We investigate the formation and decay of oscillons during the post-inflationary reheating epoch from inflaton oscillations around asymptotically flat potentials $V(\varphi)$ in the presence of an external coupling of the form $\frac{1}{2}\, g^2 \, \varphi^2 \, χ^2$. It is well-known that in the absence of such an external coupling, the attractive self-interaction term in the potential leads to the formation of copious amounts of long-lived oscillons both for symmetric and asymmetric plateau potentials. We perform a detailed numerical analysis to study the formation of oscillons in the $α$-attractor E- and T-model potentials using the publicly available lattice simulation code ${\cal C}$osmo${\cal L}$attice. We observe the formation of nonlinear oscillon-like structures with the average equation of state $\langle w_\varphi\rangle \simeq 0$ for a range of values of the inflaton self-coupling $λ$ and the external coupling $g^2$. Our results demonstrate that oscillons form even in the presence of an external coupling and we determine the upper bound on $g^2$ which facilitates oscillon formation. We also find that eventually, these oscillons decay into the scalar inflaton radiation as well as into the quanta of the offspring field $χ$. Thus, we establish the possibility that reheating could have proceeded through the channel of oscillon decay, along with the usual decay of the oscillating inflaton condensate into $χ$ particles. For a given value of the self-coupling $λ$, we notice that the lifetime of a population of oscillons decreases with an increase in the strength of the external coupling, following an (approximately) inverse power-law dependence on $g^2$.

We investigate the possibility of oscillon formation during the preheating phase of asymmetric inflationary potentials. We analytically establish the existence of oscillon-like solutions for the Klein-Gordon equation for a polynomial potential of the form $V(φ)=\frac{1}{2}φ^2+Aφ^3+Bφ^4$ using the small amplitude analysis, which naturally arises as a Taylor expansion of the $α$-attractor E-model for $φ\ll M_\text{pl}$ and $α\sim\mathcal{O}(1)$. We perform a detailed numerical analysis to study the formation of nonlinear structures in the $α$-attractor E-model using the publicly available lattice simulation code $\mathcal{C}\text{osmo}\mathcal{L}\text{attice}$ for parameters in the range $10^{-5}\lesssimα\lesssim 5\times 10^{-4}$. We find the backreaction of the field fluctuations onto the evolution of the homogeneous inflaton condensate to be significant for $α\lesssim 2\times 10^{-4}$ for which we observe the formation of highly nonlinear structures with average equation of state $w\simeq 0$. These nonlinear structures maybe interpreted as oscillons, providing evidence that they can form during the inflaton oscillations around an asymmetric potential and are found to be present for the entirety of the runtime of our simulations, comprising $\gtrsim 40\%$ of the total energy density.

We consider stochastic inflation coarse-grained using a general class of exponential filters. Such a coarse-graining prescription gives rise to inflaton-Langevin equations sourced by colored noise that is correlated in $e$-fold time. The dynamics are studied first in slow-roll for simple potentials using first-order perturbative, semi-analytical calculations which are later compared to numerical simulations. Subsequent calculations are performed using an exponentially correlated noise which appears as a leading order correction to the full slow-roll noise correlation functions of the type $\big\langle ξ(N)ξ(N') \big\rangle_{(n)}\sim\left( \cosh\left[ n(N-N')+1 \right] \right)^{-1}$. We find that the power spectrum of curvature perturbations $\mathcal{P}_ζ$ is suppressed at early $e$-folds, with the suppression controlled by $n$. Furthermore, we use the leading order, exponentially correlated noise and perform a first passage time analysis to compute the statistics of the stochastic $e$-fold distribution $\mathcal{N}$ and derive an approximate expression for the mean number of $e$-folds $\big\langle \mathcal{N} \big\rangle$. Comparing analytical results with numerical simulations of the inflaton dynamics, we show that the leading order noise correlation function can be used as a very good approximation of the exact noise, the latter being more difficult to simulate.

