exchange amplitudes is determined by the sign of the light-front matrix element of the eikonal color current operator $d^{abc}J^{+a}J^{+b}J^{+c}$ at moderate $x$, and is not affected by small-$x$ QCD evolution. Model calculations predict constructive interference, which is particularly strong for momentum transfer $|t|\sim 1$~GeV$^2$ where the cross section for $χ_{cJ}$ production exceeds that for pure photon exchange by up to a factor of 4. We find that exclusive $χ_{cJ}$ electroproduction at the Electron-Ion Collider should occur with well measurable rates and measurements of these processes should allow to find an evidence of the perturbative Odderon exchange. We also compute the total electroproduction cross section as a function of energy and provide first estimates of the number of $χ_{cJ}$ events per month at the Electron-Ion Collider design luminosity.

Effects of non-linear small-x evolution of the gluon distribution given by the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation are analyzed within the collinear approximation framework. We perform a twist decomposition of the proton structure functions F2 and FL obtained from the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation using the Mellin representation of the scattering cross-sections at high energies. In both the structure functions we find strong corrections coming from the non-linear effects in the gluon evolution at twist 2, and strongly suppressed higher twist effects. This implies that unitarization effects of high energy scattering amplitudes are mostly the leading twist effect. Furthermore we consider the double logarithmic limit of the Balitsky--Kovchegov equation for the collinear gluon distribution, and compare the result to the Gribov-Levin-Ryskin equation. We find that these two equations differ by two powers of the hard scale logarithm for the large scales.

Studying the partonic cross section, we identify all soft and collinear divergencies in the real and virtual contribution, and recognize that all non-cancelling ones can be attributed to PDF evolution, evolution kernel, and target impact factors. In result, we construct a framework that may be used to compute NLO impact factors in general. In particular, we recover known expressions for inclusive NLO quark-and gluon impact factor corrections.

This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and develo** detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions.
This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. These considerations will form the basis for a world-class experimental program that aims to increase our understanding of the fundamental structure of all visible matter

They represent three different theoretical schemes which are usually considered in the $k_T$-factorization approach, known under the acronyms: KMR, CCFM and GBW gluon distributions. We find sensitivity of the calculated prompt photon transverse momentum distribution to the gluon transverse momentum distribution. The predictions obtained with the three approaches are compared to data, that allows to differentiate between them. We also discuss the significance of the two partonic channels, confronted with the expectations which are based on the applicability of the $k_T$-factorization scheme in the high energy approximation.

Additionally, results for the total cross sections are provided. The calculations deliver a significant improvement of the theoretical predictions, especially for the $t \bar{t} H$ and the $t \bar{t} Z$ production. In these cases, predictions for both the total and differential cross sections are remarkably stable with respect to the central scale choice and carry a substantially reduced scale uncertainty in comparison with the complete NLO predictions.

We analyze contributions to the heavy vector meson production with large transverse momentum in proton--proton and diffractive photon--proton scattering driven by an exchange of two Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov Pomerons in the squared amplitudes. The Pomerons couple to a single parton and form a Pomeron loop closed by the vector meson impact factors. For the photon--proton case the diffractive cut of the Pomeron loop contributes, and for the inclusive hadroproduction one finds the loop with two cut Pomerons. We compute both of these Pomeron loop contributions and study in detail their properties. The results are then used to calculate the cross sections for diffractive $J/ψ$ photoproduction with large transverse momentum at HERA and the correlated two Pomeron contribution for inclusive $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ production cross sections at the LHC. Within a unified approach a good description of the photoproduction data is found, but correlated two Pomeron mechanism gives only a small contribution to hadroproduction of the vector mesons at the LHC.

We perform threshold resummation of soft gluon corrections to the total cross sections and the invariant mass distributions for production of a top-antitop quark pair associated with a heavy electroweak boson $V = W^+$, $W^-$ or $Z$ in $pp$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. The resummation is carried out at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy using the direct QCD Mellin space technique in the three-particle invariant mass kinematics. It is found that for the $t\bar t Z$ process the soft gluon resummation introduces significant corrections to the next-to-leading order (NLO) results. For the central scale equal to the $t\bar t Z$ invariant mass the corrections reach nearly 30%. For this process, the dominant theoretical uncertainty of the cross section due to the scale choice is significantly reduced at the NLO+NNLL level with respect to the NLO results. The effects of resummation are found to be less pronounced in the $t\bar t W^{\pm}$ case. The obtained results are compared to recent measurements performed by CMS and ATLAS collaborations at the LHC.

