$σ[e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow γχ_{c1}(3872)] \mathcal{B}[χ_{c1}(3872) \rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}η]$ at center-of-mass energies from 4.13 to 4.34 GeV are determined.
By normalizing to the $χ_{c1}(3872)\toπ^+π^- J/ψ$ decay channel, a 90\% confidence level upper limit for the branching fraction ratio
$\mathcal{R}=\mathcal{B}[χ_{c1}(3872) \rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}η]/\mathcal{B}[χ_{c1}(3872) \rightarrow π^{+}π^{-} J/ψ] < 0.12$ is given.
These measurements provide important inputs for understanding the internal structure of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ resonance.

Sound events in daily life carry rich information about the objective world. The composition of these sounds affects the mood of people in a soundscape. Most previous approaches only focus on classifying and detecting audio events and scenes, but may ignore their perceptual quality that may impact humans' listening mood for the environment, e.g. annoyance. To this end, this paper proposes a novel hierarchical graph representation learning (HGRL) approach which links objective audio events (AE) with subjective annoyance ratings (AR) of the soundscape perceived by humans. The hierarchical graph consists of fine-grained event (fAE) embeddings with single-class event semantics, coarse-grained event (cAE) embeddings with multi-class event semantics, and AR embeddings. Experiments show the proposed HGRL successfully integrates AE with AR for AEC and ARP tasks, while coordinating the relations between cAE and fAE and further aligning the two different grains of AE information with the AR.

Non-communicable disease is the leading cause of death, emphasizing the need for accurate prediction of disease progression and informed clinical decision-making. Machine learning (ML) models have shown promise in this domain by capturing non-linear patterns within patient features. However, existing ML-based models cannot provide causal interpretable predictions and estimate treatment effects, limiting their decision-making perspective. In this study, we propose a novel model called causal trajectory prediction (CTP) to tackle the limitation. The CTP model combines trajectory prediction and causal discovery to enable accurate prediction of disease progression trajectories and uncover causal relationships between features. By incorporating a causal graph into the prediction process, CTP ensures that ancestor features are not influenced by the treatment of descendant features, thereby enhancing the interpretability of the model. By estimating the bounds of treatment effects, even in the presence of unmeasured confounders, the CTP provides valuable insights for clinical decision-making. We evaluate the performance of the CTP using simulated and real medical datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves satisfactory performance, highlighting its potential to assist clinical decisions. Semi-Supervised image classification is one of the most fundamental problem in computer vision, which significantly reduces the need for human labor. In this paper, we introduce a new semi-supervised learning algorithm - SimMatchV2, which formulates various consistency regularizations between labeled and unlabeled data from the graph perspective. In SimMatchV2, we regard the augmented view of a sample as a node, which consists of a label and its corresponding representation. Different nodes are connected with the edges, which are measured by the similarity of the node representations. Inspired by the message passing and node classification in graph theory, we propose four types of consistencies, namely 1) node-node consistency, 2) node-edge consistency, 3) edge-edge consistency, and 4) edge-node consistency. We also uncover that a simple feature normalization can reduce the gaps of the feature norm between different augmented views, significantly improving the performance of SimMatchV2. Our SimMatchV2 has been validated on multiple semi-supervised learning benchmarks. Notably, with ResNet-50 as our backbone and 300 epochs of training, SimMatchV2 achieves 71.9\% and 76.2\% Top-1 Accuracy with 1\% and 10\% labeled examples on ImageNet, which significantly outperforms the previous methods and achieves state-of-the-art performance. Equip** a deep model the abaility of few-shot learning, i.e., learning quickly from only few examples, is a core challenge for artificial intelligence. Gradient-based meta-learning approaches effectively address the challenge by learning how to learn novel tasks. Its key idea is learning a deep model in a bi-level optimization manner, where the outer-loop process learns a shared gradient descent algorithm (i.e., its hyperparameters), while the inner-loop process leverage it to optimize a task-specific model by using only few labeled data. Although these existing methods have shown superior performance, the outer-loop process requires calculating second-order derivatives along the inner optimization path, which imposes considerable memory burdens and the risk of vanishing gradients. Drawing inspiration from recent progress of diffusion models, we find that the inner-loop gradient descent process can be actually viewed as a reverse process (i.e., denoising) of diffusion where the target of denoising is model weights but the origin data. Based on this fact, in this paper, we propose to model the gradient descent optimizer as a diffusion model and then present a novel task-conditional diffusion-based meta-learning, called MetaDiff, that effectively models the optimization process of model weights from Gaussion noises to target weights in a denoising manner. Thanks to the training efficiency of diffusion models, our MetaDiff do not need to differentiate through the inner-loop path such that the memory burdens and the risk of vanishing gradients can be effectvely alleviated. Experiment results show that our MetaDiff outperforms the state-of-the-art gradient-based meta-learning family in few-shot learning tasks.

