The thermal conductivity k of the iron-arsenide superconductor K-Ba122 was measured down to 50 mK in a magnetic field up to 15 T, for a heat current parallel and perpendicular to the tetragonal c axis. In the range from optimal do** (x ~ 0.4) down to x = 0.16, there is no residual linear term in k(T) at T = 0, showing that there are no nodes in the superconducting gap anywhere on the Fermi surface. Upon crossing below x = 0.16, a large residual linear term suddenly appears, signaling the onset of nodes in the superconducting gap, most likely vertical line nodes running along the c axis. We discuss two scenarios: 1) accidental nodes in an s-wave gap, resulting from a strong modulation of the gap around the Fermi surface, in which minima deepen rapidly with underdo**; 2) a phase transition from a nodeless s-wave state to a d-wave state, in which nodes are imposed by symmetry.

The correlation and competition between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity are one of the most fundamental issues in all of high temperature superconductors. The superconductivity in high temperature cuprate superconductors arises from suppressing an antiferromagnetic (AFM) Mott insulator phase by do**1 while that in iron-pnictide high temperature superconductors arises from AFM semimetals and can coexist with AFM orders2-9. This key difference marked in their phase diagrams has raised many intriguing debates about whether the two materials can be placed in the same category to understand the mechanism of superconductivity. Recently, superconductivity at 32 K has been reported in iron-chalcogenide superconductors AxFe2-ySe2 (A=K, Rb, and Cs)10-12, which have the same structure as that of iron-pnictide AFe2As2 (A=Ba, Sr, Ca and K)13-15. Here, we report electronic and magnetic phase diagram of KxFe2-ySe2 system as a function of Fe valence. We find two AFM insulating phases and reveal that the superconducting phase is sandwiched between them, and give direct evidence that the superconductivity in AxFe2-ySe2 originates from the AFM insulating parent compounds. The two insulating phases are characterized by two distinct superstructures caused by Fe vacancy orders with modulation wave vectors of q1=(1/5, 3/5, 0) and q2=(1/4, 3/4, 0), respectively. These experimental results strongly indicate that iron-based superconductors and cuprates share a common origin and mechanism of superconductivity.

One key feature of the organic superconductors is that they have π-molecular orbitals, and the π-electron can delocalize throughout the crystal giving rise to metallic conductivity due to a π-orbital overlap between adjacent molecules. The introduction of charge into C60 solids and graphites with π-electron networks by do** to realize superconductivity has been extensively reported3,4. Very recently, superconductivity in alkali-metal doped picene with π-electron networks was reported5. Here we report the discovery of superconductivity in potassium doped Phenanthrene with TC~5 K. TC increases with increasing pressure, and the pressure of 1 GPa leads to an increase of 20% in TC, suggesting that the potassium doped phenanthrene shows unconventional superconductivity. Both phenanthrene and picene are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and contain three and five fused benzene rings, respectively. The ribbon of fused benzene rings is part of graphene. Therefore, the discovery of superconductivity in K3Phenanthrene produces a novel broad class of superconductors consisting of fused hydrocarbon benzene rings with π-electron networks. The fact that TC increases from 5 K for KxPhenanthrene with three benzene rings to 18 K for Kxpicene with five benzene rings suggests that such organic hydrocarbons with long benzene rings is potential superconductor with high TC.

It indicates the coexistence of superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. A sharp increase in resistivity arises from the structural transition due to Fe vacancy ordering at the temperature slightly higher than $T_{\rm N}$. Occurrence of superconductivity in an antiferromagnetic ordered state with so high $T_{\rm N}$ may suggest new physics in this type of unconventional superconductors.