A modified form of the input parton density functions is also included, motivated by parton saturation mechanism at small Bjorken $x$ and at a low scale. These modifications lead to a significant improvement of the data description in the region of low $Q^2$. For the whole data sample, the new benchmark NNLO DGLAP fit yields $χ^2$ / d.o.f. $\simeq 1.2$ to be compared to 1.5 resulting from the standard NNLO DGLAP fit. We discuss the results in the context of the parton saturation picture and describe the impact of the higher-twist corrections on the derived parton density functions. The resulting description of the longitudinal proton structure function $F_L$ is consistent with the HERA data. Our estimates of higher-twist contributions to the proton structure functions are comparable to the leading-twist contributions at low $Q^2 \simeq 2$ GeV$^2$ and $x \simeq 10^{-5}$. The $x$-dependence of the twist 4 corrections obtained from the best fit is consistent with the leading twist 4 quasi-partonic operators, corresponding to an exchange of four interacting gluons in the $t$-channel.

The forward Drell--Yan process in $pp$ scattering at the LHC at $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV is considered. We analyze the Drell--Yan structure functions assuming the dominance of a Compton-like emission of a virtual photon from a fast quark scattering off the small $x$ gluons. The color dipole framework is applied to perform quantitatively the twist decomposition of all the Drell--Yan structure functions. Two models of the color dipole scattering are applied: the Golec-Biernat--Wüsthoff model and the dipole cross section obtained from the Balitsky--Fadin--Kuraev--Lipatov evolution equation. The two models have essentially different higher twist content and the gluon transverse momentum distribution and lead to different significant effects beyond the collinear leading twist description. It is found that the gluon transverse momentum effects are significant in the Drell--Yan structure functions for all Drell--Yan pair masses $M$, and the higher twist effects become important for $M \lesssim 10$ GeV. It is found that the structure function $W_{TT}$ related to the $A_2$ angular coefficient and the Lam--Tung observable $A_0 -A_2$ are particularly sensitive to the gluon $k_T$ effects and to the higher twist effects. A procedure is suggested how to disentangle the higher twist effects from the gluon transverse momentum effects.

The main goal of the working group was to present the state-of-the-art of Higgs physics at the LHC, integrating all new results that have appeared in the last few years. The first part compiles the most up-to-date predictions of Higgs boson production cross sections and decay branching ratios, parton distribution functions, and off-shell Higgs boson production and interference effects. The second part discusses the recent progress in Higgs effective field theory predictions, followed by the third part on pseudo-observables, simplified template cross section and fiducial cross section measurements, which give the baseline framework for Higgs boson property measurements. The fourth part deals with the beyond the Standard Model predictions of various benchmark scenarios of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, extended scalar sector, Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model and exotic Higgs boson decays. This report follows three previous working-group reports: Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 1. Inclusive Observables (CERN-2011-002), Handbook of LHC Higgs Cross Sections: 2. The Lam-Tung relation breaking coefficient $A_{\mathrm{LT}} = A_0 - A_2$ in the Drell-Yan dilepton angular distributions in the $Z^0$ boson mass region at the LHC is analyzed in the $k_T$-factorization approach. This observable was recently measured with high precision by ATLAS collaboration. Within the $k_T$-factorization approach we perform an approximate ${\cal O}(α_{\mathrm{em}}α_s^2)$ calculation of the off-shell parton hard matrix elements in which we include the leading tree level contributions of valence quarks and off-shell gluons: the $q_{\mathrm{val}} g^* \to qZ^0$ channel and the $g^*g^* \to q\bar q Z^0$ channel. The resulting $A_{\mathrm{LT}}$ exhibits high sensitivity to the gluon transverse momentum distribution (TMD). Several gluon TMDs are probed derived from the CCFM and BFKL evolution equations, and given by QCD-inspired phenomenological parameterizations. The ATLAS data favor a simple "Weizsäcker-Williams" (WW) hard gluon TMD with the asymptotic behavior of one-gluon exchange at large gluon transverse momenta and moderate $x$. It is verified that the proposed approach with the WW gluon TMD describes well also the $A_0$ and $A_2$ angular coefficients at the $Z^0$ peak, as well as the Drell-Yan dilepton mass distribution at lower masses. We conclude that inclusion of gluon transverse momentum effects improves description of the angular distributions of Drell-Yan dileptons and that the Drell-Yan scattering provides an excellent probe of the parton TMDs.

