We study percolation on the sites of a finite lattice visited by a generalized random walk of finite length with periodic boundary conditions. More precisely, consider Levy flights and walks with finite jumps of length $>1$ (like knight's move random walks (RW) in 2 dimensions and generalized knight's move RW in 3d). In these walks, the visited sites do not form (as in ordinary RW) a single connected cluster, and thus percolation on them is non-trivial. The model essentially mimics the spreading of an epidemic in a population weakened by the passage of some devastating agent -- like diseases in the wake of a passing army or of a hurricane. Using the density of visited sites (or the number of steps in the walk) as a control parameter, we find a true continuous percolation transition in all cases except for the 2-d knight's move RW and Levy flights with Levy parameter $σ\geq 2$. For 3-d generalized knight's move RW, the model is in the universality class of Pacman percolation, and all critical exponents seem to be simple rationals, in particular $β=1$. For 2-d Levy flights with $0 <σ< 2$, scale invariance is broken even at the critical point, which leads at least to very large corrections in finite size scaling, and even very large simulations were unable to determine unambiguously the critical exponents.

The existence of a minimal length is predicted by theories of quantum gravity and it is generally accepted that this minimal length should be of the order of the Planck length and hence can be observed in high energy phenomenon. We study the implications of the presence of the minimal length on the Klein-Gordon filed with φ4self-interaction. Considering the process of spontaneous symmetry breaking, the potential also includes the φ3term. The consequent field equation is a fourth-order differential equation and is considered to have solitary solutions. The sech method is applied and the normalized solutions are obtained in closed forms and the energy spectrum of the solitary fields is determined. The modification parameter of the theory is estimated by the width and the energy of the obtained solitary fields.

The electron scattering from periodic line defects on the surface of topological insulators with hexagonal war** effect is investigated theoretically by means of a transfer matrix method. The influence of surface line defects, acting as structural ripples on propagation of electrons are studied in two perpendicular directions due to the asymmetry of warped energy contour under momentum exchange. The transmission profiles and the details of resonant peaks which vary with the number of defects and the strength of their potentials are strongly dependent on the direction in which the line defects extend. At low energies, the quantum interference between the incident and reflected propagating electrons has the dominant contribution in transmission resonances, while at high energies the multiple scattering processes on the constant-energy contour also appear because of the strong war** effect. By increasing the spatial separation between the line defects, the minimum value of electrical conductance remains significantly high at low incident energies, while the minimum value may approach zero at high energies as the number of defects is increased. Our findings suggest that the potential ripples on the surface of topological insulators can be utilized to control the local electronic properties of these materials.

In this paper, we investigate the critical points of the $ P-V $ diagram and the phase transitions of the Horndenski black holes. In fact, the usual Horndeski black holes do not have $ P-V $ critical points, hence do not show any phase transitions. However, we successfully modify the Horndeski black hole solution to obtain such a phase transition behavior. This modified black holes solution is satisfied by the equation of state of liquid-gas phase transition. Also, we study the thermodynamics of our modified Horndeski black hole by applying a new method based on the equation of state that originated from the slope of temperature versus entropy. This new prescription provides us a simple powerful way to study the critical behavior and the phase transition of the black holes and concludes the novel results. The analytical interpretation of possible phase transition points leads us to set some nonphysical range on the horizon radius for the black hole.

In this paper, the thermodynamical properties and the phase transitions of the charged accelerating anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes are investigated in the framework of the $f(R)$ gravity. By studying the conditions for the phase transitions, it has been shown that the $P-V$ criticality and the van der Waals like phase transitions can be achieved for $ T \approx T_{c} $. The Joule-Thomson expansion effects are also examined for the charged accelerating AdS black holes of the $f(R)$ gravity. Here, we derive the inversion temperatures as well as the inversion curves. Then, we determine the position of the reverse point for different values of mass $M$ and parameter $b$ for the corresponding black hole. At this point, the Joule-Thompson coefficient is zero. So, in such case, we can say that such point is very important for the finding of cooling - heating regions. Finally, we calculate the ratio of minimum inversion temperature and critical temperature for such black hole.

We investigate the influence of Casimir and electrostatic torques on double beam torsional microelectromechanical systems with materials covering a broad range of conductivities of more than three orders of magnitude. For the frictionless autonomous systems, bifurcation and phase space analysis shows that there is a significant difference between stable and unstable operating regimes for equal and unequal applied voltages on both sides of the double torsional system giving rise to heteroclinic and homoclinic orbits, respectively. For equal applied voltages, only the position of a symmetric unstable saddle equilibrium point is dependent on the material optical properties and electrostatic effects, while in any other case there are stable and unstable equilibrium points are dependent on both factors. For the periodically driven system, a Melnikov function approach is used to show the presence of chaotic motion rendering predictions of whether stiction or stable actuation will take place over long times impossible. Chaotic behavior introduces significant risk for stiction, and it is more prominent to occur for the more conductive systems that experience stronger Casimir forces and torques. Indeed, when unequal voltages are applied, the sensitive dependence of chaotic motion on electrostatics is more pronounced for the highest conductivity systems.

