On the proximity of large primes
Abstract: By a sphere-packing argument, we show that there are infinitely many pairs of primes that are close to each other for some metrics on the integers. In particular, for any numeration basis $q$, we show that there are infinitely many pairs of primes the base $q$ expansion of which differ in at most two digits. Likewise, for any fixed integer $t,$ there are infinitely many pairs of primes, the first… ▽ More

Diophantine triples in linear recurrence sequences of Pisot type
Abstract: The study of Diophantine triples taking values in linear recurrence sequences is a variant of a problem going back to Diophantus of Alexandria which has been studied quite a lot in the past. The main questions are, as usual, about existence or finiteness of Diophantine triples in such sequences. Whilst the case of binary recurrence sequences is almost completely solved, not much was known about re… ▽ More

Constrained ternary integers

Planar Drawings of Fixed-Mobile Bigraphs
Abstract: A fixed-mobile bigraph G is a bipartite graph such that the vertices of one partition set are given with fixed positions in the plane and the mobile vertices of the other part, together with the edges, must be added to the drawing. We assume that G is planar and study the problem of finding, for a given k >= 0, a planar poly-line drawing of G with at most k bends per edge. In the most general case… ▽ More

On Vertex- and Empty-Ply Proximity Drawings
Abstract: We initiate the study of the vertex-ply of straight-line drawings, as a relaxation of the recently introduced ply number. Consider the disks centered at each vertex with radius equal to half the length of the longest edge incident to the vertex. The vertex-ply of a drawing is determined by the vertex covered by the maximum number of disks. The main motivation for considering this relaxation is to… ▽ More

Primitive root biases for prime pairs I: existence and non-totality of biases
Abstract: We study the difference between the number of primitive roots modulo $p$ and modulo $p+k$ for prime pairs $p,p+k$. Assuming the Bateman-Horn conjecture, we prove the existence of strong sign biases for such pairs. More importantly, we prove that for a small positive proportion of prime pairs $p,p+k$, the dominant inequality is reversed.

The Distribution of Self-Fibonacci Divisors
Abstract: Consider the positive integers $n$ such that $n$ divides the $n$-th Fibonacci number, and their counting function $A$. We prove that \[A(x) \leq x^{1-(1/2+o(1))\log\log\log x/\log\log x}.\]

Powers of two as sums of two $k-$Fibonacci numbers
Abstract: For an integer $k\geq 2$, let $(F_{n}^{(k)})_{n}$ be the $k-$Fibonacci sequence which starts with $0,\ldots,0,1$ ($k$ terms) and each term afterwards is the sum of the $k$ preceding terms. In this paper, we search for powers of 2 which are sums of two $k-$Fibonacci numbers. The main tools used in this work are lower bounds for linear forms in logarithms and a version of the Baker--Davenport reduct… ▽ More

The image of Carmichael's $λ$-function
Abstract: We show that the counting function of the set of values of the Carmichael $λ$-function is $x/(\log x)^{η+o(1)}$, where $η=1-(1+\log\log 2)/(\log 2)=0.08607...$.

A note on the number of $S$-Diophantine quadruples
Abstract: Let $(a_1,\dots, a_m)$ be an $m$-tuple of positive, pairwise distinct, integers. If for all $1\leq i< j \leq m$ the prime divisors of $a_ia_j+1$ come from the same fixed set $S$, then we call the $m$-tuple $S$-Diophantine. In this note we estimate the number of $S$-Diophantine quadruples in terms of $|S|=r$.

On the Fixed Points of the Map x -> x^x Modulo a Prime
Abstract: In this paper, we show that for almost all primes p there is an integer solution x in [2,p-1] to the congruence x^x == x mod p. The solutions can be interpretated as fixed points of the map x -> x^x mod p, and we study numerically and discuss some unexpected properties of the dynamical system associated with this map.

Coincidences in generalized Lucas sequences
Abstract: For an integer $k\geq 2$, let $(L_{n}^{(k)})_{n}$ be the $k-$generalized Lucas sequence which starts with $0,\ldots,0,2,1$ ($k$ terms) and each term afterwards is the sum of the $k$ preceding terms. In this paper, we find all the integers that appear in different generalized Lucas sequences; i.e., we study the Diophantine equation $L_n^{(k)}=L_m^{(\ell)}$ in nonnegative integers $n,k,m,\ell$ with… ▽ More

On equal values of power sums of arithmetic progressions
Abstract: In this paper we consider the Diophantine equation \begin{align*}b^k +\left(a+b\right)^k &+ \cdots + \left(a\left(x-1\right) + b\right)^k=\\ &=d^l + \left(c+d\right)^l + \cdots + \left(c\left(y-1\right) + d\right)^l, \end{align*} where $a,b,c,d,k,l$ are given integers. We prove that, under some reasonable assumptions, this equation has only finitely many integer solutions.
