Search for light tetraquark states in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays

Abstract: We search for the $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ and $1^{+-}$ light tetraquark states with masses up to 2.46~GeV/$c^2$ in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays with data samples of $(102\pm 2)$ million and $(158\pm 4)$ million events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the studied production modes, and 90\% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their branching… ▽ More We search for the $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ and $1^{+-}$ light tetraquark states with masses up to 2.46~GeV/$c^2$ in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays with data samples of $(102\pm 2)$ million and $(158\pm 4)$ million events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the studied production modes, and 90\% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their branching fractions in $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ decays into final states with $f_1(1285)$ are measured to be ${\cal B}(Υ(1S)\to f_1(1285)+anything)=(46\pm28({\rm stat.})\pm13({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(Υ(2S)\to f_1(1285)+anything)=(22\pm15({\rm stat.})\pm6.3({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$. The measured $χ_{b2} \to J/ψ+ anything$ branching fraction is measured to be $(1.50\pm0.34({\rm stat.})\pm0.22({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-3}$, and 90\% C.L. upper limits for the $χ_{b0,b1} \to J/ψ+ anything$ branching fractions are found to be $2.3\times 10^{-3}$ and $1.1\times 10^{-3}$, respectively. For ${\cal B}(χ_{b1} \to ω+ anything)$, the branching fraction is measured to be $(4.9\pm1.3({\rm stat.})\pm0.6({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-2}$. %($<3.68\times 10^{-2}$ at 90\% C.L.). Boundedness results for commutators with BMO functions via weighted estimates: a comprehensive approach

Abstract: We present a unified method to obtain weighted estimates of linear and multilinear commutators with BMO functions, that is amenable to a plethora of operators and functional settings. Here, $X_{c\bar{c}}$ denotes $η_{c}$, $J/ψ$, $χ_{c0}$, $χ_{c1}$, $η_{c}(2S)$, $ψ(2S)$, $ψ(3770)$, $X(3872)$, and $X(3915)$. We do not observe significant signals for $X(3872)$ nor $X(3915)$, and set the 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits: ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3872) K^{+} )<2.7 \times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3915) K^{+} )<2.9 \times 10^{-4}$. These represent the most stringent upper limit for ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3872) K^{+} )$ to date and the first measurement for ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to X(3915) K^{+} )$. The measured branching fractions for $η_{c}$ and $η_{c}(2S)$ are the most precise to date: ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to η_{c} K^{+} )=(12.3\pm0.8\pm0.7) \times 10^{-4}$ and ${\cal B}(B^{+} \to η_{c}(2S)K^{+}) =(4.9\pm1.1\pm0.3) \times 10^{-4}$ , where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. △ Less

In this framework, we discuss experimental results on creation of strain induced single photon sources using a WSe2 monolayer on a silver substrate, coated with a very thin dielectric layer. We identify quantum emitters which are formed at various locations in the sample. The emission is highly linearly polarized, stable in linewidth and decay times down to 300 ps are observed. We provide numerical calculations of our monolayer-metal device platform to assess the strength of the radiative decay rate enhancement by the presence of the plasmonic structure. We believe, that our results represent a crucial step towards the ultra-compact integration of high performance single photon sources in nanoplasmonic devices and circuits. △ Less

Our results generalize to the weighted setting results obtained by Grafakos and Kalton (Collect. Math. 2001) and recent work by the third author, Grafakos, Nakamura, and Sawano. Abstract: We report a new measurement of the exclusive $e^+ e^- \to D^{(*) \pm} D^{*\mp}$ cross sections as a function of the center-of-mass energy from the $D^{(*) \pm} D^{* \mp}$ threshold through $\sqrt{s}=6.0$ GeV with initial-state radiation. The analysis is based on a data sample collected with the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of $951$ fb$^{-1}$. Study of $η$ and dipion transitions in $Υ(4S)$ decays to lower bottomonia

Abstract: We study hadronic transitions between bottomonium states using 496 fb$^{-1}$ data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We search for the decay $Υ(1^3D_{1,2})\toηΥ(1S)$, but do not find significant evidence for such a transition. We also measure the initial state radiation production cross sections of the $Υ(2S,3S)$ resonances and we find values compatible with the expected ones. Finally, the analysis of the $Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(1S)$ events shows indications for a resonant contribution due to the $f_0(980)$ meson. △ Less

Ensemble Estimation of Distributional Functionals via $k$-Nearest Neighbors

In particular, $k$-nearest neighbor (nn) based methods have received a lot of attention due to their adaptive nature and their relatively low computational complexity. We derive the mean squared error (MSE) convergence rates of leave-one-out $k$-nn plug-in density estimators of a large class of distributional functionals without boundary correction. We then apply the theory of optimally weighted ensemble estimation to obtain weighted ensemble estimators that achieve the parametric MSE rate under assumptions that are competitive with the state of the art. The asymptotic distributions of these estimators, which are unknown for all other $k$-nn based distributional functional estimators, are also presented which enables us to perform hypothesis testing. △ Less