We studied the correlation among structure and transport properties and superconductivity in the different $A_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$ single crystals ($A$ = K, Rb, and Cs). Two sets of (00$l$) reflections are observed in the X-ray single crystal diffraction patterns, and arise from the intrinsic inhomogeneous distribution of the intercalated alkali atoms. The occurrence of superconductivity is closely related to the {\sl c}-axis lattice constant, and the $A$ content is crucial to superconductivity. The hump observed in resistivity seems to be irrelevant to superconductivity. There exist many deficiencies within the FeSe layers in $A_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$, while their $T_{\rm c}$ does not change so much. In this sense, superconductivity is robust to the Fe and Se vacancies. Very high resistivity in the normal state should arise from such defects in the conducting FeSe layers. $A_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$ ($A$ = K, Rb, and Cs) single crystals show the same susceptibility behavior in the normal state, and no anomaly is observed in susceptibility at the hump temperature in resistivity. The clear jump in specific heat for Rb$_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$ and K$_x$Fe$_2$Se$_2$ single crystals shows the good bulk superconductivity in these crystals.

Two batches of single crystals $K_xFe_2Se_2$ with different transition temperatures ($T_c$) were used to study the effect of pressure. The $T_c$ of the first one gradually decreases with increasing pressure from 32.6 K at ambient pressure. While a dome-like behavior was observed for the crystal with $T_c=31.1$ K, and $T_c$ reaches its maximum value of 32.7 K at the pressure of 0.48 GPa. It indicates that there exists a optimal do** with maximum $T_c$ of 32.7K in $K_xFe_2Se_2$ system. The behavior of $T_c$ vs. pressure for $Cs_xFe_2Se_2$ also shows a dome-like behavior, and $T_c$ reaches its maximum value of 31.1 K at the pressure of 0.82 GPa. The hump observed in temperature dependence of resistivity for all the samples tends to shift to high temperature with increasing pressure. The resistivity hump could arise from the vacancy of Fe or Se.

Much larger upper critical field $H_{\rm c2}$ is inferred from low-temperature iso-magnetic-field magnetoresistance in these crystals than in FeSe. The anisotropy $H^{ab}_{\rm c2}$(0)/$H^{c}_{\rm c2}$(0) is around 3 for both of the two materials. Anisotropic peculiar magnetic behavior in normal state has been found for $Cs_{0.86}Fe_{1.66}Se_{2}$

DC susceptibility indicates an antiferromagnetic transition at about 450 K. Reentrant spin-glass (RSG) behavior was found at about 130 K through DC and AC magnetic measurements. The RSG behavior suggests the existence of a strong competition between ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) interactions due to Fe deficiencies. Strong electron-electron correlation may exist in this material and it is possibly a candidate of parent compound for high $T_c$ superconductors.

The magnetic susceptibility indicated an antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition at around 160K and strong anisotropic magnetic properties below T$_N$ for the former compound, which suggests a long-range canted AFM ordering. A broad maximum of the susceptibility can be observed for the two compound at high temperatures, say 360 K and 210 K respectively, suggesting that strong magnetic correlation gives rise to low-dimensional AFM or short-range ordering at high temperatures in these rare transition metal oxychalcogenides with a frustrated AFM checkerboard spin lattice.

The thermal conductivity k of the iron-arsenide superconductor Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2 was measured down to 50 mK for a heat current parallel (k_c) and perpendicular (k_a) to the tetragonal c axis, for seven Co concentrations from underdoped to overdoped regions of the phase diagram (0.038 < x < 0.127). A residual linear term k_c0/T is observed in the T = 0 limit when the current is along the c axis, revealing the presence of nodes in the gap. Because the nodes appear as x moves away from the concentration of maximal T_c, they must be accidental, not imposed by symmetry, and are therefore compatible with an s_{+/-} state, for example. The fact that the in-plane residual linear term k_a0/T is negligible at all x implies that the nodes are located in regions of the Fermi surface that contribute strongly to c-axis conduction and very little to in-plane conduction. Application of a moderate magnetic field (e.g. H_c2/4) excites quasiparticles that conduct heat along the a axis just as well as the nodal quasiparticles conduct along the c axis. This shows that the gap must be very small (but non-zero) in regions of the Fermi surface which contribute significantly to in-plane conduction. These findings can be understood in terms of a strong k dependence of the gap Delta(k) which produces nodes on a Fermi surface sheet with pronounced c-axis dispersion and deep minima on the remaining, quasi-two-dimensional sheets.

