High-resolution hypernuclear spectroscopy at Jefferson Lab, Hall A
Abstract: The experiment E94-107 in Hall A at Jefferson Lab started a systematic study of high resolution hypernuclear spectroscopy in the 0p-shell region of nuclei such as the hypernuclei produced in electroproduction on 9Be, 12C and 16O targets. In order to increase counting rates and provide unambiguous kaon identification two superconducting septum magnets and a ring-imaging Cherenkov detector were adde… ▽ More

The experiments with the High Resolution Kaon Spectrometer at JLab Hall C and the new spectroscopy of ${}^{12}_Λ\text{B}$ hypernuclei
Abstract: Since the pioneering experiment, E89-009 studying hypernuclear spectroscopy using the $(e,e^{\prime}K^+)$ reaction was completed, two additional experiments, E01-011 and E05-115, were performed at Jefferson Lab. These later experiments used a modified experimental design, the "tilt method", to dramatically suppress the large electromagnetic background, and allowed for a substantial increase in lum… ▽ More

Spectroscopy of Lambda-9Li by electroproduction
Abstract: In the absence of accurate data on the free two-body hyperon-nucleon interaction, the spectra of hypernuclei can provide information on the details of the effective hyperon-nucleon interaction. Electroproduction of the hypernucleus Lambda-9Li has been studied for the first time with sub-MeV energy resolution in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a 9Be target. In order to increase the counting rate and to… ▽ More

Shell-model calculations for p-shell hypernuclei
Abstract: The interpretation of hypernuclear gamma-ray data for p-shell hypernuclei in terms of shell-model calculations that include the coupling of Lambda- and Sigma-hypernuclear states is briefly reviewed. Next, Lambda 8Li, Lambda 8Be, and Lambda 9Li are considered, both to exhibit features of Lambda-Sigma coupling and as possible source of observed, but unassigned, hypernuclear gamma rays. Then, the fea… ▽ More

Consistency of Lambda-Lambda hypernuclear events
Abstract: Highlights of Lambda-Lambda emulsion events are briefly reviewed. Given three accepted events, shell-model predictions based on p-shell Lambda hypernuclear spectroscopic studies are shown to reproduce the Lambda-Lambda (LL) binding energies of LL10Be and LL13B in terms of the LL binding energy of LL6He. Predictions for other species offer judgement on several alternative assignments of the LL13B K… ▽ More

Shell-model predictions for double-Lambda hypernuclei
Abstract: It is shown how the recent shell-model determination of Lambda-N spin dependent interaction terms in Lambda hypernuclei allows for a reliable deduction of Lambda-Lambda separation energies in Lambda-Lambda hypernuclei across the nuclear p shell. Comparison is made with the available data, highlighting 11(Lambda-Lambda)Be and 12(Lambda-Lambda)Be which have been suggested as possible candidates for… ▽ More

Structure of p-shell hypernuclei
Abstract: Shell-model calculations that include both Lambda and Sigma configurations with p-shell cores are used to interpret gamma-ray transitions in Lambda-7Li, -9Be, -10B, -11B, -12C, -15N, and -16O observed with the Hyperball array of Ge detectors. Comment on "Five-Body Cluster Structure of the Double-Lambda Hypernucleus Lambda-Lambda-11Be"
Abstract: Hiyama et al. [PRL 104 (2010) 212502] have recently reported on a pioneering five-body alpha-alpha-n-Lambda-Lambda cluster-model calculation of Lambda-Lambda-11Be in order to confront a possible interpretation of the KEK-E373 HIDA event. Unfortunately, a six-body alpha-alpha-n-n-Lambda-Lambda calculation of Lambda-Lambda-12Be to confront another possible interpretation is beyond reach at present.… ▽ More

High Resolution Spectroscopy of 16N_Lambda by Electroproduction
Abstract: An experimental study of the 16O(e,e'K^+)16N_Lambda reaction has been performed at Jefferson Lab. A thin film of falling water was used as a target. This permitted a simultaneous measurement of the p(e,e'K^+)Lambda,Sigma_0 exclusive reactions and a precise calibration of the energy scale. A ground-state binding energy of 13.76 +/- 0.16 MeV was obtained for 16N_Lambda with better precision than p… ▽ More

The scientific heritage of Richard Henry Dalitz, FRS (1925-2006)
Abstract: Professor Richard H. Dalitz passed away on January 13, 2006. He was almost 81 years old and his outstanding contributions are intimately connected to some of the major breakthroughs of the 20th century in particle and nuclear physics. These outstanding contributions go beyond the Dalitz Plot, Dalitz Pair and CDD poles that bear his name. He pioneered the theoretical study of strange baryon resonan… ▽ More

Resonant State in Helium-4 Lambda
Abstract: In a recent experiment E906 at the BNL-AGS, a search for light S=-2 hypernuclei, strong evidence was found for the nuclide Hydrogen-4 double Lambda. One of the most striking components of this data was the appearance of a narrow low-momentum pi- line at k(pi-) = 104-105 MeV/c. This was ascribed to the decay of Hydrogen-4 double Lambda into a resonant state in Helium-4 Lambda. The existence of su… ▽ More

First-forbidden beta decay of 17N and 17Ne
Abstract: It is shown that differences, due to charge-dependent effects, in the 17N and 17Ne ground-state wave functions account for the fact that the experimentally measured branch for the beta+ decay of 17Ne to the first excited state of 17F is roughly a factor of two larger than expected on the basis of nuclear matrix elements which reproduce the corresponding beta- branch in the decay of 17N.

Study of continuum nuclear structure of 12C via (p,p'X) at intermediate energies
Abstract: The inclusive 12C(p,p') and exclusive 12C(p,p'X) reactions have been studied with a beam energy of 156 MeV and for X = p and alpha. The study focuses on the (p,p'X) reaction mechanism and on the structure of 12C just above the particle-emission threshold, 14 < E_x < 28 MeV. Cross sections were simultaneously measured for all three reactions. The exclusive data were analyzed by making multiple-pe… ▽ More

Widths of $Ξ$ Hypernuclear States
Abstract: The $Λ$ and neutron decay widths of $Ξ$ hypernuclear states, based on calculated $ΞN \to \lala$ mixing amplitudes, are estimated. The widths which result from using the Nijmegen Model D interaction are sufficiently small, of order 1.5 MeV, that experiments to observe $Ξ$ hypernuclear states using the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction may be feasible.