Weakly-supervised temporal action localization (WTAL) is a practical yet challenging task. Due to large-scale datasets, most existing methods use a network pretrained in other datasets to extract features, which are not suitable enough for WTAL. To address this problem, researchers design several modules for feature enhancement, which improve the performance of the localization module, especially modeling the temporal relationship between snippets. However, all of them neglect the adverse effects of ambiguous information, which would reduce the discriminability of others. Considering this phenomenon, we propose Discriminability-Driven Graph Network (DDG-Net), which explicitly models ambiguous snippets and discriminative snippets with well-designed connections, preventing the transmission of ambiguous information and enhancing the discriminability of snippet-level representations. Additionally, we propose feature consistency loss to prevent the assimilation of features and drive the graph convolution network to generate more discriminative representations. Extensive experiments on THUMOS14 and ActivityNet1.2 benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of DDG-Net, establishing new state-of-the-art results on both datasets. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the $Σ^{+}$ electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be $\sinΔΦ$ = -0.67~$\pm$~0.29~(stat)~$\pm$~0.18~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.3960 GeV, $ΔΦ$ = 55$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~19$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~14$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.6454 GeV, and 78$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~22$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~9$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.9000 GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. The evolution of the phase along with four-momentum transfer is an important input for understanding its asymptotic behavior and the dynamics of baryons.

Common deep learning models for 3D environment perception often use pillarization/voxelization methods to convert point cloud data into pillars/voxels and then process it with a 2D/3D convolutional neural network (CNN). The pioneer work PointNet has been widely applied as a local feature descriptor, a fundamental component in deep learning models for 3D perception, to extract features of a point cloud. This is achieved by using a symmetric max-pooling operator which provides unique pillar/voxel features. However, by ignoring most of the points, the max-pooling operator causes an information loss, which reduces the model performance. To address this issue, we propose a novel local feature descriptor, mini-PointNetPlus, as an alternative for plug-and-play to PointNet. Our basic idea is to separately project the data points to the individual features considered, each leading to a permutation invariant. Thus, the proposed descriptor transforms an unordered point cloud to a stable order. The vanilla PointNet is proved to be a special case of our mini-PointNetPlus. Due to fully utilizing the features by the proposed descriptor, we demonstrate in experiment a considerable performance improvement for 3D perception.

The branching fractions of $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ are determined to be $(2.235\pm0.051_{\rm stat}\pm0.052_{\rm syst})\%$ and $(0.801\pm0.055_{\rm stat}\pm0.028_{\rm syst})\%$, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays $D_s^+ \to ηe^+ν_e$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\prime e^+ν_e$, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several $\ell^+ν_\ell$ four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are $f^η_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.452\pm0.010_{\rm stat}\pm0.007_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{η^{\prime}}_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.504\pm0.037_{\rm stat}\pm0.012_{\rm syst}$, which help to constrain present models on $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$. The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be $\langle A_{\rm FB}^η\rangle=-0.059\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm0.005_{\rm syst}$ and $\langle A_{\rm FB}^{η^\prime}\rangle=-0.064\pm0.079_{\rm stat}\pm0.006_{\rm syst}$ for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation.

This result is in agreement with the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model prediction of $n=3.5\pm 0.9$. In addition, the charmless decay $ψ(3770)\toφη'$ is searched for by fitting the measured cross sections, yet no significant signal is observed. The upper limit of ${\cal B}(ψ(3770)\toφη')$ at the 90\% confidence level is determined to be $2.3\times 10^{-5}$.