This document is a summary of a workshop on future physics with HERA data held at DESY, Hamburg at the end of 2014. All areas of HERA physics are covered and contributions from both experimentalists and theorists are included. The document outlines areas where HERA physics can still make a significant contribution, principally in a deeper understanding of QCD, and its relevance to other facilities. Within the framework of the Data Preservation in High Energy Physics, the HERA data have been preserved for analyses to take place over a timescale of 10 years and more. Therefore, although an extensive list of possibilities is presented here, safe storage of the data ensures that it can also be used in the far future should new ideas and analyses be proposed.

Multiple Partonic Interactions are often crucial for interpreting results obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The quest for a sound understanding of the dynamics behind MPI - particularly at this time when the LHC is due to start its "Run II" operations - has focused the aim of this workshop. MPI@LHC2014 concentrated mainly on the phenomenology of LHC measurements whilst kee** in perspective those results obtained at previous hadron colliders. The workshop has also debated some of the state-of-the-art theoretical considerations and the modeling of MPI in Monte Carlo event generators. The topics debated in the workshop included: Phenomenology of MPI processes and multiparton distributions; Considerations for the description of MPI in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD); Measuring multiple partonic interactions; Experimental results on inelastic hadronic collisions: underlying event, minimum bias, forward energy flow; Monte Carlo generator development and tuning; Connections with low-x phenomena, diffraction, heavy-ion physics and cosmic rays. In a total of 57 plenary talks the workshop covered a wide range of experimental results, Monte Carlo development and tuning, phenomenology and dedicated measurements of MPI which were produced with data from the LHC's Run I. Recent progress of theoretical understanding of MPI in pp, pA and AA collisions as well as the role of MPI in diffraction and small-x physics were also covered. The workshop forstered close contact between the experimental and theoretical communities. It provided a setting to discuss many of the different aspects of MPI, eventually identifying them as a unifying concept between apparently different lines of research and evaluating their impact on the LHC physics programme.

A contribution to $J/ψ$ hadroproduction is analyzed in which the meson production is mediated by three-gluon partonic state, with two gluons coming from the target and one gluon from the projectile. This mechanism involves double gluon density in one of the protons, hence this contribution enters at a non-leading twist. It is, however, relevant due to an enhancement factor coming from large double gluon density at small~$x$. We calculate the three-gluon contribution to $J/ψ$ hadroproduction within perturbative QCD in the $k_T$-factorization framework. Results are obtained for differential $p_T$-dependent cross-sections for all $J/ψ$ polarizations and for the sum over the polarization components. The rescattering contribution is found to provide a significant correction to the standard leading twist cross-section at the energies of the Tevatron or the LHC at moderate $p_T$. We suggest $J/ψ$ production in proton-nucleus collision as a possible probe of the triple gluon mechanism.

In this kinematical domain higher twist effects may be significant and introduce sizeable corrections to the standard leading twist description. We study the forward Drell-Yan process beyond the leading twist approximation within the color dipole model framework that incorporates multiple scattering effects. We derive the Mellin representation of the forward Drell-Yan impact factors for fully differential cross-sections. These results combined with the color dipole cross-section of the saturation model are used to perform twist expansion of the Drell-Yan structure functions at arbitrary transverse momentum $q_T$ of the Drell-Yan pair and also of the structure functions integrated over $q_T$. We also investigate the Lam-Tung relation, find that it is broken at twist 4 and provide explicit estimates for the breaking term.

The principal aim of the program was to develop and sharpen the science case for an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a facility that will be able to collide electrons and positrons with polarized protons and with light to heavy nuclei at high energies, offering unprecedented possibilities for in-depth studies of quantum chromodynamics. This report is organized around four major themes: i) the spin and flavor structure of the proton, ii) three-dimensional structure of nucleons and nuclei in momentum and configuration space, iii) QCD matter in nuclei, and iv) Electroweak physics and the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Beginning with an executive summary, the report contains tables of key measurements, chapter overviews for each of the major scientific themes, and detailed individual contributions on various aspects of the scientific opportunities presented by an EIC.

