Deducing correlation parameters from optical conductivity in the Bechgaard salts
Abstract: Numerical calculations of the kinetic energy of various extensions of the one-dimensional Hubbard model including dimerization and repulsion between nearest neighbours are reported. Using the sum rule that relates the kinetic energy to the integral of the optical conductivity, one can determine which parameters are consistent with the reduction of the infrared oscillator strength that has been obs… ▽ More

Susceptibility of the one-dimensional, dimerized Hubbard model
Abstract: We show that the zero temperature susceptibility of the one-dimensional, dimerized Hubbard model at quarter-filling can be accurately determined on the basis of exact diagonalization of small clusters. The best procedure is to perform a finite-size scaling of the spin velocity $u_σ$, and to calculate the susceptibility from the Luttinger liquid relation $χ=2/πu_σ$. We show that these results are r… ▽ More

Spectral function of the 1D Hubbard model in the $U\to +\infty $ limit
Abstract: We show that the one-particle spectral functions of the one-dimensional Hubbard model diverge at the Fermi energy like $|ω-\varepsilon_F|^{-3/8}$ in the $U\to +\infty $ limit. The Luttinger liquid behaviour $|ω-\varepsilon_F|^α$, where $α\to 1/8$ as $U\to +\infty $, should be limited to $|ω-\varepsilon_F| \sim t^2/U$ (for $U$ large but finite), which shrinks to a single point, $ω=\varepsilon_F$,… ▽ More

Charge gap in the one--dimensional dimerized Hubbard model at quarter-filling
Abstract: We propose a quantitative estimate of the charge gap that opens in the one-dimensional dimerized Hubbard model at quarter-filling due to dimerization, which makes the system effectively half--filled, and to repulsion, which induces umklapp scattering processes. Our estimate is expected to be valid for any value of the repulsion and of the parameter describing the dimerization. It is based on ana… ▽ More

Exact result on the Mott transition in a two-dimensional model of strongly correlated electrons
Abstract: We study the properties of a quarter-filled system of electrons on a square lattice interacting through a local repulsion $U$ and a nearest-neighbour repulsion $V$ in the limit $V=+\infty$. We identify the ground-state for $U$ large enough and show that domain walls appear below a critical value $U_c=4t/π$. We argue that this corresponds to a metal-insulator transition due to Mott localization.

Phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with attractive and/or repulsive interactions at quarter filling
Abstract: We study the phase diagram of the one dimensional (1D) $U-V$ model at quarter filling in the most general case where the on-site and first-neighbour interactions $U$ and $V$ can be both attractive and repulsive. The results have been obtained using exact diagonalization of small clusters and variational techniques, as well as exact results in various limits. We have analyzed four properties of t… ▽ More

Phase diagram of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model at quarter filling
Abstract: We used exact diagonalization of small clusters and exact results in various limits to determine the phase diagram and the critical exponents of the one dimensional (1D) $U-V$ model at quarter-filling. We found an instability of the Luttinger liquid to a charge-density wave (CDW) insulator across a boundary going from ($U$,$V$) =($+\infty$,$2t$) to ($4t$,$+\infty$). In the metallic phase, the do… ▽ More

Poisson versus GOE statistics in integrable and non-integrable quantum hamiltonian
Abstract: We calculate the level statistics by finding the eigenvalue spectrum for a variety of one-dimensional many-body models, namely the Heisenberg chain, the t-J model and the Hubbard model. In each case the generic behaviour is GOE, however at points corresponding to models known to be exactly integrable Poisson statistics are found, in agreement with an argument we outline.
