Euclid will collect an enormous amount of data during the mission's lifetime, observing billions of galaxies in the extragalactic sky. Along with traditional template-fitting methods, numerous Machine Learning algorithms have been presented for computing their photometric redshifts and physical parameters (PP), requiring significantly less computing effort while producing equivalent performance measures. However, their performance is limited by the quality and amount of input information, to the point where the recovery of some well-established physical relationships between parameters might not be guaranteed.
To forecast the reliability of Euclid photo-$z$s and PPs calculations, we produced two mock catalogs simulating Euclid photometry. We simulated the Euclid Wide Survey (EWS) and Euclid Deep Fields (EDF). We tested the performance of a template-fitting algorithm (Phosphoros) and four ML methods in recovering photo-$z$s, stellar masses, star-formation rates, and the SFMS. To mimic the Euclid processing as closely as possible, the models were trained with Phosphoros-recovered labels.
For the EWS, we found that the best results are achieved with a Mixed Labels approach, training the models with Wide survey features and labels from the Phosphoros results on deeper photometry, i.e., with the best possible set of labels for a given photometry. This imposes a prior, hel** the models to better discern cases in degenerate regions of feature space, i.e., when galaxies have similar magnitudes and colors but different redshifts and PPs, with performance metrics even better than those found with Phosphoros. We found no more than $3\%$ performance degradation using a COSMOS-like reference sample or removing $u$ band data, which will not be available until after data release DR1. The best results are obtained for the EDF, with appropriate recovery of photo-$z$, PPs, and the SFMS.

We compute the spectrum of gluons emitted by a highly energetic quark inside a flowing QCD medium, focusing on the soft gluon limit at first order in the opacity expansion. Specifically, we derive the leading energy-suppressed corrections to the double differential final parton distribution, and show that they are substantial for both static and flowing matter. In particular, we demonstrate that the corrections due to the transverse flow become large even at moderate energies and flow velocities, affecting drastically both the shape and magnitude of the spectrum. We observe that the final transverse momentum of the emitted gluon tends to align along the flow direction, resulting in a non-trivial azimuthal distribution. These results can be directly implemented into the estimation of multiple observables to get a better understanding of the jet-medium interaction processes in HICs.

Inspired by the recent considerations of parton momentum broadening in the glasma phase, we study the medium-induced soft gluon radiation of jet partons at early times in heavy-ion collisions. The glasma state is assumed to be comprised of independent color domains with homogenous longitudinal fields that vary event by event, and we further complete this model with an event-averaging procedure accounting for the finite correlation length. Using this description, we evaluate the rate of medium-induced radiation from an energetic parton at midrapidity in the glasma phase. We mainly focus on SU(2) color fields for simplicity, also referring to the U(1) case and comparing with the BDMPS-Z rate to gain further insight. Our results show that there is an intricate interplay of the synchrotron-like radiation in a single color domain with the destructive interference between different color domains, after the medium averaging is performed. Thus, we find that the emission rate is sensitive to the matter structure, decreasing for a glasma state populated by smaller color domains, i.e. for a glasma with a larger characteristic saturation scale. Our approach can be applied to more realistic backgrounds, and sets the stage for the modelling of jet evolution in the early stages of heavy-ion collisions.

The current standard model of cosmology successfully describes a variety of measurements, but the nature of its main ingredients, dark matter and dark energy, remains unknown. Euclid is a medium-class mission in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) that will provide high-resolution optical imaging, as well as near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, over about 14,000 deg^2 of extragalactic sky. In addition to accurate weak lensing and clustering measurements that probe structure formation over half of the age of the Universe, its primary probes for cosmology, these exquisite data will enable a wide range of science. This paper provides a high-level overview of the mission, summarising the survey characteristics, the various data-processing steps, and data products. We also highlight the main science objectives and expected performance.

