The confined helium atom; an Informational approach
Abstract: In this work we study the helium atom confined in a spherical impenetrable cavity by using informational entropies. We use the variational method to obtain the energies and wave functions of the confined helium atom as a function of the cavity radius $r_0$. As trial wave functions we use one uncorrelated function and four functions with different degrees of electronic correlation. We computed the… ▽ More

Statement from the American Linear Collider Committee to the P5 subpanel
Abstract: This statement from the American Linear Collider Committee to the P5 subpanel has three purposes. It presents a brief summary of the case for an $e^+e^-$ Higgs factory that has emerged from Snowmass 2021. It highlights the special virtues of the ILC that are shared with other linear colliders but not with circular colliders. Finally, it calls attention to the resources available in the ILC White P… ▽ More

Motivation for Two Detectors at a Particle Physics Collider
Abstract: It is generally accepted that it is preferable to build two general purpose detectors at any given collider facility. We reinforce this point by discussing a number of aspects and particular instances in which this has been important. The examples are taken mainly, but not exclusively, from experience at the Tevatron collider.

The International Linear Collider: Report to Snowmass 2021
Abstract: The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This docu… ▽ More

The Jefferson Lab 12 GeV Program
Abstract: The Jefferson Lab facilities have undergone a substantial upgrade, both of accelerator, CEBAF, and of the experimental installations. We will discuss the progress to completion of these facilities, the status of accelerator commissioning, and the recent first operations for physics. We will then flesh out the anticipated exciting physics program of the next several years.

Combination of CDF and D0 W-Boson Mass Measurements
Abstract: We summarize and combine direct measurements of the mass of the $W$ boson in $\sqrt{s} = 1.96 \text{TeV}$ proton-antiproton collision data collected by CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Earlier measurements from CDF and D0 are combined with the two latest, more precise measurements: a CDF measurement in the electron and muon channels using data corresponding to… ▽ More

H2+ embedded in a Debye plasma: Electronic and vibrational properties
Abstract: The effect of plasma screening on the electronic and vibrational properties of the H2+ molecular ion was analyzed within the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. When a molecule is embedded in a plasma, the plasma screens the electrostatic interactions. This screening is accounted for in the Schrödinger equation by replacing the Coulomb potentials with Yukawa potentials that incorporate the Debye lengt… ▽ More

Electron correlation energy in confined two-electron systems
Abstract: Radial, angular and total correlation energies are calculated for four two-electron systems with atomic numbers Z=0-3 confined within an impenetrable sphere of radius R. We report accurate results for the non-relativistic, restricted Hartree-Fock and radial limit energies over a range of confinement radii from 0.05 - 10 a0. At small R, the correlation energies approach limiting values that are ind… ▽ More

Lower Bound for LMC complexity measure
Abstract: Lower bound for the shape complexity measure of López-Ruiz-Mancini-Calbet (LMC), $C_{LMC}$, is derived. Analytical relations for simple examples of the harmonic oscillator, the hydrogen atom and two-electron 'entangled artificial' atom proposed by Moshinsky are derived. Several numerical examples of the spherically confined model systems are presented as the test cases. For the homogeneous pot… ▽ More

Exact solutions for the D-dimensional spherical isotropic confined harmonic oscillator
Abstract: We study the size effect on the energy levels of the D-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator confined within a box of radius $r_c$ with impenetrable walls. Two different approaches are used to obtain the energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for D=1,2,...,5. In the first we solve the Schroedinger equation exactly. In the second we use a series expansion of the wave function. The numerical re… ▽ More

XXXVIIiéme Rencontres de Moriond: Electroweak 2002 Conference Summary
Abstract: A substantial body of data is described by the Standard Model of particle physics. However the description is far from perfect and there is a growing number of internal inconsistencies. These fall short of qualifying as discoveries; nevertheless, examination of their merits is both interesting and worthwhile. The existence of three families of quarks and leptons is not understood. There are new… ▽ More
