As corollaries, we obtain new unique continuation properties for solutions $u$ to \[ Δ_{\mathbb{H}} u = Vu \] with certain symmetries as expressed in (1.6) where $Δ_{\mathbb{H}}$ corresponds to the sub-Laplacian on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$.

Large-scale machine learning and data mining applications require computer systems to perform massive matrix-vector and matrix-matrix multiplication operations that need to be parallelized across multiple nodes. The presence of straggling nodes -- computing nodes that unpredictably slowdown or fail -- is a major bottleneck in such distributed computations. Ideal load balancing strategies that dynamically allocate more tasks to faster nodes require knowledge or monitoring of node speeds as well as the ability to quickly move data. Recently proposed fixed-rate erasure coding strategies can handle unpredictable node slowdown, but they ignore partial work done by straggling nodes thus resulting in a lot of redundant computation. We propose a \emph{rateless fountain coding} strategy that achieves the best of both worlds -- we prove that its latency is asymptotically equal to ideal load balancing, and it performs asymptotically zero redundant computations. Our idea is to create linear combinations of the $m$ rows of the matrix and assign these encoded rows to different worker nodes. The original matrix-vector product can be decoded as soon as slightly more than $m$ row-vector products are collectively finished by the nodes. We conduct experiments in three computing environments: local parallel computing, Amazon EC2, and Amazon Lambda, which show that rateless coding gives as much as $3\times$ speed-up over uncoded schemes.

In this paper, we consider Anderson type operators on a separable Hilbert space where the random perturbations are finite rank and the random variables have full support on $\mathbb{R}$. We show that spectral multiplicity has a uniform lower bound whenever the lower bound is given on a set of positive Lebesgue measure on the point spectrum away from the continuous one. We also show a deep connection between the multiplicity of pure point spectrum and local spectral statistics, in particular, we show that spectral multiplicity higher than one always gives non-Poisson local statistics in the framework of Minami theory.
In particular, in higher rank Anderson models with pure-point spectrum, with the randomness having support equal to $\mathbb{R}$, there is a uniform lower bound on spectral multiplicity and in case this is larger than one the local statistics is not Poisson.

Dirac particle represents a fundamental constituent of our nature. Simulation of Dirac particle dynamics by a controllable quantum system using quantum walks will allow us to investigate the non-classical nature of dynamics in its discrete form. In this work, starting from a modified version of one-spatial dimensional general inhomogeneous split-step discrete quantum walk we derive an effective Hamiltonian which mimics a single massive Dirac particle dynamics in curved $(1+1)$ space-time dimension coupled to $U(1)$ gauge potential---which is a forward step towards the simulation of the unification of electromagnetic and gravitational forces in lower dimension and at the single particle level. Implementation of this simulation scheme in simple qubit-system has been demonstrated. We show that the same Hamiltonian can represent $(2+1)$ space-time dimensional Dirac particle dynamics when one of the spatial momenta remains fixed. We also discuss how we can include $U(N)$ gauge potential in our scheme, in order to capture other fundamental force effects on the Dirac particle. The emergence of curvature in the two-particle split-step quantum walk has also been investigated while the particles are interacting through their entangled coin operations.

When $\{ω_n\}_n$ are independent real random variables with absolutely continuous distributions, we show that the multiplicity of singular spectrum is almost surely bounded above by the maximum algebraic multiplicity of eigenvalues of $\sqrt{C_n}(A^ω-z)^{-1}\sqrt{C_n}$ for all $n$ and almost all $(z,ω)$. The result is optimal in the sense that there are operators where the bound is achieved. Using this, we also provide effective bounds on multiplicity of singular spectrum for some special cases.

The question, whether an open system dynamics is Markovian or non-Markovian can be answered by studying the direction of the information flow in the dynamics. In Markovian dynamics, information must always flow from the system to the environment. If the environment is interacting with only one of the subsystems of a bipartite system, the dynamics of the entanglement in the bipartite system can be used to identify the direction of information flow. Here we study the dynamics of a two-level system interacting with an environment, which is also a heat bath, and consists of a large number of two-level quantum systems. Our model can be seen as a close approximation to the `spin bath' model at low temperatures. We analyze the Markovian nature of the dynamics, as we change the coupling between the system and the environment. We find the Kraus operators of the dynamics for certain classes of couplings. We show that any form of time-independent or time-polynomial coupling gives rise to non-Markovianity. Also, we witness non-Markovianity for certain parameter values of time-exponential coupling. Moreover, we study the transition from non-Markovian to Markovian dynamics as we change the value of coupling strength.