The spectral energy distribution (SED) of low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGN) presents unique challenges due to their comparable radiation output to their host galaxies and complex accretion dynamics. We introduce a novel module within the CIGALE framework specifically designed for SED fitting of LLAGN, incorporating both empirical relationships like $L_\mathrm{X}$--$L_\mathrm{12μm}$ and physically-based accretion models such as advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) and truncated accretion disks. This allows for more accurate depiction of LLAGN central emissions.
Using this module, we analyzed a set of 52 X-ray-detected local galaxies, primarily LINERs and Seyferts, and compared its performance to higher-luminosity AGN from the COSMOS and SDSS datasets. Our results show that the module adeptly estimates bolometric luminosities with high precision, despite significant galaxy contamination. It also introduces a versatile X-ray bolometric correction formula covering a vast range of luminosities.
Further, our study explored the $α_\mathrm{ox}$ index, which measures the UV to X-ray emission slope, showing that unlike quasars, LLAGN display either stable or only slightly varying $α_\mathrm{ox}$ values, indicating differing accretion and photon production processes in the low luminosity regime. Additionally, we observed a significant drop of 1.4 dex in specific star formation rates when moving from whole galaxies to a central 9-arcsecond aperture in LLAGN, suggesting potential feedback mechanisms at play.
Overall, our findings underscore the importance of a multiwavelength approach in AGN studies, highlighting distinct behaviors of LLAGN compared to quasars, thus enhancing our understanding of LLAGN and providing a framework for future comprehensive AGN population studies.

We find that the mixed flow-gradient contributions in jet quenching are enhanced by the medium length, and survive in the eikonal limit, dominating over other medium evolution effects. The resulting modification to the jet quenching parameter and energy loss rate can be substantial, leading to ample phenomenological implications. We also compute the leading corrections to the jet broadening due to the flow velocity gradients, and consider the leading gradient effects in the medium-induced branching for general kinematics, extending the recent considerations of jets in inhomogeneous media. These results can be straightforwardly coupled to matter simulations, providing new opportunities for jet tomography in heavy-ion collisions.

We calculate the spectrum of gluons sourced by the branching of an energetic quark in the presence of an inhomogeneous QCD medium, focusing on the soft radiation limit. We take into account multiple soft interactions between the partons and matter, treating the transverse variations of its parameters within a gradient expansion. Thus, we derive the general form of the medium induced spectrum up to the first order in gradients, and consider its simplifying limits. In particular, we show that to the leading order in matter gradients and using the harmonic approximation for the scattering potential, the full gluon spectrum can be written in a compact closed form suitable for numerical evaluation. The final gluon transverse momentum tends to align along the anisotropy direction, resulting in a non-trivial azimuthal pattern in the jet substructure.

To obtain physical insight in our results we analyze them with a semi-analytical model for two electrons. Thanks to electronic-structure properties such as the one-body density and the particle-hole entropy, we are able to define a path that connects the Wigner regime to the Fermi-gas regime by varying the confinement parameter. In particular, we show that the particle-hole entropy as a function of the confinement parameter smoothly connects the two regimes. Moreover, it exhibits a maximum that could be interpreted as the transition point between the localized and delocalized regimes.

The computational study of DNA and its interaction with ligands is a highly relevant area of research, with significant consequences for develo** new therapeutic strategies. However, the computational description of such large and complex systems requires considering interactions of different types. All these considerations imply a real challenge for computational chemistry. Using quantum methods for the entire system requires significant computational resources, with improvements in parallelization and optimization of theoretical strategies. Computational methods, such as LS-DFT and DLPNO-CCSD(T), may allow performing ab initio QM calculations, including explicitly the electronic structure for large biological systems, at a reasonable computing time. In this work, we study the interaction of small molecules and cations with DNA (duplex-DNA and G-quadruplexes), comparing different computational methods: a linear-scaling DFT (LS-DFT) at LMKLL/DZDP level of theory, semi-empirical methods (PM6-DH2 and PM7), mixed QM/MM, and DLPNO-CCSD(T). Our goal is to demonstrate the adequacy of LS-DFT to treat the different types of interactions present in DNA-dependent systems. We show that LMKLL/DZDP using SIESTA can yield very accurate geometries and energetics in all the different systems considered in this work: duplex DNA (dDNA), phenanthroline intercalating dDNA, G-quadruplexes, and Metal-G-tetrads considering alkaline metals of different sizes. As far as we know, this is the first time that full G-quadruplex geometry optimizations have been carried out using a DFT method thanks to its linear-scaling capabilities. Moreover, we show that LS-DFT provides high-quality structures, and some semi-empirical Hamiltonian can also yield suitable geometries. However, DLPNO-CCSD(T) and LS-DFT are the only methods that accurately describe interaction energies for all the systems considered in our study.

