This paper presents the effects of radio frequency interference (RFI) mitigation on a radio telescope's sensitivity and beam pattern. It specifically explores the impact of subspace-projection mitigation on the phased array feed (PAF) beams of the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope. The goal is to demonstrate ASKAP's ability to make science observations during active RFI mitigation. The target interfering signal is a self-generated clock signal from the digital receivers of ASKAP's PAFs. This signal is stationary, so we apply the mitigation projection to the beamformer weights at the beginning of the observation and hold them fixed. We suppressed the unwanted narrowband signal by 31dB, to the noise floor of an 880s integration on one antenna, with a typical degradation in sensitivity of just 1.5%. Sensitivity degradation over the whole 36 antenna array of 3.1% was then measured via interferometric assessment of system equivalent flux density (SEFD). These measurements are in line with theoretical calculation of noise increase using the correlation of the beam weights and RFI spatial signature. Further, degradation to the main beam's gain is 0.4% on average at the half-power point, with no significant change to the gain in the first sidelobe and no variation during extended observations; also consistent with our modelling. In summary, we present the first demonstration of mitigation via spatial nulling with PAFs on a large aperture synthesis array telescope and assess impact on sensitivity and beam shape via SEFD and holography measurements. The mitigation introduces smaller changes to sensitivity than intrinsic sensitivity differences between beams, does not preclude high dynamic range imaging and, in continuum 1MHz mode, recovers an otherwise corrupted holography beam map and usable astronomical source correlations in the RFI-affected channel.

We present an initial analysis of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) flagging statistics from archived Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) observations for the 'Survey and Monitoring of ASKAP's RFI environment and Trends' (SMART) project. The survey component covers ASKAP's full 700 MHz to 1800 MHz frequency range, including bands not typically used due to severe RFI. In addition to this dedicated survey, we routinely archive and analyse flagging statistics for all scientific observations to monitor the observatory's RFI environment in near real-time. We use the telescope itself as a very sensitive RFI monitor and directly assess the fraction of scientific observations impacted by RFI. To this end, flag tables are now automatically ingested and aggregated as part of routine ASKAP operations for all science observations, as a function of frequency and time. The data presented in this paper come from processing all archived data for several ASKAP Survey Science Projects (SSPs). We found that the average amount of flagging due to RFI across the routinely-used 'clean' continuum science bands is 3%. The 'clean' mid band from 1293 MHz to 1437 MHz (excluding the 144 MHz below 1293 MHz impacted by radionavigation-satellites which is discarded before processing) is the least affected by RFI, followed by the 'clean' low band from 742 MHz to 1085 MHz. ASKAP SSPs lose most of their data to the mobile service in the low band, aeronautical service in the mid band and satellite navigation service in the 1510 MHz to 1797 MHz high band. We also show that for some of these services, the percentage of discarded data has been increasing year-on-year. SMART provides a unique opportunity to study ASKAP's changing RFI environment and informing the implementation of a suite of RFI mitigation techniques.

There has been great interest in a model with three Higgs doublets in which fermions with a particular charge couple to a single and distinct Higgs field. We study the phenomenological differences between the two common incarnations of this so-called Type-Z 3HDM. We point out that the differences between the two models arise from the scalar potential only. Thus we focus on observables that involve the scalar self-couplings. We find it difficult to uncover features that can uniquely set apart the $Z_3$ variant of the model. However, by studying the dependence of the trilinear Higgs couplings on the nonstandard masses, we have been able to isolate some of the exclusive indicators for the $Z_2\times Z_2$ version of the Type-Z 3HDM. This highlights the importance of precision measurements of the trilinear Higgs couplings.