Locally AdS$_{d-1}\times\mathbb{R}$ uniform black strings (UBS) in the presence of a massless scalar field are believed to avoid the onset of the Gregory-Laflamme (GL) instability in $d\ge4$ as no tachyonic modes exist in the spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami operator. We present analytic and numerical evidence of GL modes in the Lichnerowicz spectrum indicating that AdS$_{d-1}$ UBSs are classically and thermodynamically unstable at the linear level in $d>4$. In $d=4$, we confirm that uniform BTZ$_3$ strings are indeed stable as previously suggested. We propose that linear instabilities of black strings are triggered if and only if a tachyonic mode exists in the Lichnerowicz spectrum. At the end state of the instability, AdS$_{d-1}$ UBSs of finite length may tunnel to a SAdS$_d$ black hole or converge onto a novel non-uniform AdS$_d$ black string. We conjecture that weak cosmic censorship is violated if the non-uniform solution is an exact AdS$_d$ black funnel and compute entropy estimates in $d>4$ as evidence.

In this paper, the formation of primordial black holes (PBHs) is reinvestigated using inflationary $α$-attractors. Instead of using the conventional Press-Schechter theory to compute the abundance, the optimized peaks theory is used, which was developed in Ref. \cite{Yoo:2018kvb,Yoo:2020dkz}. This method takes into account how curvature perturbations play a rôle in modifying the mass of primordial black holes. Analyzing the model proposed in \cite{Mahbub:2019uhl} it is seen that the horizon mass of the collapsed Hubble patch is larger by $\mathcal{O}(10)$ compared to the usual computation. Moreover, PBHs can be formed from curvature power spectrum, $\mathcal{P}_ζ(k)$, peaked at lower values using numerically favored threshold overdensities. As a result of the generally larger masses predicted, the peak of the power spectrum can be placed at larger $k$ modes than that is typical with which potential future constraints on the primordial power spectrum through gravitational waves (GWs) can be evaded.

We present a complete numerical treatment of inflationary dynamics under the influence of stochastic corrections from sub-Hubble modes. We discuss how to exactly model the stochastic noise terms arising from the sub-Hubble quantum modes that give rise to the coarse-grained inflaton dynamics in the form of stochastic differential equations. The stochastic differential equations are solved event-by-event on a discrete time grid. We then compute the power spectrum of curvature perturbations that can be compared with the power spectrum computed in the traditional fashion using the Mukhanov-Sasaki equation by canonically quantizing the inflaton fluctuations. Our numerical procedure helps us to easily extend the formalism to ultra slow-roll inflation and study the possibility of primordial black hole formation.

It has been recently established that, if the nonlinear relationship between the overdensity perturbations and the curvature perturbations are taken into account, non-Gaussianity is introduced in the overdensity statistics which alters the expected primordial black hole abundance. This is explored by using the nonlinear relationship between the overdensities and curvature perturbations up to second order where a negative skewness and positive kurtosis aims at lowering and increasing the abundance while an abundance comparable to Gaussian perturbations is obtained by adjusting the amplitude of the curvature power spectrum. The effects of the nonvanishing skewness and kurtosis are studied using a toy model Dirac delta and lognormal curvature power spectra as well as one obtained from an $α-$attractor model capable of primordial black hole production. Finally, the nonlinear calculations using Press-Schechter are compared with peaks theory.

The formation of primordial black holes is studied using superconformal inflationary $α$-attractors. An inflaton potential is constructed with a plateau-like region which brings about the onset of an ultra slow-roll region where the required enhancement in the curvature power spectrum takes place. This is accomplished by carefully fine-tuning the parameters in the potential. For the parameter sets, the amount of observable inflation is such that the curvature perturbation $\mathcal{P}_{\mathcal{R}}$ peaks at $\sim 10^{14}\text{Mpc}^{-1}$, producing PBHs in the mass window $10^{16}\text{g}\leq M \leq 10^{18}\text{g}$. The reheating period after inflation is taken into account to determine whether or not PBH formation takes place in such a phase. Finally, the spectrum of second order gravitational waves, that can arise due to the curvature perturbation enhancement, is calculated.

Due to simultaneous substitution of Gd and Mn in BiFeO$_3$, the crystal structure has been modified from rhombohedral (R3c) to orthorhombic (Pn21a) and the Fe-O-Fe bond angle and Fe-O bond length have been changed. For Mn do** up to 10 % in Bi$_{0.85}$Gd$_{0.15}$Fe$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$O$_3$ nanoparticles, the saturation magnetization (Ms) has been enhanced significantly, however, for a further increase of do** up to 15 %, the Ms has started to reduce again. The co-substitution of Gd and Mn in BiFeO$_3$ nanoparticles also demonstrates a strong reduction in the optical band gap energy and electrical resistivity compared to that of undoped BiFeO$_3$.