We observe three resonances: $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$ with significances of $8.1σ$, $13.7σ$, and $8.8σ$, respectively. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state is observed for the first time, while the $\mathcal R(3760)$ and $\mathcal R(3780)$ states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the $\mathcal R(3810)$ state has mass $(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$ [$(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$] MeV/$c^2$, total width $(11.6 \pm 2.9 \pm 1.9)$ [$(11.5 \pm 2.8 \pm 1.9)$] MeV, and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of $(10.9\pm 3.8\pm 2.5)$ [$(11.0\pm 3.4\pm 2.5)$] eV. In addition, we measure the branching fractions ${\mathcal B}[{\mathcal R}(3760)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(25.2 \pm 16.1 \pm 30.4)\% [(6.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.7)\%]$ and ${\mathcal B}[\mathcal R(3780)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(12.3 \pm 6.6 \pm 8.3)\% [(10.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.0)\%]$ for the first time. The $\mathcal R(3760)$ state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state can be interpreted as a hadrocharmonium state.

Modeling customer shop** intentions is a crucial task for e-commerce, as it directly impacts user experience and engagement. Thus, accurately understanding customer preferences is essential for providing personalized recommendations. Session-based recommendation, which utilizes customer session data to predict their next interaction, has become increasingly popular. However, existing session datasets have limitations in terms of item attributes, user diversity, and dataset scale. As a result, they cannot comprehensively capture the spectrum of user behaviors and preferences. To bridge this gap, we present the Amazon Multilingual Multi-locale Shop** Session Dataset, namely Amazon-M2. It is the first multilingual dataset consisting of millions of user sessions from six different locales, where the major languages of products are English, German, Japanese, French, Italian, and Spanish. Remarkably, the dataset can help us enhance personalization and understanding of user preferences, which can benefit various existing tasks as well as enable new tasks. To test the potential of the dataset, we introduce three tasks in this work: (1) next-product recommendation, (2) next-product recommendation with domain shifts, and (3) next-product title generation. With the above tasks, we benchmark a range of algorithms on our proposed dataset, drawing new insights for further research and practice. In addition, based on the proposed dataset and tasks, we hosted a competition in the KDD CUP 2023 and have attracted thousands of users and submissions. The winning solutions and the associated workshop can be accessed at our website https://kddcup23.github.io/.

Almost all of the previous state-of-the-art LiDAR semantic segmentation methods are variants of sparse 3D convolution. Although the Transformer architecture is becoming popular in the field of natural language processing and 2D computer vision, its application to large-scale point cloud semantic segmentation is still limited. In this paper, we propose a LiDAR sEmantic Segmentation architecture with pure Transformer, LEST. LEST comprises two novel components: a Space Filling Curve (SFC) Grou** strategy and a Distance-based Cosine Linear Transformer, DISCO. On the public nuScenes semantic segmentation validation set and SemanticKITTI test set, our model outperforms all the other state-of-the-art methods.

We aim to investigate whether end-to-end learning of visual reasoning can be achieved with general-purpose neural networks, with the help of visual pretraining. A positive result would refute the common belief that explicit visual abstraction (e.g. object detection) is essential for compositional generalization on visual reasoning, and confirm the feasibility of a neural network "generalist" to solve visual recognition and reasoning tasks. We propose a simple and general self-supervised framework which "compresses" each video frame into a small set of tokens with a transformer network, and reconstructs the remaining frames based on the compressed temporal context. To minimize the reconstruction loss, the network must learn a compact representation for each image, as well as capture temporal dynamics and object permanence from temporal context. We perform evaluation on two visual reasoning benchmarks, CATER and ACRE. We observe that pretraining is essential to achieve compositional generalization for end-to-end visual reasoning. Our proposed framework outperforms traditional supervised pretraining, including image classification and explicit object detection, by large margins.

We study the process $e^{+}e^{-}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\barΛ_c^{-}$ at twelve center-of-mass energies from $4.6119$ to $4.9509~\mathrm{GeV}$ using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross sections and effective form factors ($|G_{\mathrm{eff}}|$) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process $Λ_{c}^{+}\to pK^{-}π^{+}$. Flat cross sections around $4.63~\mathrm{GeV}$ are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure $Y(4630)$, as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the $|G_{\mathrm{eff}}|$ energy-dependence of $Λ_{c}^{+}$, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the $Λ_{c}^{+}$ baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors ($|G_{E}|$ and $|G_{M}|$) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy-dependence of the form factor ratio $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.