The recently proposed natural orbital functional second-order Møller-Plesset (NOF-MP2) method is capableof achieving both dynamic and static correlation even for those systems with significant multiconfigurational character. We test its reliability to describe the electron correlation in radical formation reactions, namely, in the homolytic X-H bond cleavage of LiH, BH, CH4, NH3, H2O and HF molecules. Our results are compared with CASSCF and CASPT2 wavefunction calculations and the experimental data. For a dataset of 20 organic molecules, the thermodynamics of C-H homolytic bond cleavage, in which the C-H bond is broken in the presence of different chemical environments, is presented. The radical stabilization energies obtained for such general dataset are compared with the experimental data. It is observed that NOF-MP2 is able to give a quantitative agreement for dissociation energies, with a performance comparable to that of the accurate CASPT2 method.

The FOPI Collaboration at the GSI SIS-18 synchrotron measured charged kaons from central and semi-central collisions of Ni+Ni at a beam energy of 1.91A GeV. We present the distribution of the K$^-$\K$^+$ ratio on the energy vs polar angle plane in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame, with and without subtraction of the contribution of $φ$(1020) meson decays to the K$^-$ yield. The acceptance of the current experiment is substantially wider compared to the previous measurement of the same colliding system. The ratio of K$^-$ to K$^+$ energy spectra is expected to be sensitive to the in-medium modifications of basic kaon properties like mass. Recent results obtained by the HADES Collaboration at 1.23A and 1.76A GeV indicate that after inclusion of the $φ$ meson decay contribution to the K$^-$ production no difference between the slopes of the K$^-$ and K$^+$ energy spectra is observed within uncertainties. For our data a linear fit to this ratio obtained after subtraction of the $φ$ meson contribution still shows a decrease with kinetic energy, although a constant value cannot be rejected. The contribution of $Λ(1520) \rightarrow p\text{K}^-$ decays estimated from fitting the thermal model to the experimental yields appears to be another factor of moderate relevance.

Using a two-fold extrapolation procedure we obtain highly accurate results that recover 97\% of the correlation energy. We confirm the existence of a shoulder in the short-range region of the Coulomb hole of the Ne atom, which is due to an internal reorganization of the $K$-shell caused by electron correlation of the core electrons. The feature is very sensitive to the quality of the basis set in the core region and it is not exclusive to Ne, being also present in most of second-row atoms, thus confirming that it is due to $K$-shell correlation effects.

The production of K$^+$, K$^-$ and $\varphi$(1020) mesons is studied in Al+Al collisions at a beam energy of 1.9A GeV which is close or below the production threshold in NN reactions. Inverse slopes, anisotropy parameters, and total emission yields of K$^{\pm}$ mesons are obtained. A comparison of the ratio of kinetic energy distributions of K$^-$ and K$^+$ mesons to the HSD transport model calculations suggests that the inclusion of the in-medium modifications of kaon properties is necessary to reproduce the ratio. The inverse slope and total yield of $φ$ mesons are deduced. The contribution to K$^-$ production from $φ$ meson decays is found to be [17 $\pm$ 3 (stat) $^{+2}_{-7}$ (syst)] %. The results are in line with previous K$^{\pm}$ and $φ$ data obtained for different colliding systems at similar incident beam energies.

The correct description of nondynamic correlation by electronic structure methods not belonging to the multireference family is a challenging issue. The transition of $D_{2h}$ to $D_{4h}$ symmetry in H$_4$ molecule is among the most simple archetypal examples to illustrate the consequences of missing nondynamic correlation effects. The resurge of interest in density matrix functional methods has brought several new methods including the family of Piris Natural Orbital Functionals (PNOF). In this work we compare PNOF5 and PNOF6, which include nondynamic electron correlation effects to some extent, with other standard ab initio methods in the H$_4$ $D_{4h}/D_{2h}$ potential energy surface. Thus far, the wrongful behavior of single-reference methods at the $D_{2h}-D_{4h}$ transition of H$_4$ has been attributed to wrong account of nondynamic correlation effects, whereas in geminal-based approaches it has been assigned to a wrong coupling of spins and the localized nature of the orbitals. We will show that actually $\textit{interpair}$ nondynamic correlation is the key to a cusp-free qualitatively correct description of H$_4$ PES. By introducing $\textit{interpair}$ nondynamic correlation, PNOF6 is shown to avoid cusps and provide the correct smooth PES features at distances close to equilibrium, total and local spin properties along with the correct electron delocalization, as reflected by natural orbitals and multicenter delocalization indices.