Casimir forces between material surfaces at close proximity of less than 200 nm can lead to increased chaotic behavior of actuating devices depending on the strength of the Casimir interaction. We investigate these phenomena for phase change materials in torsional oscillators, where the amorphous to crystalline phase transitions lead to transitions between high and low Casimir force and torque states respectively, without material compositions. For a conservative system bifurcation curve and Poincare maps analysis show the absence of chaotic behavior but with the crystalline phase (high force/torque state) favoring more unstable behavior and stiction. However, for a non-conservative system chaotic behavior can occur introducing significant risk for stiction, which is again more pronounced for the crystalline phase. The latter illustrates the more general scenario that stronger Casimir forces and torques increase the possibility for chaotic behavior. The latter is making impossible to predict whether stiction or stable actuation will occur on a long term basis, and it is setting limitations in the design of micro/nano devices operating at short range nanoscale separations.

We analyze in detail the Solid-On-Solid model (SOS) for growth processes on a square substrate in 2+1 dimensions. By using the Markovian surface properties, we introduce an alternative approach for determining the roughness exponent of a special type of SOS model-the Restricted-Solid-On-Solid model (RSOS)- in 2+1 dimensions. This model is the SOS model with the additional restriction that the height difference must be S=1. Our numerical results show that the behaviour of the SOS model in 2+1 dimensions for approximately $S\geq S_{\times}\sim 8$ belongs to the two different universality classes: during the initial time stage, $t< t_{\times}$ it belongs to the Random-Deposition (RD) class, while for $t_{\times}<t\ll t_{sat}$ it belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class. The crossover time ($t_{\times}$) is related to S via a power law with exponent, $η=1.99\pm0.02$ at $1σ$ confidence level which is the same as that for 1+1 dimensions reported in Ref. \cite{e1}. Using the structure function, we compute the roughness exponent. In contrast to the growth exponent, the roughness exponent does not show crossover for different values of S. The scaling exponents of the structure function for fixed values of separation distance versus S in one and two space dimensions are $ξ=0.92\pm0.05$ and $ξ=0.86\pm0.05$ at $1σ$ confidence level, respectively.

We develop a statistical theory for the $φ^4$-theory driven with a random forcing which is white in time and Gaussian-correlated in space. A master equation is derived for the probability density function (PDF) of the order parameter, when the forcing correlation length is much smaller than the system size, but much larger than the typical width of the domain walls. Moreover, exact expressions for the one-point PDF and all the moments $<φ^n>$ are given. We then investigate the intermittency issue in the strong coupling limit, and derive the tail of the PDF of the increments $φ(x_2) - φ(x_1)$. The scaling laws for the structure functions of the increments are obtained through numerical simulations. It is shown that the moments of field increments defined by, $C_b=< |φ(x_2)-φ(x_1)|^b>$, behave as $|x_1-x_2|^{ξ_b}$, where $ξ_b=b$ for $b\leq 1$, and $ξ_b=1$ for $b\geq1$

We analyze the problem when the surface growth dynamics is governed by the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation without surface tension, in the time regime prior to appearance of cusp singularities (sharp valleys), as well as in the random deposition (RD) model. The total number $N^+$ of such level-crossings with positive slope in all the directions is then shown to scale with time as $t^{d/2}$ for both the KPZ equation and the RD model.

The Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation in 1+1 dimension dynamically develops sharply connected valley structures within which the height derivative {\it is not} continuous. There are two different regimes before and after creation of the sharp valleys. We develop a statistical theory for the KPZ equation in 1+1 dimension driven with a random forcing which is white in time and Gaussian correlated in space. A master equation is derived for the joint probability density function of height difference and height gradient $P(h-\bar h,\partial_{x}h,t)$ when the forcing correlation length is much smaller than the system size and much bigger than the typical sharp valley width. In the time scales before the creation of the sharp valleys we find the exact generating function of $h-\bar h$ and $\partial_x h$. Then we express the time scale when the sharp valleys develop, in terms of the forcing characteristics. In the stationary state, when the sharp valleys are fully developed, finite size corrections to the scaling laws of the structure functions $<(h-\bar h)^n (\partial_x h)^m>$ are also obtained.