Evidence for Isospin Violation and Measurement of $CP$ Asymmetries in $B \to K^{\ast}(892) γ$

Abstract: We report the first evidence for isospin violation in $B \to K^* γ$ and the first measurement of difference of $CP$ asymmetries between $B^+ \to K^{*+} γ$ and $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$. This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation… ▽ More We report the first evidence for isospin violation in $B \to K^* γ$ and the first measurement of difference of $CP$ asymmetries between $B^+ \to K^{*+} γ$ and $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$. This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1$σ$, $Δ_{0+} = (+6.2 \pm 1.5 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.6 ({\rm syst.}) \pm 1.2 (f_{+-}/f_{00}))$\%, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ production in $Υ(4S)$ decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the SM. The result for the difference of $CP$ asymmetries is $ΔA_{CP} = (+2.4 \pm 2.8({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.5({\rm syst.}))$\%, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays are the most precise to date. Search for $Λ_c^+\toφp π^0$ and branching fraction measurement of $Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+ p π^0$

Abstract: We have searched for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\toφpπ^0$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 915 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider running at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances. No significant signal is observed, and we set an upper limit on the branchin… ▽ More We have searched for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\toφpπ^0$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 915 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider running at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances. No significant signal is observed, and we set an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to φpπ^0) <15.3\times10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level. The contribution for nonresonant $Λ_c^+\to K^+K^- pπ^0$ decays is found to be consistent with zero and the corresponding upper limit on its branching fraction is set to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to K^+K^-pπ^0)_{\rm NR} <6.3\times10^{-5} $ at 90% confidence level. We also measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+pπ^0$; the result is $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to K^-π^+pπ^0)= (4.42\pm0.05\, (\rm stat.) \pm 0.12\, (\rm syst.) \pm 0.16\, (\mathcal{B}_{\rm Norm}))\%$, which is the most precise measurement to date. Finally, we have searched for an intermediate hidden-strangeness pentaquark decay $P^+_s\toφp$. We see no evidence for this intermediate decay and set an upper limit on the product branching fraction of ${\cal B}(Λ_c^+\to P^+_s π^0)\times {\cal B}(P^+_s\toφp) <8.3\times 10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level. △ Less

The production cross sections divided by the number of spin states for $S=-1$ hyperons follow an exponential function with a single slope parameter except for the $Σ(1385)^+$ resonance. Suppression for $Σ(1385)^+$ and $Ξ(1530)^0$ hyperons is observed. Among the production cross sections of charmed baryons, a factor of three difference for $Λ_c^+$ states over $Σ_c$ states is observed. Direct Ensemble Estimation of Density Functionals

Traditionally, estimating these quantities requires either making parametric assumptions about the underlying distributions or using non-parametric density estimation followed by integration. Traditionally, estimating these quantities requires either making parametric assumptions about the underlying distributions or using non-parametric density estimation followed by integration. In this paper we introduce a direct nonparametric approach which bypasses the need for density estimation by using the error rates of k-NN classifiers asdata-driven basis functions that can be combined to estimate a range of density functionals. However, this method is subject to a non-trivial bias that dramatically slows the rate of convergence in higher dimensions. To overcome this limitation, we develop an ensemble method for estimating the value of the basis function which, under some minor constraints on the smoothness of the underlying distributions, achieves the parametric rate of convergence regardless of data dimension. △ Less

The measured time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry is $ A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.17) \%$, and the branching fraction is… ▽ More We report a study of the decay $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ using 921~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The measured time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry is $ A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.17) \%$, and the branching fraction is $\mathcal{B} (D^{0}\rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0})$ = (1.321 $\pm$ 0.023 $\pm$ 0.036 $\pm$ 0.044) $\times$ 10$^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the normalization mode ($D^0 \to K_S^0 π^0$). Among the remai… ▽ More We report branching fraction measurements of the decays $B^+\toη\ell^+ν_\ell$ and $B^+\toη^\prime\ell^+ν_\ell$ based on 711~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. This data sample contains 772 million $B\bar B$~events. One of the two $B$~mesons is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. Among the remaining ("signal-$B$") daughters, we search for the $η$~meson in two decay channels, $η\toγγ$ and $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$, and reconstruct the $η^{\prime}$~meson in $η^\prime\toηπ^+π^-$ with subsequent decay of the $η$ into $γγ$. Combining the two $η$ modes and using an extended maximum likelihood, the $B^+\toη\ell^+ν_\ell$ branching fraction is measured to be $(4.2\pm 1.1 (\rm stat.)\pm 0.3 (\rm syst.))\times 10^{-5}$. For $B^+\toη^\prime\ell^+ν_\ell$, we observe no significant signal and set an upper limit of $0.72\times 10^{-4}$ at 90\% confidence level. △ Less