The phase space distributions, and the total yield of K$^-$, as well as the kinetic energy distribution and the total yield of $φ$ mesons are presented. The $φ$\K$^-$ ratio is found to be $0.44 \pm 0.07(\text{stat}) ^{+0.18}_{-0.12} (\text{syst})$, meaning that about 22% of K$^-$ mesons originate from the decays of $φ$ mesons, occurring mostly in vacuum. The inverse slopes of direct kaons are up to about 15 MeV larger than the ones extracted within the one-source model, signalling that a considerable share of gap between the slopes of K$^+$ and K$^-$ could be explained by the contribution of $φ$ mesons to negative kaons.

The data exhibits different propagation patterns of $K^{+}$ and $K^{-}$ mesons in the compressed and heated nuclear medium and favor the existence of a kaon-nucleon in-medium potential, repulsive for $K^{+}$ mesons and attractive for $K^{-}$ mesons.

We present dsigma_J/psi/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d^2sigma_J/psi/dydp_t in the transverse momentum domain 0<p_t<8 GeV/c. The results are compared with previously published results at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and with theoretical calculations.

The K0 meson production by pi- mesons of 1.15 GeV/c momentum on C, Al, Cu, Sn and Pb nuclear targets was measured with the FOPI spectrometer at the SIS accelerator of GSI. Inclusive production cross-sections and the momentum distributions of K0 mesons are compared to scaled elementary production cross-sections and to predictions of theoretical models describing the in-medium production of kaons. The data represent a new reference for those models, which are widely used for interpretation of the strangeness-production in heavy-ion collisions. The presented results demonstrate the sensitivity of the kaon production to the reaction amplitudes inside nuclei and point to the existence of a repulsive KN-potential of 20+-5 MeV at normal nuclear matter density.

Rapidity density distributions and Boltzmann slope parameter distributions are measured in nearly the full phase space of the reaction. The observables are compared to existing $K^+$ and proton data. While the $K^0$ data agree with previously reported $K^+$ measurements, the $Λ$ distributions show a different behavior relative to that of protons. The strangeness balance and the production yield per participating nucleon as a function of the centrality of the reaction are discussed, for the first time at SIS energies.

The measured double ratio ($K^+/K^0$)$_{Ru}$/($K^+/K^0$)$_{Zr}$ is compared to the predictions of a thermal model and a Relativistic Mean Field transport model using two different collision scenarios and under different assumptions on the stiffness of the symmetry energy. We find a good agreement with the thermal model prediction and the assumption of a soft symmetry energy for infinite nuclear matter while more realistic transport simulations of the collisions show a similar agreement with the data but also exhibit a reduced sensitivity to the symmetry term.

We use the phase space position-velocity ($x,v$) to deal with the statistical properties of velocity dependent dynamical systems, like dissipative ones. Within this approach, we study the statistical properties of an ensemble of harmonic oscillators in a linear weak dissipative media. Using the Debye model of a crystal, we calculate at first order in the dissipative parameter the entropy, free energy, internal energy, equation of state and specific heat using the classical and quantum approaches. for the classical approach we found that the entropy, the equation of state, and the free energy depend on the dissipative parameter, but the internal energy and specific heat do not depend of it. For the quantum case, we found that all the thermodynamical quantities depend on this parameter.

Comparisons between data and model calculations show that the flow energy values along different azimuthal directions could be viewed as snapshots of the fireball expansion with different exposure times. For the same number of participating nucleons more transversally elongated participant shapes from the heavier system produce less collective transverse energy. Good agreement with BUU calculations is obtained for a soft nuclear equation of state.
