Dynamics of helical vortex filaments in non viscous incompressible flows
Abstract: In this paper we study concentrated solutions of the three-dimensional Euler equations in helical symmetry without swirl. We prove that any helical vorticity solution initially concentrated around helices of pairwise distinct radii remains concentrated close to filaments. As suggested by the vortex filament conjecture, we prove that those filaments are translating and rotating helices. Similarly t… ▽ More

Dynamics of several point vortices for the lake equations
Abstract: The global asymptotic dynamics of point vortices for the lake equations is rigorously derived. Vorticity that is initially sharply concentrated around $N$ distinct vortex centers is proven to remain concentrated for all times. Specifically, we prove weak concentration of the vorticity and in addition strong concentration in the direction of the steepest ascent of the depth function. As a consequen… ▽ More

Lake equations with an evanescent or emergent island
Abstract: We study the asymptotic dynamics of the lake equations in the following two cases, an island shrinking to a point and an emerging island. For both cases, we derive an asymptotic lake-type equation. In the former case, the asymptotic dynamics includes an additional Dirac mass in the vorticity. The main mathematical difficulty is that the equations are singular when the water depth vanishes. We prov… ▽ More

On solutions of the transport equation in the presence of singularities
Abstract: We consider the transport equation on $[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n$ in the situation where the vector field is $BV$ off a set $S\subset [0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^n$. We demonstrate that solutions exist and are unique provided that the set of singularities has a sufficiently small anisotropic fractal dimension and the normal component of the vector field is sufficiently integrable near the singularities.… ▽ More

The vortex-wave system with gyroscopic effects
Abstract: In this paper, we study the well-posedness for a coupled PDE/ODE system describing the interaction of several massive point vortices moving within a vorticity backgound in a 2D ideal incompressible fluid. The points are driven by the velocity induced by the background vorticity, by the other vortices, and by a Kutta-Joukowski-type lift force creating an additional gyroscopic effect. Uniqueness of the solution to the 2D Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system
Abstract: We prove a uniqueness result for weak solutions to the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system in two dimensions, both in the whole space and in the periodic case, under a mild decay condition on the initial distribution function. The main result is achieved by combining methods from optimal transportation (introduced in this context by G. Loeper) with the use of Hardy's maximal function, in order to obtain s… ▽ More

The gyrokinetic limit for the Vlasov-Poisson system with a point charge
Abstract: We consider the asymptotics of large external magnetic field for a 2D Vlasov-Poisson system governing the evolution of a bounded density interacting with a point charge. In a suitable asymptotical regime, we show that the solution converges to a measure-valued solution of the Euler equation with a defect measure.

Uniqueness and stability for the Vlasov-Poisson system with spatial density in Orlicz spaces
Abstract: In this paper, we establish uniqueness of the solution of the Vlasov-Poisson system with spatial density belonging to a certain class of Orlicz spaces. This extends the uniqueness result of Loeper (which holds for uniformly bounded density) and the uniqueness result of the second author. Uniqueness is a direct consequence of our main result, which provides a quantitative stability estimate for the… ▽ More

Abstract: We prove uniqueness for the Vlasov-Poisson system in two and three dimensions under the condition that the $L^p$ norms of the macroscopic density growth at most linearly with respect to $p$. This allows for solutions with logarithmic singularities. We provide explicit examples of initial data that fulfill the uniqueness condition and that exhibit a logarithmic blow-up. Abstract: We consider an asymptotic regime for two-dimensional ferromagnetic films that is consistent with the formation of transition layers (Néel walls). We first establish compactness of S2-valued magnetizations in the energetic regime of Néel walls and characterize the set of accumulation points. We then prove that Néel walls are asymptotically the unique energy minimizing configurations. We finally stu… ▽ More

Polynomial propagation of moments and global existence for a Vlasov-Poisson system with a point charge
Abstract: In this paper, we extend to the case of initial data constituted of a Dirac mass plus a bounded density (with finite moments) the theory of Lions and Perthame [6] for the Vlasov-Poisson equation. Our techniques also provide polynomially growing in time estimates for moments of the bounded density.

Uniqueness for the 2-D Euler equations on domains with corners
Abstract: For a large class of non smooth bounded domains, existence of a global weak solution of the 2D Euler equations, with bounded vorticity, was established by Gérard-Varet and Lacave. In the case of sharp domains, the question of uniqueness for such weak solutions is more involved due to the bad behavior of $Δ^{-1}$ close to the boundary. In the present work, we show uniqueness for any bounded and sim… ▽ More

Flows of vector fields with point singularities and the vortex-wave system
Abstract: The vortex-wave system is a model for the evolution of 2D incompressible fluids in which the vorticity is split into a finite sum of Dirac masses plus an Lp part. Existence of a weak solution for this system was recently proved by Lopes Filho, Miot and Nussenzveig Lopes, for p > 2, but their result left open the existence and basic properties of the underlying Lagrangian flow. On the attractive plasma-charge system in 2-d
Abstract: We study a positively charged Vlasov-Poisson plasma in which N negative point charges are immersed. The attractiveness of the system forces us to consider a possibly unbounded plasma density near the charges. We prove the existence of a global in time solution, assuming a suitable initial distribution of the velocities of the plasma particles. Uniqueness remains unsolved.
