Characteristic Curves and the exponentiation in the Riordan Lie group: A connection through examples
Abstract: We point out how to use the classical characteristic method, that is used to solve quasilinear PDE's, to obtain the matrix exponential of some lower triangle infinite matrices. We use the Lie Frechet structure of the Riordan group described in [4]. After that we describe some linear dynamical systems in $\mathbb{K}[[x]]$ with a concrete involution being a symmetry or a time-reversal symmetry for t… ▽ More

A combinatorial description of shape theory
Abstract: We give a combinatorial description of shape theory using finite topological $T_0$-spaces (finite partially ordered sets). This description may lead to a sort of computational shape theory. Then we introduce the notion of core for inverse sequences of finite spaces and prove some properties.

Commutators and commutator subgroups of the Riordan group
Abstract: We calculate the derived series of the Riordan group. To do that, we study a nested sequence of its subgroups, herein denoted by $\mathcal G_k$. By means of this sequence, we first obtain the n-th commutator subgroup of the Associated subgroup. This fact allows us to get some related results about certain groups of formal power series and to complete the proof of our main goal, Theorem 1 in this p… ▽ More

Computational approximations of compact metric spaces
Abstract: Given a compact metric space $X$, we associate to it an inverse sequence of finite $T_0$ topological spaces. The inverse limit of this inverse sequence contains a homeomorphic copy of $X$ that is a strong deformation retract. We provide a method to approximate the homology groups of $X$ and other algebraic invariants. Finally, we study computational aspects and the implementation of this method.

On the triviality of flows in Alexandroff spaces

On some topological realizations of groups and homomorphisms
Abstract: Let $f:G\rightarrow H$ be a homomorphism of groups, we construct a topological space $X_f$ such that its group of homeomorphisms is isomorphic to $G$, its group of homotopy classes of self-homotopy equivalences is isomorphic to $H$ and the natural map between the group of homeomorphisms of $X_f$ and the group of homotopy classes of self-homotopy equivalences of $X_f$ is precisely $f$. Coincidence theorems for finite topological spaces
Abstract: We adapt the definition of the Vietoris map to the framework of finite topological spaces and we prove some coincidence theorems. From them, we deduce a Lefschetz fixed point theorem for multivalued maps that improves recent results in the literature. Finally, it is given an application to the approximation of discrete dynamical systems in polyhedra.

The group generated by Riordan involutions
Abstract: We prove that any element in the group generated by the Riordan involutions is the product of at most four of them. We also give a description of this subgroup as a semidirect product of a special subgroup of the commutator subgroup and the Klein four-group.

Reconstruction of compacta by finite approximations and Inverse Persistence
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to show how the homotopy type of compact metric spaces can be reconstructed by the inverse limit of an inverse sequence of finite approximations of the corresponding space. This recovering allows us to define inverse persistence as a new kind of persistence process.

Semiflows induced by length metrics: On the way to extinction
Abstract: Bing and Moise proved, independently, that any Peano continuum admits a length metric d. We treat non-degenerate Peano continua with a length metric as evolution systems instead of stationary objects. For any compact length space (X, d) we consider a semiflow in the hyperspace $2^X$ of all non-empty closed sets in X. This semiflow starts with a canonical copy of the Peano continuum (X,d) at t = 0… ▽ More

Pascal triangle, Stirling numbers and the unique invariance of the Euler characteristic
Abstract: We use some basic properties of binomial and Stirling numbers to prove that the Euler characteristic is, essentially, the unique numerical topological invariant for compact polyhedra which can be expressed as a linear combination of the numbers of faces of triangulations. We obtain this result converting it into an eigenvalue problem.

Bounded distortion homeomorphisms on ultrametric spaces
Abstract: It is well-known that quasi-isometries between R-trees induce power quasi-symmetric homeomorphisms between their ultrametric end spaces. This paper investigates power quasi-symmetric homeomorphisms between bounded, complete, uniformly perfect, ultrametric spaces (i.e., those ultrametric spaces arising up to similarity as the end spaces of bushy trees). A bounded distortion property is found that… ▽ More

Our main tool to get our goal is the Riordan group. We use the product of Riordan matrices to interpret some relationships between different families of polynomials. Uniformly continuous maps between ends of R-trees
Abstract: There is a well-known correspondence between infinite trees and ultrametric spaces which can be interpreted as an equivalence of categories and comes from considering the end space of the tree. In this equivalence, uniformly continuous maps between the end spaces are translated to some classes of coarse maps (or even classes of metrically proper lipschitz maps) between the trees.