To explain Venus' young surface age and lack of plate tectonics, Venus' tectonic regime has often been proposed to be either an episodic-lid regime with global lithospheric overturns, or an equilibrium resurfacing regime with numerous volcanic and tectonic activities. Here, we use global 2-D thermochemical convection models with realistic parameters, including rheology (dislocation creep, diffusion creep, and plastic yielding), an experiment-based plagioclase (An$_{75}$) crustal rheology, and intrusive magmatism, to investigate the tectonics and mantle evolution of Venus. We find that surface tectonics is strongly affected by crustal rheology. With a ''weak'' plagioclase-rheology crust, models exhibit episodic overturns but with continuously high surface mobility and high distributed surface strain rates between overturns, leading to a new tectonic regime that we name ''deformable episodic lid''. On the other hand, olivine-crustal-rheology models exhibit either standard episodic-lid tectonics, i.e. with mobility that is high during overturns and near zero between overturns, or stagnant-lid tectonics, i.e. with near-zero mobility over the entire model time. Also, a combination of plagioclase crustal rheology and dislocation creep can weaken the lithosphere sufficiently to facilitate lithospheric overturns without applying plastic yielding. Internally, the composition-dependent density profile results in a ''basalt barrier'' at the mantle transition zone, which strongly affects Venus' mantle evolution. Only strong plumes can penetrate this basalt barrier and cause global lithospheric overturns. This basalt barrier also causes global internal episodic overturns that generate global volcanic resurfacing in stagnant-lid models, which suggests a new resurfacing mechanism (we name it ''stagnant episodic-volcanic-resurfacing'') that does not involve lithospheric overturns.

We have designed and constructed a thin film preparation chamber with base pressure of $<2 \times 10^{-9}$~mbar. Currently, the chamber is equipped with two large area evaporators (a molecular evaporator and an electron-beam evaporator), an ion sputtering gun, a thickness monitor and a substrate heater. It is designed such that it can handle large area thin film samples with a future possibility to transfer them in vacuum directly to the low energy muons (LEM) spectrometer or to other advanced characterization facilities in the Quantum Matter and Materials Center (QMMC) which will be constructed in 2024. Initial commissioning of the chamber resulted in high quality, large area and uniform molecular films of CuPc and TbPc$_2$ on various substrate materials. We present first results from low energy $μ$SR (LE-$μ$SR) measurements on these films.

Most software factories contain applications with sensitive information that needs to be protected against breaches of confidentiality and integrity, which can have serious consequences. In the context of large factories with complex applications, it is not feasible to manually analyze accesses to sensitive information without some form of safety mechanisms. This article presents a static analysis technique for software factories, based on role-based security policies. We start by synthesising a graph representation of the relevant software factories, based on the security policy defined by the user. Later the graph model is analysed to find access information where the security policy is breached, ensuring that all possible execution states are analysed. A proof of concept of our technique has been developed for the analysis of OutSystems software factories. The security reports generated by the tool allows developers to find and prioritise security breaches in their factories. The prototype was evaluated using large software factories, with strong safety requirements. Several security flaws were found, some serious ones that would be hard to be detected without our analysis.

Terrestrial planets are thought to experience episode(s) of large-scale melting early in their history. Fractionation during magma-ocean freezing leads to unstable stratification within the related cumulate layers due to progressive iron enrichment upward, but the effects of incremental cumulate overturns during MO crystallization remain to be explored. Here, we use geodynamic models with a moving-boundary approach to study convection and mixing within the growing cumulate layer, and thereafter within the fully crystallized mantle. For fractional crystallization, cumulates are efficiently stirred due to subsequent incremental overturns, except for strongly iron-enriched late-stage cumulates, which persist as a stably stratified layer at the base of the mantle for billions of years. Less extreme crystallization scenarios can lead to somewhat more subtle stratification. In any case, the long-term preservation of at least a thin layer of extremely enriched cumulates with Fe#>0.4, as predicted by all our models, is inconsistent with seismic constraints. Based on scaling relationships, however, we infer that final-stage Fe-rich magma-ocean cumulates originally formed near the surface should have overturned as small diapirs, and hence undergone melting and reaction with the host rock during sinking. The resulting moderately iron-enriched metasomatized/hybrid rock assemblages should have accumulated at the base of the mantle, potentially fed an intermittent basal magma ocean, and be preserved through the present-day. Such moderately iron-enriched rock assemblages can reconcile the physical properties of the large low shear-wave velocity provinces in the presentday lower mantle. Thus, we reveal Hadean melting and rock-reaction processes by integrating magmaocean crystallization models with the seismic-tomography snapshot.
