Burau representation of braid groups and $q$-rationals
Abstract: We establish a link between the new theory of $q$-deformed rational numbers and the classical Burau representation of the braid group $\mathrm{B}_3$. We apply this link to the open problem of classification of faithful complex specializations of this representation. As a result we provide an answer to this problem in terms of the singular set of the $q$-rationals and prove the faithfulness of the… ▽ More

Quantum continuants, quantum rotundus and triangulations of annuli
Abstract: We give enumerative interpretations of the polynomials arising as numerators and denominators of the $q$-deformed rational numbers introduced by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko. The considered polynomials are quantum analogues of the classical continuants and of their cyclically invariant versions called rotundi. The combinatorial models involve triangulations of polygons and annuli. We prove that the… ▽ More

On radius of convergence of $q$-deformed real numbers
Abstract: We study analytic properties of ``$q$-deformed real numbers'', a notion recently introduced by two of us. A $q$-deformed positive real number is a power series with integer coefficients in one formal variable~$q$. We study the radius of convergence of these power series assuming that $q$ is a complex variable. Our main conjecture, which can be viewed as a $q$-analogue of Hurwitz's Irrational Numbe… ▽ More

$q$-deformations of the modular group and of the real quadratic irrational numbers
Abstract: We develop further the theory of $q$-deformations of real numbers introduced by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko, and focus in particular on the class of real quadratic irrationals. Our key tool is a $q$-deformation of the modular group $PSL_q(2,\mathbb{Z})$. The action of the modular group by Möbius transformations commutes with the $q$-deformations. On $q$-deformed real numbers
Abstract: We associate a formal power series with integer coefficients to a positive real number, we interpret this series as a "$q$-analogue of a real." The construction is based on the notion of $q$-deformed rational number introduced in arXiv:1812.00170. Extending the construction to negative real numbers, we obtain certain Laurent series.

Counting Coxeter's friezes over a finite field via moduli spaces
Abstract: We count the number of Coxeter's friezes over a finite field. Our method uses geometric realizations of the spaces of friezes in a certain completion of the classical moduli space $\mathcal{M}_{0,n}$ allowing repeated points in the configurations. Counting points in the completed moduli space over a finite field is related to the enumeration problem of counting partitions of cyclically ordered set… ▽ More

Coxeter's frieze patterns at the crossroads of algebra, geometry and combinatorics
Abstract: Frieze patterns of numbers, introduced in the early 70's by Coxeter, are currently attracting much interest due to connections with the recent theory of cluster algebras. The present paper aims to review the original work of Coxeter and the new developments around the notion of frieze, focusing on the representation theoretic, geometric and combinatorial approaches.
