This paper aims to develop a new deep learning-inspired gaming approach for early detection of dementia. This research integrates a robust convolutional neural network (CNN)-based model for early dementia detection using health metrics data as well as facial image data through a cognitive assessment-based gaming application. We have collected 1000 data samples of health metrics dataset from Apollo Diagnostic Center Kolkata that is labeled as either demented or non-demented for the training of MOD-1D-CNN for the game level 1 and another dataset of facial images containing 1800 facial data that are labeled as either demented or non-demented is collected by our research team for the training of MOD-2D-CNN model in-game level 2. In our work, the loss for the proposed MOD-1D-CNN model is 0.2692 and the highest accuracy is 70.50% for identifying the dementia traits using real-life health metrics data. Similarly, the proposed MOD-2D-CNN model loss is 0.1755 and the highest accuracy is obtained here 95.72% for recognizing the dementia status using real-life face-based image data. Therefore, a rule-based weightage method is applied to combine both the proposed methods to achieve the final decision. The MOD-1D-CNN and MOD-2D-CNN models are more lightweight and computationally efficient alternatives because they have a significantly lower number of parameters when compared to the other state-of-the-art models. We have compared their accuracies and parameters with the other state-of-the-art deep learning models.

Strongly correlated system with competing ground states are often poised close to the quantum critical point. External perturbations such as pressure, strain, electric field, and chemical do** can stabilise its ground state with exotic physical properties. Cr-do** is the lone exception which enhances the Curie-temperature in one of such correlated system SrRuO$_3$. To find the origin of $T_C$ enhancement, we investigate temperature-dependent structure, spectroscopic, magnetic and magnetotransport properties in SrRu$_{1-x}$Cr$_x$O$_3$. Cr-do** squeezes the unit cell volume which effectively enhances the stretching octahedral distortion by nearly five times than pure SrRuO$_3$. The Curie temperature increment by $\sim$ 22 K for x = 0.15 is found to be intertwined with the structural-modulation. Temperature-dependent Neutron diffraction analysis indicate that the unit cell volume minima coincide exactly with the enhanced ferromagnetic ordering ($\sim$ 190 K). Further analysis reveals that the effect of Cr-do** not only freezes the octahedral tilt below 100 K but also suppresses the complex magnetism responsible for exchange bias and topological hall effect in SrRuO$_3$. The spectroscopic measurements find a reduction of itinerancy of d-electrons with Cr-do**. The magnetotransport measurements portray an evolution from itinerant to localised ferromagnetism.

Without human annotations, a typical Unsupervised Video Anomaly Detection (UVAD) method needs to train two models that generate pseudo labels for each other. In previous work, the two models are closely entangled with each other, and it is not known how to upgrade their method without modifying their training framework significantly. Second, previous work usually adopts fixed thresholding to obtain pseudo labels, however the user-specified threshold is not reliable which inevitably introduces errors into the training process. To alleviate these two problems, we propose a novel interleaved framework that alternately trains a One-Class Classification (OCC) model and a Weakly-Supervised (WS) model for UVAD. The OCC or WS models in our method can be easily replaced with other OCC or WS models, which facilitates our method to upgrade with the most recent developments in both fields. For handling the fixed thresholding problem, we break through the conventional cognitive boundary and propose a weighted OCC model that can be trained on both normal and abnormal data. We also propose an adaptive mechanism for automatically finding the optimal threshold for the WS model in a loose to strict manner. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed UVAD method outperforms previous approaches.

Recently, MgTi$_2$O$_4$ has been found to be the only other spinel oxide to reveal a superconducting transition with a T$_c$ $\approx$ 3 K, however, its superconducting state is realized only in thin film superlattices involving SrTiO$_3$. We find that a V-doped Mg$_{1-x}$Ti$_2$O$_4$ phase, which gets stabilized as a thin surface layer on top of stoichiometric and insulating V-doped MgTi$_2$O$_4$ bulk sample, exhibits high-temperature superconductivity with T$_c$ $\approx$ 16 K. The superconducting transition is also confirmed through a concomitant sharp diamagnetic transition immediately below T$_c$. The spinel phase of the superconducting surface layer is elucidated through grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction and Micro-Raman spectroscopy. A small shift of the sharp superconducting transition temperature ($\sim$ 4 K) with application of a high magnetic field (upto 9 Tesla) suggests a very high critical field for the system, $\sim$ 25 Tesla. Thus, V-doped Mg$_{1-x}$Ti$_2$O$_4$ exhibits the highest T$_c$ among spinel superconductors and also possesses a very high critical field.