MgSiO_3-perovskite (MgPv) plays a crucial role in the Earth's lower mantle. This study combines deep-learning potential (DP) with density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the structural and elastic properties of MgPv under lower mantle conditions. To simulate complex systems, we developed a series of potentials capable of faithfully reproducing DFT calculations using different functionals, such as LDA, PBE, PBEsol, and SCAN meta-GGA functionals. The obtained predictions exhibit remarkable reliability and consistency, closely resembling experimental measurements. Our results highlight the superior performance of the DP-SCAN and DP-LDA in accurately predicting high-temperature equations of states and elastic properties. This hybrid computational approach offers a solution to the accuracy-efficiency dilemma in obtaining precise elastic properties at high pressure and temperature conditions for minerals like MgPv, which opens a new way to study the Earth's interior state and related processes.

Elastic microphase separation refers to equilibrium patterns that form by phase separation in elastic gels. Recent experiments revealed a continuous phase transition from the homogeneous phase to a regularly patterned phase, whose period decreased for stiffer systems. We here propose a model that captures these observations. The model combines a continuous field of the elastic component to describe phase separation with nonlocal elasticity theory to capture the gel's microstructure. Analytical approximations unveil that the pattern period is determined by the geometric mean between the elasto-capillary length and a microscopic length scale of the gel. Our theory highlights the importance of nonlocal elasticity in soft matter systems, reveals the mechanism of elastic microphase separation, and will improve the engineering of such systems.

The absolute branching fraction is measured as ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ) = (2.25\pm 0.09 \pm 0.07) \times10^{-2}$, the most precise measurement to date. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is$\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)} = 0.94\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton universality. By performing a partial wave analysis, the hadronic form factor ratios at $q^{2}=0$ are extracted, finding $r_{V}=\frac{V(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=1.58\pm0.17\pm0.02$ and $r_{2}=\frac{A_{2}(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=0.71\pm0.14\pm0.02$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Given a graph, a $k$-plex is a set of vertices in which each vertex is not adjacent to at most $k-1$ other vertices in the set. The maximum $k$-plex problem, which asks for the largest $k$-plex from the given graph, is an important but computationally challenging problem in applications such as graph mining and community detection. So far, there are many practical algorithms, but without providing theoretical explanations on their efficiency. We define a novel parameter of the input instance, $g_k(G)$, the gap between the degeneracy bound and the size of the maximum $k$-plex in the given graph, and present an exact algorithm parameterized by this $g_k(G)$, which has a worst-case running time polynomial in the size of the input graph and exponential in $g_k(G)$. In real-world inputs, $g_k(G)$ is very small, usually bounded by $O(\log{(|V|)})$, indicating that the algorithm runs in polynomial time. We further extend our discussion to an even smaller parameter $cg_k(G)$, the gap between the community-degeneracy bound and the size of the maximum $k$-plex, and show that without much modification, our algorithm can also be parameterized by $cg_k(G)$. To verify the empirical performance of these algorithms, we carry out extensive experiments to show that these algorithms are competitive with the state-of-the-art algorithms. In particular, for large $k$ values such as $15$ and $20$, our algorithms dominate the existing algorithms. Finally, empirical analysis is performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the parameters and other key components in the implementation.

The BESIII Collaboration claimed that a new $a_{0}(1817)$ resonance was found in the recent results of the $D_{s}^{+} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K^{+}π^{0}$ decay. For this decay process, we perform a unitary amplitude to analyze the contributions of the states $a_{0}(980)^{+}$ and $a_{0}(1710)^{+}$ with the final state interactions. Considering the Cabibbo-favored external and internal $W$-emission mechanisms at the quark level, and the contributions of the resonances $a_{0}(980)^{+}$, $a_{0}(1710)^{+}$ in the $S$-wave and $\bar{K}^{*}(892)^{0}$, ${K}^{*}(892)^{+}$ in the $P$-wave, the recent experimental data of the $K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ invariant mass spectrum from the BESIII Collaboration can be described well. In our results, the states $a_{0}(980)$ and $a_{0}(1710)$ are dynamically generated from the final state interactions of $K\bar{K}$ and $K^{*}\bar{K}^{*}$, respectively, which support the molecular nature for them. Moreover, some obtained branching fractions are in agreement with the experimental measurements.