In zero magnetic field, a negligible residual linear term in $κ/T$ as $T \to 0$ at all $x$ shows that there are no zero-energy quasiparticles and hence the superconducting gap has no nodes in the $ab$-plane anywhere in the phase diagram. However, the field dependence of $κ$ reveals a systematic evolution of the superconducting gap with do** $x$, from large everywhere on the Fermi surface in the underdoped regime, as evidenced by a flat $κ(H)$ at $T \to 0$, to strongly $k$-dependent in the overdoped regime, where a small magnetic field can induce a large residual linear term, indicative of a deep minimum in the gap magnitude somewhere on the Fermi surface. This shows that the superconducting gap structure has a strongly $k$-dependent amplitude around the Fermi surface only outside the antiferromagnetic/orthorhombic phase.

A negligible residual linear term in $κ/T$ as $T \to 0$ shows that there are no zero-energy quasiparticles in the superconducting state. This rules out the existence of line and in-plane point nodes in the superconducting gap, imposing strong constraints on the symmetry of the order parameter. It excludes d-wave symmetry, drawing a clear distinction between these superconductors and the high-$T_c$ cuprates. However, the fact that a magnetic field much smaller than $H_{c2}$ can induce a residual linear term indicates that the gap must be very small on part of the Fermi surface, whether from strong anisotropy or band dependence, or both.

Detailed electronic structure of such a highly strained oxide interfaces is revealed for the first time. We found that under the two incommensurate crystal fields, electrons are confined within individual sides of the interface, and scattered by umklapp scattering of the crystal field from the other side. In addition, the high strain on the rocksalt layer raises its chemical potential and induces large charge transfer to the CoO$_{2}$ layer. Furthermore, a novel interface effects, the interfacial enhancement of electron-phonon interactions, is discovered. Our findings of these electronic properties lay a foundation for designing future functional oxide interfaces.

Resistivity under magnetic field, thermopower and Hall coefficient are systematically studied for [Bi$_2$Ba$_{1.3}$K$_{0.6}$Co$_{0.1}$]$^{RS}$[CoO$_2$]$_{1.97}$ single crystal. In-plane resistivity ($ρ_{ab}$(T)) shows metallic behavior down to 2 K with a $T^2$ dependence below 30 K; while out-of-plane resistivity ($ρ_{c}(T)$) shows metallic behavior at high temperature and a thermal activation semiconducting behavior below about 12 K. Striking feature is that magnetic field induces a ln(1/$T$) diverging behavior in both $ρ_{ab}$ and $ρ_{c}(T)$ at low temperature. The positive magnetoresistance (MR) could be well fitted by the formula based on multi-band electronic structure. The ln(1/$T$) diverging behavior in $ρ_{ab}$ and $ρ_{c}(T)$ could arise from the magnetic-field-induced 2D weak localization or spin density wave.

The misfit cobaltite [Ca$_2$Bi$_{1.4}$Co$_{0.6}$O$_4$]$^{RS}$[CoO$_2$]$_{1.69}$ single crystals with quadruple ($n$=4) rocksalt (RS) layer are achieved with cooling from 900$\celsius$. Such crystal exhibits room-temperature thermoelectric power (TEP) of 180$μ$V/K, much larger than that in Sr-based misfit cobaltites with quadruple RS layer. However, intergrowth of single crystals of quadruple ($n$=4) and triple ($n$=3) RS-type layer-based misfit cobaltites is observed with cooling from 950$\celsius$. Both of TEP and resistivity were obviously enhanced by the intergrowth compared to [Ca$_2$Bi$_{1.4}$Co$_{0.6}$O$_4$]$^{RS}$[CoO$_2$]$_{1.69}$ single crystal, while the power factor at room temperature remains unchanged.

Such unconventional nucleation leads to a decease in resistivity by several orders with relaxation at a fixed temperature without external perturbation. The novel dynamical process could arise from the competition of strain fields, Coulomb interactions, magnetic correlations and disorders. Such competition may frustrate the nucleation, giving rise to a slow, nonexponential relaxation and "physical aging" behavior.