The aim of this work is to provide a precise and accurate measurement of the 238U(n,g) reaction cross section in the energy region from 1 eV to 700 keV. This reaction is of fundamental importance for the design calculations of nuclear reactors, governing the behaviour of the reactor core. In particular, fast reactors, which are experiencing a growing interest for their ability to burn radioactive waste, operate in the high energy region of the neutron spectrum. In this energy region most recent evaluations disagree due to inconsistencies in the existing measurements of up to 15%. In addition, the assessment of nuclear data uncertainty performed for innovative reactor systems shows that the uncertainty in the radiative capture cross-section of 238U should be further reduced to 1-3% in the energy region from 20 eV to 25 keV. To this purpose, addressed by the Nuclear Energy Agency as a priority nuclear data need, complementary experiments, one at the GELINA and two at the n_TOF facility, were proposed and carried out within the 7th Framework Project ANDES of the European Commission.
The results of one of these 238U(n,g) measurements performed at the n_TOF CERN facility are presented in this work. The gamma-ray cascade following the radiative neutron capture has been detected exploiting a setup of two C6D6 liquid scintillators. Resonance parameters obtained from this work are on average in excellent agreement with the ones reported in evaluated libraries. In the unresolved resonance region, this work yields a cross section in agreement with evaluated libraries up to 80 keV, while for higher energies our results are significantly higher.

We study the sampling of spatial fields using sensors that are location-unaware but deployed according to a known statistical distribution. It has been shown that uniformly distributed location-unaware sensors cannot infer bandlimited fields due to the symmetry and shift-invariance of the field.
This work studies asymmetric (nonuniform) distributions on location-unaware sensors that will enable bandlimited field inference. For the sake of analytical tractability, location-unaware sensors are restricted to a discrete grid. Oversampling followed by clustering of the samples using the probability distribution that governs sensor placement on the grid is used to infer the field . Based on this clustering algorithm, the main result of this work is to find the optimal probability distribution on sensor locations that minimizes the detection error-probability of the underlying spatial field. The proposed clustering algorithm is also extended to include the case of signal reconstruction in the presence of sensor noise by treating the distribution of the noisy samples as a mixture model and using clustering to estimate the mixture model parameters.

In the present work, we execute the Lie symmetry analysis on the Einstein-Maxwell field equations in the plane symmetric spacetime. Under the background of the plane symmetric space-time we compute the Lie point symmetries, perform the similarity reductions and obtain exact solutions in connection to the evolutionary scenario of the universe. The special feature of the study is that it deals with the electromagnetic energy of the inhomogeneous universe through the non-vanishing component of electromagnetic field tensor $F_{12}$ and assumes that the free gravitational field is of Petrov type-II non-degenerate. We have found that the electromagnetic field tensor is positive and increasing function of time. To validate the solution set, we examine with detailed discussions several physical as well as geometrical features of a specific sub-case of the model.

Symmetrically evolving discrete quantum walk results in dynamic localization with zero mean displacement when the standard evolution operations are replaced by a temporal disorder evolution operation. In this work we show that the quantum ratchet action, that is, a directed transport in standard or disordered discrete-time quantum walk can be realized by introducing a pawl like effect realized by using a fixed coin operation at marked positions that is, different from the ones used for evolution at other positions. We also show that the combination of standard and disordered evolution operations can be optimized to get the mean displacement of order $\propto$ t (number of walk steps). This model of quantum ratchet in quantum walk is defined using only a set of entangling unitary operators resulting in the coherent quantum transport.

The set of quantum walk parameters which is required to reproduce the oscillation probability profile obtained in both, long range and short range neutrino experiment is explicitly presented. Our scheme to simulate three-generation neutrino oscillation from quantum walk evolution operators can be physically realized in any low energy experimental set-up with access to control a single six-level system, a multiparticle three-qubit or a qubit-qutrit system. We also present the entanglement between spins and position space, during neutrino propagation that will quantify the wave function delocalization around instantaneous average position of the neutrino. Simulations of one quantum system by an other has an implication in realization of quantum machine that can imitate any quantum system and solve problems that are not accessible to classical computers. One of the approach to engineer quantum simulations is to discretize the space-time degree of freedom in quantum dynamics and define the quantum cellular automata (QCA), a local unitary update rule on a lattice. Different models of QCA are constructed using set of conditions which are not unique and are not always in implementable configuration on any other system. Dirac Cellular Automata (DCA) is one such model constructed for Dirac Hamiltonian (DH) in free quantum field theory. Here, starting from a split-step discrete-time quantum walk (QW) which is uniquely defined for experimental implementation, we recover the DCA along with all the fine oscillations in position space and bridge the missing connection between DH-DCA-QW. We will present the contribution of the parameters resulting in the fine oscillations on the Zitterbewegung frequency and entanglement. The tuneability of the evolution parameters demonstrated in experimental implementation of QW will establish it as an efficient tool to design quantum simulator and approach quantum field theory from principles of quantum information theory.