The branching fractions obtained are $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to ηe^{+} ν_e)$ = $(2.255\pm0.039_{\rm stat}\pm 0.051_{\rm syst})\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to η^{\prime} e^{+} ν_e)$ = $(0.810\pm0.038_{\rm stat}\pm 0.024_{\rm syst})\%$. Combining these results with the $\mathcal{B}(D^+\toηe^+ ν_e)$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\toη^\prime e^+ ν_e)$ obtained from previous BESIII measurements, the $η-η^\prime$ mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be $φ_{\rm P} = (40.0\pm2.0_{\rm stat}\pm0.6_{\rm syst})^\circ$. Moreover, from the fits to the partial decay rates of $D_s^+ \to ηe^+ ν_e$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\prime e^+ ν_e$, the products of the hadronic transition form factors $f_+^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the modulus of the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined by using different hadronic transition form factor parametrizations. Based on the two-parameter series expansion, the products $f^η_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.4519\pm0.0071_{\rm stat}\pm0.0065_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{η^\prime}_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.525\pm0.024_{\rm stat}\pm0.009_{\rm syst}$ are extracted. All results determined in this work supersede those measured in the previous BESIII analyses based on the 3.19 fb$^{-1}$ subsample of data at 4.178 GeV.

Spatiotemporal patterns are often modeled using reaction-diffusion equations, which combine complex reactions between constituents with ideal diffusive motion. Such descriptions neglect physical interactions between constituents, which might affect resulting patterns. To overcome this, we study how physical interactions affect cyclic dominant reactions, like the seminal rock-paper-scissors game, which exhibits spiral waves for ideal diffusion. Generalizing diffusion to incorporate physical interactions, we find that weak interactions change the length- and time-scales of spiral waves, consistent with a map** to the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation. In contrast, strong repulsive interactions typically generate oscillating lattices, and strong attraction leads to an interplay of phase separation and chemical oscillations, like droplets co-locating with cores of spiral waves. Our work suggests that physical interactions are relevant for forming spatiotemporal patterns in nature, and it might shed light on how biodiversity is maintained in ecological settings.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has emerged as a promising two-dimensional (2D) material for many applications in photonics. Although its linear and nonlinear optical properties have been extensively studied, its interaction with high-intensity laser pulses, which is important for high-harmonic generation, fabricating quantum emitters, and maskless patterning of hBN, has not been investigated. Here we report the first study of dielectric breakdown in hBN monolayers induced by single femtosecond laser pulses. We show that hBN has the highest breakdown threshold among all existing 2D materials. This enables us to observe clearly for the first time a linear dependence of breakdown threshold on the bandgap energy for 2D materials, demonstrating such a linear dependency is a universal scaling law independent of the dimensionality. We also observe counter-intuitively that hBN, which has a larger bandgap and mechanical strength than quartz, has a lower breakdown threshold. This implies carrier generation in hBN is much more efficient. Furthermore, we demonstrate the clean removal of hBN without damage to the surrounding hBN film or the substrate, indicating that hBN is optically very robust. The ablated features are shown to possess very small edge roughness, which is attributed to its ultrahigh fracture toughness. Finally, we demonstrate femtosecond laser patterning of hBN with sub-wavelength resolution, including an isolated stripe width of 200 nm. Our work advances the knowledge of light-hBN interaction in the strong field regime and firmly establishes femtosecond lasers as novel and promising tools for one-step deterministic patterning of hBN monolayers.

The helical magnetic structures of cubic chiral systems are well-explained by the competition among Heisenberg exchange, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, cubic anisotropy, and anisotropic exchange interaction (AEI). Recently, the role of the latter has been argued theoretically to be crucial for the low-temperature phase diagram of the cubic chiral magnet Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$, which features tilted conical and disordered skyrmion states for a specific orientation of the applied magnetic field ($μ_0 \vec{\mathrm{H}} \parallel [001]$). In this study, we exploit transmission resonant x-ray scattering ($t-$REXS) in vector magnetic fields to directly quantify the strength of the AEI in Cu$_2$OSeO$_3$, and measure its temperature dependence. We find that the AEI continuously increases below 50\,K, resulting in a conical spiral pitch variation of $10\%$ in the (001) plane. Our results contribute to establishing the interaction space that supports tilted cone and low-temperature skyrmion state formation, facilitating the goals for both a quantitative description and eventual design of the diverse spiral states existing amongst chiral magnets.

