In this article, a new natural discrete analog of the one parameter polynomial exponential(OPPE) distribution as a mixture of a number of negative binomial distributions has been proposed and is called as a natural discrete one parameter polynomial exponential (NDOPPE) distribution. This distribution is a generalized version of natural discrete Lindley (NDL) distribution, proposed and studied by Ahmed and Afify (2019). Two estimators viz., MLE and UMVUE of the PMF and the CDF of a NDOPPE distribution have been derived. The estimators have been compared with respect to their MSEs. Simulation study has been conducted to verify the consistency of the estimators. A real data illustration has been reported.

Some important statistical properties, viz., survival characteristics, moments, mean deviation and random number generation have been derived. Further, maximum likelihood estimation for the estimation of the unknown parameters have also been discussed for the complete sample. The application of the proposed model has been illustrated through a real data set and observed that the proposed model might be taken as an better alternative to some well known lifetime distributions.

For a given data set the problem of selecting either Lindley or xgamma distribution with unknown parameter is investigated in this article. Both these distributions can be used quite effectively for analyzing skewed non-negative data and in modeling time-to-event data sets. We have used the ratio of the maximized likelihoods in choosing between the Lindley and xgamma distributions. Asymptotic distributions of the ratio of the maximized likelihoods are obtained and those are utilized to determine the minimum sample size required to discriminate between these two distributions for user specified probability of correct selection and tolerance limit.

This paper proposed a new probability distribution named as inverse xgamma distribution (IXGD). Different mathematical and statistical properties, viz., reliability characteristics, moments, inverse moments, stochastic ordering and order statistics of the proposed distribution have been derived and discussed. The estimation of the parameter of IXGD has been approached by different methods of estimation, namely, maximum likelihood method of estimation (MLE), Least square method of estimation (LSE), Weighted least square method of estimation (WLSE), Cram'er-von-Mises method of estimation (CME) and maximum product spacing method of estimation (MPSE). Asymptotic confidence interval (ACI) of the parameter is also obtained. A simulation study has been carried out to compare the performance of the obtained estimators and corresponding ACI in terms of average widths and corresponding coverage probabilities. Finally, two real data sets have been used to demonstrate the applicability of IXGD in real life situations.

Quantifying the "capability" of a manufacturing process is an important initial step in any quality improvement program. Capability is usually defined in dictionaries as "the ability to carry out a task, to achieve an objective". Process capability indices(PCIs) is defined as a combination of materials, methods, equipments and people engaged in producing a measurable output. PCIs which establish the relationships between the actual process performance and the manufacturing specifications, have been a focus of research in quality assurance and process capability analysis. Capability indices that qualify process potential and process performance are practical tools for successful quality improvement activities and quality program implementation. As a matter of fact, all processes have inherent statistical variability, which can be identified, evaluated and reduced by statistical methods. Generalized Process Capability Index, defined as the ratio of proportion of specification conformance (or, process yield) to proportion of desired (or, natural) conformance. We review the process capability indices in case of normal, non-normal, discrete and multivariate process distributions and discuss the inferential aspects of some of these process capability indices. Relations among the process capability indices have also been illustrated with examples. Finally we also consider the process capability indices using conditional ordering and transforming multivariate data to univariate one using the concept of structural function.