Angle-dependence and optimal design for magnetic bubblecade with maximum speed

Abstract: Unidirectional magnetic domain-wall motion is a key concept underlying next-generation application devices. Such motion has been recently demonstrated by applying an alternating magnetic field, resulting in the coherent unidirectional motion of magnetic bubbles. Here we report the optimal configuration of applied magnetic field for the magnetic bubblecade, the coherent unidirectional motion of mag… ▽ More Unidirectional magnetic domain-wall motion is a key concept underlying next-generation application devices. Such motion has been recently demonstrated by applying an alternating magnetic field, resulting in the coherent unidirectional motion of magnetic bubbles. Here we report the optimal configuration of applied magnetic field for the magnetic bubblecade, the coherent unidirectional motion of magnetic bubbles, driven by a tilted alternating magnetic field. The tilted alternating magnetic field induces asymmetric expansion and shrinkage of the magnetic bubbles under the influence of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, resulting in continuous shift of the bubbles in time. By realizing the magnetic bubblecade in PtCoPt films, we find that the bubblecade speed is sensitive to the tilt angle with a maximum at an angle, which can be explained well by a simple analytical form within the context of the domain-wall creep theory. A simplified analytic formula for the angle for maximum speed is then given as a function of the amplitude of the alternating magnetic field. The present observation provides a practical design rule for memory and logic devices based on the magnetic bubblecade. △ Less

Direct Estimation of Information Divergence Using Nearest Neighbor Ratios

Abstract: We propose a direct estimation method for Rényi and f-divergence measures based on a new graph theoretical interpretation. Suppose that we are given two sample sets $X$ and $Y$, respectively with $N$ and $M$ samples, where $η:=M/N$ is a constant value. Considering the $k$-nearest neighbor ($k$-NN) graph of $Y$ in the joint data set $(X,Y)$, we show that the average powered ratio of the number of… ▽ More We propose a direct estimation method for Rényi and f-divergence measures based on a new graph theoretical interpretation. Considering the $k$-nearest neighbor ($k$-NN) graph of $Y$ in the joint data set $(X,Y)$, we show that the average powered ratio of the number of $X$ points to the number of $Y$ points among all $k$-NN points is proportional to Rényi divergence of $X$ and $Y$ densities. A similar method can also be used to estimate f-divergence measures. We derive bias and variance rates, and show that for the class of $γ$-Hölder smooth functions, the estimator achieves the MSE rate of $O(N^{-2γ/(γ+d)})$. Furthermore, by using a weighted ensemble estimation technique, for density functions with continuous and bounded derivatives of up to the order $d$, and some extra conditions at the support set boundary, we derive an ensemble estimator that achieves the parametric MSE rate of $O(1/N)$. Our estimators are more computationally tractable than other competing estimators, which makes them appealing in many practical applications. △ Less

Abstract: We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to hν\overlineν$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:π^+,\:π^0,\:ρ^+$ and $ρ^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson b… ▽ More We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to hν\overlineν$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:π^+,\:π^0,\:ρ^+$ and $ρ^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson but nothing else on the signal side. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions. The limits set on the $B\to K^0_{\mathrm{S}}ν\overlineν$, $B^0\to K^{*0}ν\overlineν$, $B\to π^+ν\overlineν$, $B^0\toπ^0ν\overlineν$, $B^+\toρ^+ν\overlineν$, and $B^0\toρ^0ν\overlineν$ channels are the world's most stringent. △ Less

We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages. △ Less

Ensemble Estimation of Generalized Mutual Information with Applications to Genomics

Generalized mutual information measures that go beyond classical Shannon mutual information have also received much interest in these applications. We derive the mean squared error convergence rates of kernel density-based plug-in estimators of general m… ▽ More Mutual information is a measure of the dependence between random variables that has been used successfully in myriad applications in many fields. Generalized mutual information measures that go beyond classical Shannon mutual information have also received much interest in these applications. We derive the mean squared error convergence rates of kernel density-based plug-in estimators of general mutual information measures between two multidimensional random variables $\mathbf{X}$ and $\mathbf{Y}$ for two cases: 1) $\mathbf{X}$ and $\mathbf{Y}$ are continuous; 2) $\mathbf{X}$ and $\mathbf{Y}$ may have any mixture of discrete and continuous components. Using the derived rates, we propose an ensemble estimator of these information measures called GENIE by taking a weighted sum of the plug-in estimators with varied bandwidths. The resulting ensemble estimators achieve the $1/N$ parametric mean squared error convergence rate when the conditional densities of the continuous variables are sufficiently smooth. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first nonparametric mutual information estimator known to achieve the parametric convergence rate for the mixture case, which frequently arises in applications (e.g. variable selection in classification). The estimator is simple to implement and it uses the solution to an offline convex optimization problem and simple plug-in estimators. A central limit theorem is also derived for the ensemble estimators and minimax rates are derived for the continuous case. We demonstrate the ensemble estimator for the mixed case on simulated data and apply the proposed estimator to analyze gene relationships in single cell data. △ Less