The problem of kinematic effects in the gluon and color dipole cascades is addressed in the large N_c limit of SU(N_c) Yang--Mills theory. We investigate the tree level multi-gluon components of the gluon light cone wave functions in the light cone gauge kee** the exact kinematics of the gluon emissions. We focus on the components with all helicities identical to the helicity of the incoming gluon. The recurrence relations for the gluon wave functions are derived. In the case when the virtuality of the incoming gluon is neglected the exact form of the multi-gluon wave function is obtained. Furthermore, we propose an approximate scheme to treat the kinematic effects in the color dipole evolution kernel. The new kernel entangles longitudinal and transverse degrees of freedom and leads to a reduced diffusion in the impact parameter. When evaluated in the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy, the kernel reproduces the correct form of the double logarithmic terms of the dipole size ratios present in the exact NLL dipole kernel. Finally, we analyze the scattering of the incoming gluon light cone components off a gluon target and the fragmentation of the scattered state into the final state. The equivalence of the resulting amplitudes and the maximally-helicity-violating amplitudes is demonstrated in the special case when the target gluon is far in rapidity from the evolved gluon wave function.

We provide an assessment of the state of the art in various issues related to experimental measurements, phenomenological methods and theoretical results relevant for the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and their uncertainties, with the specific aim of providing benchmarks of different existing approaches and results in view of their application to physics at the LHC. We discuss higher order corrections, we review and compare different approaches to small x resummation, and we assess the possible relevance of parton saturation in the determination of PDFS at HERA and its possible study in LHC processes. We provide various benchmarks of PDF fits, with the specific aim of studying issues of error propagation, non-gaussian uncertainties, choice of functional forms of PDFs, and combination of data from different experiments and different processes. We study the impact of combined HERA (ZEUS-H1) structure function data, their impact on PDF uncertainties, and their implications for the computation of standard candle processes, and we review the recent F_L determination at HERA. Finally, we compare and assess methods for luminosity measurements at the LHC and the impact of PDFs on them.

Abstract:
In this contribution we briefly review the current status of the dipole models and parton saturation on the basis of results presented at the HERA-LHC workshops in the years 2006-2008. The problem of foundations of the dipole models is addressed within the QCD formalism. Some limitations of the models and open problems are pointed out. Furthermore, we review and compare the currently used dipole…

The problem of foundations of the dipole models is addressed within the QCD formalism. Some limitations of the models and open problems are pointed out. Furthermore, we review and compare the currently used dipole models and summarise the applications to describe various sets of HERA data. Finally we outline some of the theoretical approaches to the problem of multiple scattering and saturation.

Searching for odderon in exclusive vector meson hadroproduction
Authors:
L. Motyka
Abstract:
In this talk estimates are presented of the odderon contributions to the exclusive J/psi and Upsilon production cross-sections at the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider. The obtained cross-sections are compared to cross-sections of the dominant background subprocesses mediated by the photon exchange. Possible experimental cuts are proposed that reduce the photon background.

Proton elastic impact factors for two, three, and four gluons
Authors:
L. Motyka
Abstract:
In this talk we report on recent calculation of high energy baryon scattering amplitudes in QCD. Elastic baryon impact factors for two, three and four gluons are presented and their energy evolution is described that incorporates unitarity corrections. We find that the baryon couples directly to the BFKL Pomeron, to the BKP odderon and to a new state, a three-gluon BKP Pomeron. The new state may…

We find that the baryon couples directly to the BFKL Pomeron, to the BKP odderon and to a new state, a three-gluon BKP Pomeron. The new state may decay into four gluons with a new 3 -> 4 transition vertex. This vertex defines the transition amplitude of the three-gluon BKP Pomeron state into two BFKL Pomerons.

We study the effect of soft gluon emission in the hadroproduction of squark-antisquark and gluino-gluino pairs at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. The one-loop soft anomalous dimension matrices controlling the colour evolution of the underlying hard-scattering processes are calculated. We present the resummed total cross sections and show numerical results for proton-proton collisions at 14 TeV. The size of the NLL contribution to the cross section and the reduction of the scale dependence of the theoretical predictions due to including soft gluon effects are discussed.

We provide predictions for the rapidity distributions of exclusive photoproduced J/psi and Upsilon mesons, and Z^0 bosons, at the Tevatron and LHC. We use the equivalent-photon approximation with the photon-proton cross sections given by the impact parameter dependent dipole saturation model, which has already been shown to give a good description of a wide variety of HERA data. We derive the quark-antiquark light-cone wave functions of timelike neutral electroweak bosons. An essential difference is pointed out between the amplitude for timelike heavy boson photoproduction and the amplitude for deeply virtual Compton scattering.
