Current Status of the Standard Model Prediction for the B_s -> mu^+ mu^- Branching Ratio
Abstract: The rare decay B_s -> mu^+ mu^- provides an important constraint on possible deviations from the Standard Model in b-s-l-l interactions. The present weighted average of its branching ratio measurements amounts to (3.34 \pm 0.27) x 10^-9, which remains in good agreement with the theoretical prediction of (3.64 \pm 0.12) x 10^-9 within the Standard Model. The mechanisms behind extreme susceptibility of photon avalanche emission to quenching
Abstract: The photon avalanche (PA) process that emerges in lanthanide-doped crystals yields a threshold and highly nonlinear (of the power law order > 5) optical response to photoexcitation. PA emission is the outcome of excited-state absorption combined with a cross-relaxation process, which creates positive and efficient energy loo**. Abstract: The flavor-changing electromagnetic dipole operator O_7 gives the dominant contribution to the B -> Xs gamma decay rate. We calculate two-loop QCD corrections to its matrix element together with the corresponding bremsstrahlung contributions. The optical theorem is applied, and the relevant imaginary parts of three-loop diagrams are computed following the lines of our recent t -> Xb W calculation.… ▽ More

Three-Loop Mixing of Dipole Operators
Abstract: We calculate the complete three-loop O(alpha_s^3) anomalous dimension matrix for the dimension-five dipole operators that arise in the Standard Model after integrating out the top quark and the heavy electroweak bosons. Our computation completes the three-loop anomalous dimension matrix of operators that govern low-energy |Delta F| = 1 flavor-changing processes, and represents an important ingre… ▽ More

Determining the sign of the b -> s gamma amplitude
Abstract: The latest Belle and BaBar measurements of the inclusive B -> X_s l^+ l^- branching ratio have smaller errors and lower central values than the previous ones. We point out that these results indicate that the sign of the b -> s gamma amplitude is the same as in the SM. This underscores the importance of B -> X_s l^+ l^- in searches for new physics, and may be relevant for neutralino dark matter… ▽ More

Three-loop matching of the dipole operators for b -> s gamma and b -> s g
Abstract: We evaluate the three-loop matching conditions for the dimension-five operators that are relevant for the b -> s gamma decay. Our calculation completes the first out of three steps (matching, mixing and matrix elements) that are necessary for finding the next-to-next-to-leading QCD corrections to this process. All such corrections must be calculated in view of the ongoing accurate measurements o… ▽ More

B -> X_s gamma after completion of the NLO QCD calculations
Abstract: Several years ago, Stefan Pokorski, Manfred Muenz and us outlined a program for calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the weak radiative B meson decay B -> X_s gamma. Very recently, just before the 60th birthday of Stefan Pokorski, this program has been formally completed. In the present paper, we summarize the existing results and discuss perspectives for further improvement of the accuracy… ▽ More

Completing the NLO QCD calculation of B -> Xs gamma
Abstract: We evaluate two-loop b -> s gamma matrix elements of all the four-quark operators containing no derivatives. Contrary to previous calculations, no expansion in the mass ratio mc/mb is performed, and all the possible Dirac and flavor structures are included. Consequently, we are able to provide the last item in the NLO analysis of B -> Xs gamma that has been missing so far, namely the two-loop ma… ▽ More

Two-time synchronism and induced synchronization
Abstract: A pair (A,B) of interacting oscillators treated as a master system sending signals to its slave copy (a,b) through two communication channels A-->a and B-->b is considered. The effect of non-simultaneous (two-time) synchronization of the pairs (a,A) and (b,B) is demonstrated with the help of coupled Kerr oscillators producing hyperchaos. An individual pair, for example, (b,B) can also be synchro… ▽ More

Radiative B Decay in the SM
Abstract: The experimental and theoretical status of the inclusive decay B -> X_s gamma is briefly summarized. Results from a very recent theoretical analysis are reported. An ~11% increase in the SM prediction for BR[ B -> X_s gamma] is found after replacing m_c^pole/m_b^pole by m_c(mu)/m_b^1S in the NLO QCD correction. The well-known enhancement of the branching ratio by QCD logarithms is identified as… ▽ More

Two-Loop Matrix Element of the Current-Current Operator in the Decay B -> X_s gamma
Abstract: We evaluate the important two-loop matrix element <s gamma| Q_2 | b> of the operator (cbar gamma^mu P_L b) (sbar gamma_mu P_L b) contributing to the inclusive radiative decay B -> X_s gamma. The calculation is performed in the NDR scheme, by means of asymptotic expansions method. The result is given as a series in z = m_c^2/m_b^2 up to O(z^6). We confirm the result of Greub, Hurth and Wyler obta… ▽ More

Quark mass effects in B -> Xs gamma
Abstract: The charm-loop contribution to B -> Xs gamma is found to be numerically dominant and very stable under logarithmic QCD corrections. The strong enhancement of the branching ratio by QCD logarithms is mainly due to the b-quark mass evolution in the top-quark sector. These observations allow us to achieve better control over residual scale dependence at the next-to-leading order. Furthermore, we ob… ▽ More