Deep neural networks have shown great success in prediction quality while reliable and robust uncertainty estimation remains a challenge. Predictive uncertainty supplements model predictions and enables improved functionality of downstream tasks including embedded and mobile applications, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, sensor fusion, and perception. These applications often require a compromise in complexity to obtain uncertainty estimates due to very limited memory and compute resources. We tackle this problem by building upon Monte Carlo Dropout (MCDO) models using the Axolotl framework; specifically, we diversify sampled subnetworks, leverage dropout patterns, and use a branching technique to improve predictive performance while maintaining fast computations. We conduct experiments on (1) a multi-class classification task using the CIFAR10 dataset, and (2) a more complex human body segmentation task. Our results show the effectiveness of our approach by reaching close to Deep Ensemble prediction quality and uncertainty estimation, while still achieving faster inference on resource-limited mobile platforms.

Modern convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are known to be overconfident in terms of their calibration on unseen input data. That is to say, they are more confident than they are accurate. This is undesirable if the probabilities predicted are to be used for downstream decision making. When considering accuracy, CNNs are also surprisingly robust to compression techniques, such as quantization, which aim to reduce computational and memory costs. We show that this robustness can be partially explained by the calibration behavior of modern CNNs, and may be improved with overconfidence. This is due to an intuitive result: low confidence predictions are more likely to change post-quantization, whilst being less accurate. High confidence predictions will be more accurate, but more difficult to change. Thus, a minimal drop in post-quantization accuracy is incurred. This presents a potential conflict in neural network design: worse calibration from overconfidence may lead to better robustness to quantization. We perform experiments applying post-training quantization to a variety of CNNs, on the CIFAR-100 and ImageNet datasets.

In recent years graph neural network (GNN)-based approaches have become a popular strategy for processing point cloud data, regularly achieving state-of-the-art performance on a variety of tasks. To date, the research community has primarily focused on improving model expressiveness, with secondary thought given to how to design models that can run efficiently on resource constrained mobile devices including smartphones or mixed reality headsets. In this work we make a step towards improving the efficiency of these models by making the observation that these GNN models are heavily limited by the representational power of their first, feature extracting, layer. We find that it is possible to radically simplify these models so long as the feature extraction layer is retained with minimal degradation to model performance; further, we discover that it is possible to improve performance overall on ModelNet40 and S3DIS by improving the design of the feature extractor. Our approach reduces memory consumption by 20$\times$ and latency by up to 9.9$\times$ for graph layers in models such as DGCNN; overall, we achieve speed-ups of up to 4.5$\times$ and peak memory reductions of 72.5%.

Quantized neural networks (NN) are the common standard to efficiently deploy deep learning models on tiny hardware platforms. However, we notice that quantized NNs are as vulnerable to adversarial attacks as the full-precision models. With the proliferation of neural networks on small devices that we carry or surround us, there is a need for efficient models without sacrificing trust in the prediction in presence of malign perturbations. Current mitigation approaches often need adversarial training or are bypassed when the strength of adversarial examples is increased.
In this work, we investigate how a probabilistic framework would assist in overcoming the aforementioned limitations for quantized deep learning models. We explore Stochastic-Shield: a flexible defense mechanism that leverages input filtering and a probabilistic deep learning approach materialized via Monte Carlo Dropout. We show that it is possible to jointly achieve efficiency and robustness by accurately enabling each module without the burden of re-retraining or ad hoc fine-tuning.

Bayesian neural networks (BNNs) are making significant progress in many research areas where decision-making needs to be accompanied by uncertainty estimation. Being able to quantify uncertainty while making decisions is essential for understanding when the model is over-/under-confident, and hence BNNs are attracting interest in safety-critical applications, such as autonomous driving, healthcare, and robotics. Nevertheless, BNNs have not been as widely used in industrial practice, mainly because of their increased memory and compute costs. In this work, we investigate quantisation of BNNs by compressing 32-bit floating-point weights and activations to their integer counterparts, that has already been successful in reducing the compute demand in standard pointwise neural networks. We study three types of quantised BNNs, we evaluate them under a wide range of different settings, and we empirically demonstrate that a uniform quantisation scheme applied to BNNs does not substantially decrease their quality of uncertainty estimation.