Experimental detection of entanglement of an arbitrary state of a given bipartite system is crucial for exploring many areas of quantum information. But such a detection should be made in a device independent way if the preparation process of the state is considered to be faithful, in order to avoid detection of a separable state as entangled one. The recently developed scheme of detecting bipartite entanglement in a measurement device independent way [Phys. Rev. Lett {\bf 110}, 060405 (2013)] does require information about the state. Here by using Auguisiak et al.'s universal entanglement witness scheme for two-qubit states [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 77}, 030301 (2008)], we provide a universal detection scheme for two-qubit states in a measurement device independent way. We provide a set of universal witness operators for detecting NPT-ness(negative under partial transpose) of states in a measurement device independent way. We conjecture that no such universal entanglement witness exists for PPT(positive under partial transpose) entangled states. We also analyse the robustness of some of the experimental schemes of detecting entanglement in a measurement device independent way under the influence of noise in the inputs (from the referee) as well as in the measurement operator as envisazed in ref. In this paper, we investigate CoFeCrAl alloy by means of various experimental techniques and ab-initio calculations to look for half-metallic nature. The alloy is found to exist in the cubic Heusler structure, with presence of B2 ordering. Saturation magnetization (MS) value of about 2 Bohr magneton/f.u. is observed at 8 K under ambient pressure, which is in good agreement with the Slater-Pauling rule. MS values are found to be independent of pressure, which is a prerequisite for half-metals. The ab-initio electronic structure calculations predict half-metallic nature for the alloy with a spin slitting energy of 0.31 eV. Importantly, this system shows a high current spin polarization value of 0.67 [with error of 0.02], as deduced from the point contact Andreev reflection (PCAR) measurements. Linear dependence of electrical resistivity with temperature indicates the possibility of reasonably high spin polarization at elevated temperatures (~150 K) as well. All these suggest that CoFeCrAl is a promising material for the spintronic devices.

Despite a plethora of materials suggested for spintronic applications, a new class of materials has emerged, namely spin gapless semiconductors (SGS), that offers potentially more advantageous properties than existing ones. These magnetic semiconductors exhibit a finite band gap for one spin channel and a closed gap for the other. Here, supported by the first-principles, electronic-structure calculations, we report the first experimental evidence of SGS behavior in equiatomic quaternary CoFeCrGa, having a cubic Heusler (L21) structure but exhibiting chemical disorder (DO3 structure). CoFeCrGa is found to transform from SGS to half-metallic phase under pressure, which is attributed to unique electronic-structure features. The saturation magnetization (MS) obtained at 8 K agrees with the Slater-Pauling rule and the Curie temperature (TC) is found to exceed 400 K. Carrier concentration (up to 250 K) and electrical conductivity are observed to be nearly temperature independent, prerequisites for SGS. The anomalous Hall coefficient is estimated to be 185 S/cm at 5 K. Considering the SGS properties and high TC, this material appears to be promising for spintronic applications.

Jakšić-Last Theorem for Higher Rank Perturbations

Abstract:
We consider the generalized Anderson Model $Δ+\sum_{n\in\mathcal{N}}ω_n P_n$, where $\mathcal{N}$ is a countable set, $\{ω_n\}_{n\in\mathcal{N}}$ are i.i.d random variables and $P_n$ are rank $N<\infty$ projections. For these models we prove theorem analogous to that of Jakšić-Last on the equivalence of the trace measure $σ_n(\cdot)=tr(P_nE_{H^ω}(\cdot)P_n)$ for $n\in\mathcal{N}$ a.e $ω$. Our mode…

We propose a relativistic model of hybrid star admitting conformal symmetry considering quark matter and baryonic matter as two different fluids. We define interaction equations between the normal baryonic matter and the quark matter and study the physical situations for repulsive, attractive and zero interaction between the constituent matters. We propose a relativistic model of hybrid star admitting conformal symmetry considering quark matter and baryonic matter as two different fluids. We define interaction equations between the normal baryonic matter and the quark matter and study the physical situations for repulsive, attractive and zero interaction between the constituent matters. From the interaction equations we find out the value of the equation of state (EOS) parameter for normal baryonic matter which is found to be consistent with the value obtained from the Walecka model for nucleonic matter at high density. The measured value of the Bag constant is used to explore the space time geometry inside the star. The theoretical mass-radius values are compared with the available observational data of the compact objects. From the nature of the match with the observational data, we predict the nature of interaction that must be present inside the hybrid stars

In this paper, we report the first experimental evidence for spin gapless semiconducting behavior in CoFeMnSi Heusler alloy. Such a behavior is also confirmed by first principles band structure calculations. The most stable configuration obtained by the theoretical calculation is verified by experiment. The alloy is found to crystallize in the cubic Heusler structure (LiMgPdSn type) with some amount of disorder and has a saturation magnetization of 3.7 Bohr's magneton/f.u.. and Curie temperature of 620 K. The saturation magnetization is found to follow the Slater-Pauling behavior, one of the prerequisites for SGS. Nearly temperature-independent carrier concentration and electrical conductivity is observed from 5 to 300 K. An anomalous Hall coefficient of 162 S/cm is obtained at 5 K. Point contact Andreev reflection data has yielded the current spin polarization value of 0.64, which is found to be robust against the structural disorder. All these properties are quite promising for the spintronic applications such as spin injection and can bridge a gap between the contrasting behavior of half-metallic ferromagnets and semiconductors.

Abstract:
We consider random Schrödinger operators on $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ when the distribution of single site potentials is $α$-Hölder continuous ($0<α\leq 1$). In localized regime we study the distribution of eigenfunctions simultaneously in space and energy. In a certain scaling limit we prove limits point are Poisson.