A complex logic query in a knowledge graph refers to a query expressed in logic form that conveys a complex meaning, such as where did the Canadian Turing award winner graduate from? Knowledge graph reasoning-based applications, such as dialogue systems and interactive search engines, rely on the ability to answer complex logic queries as a fundamental task. In most knowledge graphs, edges are typically used to either describe the relationships between entities or their associated attribute values. An attribute value can be in categorical or numerical format, such as dates, years, sizes, etc. However, existing complex query answering (CQA) methods simply treat numerical values in the same way as they treat entities. This can lead to difficulties in answering certain queries, such as which Australian Pulitzer award winner is born before 1927, and which drug is a pain reliever and has fewer side effects than Paracetamol. In this work, inspired by the recent advances in numerical encoding and knowledge graph reasoning, we propose numerical complex query answering. In this task, we introduce new numerical variables and operations to describe queries involving numerical attribute values. To address the difference between entities and numerical values, we also propose the framework of Number Reasoning Network (NRN) for alternatively encoding entities and numerical values into separate encoding structures. During the numerical encoding process, NRN employs a parameterized density function to encode the distribution of numerical values. During the entity encoding process, NRN uses established query encoding methods for the original CQA problem. Experimental results show that NRN consistently improves various query encoding methods on three different knowledge graphs and achieves state-of-the-art results.

Querying knowledge graphs (KGs) using deep learning approaches can naturally leverage the reasoning and generalization ability to learn to infer better answers. Traditional neural complex query answering (CQA) approaches mostly work on entity-centric KGs. However, in the real world, we also need to make logical inferences about events, states, and activities (i.e., eventualities or situations) to push learning systems from System I to System II, as proposed by Yoshua Bengio. Querying logically from an EVentuality-centric KG (EVKG) can naturally provide references to such kind of intuitive and logical inference. Thus, in this paper, we propose a new framework to leverage neural methods to answer complex logical queries based on an EVKG, which can satisfy not only traditional first-order logic constraints but also implicit logical constraints over eventualities concerning their occurrences and orders. For instance, if we know that "Food is bad" happens before "PersonX adds soy sauce", then "PersonX adds soy sauce" is unlikely to be the cause of "Food is bad" due to implicit temporal constraint. To facilitate consistent reasoning on EVKGs, we propose Complex Eventuality Query Answering (CEQA), a more rigorous definition of CQA that considers the implicit logical constraints governing the temporal order and occurrence of eventualities. In this manner, we propose to leverage theorem provers for constructing benchmark datasets to ensure the answers satisfy implicit logical constraints. We also propose a Memory-Enhanced Query Encoding (MEQE) approach to significantly improve the performance of state-of-the-art neural query encoders on the CEQA task.

Ranking is at the core of many artificial intelligence (AI) applications, including search engines, recommender systems, etc. Modern ranking systems are often constructed with learning-to-rank (LTR) models built from user behavior signals. While previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of using user behavior signals (e.g., clicks) as both features and labels of LTR algorithms, we argue that existing LTR algorithms that indiscriminately treat behavior and non-behavior signals in input features could lead to suboptimal performance in practice. Particularly because user behavior signals often have strong correlations with the ranking objective and can only be collected on items that have already been shown to users, directly using behavior signals in LTR could create an exploitation bias that hurts the system performance in the long run.
To address the exploitation bias, we propose EBRank, an empirical Bayes-based uncertainty-aware ranking algorithm. Specifically, to overcome exploitation bias brought by behavior features in ranking models, EBRank uses a sole non-behavior feature based prior model to get a prior estimation of relevance. In the dynamic training and serving of ranking systems, EBRank uses the observed user behaviors to update posterior relevance estimation instead of concatenating behaviors as features in ranking models. Besides, EBRank additionally applies an uncertainty-aware exploration strategy to explore actively, collect user behaviors for empirical Bayesian modeling and improve ranking performance. Experiments on three public datasets show that EBRank is effective, practical and significantly outperforms state-of-the-art ranking algorithms.

Lookup tables are a fundamental structure in many data processing and systems applications. Examples include tokenized text in NLP, quantized embedding collections in recommendation systems, integer sketches for streaming data, and hash-based string representations in genomics. With the increasing size of web-scale data, such applications often require compression techniques that support fast random $O(1)$ lookup of individual parameters directly on the compressed data (i.e. without blockwise decompression in RAM). While the community has proposd a number of succinct data structures that support queries over compressed representations, these approaches do not fully leverage the low-entropy structure prevalent in real-world workloads to reduce space. Inspired by recent advances in static function construction techniques, we propose a space-efficient representation of immutable key-value data, called CARAMEL, specifically designed for the case where the values are multi-sets. By carefully combining multiple compressed static functions, CARAMEL occupies space proportional to the data entropy with low memory overheads and minimal lookup costs. We demonstrate 1.25-16x compression on practical lookup tasks drawn from real-world systems, improving upon established techniques, including a production-grade read-only database widely used for development within Amazon.com.