In image classification tasks, the evaluation of models' robustness to increased dataset shifts with a probabilistic framework is very well studied. However, object detection (OD) tasks pose other challenges for uncertainty estimation and evaluation. For example, one needs to evaluate both the quality of the label uncertainty (i.e., what?) and spatial uncertainty (i.e., where?) for a given bounding box, but that evaluation cannot be performed with more traditional average precision metrics (e.g., mAP). In this paper, we adapt the well-established YOLOv3 architecture to generate uncertainty estimations by introducing stochasticity in the form of Monte Carlo Dropout (MC-Drop), and evaluate it across different levels of dataset shift. We call this novel architecture Stochastic-YOLO, and provide an efficient implementation to effectively reduce the burden of the MC-Drop sampling mechanism at inference time. Finally, we provide some sensitivity analyses, while arguing that Stochastic-YOLO is a sound approach that improves different components of uncertainty estimations, in particular spatial uncertainties.

From various experimental studies it is found that the FCNC processes having quark level transition $b \to s$ are challenging. We have found that there is appreciable difference between the standard model and $Z'$ model predictions. Recently, the lepton flavour non-universality parameters $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ have been measured by the LHCb collaboration and are found to be different from their standard model predictions. These deviations provide the hint of flavor non-universality in lepton sector and motivate our research to look for new physics beyond the standard model. The $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ anomalies may be due to new physics in either electron or muon sector or both. In our work, we have shown that the experimental results of $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ could be achieved in non-universal $Z'$ model considering the new physics couplings to muon sector only.

Gliomas are the most common primary brain malignancies, with different degrees of aggressiveness, variable prognosis and various heterogeneous histologic sub-regions, i.e., peritumoral edematous/invaded tissue, necrotic core, active and non-enhancing core. This intrinsic heterogeneity is also portrayed in their radio-phenotype, as their sub-regions are depicted by varying intensity profiles disseminated across multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) scans, reflecting varying biological properties. Their heterogeneous shape, extent, and location are some of the factors that make these tumors difficult to resect, and in some cases inoperable. The amount of resected tumor is a factor also considered in longitudinal scans, when evaluating the apparent tumor for potential diagnosis of progression. Furthermore, there is mounting evidence that accurate segmentation of the various tumor sub-regions can offer the basis for quantitative image analysis towards prediction of patient overall survival. This study assesses the state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methods used for brain tumor image analysis in mpMRI scans, during the last seven instances of the International Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) challenge, i.e., 2012-2018. Specifically, we focus on i) evaluating segmentations of the various glioma sub-regions in pre-operative mpMRI scans, ii) assessing potential tumor progression by virtue of longitudinal growth of tumor sub-regions, beyond use of the RECIST/RANO criteria, and iii) predicting the overall survival from pre-operative mpMRI scans of patients that underwent gross total resection. Finally, we investigate the challenge of identifying the best ML algorithms for each of these tasks, considering that apart from being diverse on each instance of the challenge, the multi-institutional mpMRI BraTS dataset has also been a continuously evolving/growing dataset.

Abstract:
The rare decays $B_{(s,d)}^*\to l^+ l^-$ are important to probe the flavour sector of the standard model and to search new physics beyond the SM. Unlike pseudoscalar B meson, the leptonic decays of vector $ B_(s,d)^*$ mesons are not chirally supressed which compensates for their short lifetimes, and results significant branching ratios. In this paper, we estimate the branching ratios of $B_{(s,d)}^*\to l^+ l^-$ $(l=e,μ)$ rare decays in Z' model which is an extension of the SM with an extra U(1)' gauge symmetry. We find that the branching ratios are increased from their corresponding standard model values and vary with the mass of $Z'$ boson. Lower is the mass of $Z'$ boson, higher is the branching ratio.

In this article we have theoretically investigated the dispersion characteristics of dual-core PCF, based on square-lattice geometry by varying different parameters. The fiber exhibits a very large negative dispersion because of rapid slope change of the refractive indices at the coupling wavelength between the inner core and outer core. The dependence of different geometrical parameters namely hole-to-hole spacing (pitch) and different air-hole diameter (d) was investigated in detail. By proper adjustment of the available parameters, a high negative dispersion value of -47,500 ps/nm/km has been achieved around the wavelength of 1550nm. Our proposed fiber will be an excellent device for dispersion compensation in long-haul data transmission as being thousand times more than the available DCFs.