Abstract: We use multi-band imagery data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to measure projected distances of 302 supernova type Ia (SNIa) from the centre of their host galaxies, normalized to the galaxy's brightness scale length, with a Bayesian approach. We test the hypothesis that SNIas further away from the centre of their host galaxy are less subject to dust contamination (as the dust column dens… ▽ More We use multi-band imagery data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to measure projected distances of 302 supernova type Ia (SNIa) from the centre of their host galaxies, normalized to the galaxy's brightness scale length, with a Bayesian approach. We test the hypothesis that SNIas further away from the centre of their host galaxy are less subject to dust contamination (as the dust column density in their environment is smaller) and/or come from a more homogeneous environment. Using the Mann-Whitney U test, we find a statistically significant difference in the observed colour correction distribution between SNIas that are near and those that are far from the centre of their host. The local p-value is 3 x 10^{-3}, which is significant at the 5 per cent level after look-elsewhere effect correction. We estimate the residual scatter of the two subgroups to be 0.073 +/- 0.018 for the far SNIas, compared to 0.114 +/- 0.009 for the near SNIas -- an improvement of 30 per cent, albeit with a low statistical significance of 2sigma. This confirms the importance of host galaxy properties in correctly interpreting SNIa observations for cosmological inference. △ Less

If these dependencies are assumed to follow a Markov factor graph model, this exploration process is called structure discovery. For discrete-valued samples, estimates of the information divergence over the parametric class of multinomial models lead to structure discovery methods whose mean squared error achieves parametric convergence rates as the sample size grows. However, a naive application of this method to continuous nonparametric multivariate models converges much more slowly. In this paper we introduce a new method for nonparametric structure discovery that uses weighted ensemble divergence estimators that achieve parametric convergence rates and obey an asymptotic central limit theorem that facilitates hypothesis testing and other types of statistical validation. △ Less

Muckenhoupt-Wheeden conjectures for sparse operators

Abstract: We provide an example of a pair of weights $(u,v)$ for which the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function is bounded from $L^p(v)$ to $L^p(u)$ and from $L^{p'}(u^{1-p'})$ to $L^{p'}(v^{1-p'})$ while a dyadic sparse operator is not bounded on the same domain and range. Our construction also provides an example of a single weight for which the weak-type endpoint does not hold for sparse operators. We provide an example of a pair of weights $(u,v)$ for which the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function is bounded from $L^p(v)$ to $L^p(u)$ and from $L^{p'}(u^{1-p'})$ to $L^{p'}(v^{1-p'})$ while a dyadic sparse operator is not bounded on the same domain and range. Extrapolation in the scale of generalized reverse Hölder weights

Abstract: We develop a theory of extrapolation for weights that satisfy a generalized reverse Hölder inequality in the scale of Orlicz spaces. This extends previous results by Auscher and Martell [2] on limited range extrapolation. As an application, we show that a number of weighted norm inequalities for linear and bilinear operators can be proved using our extrapolation theorem. First observation of $γγ\to p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and search for exotic baryons in $pK$ systems

Abstract: The process $γγ\to p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and its intermediate processes are measured for the first time using a 980~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The production of $p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ and a $Λ(1520)^0~(\barΛ(1520)^0)$ signal in the $pK^-$~($\bar{p} K^+$) invariant mass spectrum are clearly observed. However, no evidence for an exotic baryon near 1540~MeV/$c^2$, denoted as $Θ(1540)^0$~($\barΘ~(1540)^0$) or $Θ(1540)^{++}$~($Θ(1540)^{--}$), is seen in the $p K^-$~($\bar{p}K^+$) or $pK^+$~($\bar{p} K^-$) invariant mass spectra. Cross sections for $γγ\to p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$, $Λ(1520)^0 \bar{p} K^+ +c.c.$ and the products $σ(γγ\to Θ(1540)^0 \bar{p} K^+ +c.c.)\BR(Θ(1540)^0 \to p K^{-})$ and $σ(γγ\to Θ(1540)^{++} \bar{p} K^- +c.c.)\BR(Θ(1540)^{++}\to p K^{+})$ are measured. We also determine upper limits on the products of the $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c2}$ two-photon decay widths and their branching fractions to $p \bar{p} K^+ K^-$ at the 90\% credibility level. △ Less