We design the task with parallels to the thought-process of lawyers, i.e., with reference to both precedents and legislative provisions. After initial experimental results, we refine the target citation predictions with the feedback of legal experts. In dyadic interaction, predicting the listener's facial reactions is challenging as different reactions may be appropriate in response to the same speaker's behaviour. This paper presents a novel framework called ReactFace that learns an appropriate facial reaction distribution from a speaker's behaviour rather than replicating the real facial reaction of the listener. ReactFace generates multiple different but appropriate photo-realistic human facial reactions by (i) learning an appropriate facial reaction distribution representing multiple appropriate facial reactions; and (ii) synchronizing the generated facial reactions with the speaker's verbal and non-verbal behaviours at each time stamp, resulting in realistic 2D facial reaction sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in generating multiple diverse, synchronized, and appropriate facial reactions from each speaker's behaviour, with the quality of the generated reactions being influenced by the speaker's speech and facial behaviours. Our code is made publicly available at \url{https://github.com/lingjivoo/ReactFace}.

Abstract:
The spin and parity of the charmed mesons $D_{s}^{*+}$, $D^{*0}$ and $D^{*+}$ are determined for the first time to be $J^P=1^{-}$ with significances greater than 10$σ$ over other hypotheses of $2^{+}$ and $3^{-}$, using an $e^+e^-$ collision data sample with an integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. Different spin-parity hypotheses for $D_{s}^{*+}$, $D^{*0}$, and $D^{*+}$ mesons are tested via a helicity amplitude analysis of the processes $e^+e^-\to D^{*+}_{s}D^{-}_{s}$, $D^{*0}D^{0}$ and $D^{*+}D^{-}$, with $D^{*+}_{s}\to D^{+}_{s} γ$, $D^{*0}\to D^{0}π^{0}$, and $D^{*+}\to D^{+}π^{0}$. The results confirm the quark model predictions.

Hate speech causes widespread and deep-seated societal issues. Proper enforcement of hate speech laws is key for protecting groups of people against harmful and discriminatory language. However, determining what constitutes hate speech is a complex task that is highly open to subjective interpretations. Existing works do not align their systems with enforceable definitions of hate speech, which can make their outputs inconsistent with the goals of regulators. This research introduces a new perspective and task for enforceable hate speech detection centred around legal definitions, and a dataset annotated on violations of eleven possible definitions by legal experts. Given the challenge of identifying clear, legally enforceable instances of hate speech, we augment the dataset with expert-generated samples and an automatically mined challenge set. We experiment with grounding the model decision in these definitions using zero-shot and few-shot prompting. We then report results on several large language models (LLMs). With this task definition, automatic hate speech detection can be more closely aligned to enforceable laws, and hence assist in more rigorous enforcement of legal protections against harmful speech in public forums.

The complete quantitative description of the structure of dense and supercooled liquids remains a notoriously difficult problem in statistical physics. Most studies to date focus solely on two-body structural correlations, and only a handful of papers have sought to consider additional three-body correlations. Here, we go beyond the state of the art by extracting many-body static structure factors from molecular dynamics simulations and by deriving accurate approximations up to the six-body structure factor via density functional theory. We find that supercooling manifestly increases four-body correlations, akin to the two- and three-body case. However, at small wave numbers, we observe that the four-point structure of a liquid drastically changes upon supercooling, both qualitatively and quantitatively, which is not the case in two-point structural correlations. This indicates that theories of the structure or dynamics of dense liquids should incorporate many-body correlations beyond the two-particle level to fully capture their intricate behaviour.

From these measurements, precise $CP$ symmetry tests in $Ξ^0$ decay are performed, and $A^Ξ_{CP} = (-5.4 \pm 6.5 \pm 3.1) \times 10^{-3}$ and $Δφ^Ξ_{CP} = (-0.1 \pm 6.9 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-3}$~rad are consistent with $CP$ conservation. The sequential decay also enables a separation of weak and strong phase differences, which are found for the first time to be $ξ_{P}-ξ_{S} = (0.0 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-2}$~rad and $δ_{P}-δ_{S} = (-1.3 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-2}$~rad, respectively. In addition, we measure the $Λ$ decay parameters and test $CP$ symmetry in $Λ$ decays.