We have performed a numerical analysis of the structural dependence of the PCF parameters towards ultra-flat dispersion in the C-band of communication wavelength. The technique is based on regular square-lattice PCF with all the air-hole of same uniform diameter and the effective size of the air-holes are modified with a selective infiltration of the air-holes with liquids. The dependence of the PCF structural parameters namely air-hole diameter and hole-to-hole distance along with the infiltrating liquid has been investigated in details. It is shown that the infiltrating liquid has critical influence on both the slope and value of dispersion, while pitch only changes the dispersion value whereas air-hole diameter modifies the slope of the dispersion. Our numerical investigation establishes dispersion values as small as 0+-0.58ps/(nm-km) over a bandwidth of 622nm in the communication wavelength band (C-band). The proposed design study will be very helpful in high power applications like broadband smooth supercontinuum generation, ASE suppressed amplification etc.

The paper report new results of chromatic dispersion in Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs) through appropriate designing of index-guiding triangular-lattice structure devised, with a selective infiltration of only the first air-hole ring with index-matching liquid. Our proposed structure can be implemented for both ultra-low and ultra-flattened dispersion over a wide wavelength range. The dependence of dispersion parameter of the PCF on infiltrating liquid indices, hole-to-hole distance and air-hole diameter are investigated in details. The result establishes the design to yield a dispersion of 0+-0.15ps/ (nm.km) in the communication wavelength band. We propose designs pertaining to infiltrating practical liquid for near-zero ultra-flat dispersion of D=0+-0.48ps/ (nm.km) achievable over a bandwidth of 276-492nm in the wavelength range of 1.26 μm to 1.80μm realization.

In this work, detailed numerical analysis of the near-elliptic core index-guiding triangular-lattice and square-lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCFs) are reported for birefringence, single mode, cut-off behavior, group velocity dispersion and effective area properties. For the same relative values of d/P, triangular-lattice PCFs show higher birefringence whereas the square-lattice PCFs show a wider range of single-mode operation. Square-lattice PCF was found to be endlessly single-mode for higher air-filling fraction (d/P). Smaller lengths of triangular-lattice PCF are required for dispersion compensation whereas PCFs with square-lattice with nearer relative dispersion slope (RDS) can better compensate the broadband dispersion. Square-lattice PCFs show ZDW red-shifted, making it preferable for mid-IR supercontinuum generation (SCG) with highly non-linear chalcogenide material. Square-lattice PCFs show higher dispersion slope that leads to compression of the broadband, thus accumulating more power in the pulse. On the other hand, triangular-lattice PCF with flat dispersion profile can generate broader SCG. Square-lattice PCF with low Group Velocity Dispersion (GVD) at the anomalous dispersion corresponds to higher dispersion length and higher degree of solitonic interaction. The effective area of square-lattice PCF is always greater than its triangular-lattice counterpart making it better suited for high power applications. Smaller length of symmetric-core PCF for dispersion compensation, while broadband dispersion compensation can be better performed with asymmetric-core PCF. Mid-Infrared SCG can be better performed with asymmetric-core PCF with compressed and high power pulse, while wider range of SCG can be performed with symmetric core PCF. Thus, this study will be extremely useful for realizing fiber towards a custom application around these characteristics.

In this article, silica based triangular lattice PCF has been investigated towards both narrowband and broadband dispersion compensation for application in the communication wavelength. A dual core structure is obtained by introducing two different air-hole diameters in the cladding of the PCF. Dependence of individual structural parameters towards high negative dispersion (both narrowband and broadband) has been investigated in details with multipole mode based solver. The numerical investigation exhibits narrowband of very large negative dispersion of -37,300 ps/nm/km around the wavelength of 1550 nm. Present investigation also reports broadband dispersion values varying from -800 ps/nm/km to -2600 ps/nm/km over a 200 nm wavelength (1400 nm to 1600 nm) range, and kappa values near 300 nm, which matches well with standard single mode fiber. Using the principle of power transfer from the inner core to the outer core after the coupling wavelength, we have investigated possible design of ASE suppressed amplifier in which wavelengths after the coupling wavelength cannot be amplified as most of the power tunnel to the outer core, where doped ion does not exist.

In the past few years, like other fields, rapid expansion of digitization and globalization has influenced the medical field as well. For progress of diagnostic results most of the reputed hospitals and diagnostic centres all over the world have started exchanging medical information. In this proposed method, the calculated diagnostic parametric values of the original Electrooculography (EOG) signal are embedded as a watermark by using Difference Expansion (DE) algorithm based reversible watermarking technique. The extracted watermark provides the required parametric values at the recipient end without any post computation of the recovered EOG signal. By computing the parametric values from the recovered signal, the integrity of the extracted watermark can be validated. The time domain features of EOG signal are calculated for the generation of watermark. In the current work, various features are studied and two major features related to blink frequency are used to generate the watermark. The high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and the Bit Error Rate (BER) claim the robustness of the proposed method.