After CDW state is completely suppressed around x=0.055, the superconductivity is apparently enhanced by Cu do**. No superconducting transition is observed above 1.8 K for Cu$_{0.11}$TiSe$_{2}$. Anisotropy in resistivity increases with increasing Cu content, and is nearly $T$-independent. CDW state has a strong effect on Hall coefficient and thermopower. A large thermopower, comparable to the triangle lattice $NaxCoO_2$, is observed in Cu$_{x}$TiSe$_{2}$. Intercalation of Cu induces a negative MR due to the interaction between conducting carries and localized magnetic moments.

The isothermal magnetoresistance (MR) with magnetic field (H) parallel to and perpendicular to ab plane is systematically studied on the single crystal Na$_{0.52}$CoO$_2$ with charge ordering at $\sim 50$ K and an in-plane ferromagnetism below 25 K. The isothermal MR behavior with H $\parallel$ ab plane and H $\perp$ ab plane is quite different. When H $\parallel$ ab plane, the MR is always negative and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is enhanced. While the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane changes from negative to positive with decreasing temperature or increasing H, and the in-plane ferromagnetic behavior is suppressed. A striking feature is that the MR with H $\perp$ ab plane shows a hysteresis behavior below 25 K, which is absent for the case of H $\parallel$ ab plane. These results provide strong evidence for a spin-flop transition of small moments of Co$^{3.5-δ}$ sites induced by H $\perp$ ab plane, leading to a metamagnetic transition for small moments of Co$^{3.5-δ}$ sites. These complex magnetism suggests an unconventional superconductivity in Na$_x$CoO$_2$ system because the Na$_x$CoO$_2$ around x=0.5 is considered to be the parent compound of superconductivity.

In this nominally "undoped" system, superconductivity was acquired in certain Y do** range ($0.10\leq x \leq 0.20$). Measurements of resistivity, Hall coefficients in normal states and resistive critical field ($H^ρ_{c2}$)in superconducting states of the T'-LYCO films show the similar behavior as the known Ce-doped n-type cuprate superconductors, indicating the intrinsic electron-do** nature. The charge carriers are induced by oxygen deficiency. Non-superconducting Y-doped Pr- or Nd-based T'-phase cuprate films were also investigated for comparison, suggesting the crucial role of the radii of A-site cations in the origin of superconductivity in the nominally "undoped" cuptates. Based on a reasonable scenario in the microscopic reduction process, we put forward a self-consistent interpretation of these experimental observations.

A striking feature is that effect of oxygen isotope on the ferromagnetic transition is negligible in the metallic phase, while replacing $^{16}O$ with $^{18}O$ leads to a giant up-shift of the spin-state transition temperature ($T_s$) in the insulating phase, especially $T_s$ shifts from 36 to 54 K with isotope component $α_S=-4.7$ for the sample with x=0.175. A metal-insulator transition is induced by oxygen isotope exchange in the sample x=0.172 being close to the insulating phase. The contrasting behaviors observed in the two phases can be well explained by occurrence of static Jahn-Teller distortions in the insulating phase, while absence of them in the metallic phase.

Oxygen isotope substitution is performed in the perovskite cobalt oxide (Pr$_{0.7}$Sm$_{0.3}$)$_{0.7}$Ca$_{0.3}$CoO${_3}$ which shows a sharp spin state transition from the intermediate spin (IS) state to the low spin (LS) state at a certain temperature. The transition temperature of the spin state up-shifts with the substitution of $^{16}O$ by $^{18}$O from the resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The up-shift value is 6.8 K and an oxygen isotope exponent ($α_S$) is about -0.8. The large oxygen isotope effect indicates strong electron-phonon coupling in this material. The substitution of $^{16}$O by $^{18}$O leads to a decrease in the frequency of phonon and an increase in the effective mass of electron ($m$$^\ast$), so that the bandwidth W is decreased and the energy difference between the different spin states is increased. This is the reason why the $T_s$ is shifted to high temperature with oxygen isotopic exchange.

