This is the second one of a series of four papers devoted to a first calculation of the scalar and spinor QED four-photon amplitudes completely off-shell. We use the worldline formalism which provides a gauge-invariant decomposition for these amplitudes as well as compact integral representations. It also makes it straightforward to integrate out any given photon leg in the low-energy limit, and in the present sequel we do this with two of the four photons. For the special case where the two unrestricted photon momenta are equal and opposite the information on these amplitudes is also contained in the constant-field vacuum polarisation tensors, which provides a check on our results. Although these amplitudes are finite, for possible use as higher-loop building blocks we evaluate all integrals in dimensional regularisation. As an example, we use them to construct the two-loop vacuum polarisation tensors in the low-energy approximation, rederive from those the two-loop $β$-function coefficients and analyse their anatomy with respect to the gauge-invariant decomposition. As an application to an external-field problem, we provide a streamlined calculation of the Delbrück scattering amplitudes in the low-energy limit. All calculations are done in parallel for scalar and spinor QED.

The worldline formalism shares with string theory the property that it allows one to write down master integrals that effectively combine the contributions of many Feynman diagrams. While at the one-loop level these diagrams differ only by the position of the external legs along a fixed line or loop, at multiloop they generally involve different topologies. Here we summarize various efforts that have been made over the years to exploit this property in a computationally meaningful way. As a first example, we show how to generalize the Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin formula for the non-perturbative gauge transformation of the fermion propagator in QED to the general $2n$ - point case by pure manipulations at the path-integral level. At the parameter-integral level, we show how to integrate out individual photons in the low-energy expansion, and then sketch a recently introduced general framework for the analytical evaluation of such worldline integrals involving a reduction to quantum mechanics on the circle and the relation between inverse derivatives and Bernoulli polynomials.

In this letter we present a recursive method for computing one-loop off-shell amplitudes in colored quantum field theories. First, we generalize the perturbiner method by recasting the multiparticle currents as generators of off-shell tree level amplitudes. After, by taking advantage of the underlying color structure, we define a consistent sewing procedure to iteratively compute the one-loop integrands. When gauge symmetries are involved, the whole procedure is extended to multiparticle solutions involving ghosts, which can then be accounted for in the full loop computation. Since the required input here is equations of motion and gauge symmetry, our framework naturally extends to one-loop computations in certain non-Lagrangian field theories.

Recently, a non-abelian generalisation of the Navier-Stokes equation that exhibits a manifest duality between colour and kinematics has been proposed by Cheung and Mangan. In this paper, we offer a new perspective on the double copy formulation of this equation, based on the homotopy algebraic picture suggested by Borsten, Kim, Jurčo, Macrelli, Saemann, and Wolf. In the process, we describe precisely how the double copy can be realised at the level of perturbiner expansions. Specifically, we will show that the colour-dressed Berends-Giele currents for the non-abelian version of the Navier-Stokes equation can be used to construct the Berends-Giele currents for the double copied equation by replacing the colour factors with a second copy of kinematic numerators. We will also show a Kawai-Lewellen-Tye relation stating that the full tree-level scattering amplitudes in the latter can be written as a product of tree-level colour ordered partial amplitudes in the former.

The relation for the gravity polarisation tensor as the tensor product of two gluon polarisation vectors has been well-known for a long time, but a version of this relation for multi-particle fields is presently still not known. Here we show that in order for this to happen we first have to ensure that the multi-particle polarisations satisfy colour-kinematics duality. In previous work it has been show that this arises naturally from the Bern-Kosower formalism for one-loop gluon amplitudes, and here we show that the tensor product for multi-particle fields arise naturally in the Bern-Dunbar-Shimada formalism for one-loop gravity amplitudes. This allows us to formulate a new prescription for double-copy gravity Berends-Giele currents, and to obtain both the colour-dressed Yang-Mills Berends-Giele currents in the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson gauge and the gravitational Berends-Giele currents explicitly. An attractive feature of our formalism is that it never becomes necessary to determine gauge transformation terms. Our double-copy prescription can also be applied to other cases, and to make this point we derive the double-copy perturbiners for $α'$-deformed gravity and the bi-adjoint scalar model.

The QED four-photon amplitude has been well-studied by many authors, and on-shell is treated in many textbooks. However, a calculation with all four photons off-shell is presently still lacking, despite of the fact that this amplitude appears off-shell as a subprocess in many different contexts, in vacuum as well as with some photons connecting to external fields. The present paper is the first in a series of four where we use the worldline formalism to obtain this amplitude explicitly in terms of hypergeometric functions, and derivatives thereof, for both scalar and spinor QED. The formalism allows us to unify the scalar and spinor loop calculations, to avoid the usual breaking up of the amplitude into three inequivalent Feynman diagrams, and to achieve manifest transversality as well as UV finiteness at the integrand level by an optimized version of the integration-by-parts procedure originally introduced by Bern and Kosower for gluon amplitudes. The full permutation symmetry is maintained throughout, and the amplitudes get projected naturally into the basis of five tensors introduced by Costantini et al. in 1971. Since in many applications of the "four-photon box" some of the photons can be taken in the low-energy limit, and the formalism makes it easy to integrate out any such leg, apart from the case of general kinematics (part 4) we also treat the special cases of one (part 3) or two (part 2) photons taken at low energy. In this first part of the series, we summarize the application of the worldline formalism to the N-photon amplitudes and its relation to Feynman diagrams, derive the optimized tensor-decomposed integrands of the four-photon amplitudes in scalar and spinor QED, and outline the computational strategy to be followed in parts 2 to 4.

The field theories we will consider are: Chern-Simons-Matter, Quantum Chromodynamics, and scalar Quantum Chromodynamics. Starting with the construction of the master action in the classical Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism, we will extract the $L_{\infty}$-algebra that allow us to recursively calculate the perturbiner expansion from its minimal model. The Maurer-Cartan action obtained in this procedure will then motivate a generating function for all the tree-level scattering amplitudes. There are two interesting outcomes of this construction: a generator for fully-flavoured amplitudes via a localisation on Dyck words; and closed expressions for fermion and scalar lines attached to $n$-gluons with arbitrary polarisations.

In this paper it is argued that the minimal model for the $L_{\infty}$-algebra that governs a classical field theory contains enough information to determine the perturbiner expansion associated to such theory. This gives a prescription for computing the tree-level scattering amplitudes by inserting the perturbiner solution into the homotopy Maurer-Cartan action for the $L_{\infty}$-algebra. We confirm the method in the non-trivial examples of bi-adjoint scalar and Yang-Mills theories.

In order to check that, in fact, these new factors can describe non-planar amplitudes, we applied them to the bi-adjoint $Φ^3$ theory. As a byproduct, we found a new type of graphs that we called the non-planar CHY-graphs. These graphs encode all the information for the subleading order at one-loop, and there is not an equivalent of these in the Feynman formalism.

In this paper we analyze the effect of the massive deformation of the ABJM model on the calculation of conductivity of the dual theory. We show that some of the difficulties presented by the dual geometry, in particular the construction of black holes therein, can be at least partially circumvented by adopting a membrane paradigm-like computation of the conductivity, which requires us to know just the effect of the deformation on the {\it horizon} of a black hole in AdS${}_{4}$. The deformation at the horizon itself is found by first deforming the flat space near the horizon, and then using the corresponding solution near the horizon as initial conditions for the Einstein's equations. We find the same result, showing an increase in conductivity, using two types of membrane paradigm computations.
