Coverage control for mobile sensing networks
Abstract: This paper presents control and coordination algorithms for groups of vehicles. The focus is on autonomous vehicle networks performing distributed sensing tasks where each vehicle plays the role of a mobile tunable sensor. The paper proposes gradient descent algorithms for a class of utility functions which encode optimal coverage and sensing policies. The resulting closed-loop behavior is adapt… ▽ More

Exploratory Behavior, Trap Models and Glass Transitions
Abstract: A random walk is performed on a disordered landscape composed of $N$ sites randomly and uniformly distributed inside a $d$-dimensional hypercube. The walker hops from one site to another with probability proportional to $\exp [- βE(D)]$, where $β= 1/T$ is the inverse of a formal temperature and $E(D)$ is an arbitrary cost function which depends on the hop distance $D$. Analytic results indicate… ▽ More

Motion planning and control problems for underactuated robots
Abstract: Motion planning and control are key problems in a collection of robotic applications including the design of autonomous agile vehicles and of minimalist manipulators. These problems can be accurately formalized within the language of affine connections and of geometric control theory. In this paper we overview recent results on kinematic controllability and on oscillatory controls. Furthermore,… ▽ More

Computational problems for vector-valued quadratic forms
Abstract: Given two real vector spaces $U$ and $V$, and a symmetric bilinear map $B: U\times U\to V$, let $Q_B$ be its associated quadratic map $Q_B$. The problems we consider are as follows: (i) are there necessary and sufficient conditions, checkable in polynomial-time, for determining when $Q_B$ is surjective?; (ii) if $Q_B$ is surjective, given $v\in V$ is there a polynomial-time algorithm for finding… ▽ More

Asymptotic of the Heat Kernel in General Benedicks Domains
Abstract: Using a new inequality relating the heat kernel and the probability of survival, we prove asymptotic ratio limit theorems for the heat kernel (and survival probability) in general Benedicks domains. In particular, the dimension of the cone of positive harmonic measures with Dirichlet boundary condition can be derived from the rate of convergence to zero of the heat kernel (or the survival probab… ▽ More

q-Thermostatistics and the black-body radiation problem
Abstract: We give an exact information-theory treatment of the $n$-dimensional black-body radiation process in a non-extensive scenario. We develop a $q$ generalization of the laws of i) Stefan Boltzmann, ii) Planck, and iii) Wien, and show that conventional, canonical results are obtained at temperatures above $1 K$. Deterministic walks in random networks: an application to thesaurus graphs
Abstract: In a landscape composed of N randomly distributed sites in Euclidean space, a walker (``tourist'') goes to the nearest one that has not been visited in the last τsteps. This procedure leads to trajectories composed of a transient part and a final cyclic attractor of period p. The tourist walk presents universal aspects with respect to τand can be done in a wide range of networks that can be view… ▽ More

Risk aversion in economic transactions
Abstract: Most people are risk-averse (risk-seeking) when they expect to gain (lose). Based on a generalization of ``expected utility theory'' which takes this into account, we introduce an automaton mimicking the dynamics of economic operations. Each operator is characterized by a parameter q which gauges people's attitude under risky choices; this index q is in fact the entropic one which plays a centra… ▽ More

Composition of Lorentz Transformations in Terms of Their Generators
Abstract: Two-forms in Minkowski space-time may be considered as generators of Lorentz transformations. Here, the covariant and general expression for the composition law (Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula) of two Lorentz transformations in terms of their generators is obtained. Every subalgebra of the Lorentz algebra of such generators, up to one, may be generated by a sole pair of generators. When the su… ▽ More

Nonextensive thermodynamic relations
Abstract: The generalized zeroth law of thermodynamics indicates that the physical temperature in nonextensive statistical mechanics is different from the inverse of the Lagrange multiplier, beta. This leads to modifications of some of thermodynamic relations for nonextensive systems. Entropic uncertainty relation for power-law wave packets
Abstract: For the power-law quantum wave packet in configuration space, the variance of the position observable may be divergent. Accordingly, the information-entropic formulation of the uncertainty principle becomes more appropriate than the Heisenberg-type formulation, since it involves only the finite quantities. It is found that the total amount of entropic uncertainty converges to its lower bound in… ▽ More

Equipartition and Virial theorems in a nonextensive optimal Lagrange multipliers scenario
Abstract: We revisit some topics of classical thermostatistics from the perspective of the nonextensive optimal Lagrange multipliers (OLM), a recently introduced technique for dealing with the maximization of Tsallis' information measure. It is shown that Equipartition and Virial theorems can be reproduced by Tsallis' nonextensive formalism independently of the value of the nonextensivity index.

Tsallis' entropy maximization procedure revisited
