Time series classification is of significant importance in monitoring structural systems. In this work, we investigate the use of supervised machine learning classification algorithms on simulated data based on a physical system with two states: Intact and Broken. We provide a comprehensive discussion of the preprocessing of temporal data, using measures of statistical dispersion and dimension reduction techniques. We present an intuitive baseline method and discuss its efficiency. We conclude with a comparison of the various methods based on different performance metrics, showing the advantage of using machine learning techniques as a tool in decision making.

Gene mining is an important topic in the field of life sciences, but traditional machine learning methods cannot consider the regulatory relationships between genes. Deep learning methods perform poorly in small sample sizes. This study proposed a deep learning method, called TransGeneSelector, that can mine critical regulatory genes involved in certain life processes using a small-sample transcriptome dataset. The method combines a WGAN-GP data augmentation network, a sample filtering network, and a Transformer classifier network, which successfully classified the state (germinating or dry seeds) of Arabidopsis thaliana seed in a dataset of 79 samples, showing performance comparable to that of Random Forests. Further, through the use of SHapley Additive exPlanations method, TransGeneSelector successfully mined genes involved in seed germination. Through the construction of gene regulatory networks and the enrichment analysis of KEGG, as well as RT-qPCR quantitative analysis, it was confirmed that these genes are at a more upstream regulatory level than those Random Forests mined, and the top 11 genes that were uniquely mined by TransGeneSelector were found to be related to the KAI2 signaling pathway, which is of great regulatory importance for germination-related genes. This study provides a practical tool for life science researchers to mine key genes from transcriptome data.

DeePMD-kit is a powerful open-source software package that facilitates molecular dynamics simulations using machine learning potentials (MLP) known as Deep Potential (DP) models. This package, which was released in 2017, has been widely used in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and material science for studying atomistic systems. The current version of DeePMD-kit offers numerous advanced features such as DeepPot-SE, attention-based and hybrid descriptors, the ability to fit tensile properties, type embedding, model deviation, Deep Potential - Range Correction (DPRc), Deep Potential Long Range (DPLR), GPU support for customized operators, model compression, non-von Neumann molecular dynamics (NVNMD), and improved usability, including documentation, compiled binary packages, graphical user interfaces (GUI), and application programming interfaces (API). This article presents an overview of the current major version of the DeePMD-kit package, highlighting its features and technical details. Additionally, the article benchmarks the accuracy and efficiency of different models and discusses ongoing developments.

This paper proposes a special-purpose system to achieve high-accuracy and high-efficiency machine learning (ML) molecular dynamics (MD) calculations. The system consists of field programmable gate array (FPGA) and application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) working in heterogeneous parallelization. To be specific, a multiplication-less neural network (NN) is deployed on the non-von Neumann (NvN)-based ASIC (SilTerra 180 nm process) to evaluate atomic forces, which is the most computationally expensive part of MD. All other calculations of MD are done using FPGA (Xilinx XC7Z100). It is shown that, to achieve similar-level accuracy, the proposed NvN-based system based on low-end fabrication technologies (180 nm) is 1.6x faster and 10^2-10^3x more energy efficiency than state-of-the-art vN based MLMD using graphics processing units (GPUs) based on much more advanced technologies (12 nm), indicating superiority of the proposed NvN-based heterogeneous parallel architecture.

Multifunction radars (MFR) are met with complex capability requirements, involving various kinds of targets and saturating scenarios. In order to achieve these goals, radar systems use Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) to switch between their functions. This complexity makes it difficult to assess their performance both taking into account their functional requirements and the induces cost. In this paper, we first introduce Figures of Merit for phased array radar operation and performance. We compute these metrics on a set of test scenarios of varying complexity, involving different kinds of targets, and we aggregate them into a global notation of MFR radar performances. To achieve our purpose, we rely on the domain of Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), and more precisely 2-additive Choquet integral.