The as-fabricated samples exhibit ferromagnetic (FM) transition and the transition temperature increases with increasing the iron do** level. Annealing under high oxygen pressure induces a spin-state transition of Co ions in the \emph{iron-free} sample and such transition is reinforced with increasing the annealing oxygen pressure, while the annealing under high oxygen pressure suppresses the ferromagnetic ordering. Contrary to the case of the \emph{iron-free} sample, no spin-state transition is induced by the annealing under high oxygen pressure for the \emph{iron-doped} samples, and the ferromagnetic transition temperature is nearly independent of the annealing procedures. The enhancement of the spin-state transition in the \emph{iron-free} sample after annealing under high oxygen pressure should be attributed to the reduction of the cell volume. The suppression of the spin-state transition by the Fe do** is related to the enlargement of the cell volume and the stronger Fe-O bonds than Co-O bonds. The enhancement of the ferromagnetism by the iron-do** might arise from the ferromagnetic exchange interaction between Fe$^{3+}$ and Co$^{4+}$ through oxygen (Fe$^{3+}$-O-Co$^{4+}$).

The out-of-plane MR is positive in high temperatures and increases with decreasing $T$, and exhibits a pronounced hump, and changes the sign from positive to negative at a centain temperature. These results strongly suggest that the observed MR consists of two contributions: one \emph{negative} and one \emph{positive} component. The isothermal MR in high magnetic fields follows a $H^2$ law. While the negative contribution comes from spin scattering of carriers by localized-magnetic-moments based on the Khosla-Fischer model.

Magnetic and transport properties of $Co Sr_2 Y_{1-x} Ca_x Cu_2 O_7$ ($x=0 \sim 0.4$) system have been investigated. A broad maximum in M(T) curve, indicative of low-dimensional antiferromagnetic ordering originated from $CoO_{1+δ}$ layers, is observed in Ca-free sample. With increasing Ca do** level up to 0.2, the M(T) curve remains almost unchanged, while resistivity is reduced by three orders. Higher Ca do** level leads to a drastic change of magnetic properties. In comparison with the samples with $x=0.0 \sim 0.2$, the temperature corresponding to the maximum of M(T) is much lowered for the sample $x$=0.3. The sample $x$=0.4 shows a small kink instead of a broad maximum and a weak ferromagnetic feature. The electrical transport behavior is found to be closely related to magnetic properties for the sample $x$=0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4. It suggests that $CoO_{1+δ}$ layers are involved in charge transport in addition to conducting $CuO_2$ planes to interpret the correlation between magnetism and charge transport. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies give an additional evidence of the the transfer of the holes into the $CoO_{1+δ}$ charge reservoir.

We report infrared spectra of a Na$_{0.5}$CoO$_2$ single crystal which exhibits a sharp metal-insulator transition near 50 K due to the formation of charge ordering. In comparison with x=0.7 and 0.85 compounds, we found that the spectral weight associated with the conducting carriers at high temperature increases systematically with decreasing Na contents. The charge ordering transition only affects the optical spectra below 1000 cm$^{-1}$. A hump near 800 cm$^{-1}$ develops below 100 K, which is accompanied by the appearance of new lattice modes as well as the strong anti-resonance feature of phonon spectra. At lower temperature $T_{co}$, an optical gap develops at the magnitude of 2$Δ\approx3.5k_BT_{co}$, evidencing an insulating charge density wave ground state. Our experimental results and analysis unequivocally point towards the importance of charge ordering instability and strong electron-phonon interaction in Na$_x$CoO$_2$ system.

The normal state resistivtity, upper critical field $H_{c2}$ and Hall coefficient $R_H$ in superconducting perovskite $MgCNi_3$ ($T_c \approx 8 K$) have been studied. Above 70 K, $ρ(T)$ fits well curve predicted by Bloch-Grüneisen theory consistently with electron-phonon scattering. $H_{c2}(0)$ was estimated to be about 15.0 Tesla within the weak-coupling BCS theory, and the superconducting coherence length $ξ(0)$ is approximately 47 Å. $R_H$ of $MgCNi_3$ is negative for the whole temperature range which definitely indicates that the carrier in $MgCNi_3$ is electron-type. $R_H$ is temperature independent between $T_c$ and $\sim$ 140 K. Above $\sim$ 140 K, the magnitude of $R_H$ decreases as temperature rises. At T = 100 K, the carrier density is $1.0 \times 10^{22}/cm^3$, which is comparable with that in perovskite $(Ba,K)BiO_3$, and less than that of the metallic binary $MgB_2$.
