Casimir energy between two parallel plates and projective representation of Poincaré group
Abstract: The Casimir effect is a physical manifestation of zero point energy of quantum vacuum. In a relativistic quantum field theory, Poincaré symmetry of the theory seems, at first sight, to imply that non-zero vacuum energy is inconsistent with translational invariance of the vacuum. In the setting of two uniform boundary plates at rest, quantum fields outside the plates have (1+2)-dimensional Poincaré… ▽ More

Quark CP-Phase and Froggatt-Nielsen Mechanism
Abstract: On the basis of the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism, we study quark flavor mixings in the $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ model. The characteristic structure of the CKM matrix is attributed to the hierarchical effective Yukawa couplings due to the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism and also to the state-mixings beyond the MSSM. We elucidate the detailed form of the CKM matrix elements and find interesting relations bet… ▽ More

Quantization of hypercharge in gauge groups locally isomorphic but globally nonisomorphic to SU(3)_c X SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y
Abstract: In the Standard Model the hypercharges of quarks and leptons are not determined by the gauge group itself. In a recent paper [C. Hattori et al. Phys. Rev. D83, 015009 (2011)] it is shown that, if the direct product gauge group G_SM is slightly modified to the semidirect product group G'_SM, hypercharges are restricted to quantized values as n/6 mod Z (n = 0,1,3,4). In this brief paper, we examine… ▽ More

Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata matrix and Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism
Abstract: Flavor mixings together with fermion mass spectra are studied in detail in the $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ model, in which state-mixings beyond the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) take place. Characteristic patterns of fermion spectra are attributed to the hierarchical structure of effective Yukawa interactions via the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism and also to the state-mixings beyond the MSS… ▽ More

Semidirect product gauge group $[SU(3)_{\rm c} \times SU(2)_{\rm L}]\rtimes U(1)_{\rm Y}$ and quantization of hypercharge
Abstract: In the Standard Model the hypercharges of quarks and leptons are not determined by the gauge group $SU(3)_{\rm c} \times SU(2)_{\rm L} \times U(1)_{\rm Y}$ alone. We show that, if we choose the semidirect product group $[SU(3)_{\rm c} \times SU(2)_{\rm L}] \rtimes U(1)_{\rm Y}$ as its gauge group, the hyperchages are settled to be $n/6 \mod {\mathbb{Z}}\;(n = 0,1,3,4) $. $SU(3)_{\rm L} \rtimes (\mathbb{Z}_3 \times \mathbb{Z}_3)$ gauge symmetry and Tri-bimaximal mixing
Abstract: We study an effective gauge theory whose gauge group is a semidirect product $G = G_c \rtimes \mathitΓ$ with $G_c$ and $\mathitΓ$ being a connected Lie group and a finite group, respectively. The semidirect product is defined through a projective homomorphism $γ$ (i.e., homomorphism up to the center of $G_c$) from $\mathitΓ$ into $G_c$. The (linear) representation of $G$ is made from $γ$ and a p… ▽ More

Statistical quantum operation
Abstract: A generic unital positive operator-valued measure (POVM), which transforms a given stationary pure state to an arbitrary statistical state with perfect decoherence, is presented. This allows one to operationally realize thermalization as a special case. The loss of information due to randomness generated by the operation is discussed by evaluating the entropy. Thermalization of the bipartite spi… ▽ More

Flavor Symmetry and Galois Group of Elliptic Curves
Abstract: A new approach to the generation structure of fermions is proposed. We consider a brane configuration in which the brane intersection yields a two-torus in the extra space. It is assumed that the two-torus is discretized and is given by the torsion points of the elliptic curve over Q . We direct our attention to the arithmetic structure of the elliptic curve with complex multiplication (CM). In… ▽ More

Galois Group of Elliptic Curves and Flavor Symmetry
Abstract: Putting emphasis on the relation between rational conformal field theory (RCFT) and algebraic number theory, we consider a brane configuration in which the D-brane intersection is an elliptic curve corresponding to RCFT. A new approach to the generation structure of fermions is proposed in which the flavor symmetry including the R-parity has its origin in the Galois group on elliptic curves with… ▽ More

'TeV Gamma-ray Crisis' and an Anisotropic Space Model
Abstract: To solve the `TeV gamma crisis', we examine a model whose one spatial direction is discretized at a high energy scale. Assuming the standard extra-galactic IR photon distribution, we evaluate the mean free-path of a energetic photon which acquires an effective mass in the model. For a wide range of the value of the lattice energy scale between a few TeV and around $10^{10}$ GeV, the mean free-pa… ▽ More

4D equivalence theorem and gauge symmetry on orbifold
Abstract: We investigate the high-energy behavior of the scattering amplitudes in the extra dimensional gauge theory where the gauge symmetry is broken by the boundary condition. We study, in particular, the 5-dimensional SU(5) grand unified theory whose 5th-dimensional coordinate is compactified on S^1/Z_2. We pay attention to the gauge symmetry compatible with the boundary condition on the orbifold and… ▽ More

Unitarity in gauge symmetry breaking on orbifold
Abstract: We study the unitarity bounds of the scattering amplitudes in the extra dimensional gauge theory where the gauge symmetry is broken by the boundary condition. The estimation of the amplitude of the diagram including four massive gauge bosons in the external lines shows that the asymptotic power behavior of the amplitude is canceled. The calculation will be done in the 5 dimensional standard mode… ▽ More

Non-Anomalous Flavor Symmetries and $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ Model
Abstract: We introduce the flavor symmetry ${\bf Z}_M \times {\bf Z}_N \times D_4$ into the $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ string-inspired model. The cyclic group ${\bf Z}_M$ and the dihedral group $D_4$ are R symmetries, while ${\bf Z}_N$ is a non-R symmetry. By imposing the anomaly-free conditions on the model, we obtain a viable solution under many phenomenological constraints coming from the particle spectra.… ▽ More

Flavor Symmetry on Non-Commutative Compact Space and $SU(6) \times SU(2)_R$ Model
Abstract: In the four-dimensional effective theory from string compactification discrete flavor symmetries arise from symmetric structure of the compactified space and generally contain both the $R$ symmetry and non-$R$ symmetry. We point out that a new type of non-Abelian flavor symmetry can also appear if the compact space is non- commutative. Introducing the dihedral group $D_4$ as such a new type of f… ▽ More

Self-Dual Point and Unification
Abstract: We hypothesize that the vacuum is spontaneously shifted from the self-dual point in the moduli space, at which all dimensions are compact, and that the true vacuum results from the decompactification of the four space-time dimensions and remains in the vicinity of the self-dual point for extra dimensions. On the basis of our hypotheses we explore new types of the coupling unification which are n… ▽ More
