A naturally light dilaton
Abstract: Goldstone's theorem does not apply straightforwardly to the case of spontaneously broken scale invariance. We elucidate under what conditions a light scalar degree of freedom, identifiable with the dilaton, can naturally arise. Our construction can be considered an explicit dynamical solution to the cosmological constant problem in the scalar version of gravity.

Selection rules for helicity amplitudes in massive gauge theories
Abstract: After a rediscussion of the vanishing theorems for helicity amplitudes in unbroken gauge theories, we study the case of spontaneously broken gauge theories at high energy. The vanishing theorems generalize to a definite pattern of m/E-suppression of the amplitudes that vanish in the massless case, where E is the energy scale of the process and m is the mass of the gauge vectors. We use only elemen… ▽ More

On Partial Compositeness and the CP asymmetry in charm decays
Abstract: Recently, the LHCb and CDF collaborations reported the measure of an unexpectedly large direct CP asymmetry in D meson decays. In this paper we ask if new physics associated with Partial Compositeness could plausibly explain this result. We find that Composite Higgs models with mass scale around 10 TeV can account for it, while marginally satisfying all other flavor constraints in the quark sector… ▽ More

Supersymmetry phenomenology beyond the MSSM after 5/fb of LHC data
Abstract: We briefly review the status of motivated beyond-the-MSSM phenomenology in the light of the LHC searches to date. In particular, we discuss the conceptual consequences of the exclusion bounds, of the hint for a Higgs boson at about 125 GeV, and of interpreting the excess of direct CP violation in the charm sector as a signal of New Physics. We try to go into the various topics in a compact way whi… ▽ More

Threshold corrections to hard supersymmetric relations
Abstract: We compute the one-loop threshold corrections to hard supersymmetric relations involving gauge and gaugino couplings for the case of a Split-SUSY-like spectrum with moderate splitting. We show that these contributions are small, however in principle they will typically have to be taken into account if the heavy scalar sector is below 100 TeV and if one reaches, at future linear colliders, the prec… ▽ More

Towards leptogenesis at NLO: the right-handed neutrino interaction rate
Abstract: We compute quantum and thermal corrections to the right-handed neutrino interaction rate in the early universe at next-to-leading order in all the relevant SM couplings (gauge, top Yukawa and higgs couplings). Previous computations considered 2 -> 2 scatterings, finding infra-red divergences. The KLN theorem demands that infra-red divergences cancel in the full result: after adding 1 -> 3 and one-… ▽ More

Supersymmetry without a light Higgs boson but with a light pseudoscalar
Abstract: We consider the lambda-SUSY model, a version of the NMSSM with large lambda H_1 H_2 S coupling, relaxing the approximation of large singlet mass and negligible mixing of the scalar singlet with the scalar doublets. We show that there are regions of the parameter space in which the lightest pseudoscalar can be relatively light, with unusual consequences on the decay pattern of the CP-even Higgs bos… ▽ More

U(2) and Minimal Flavour Violation in Supersymmetry
Abstract: Rather than sticking to the full $U(3)^3$ approximate symmetry normally invoked in Minimal Flavour Violation, we analyze the consequences on the current flavour data of a suitably broken $U(2)^3$ symmetry acting on the first two generations of quarks and squarks. A definite correlation emerges between the $ΔF=2$ amplitudes $\cM(K^0 \to \bar K^0)$, $\cM(B_d \to \bar B_d)$ and… ▽ More

CP Violation in Supersymmetry with Effective Minimal Flavour Violation
Abstract: We analyze CP violation in supersymmetry with Effective Minimal Flavour Violation, as recently proposed in arXiv:1011.0730. LHC bounds on large extra dimensions
Abstract: We derive new dominant bounds on the coefficient of the effective operator generated by tree-level graviton exchange in large extra dimensions from pp \rightarrow jj data at LHC: M_T > 2.1TeV (ATLAS after 3.1/pb of integrated luminosity), M_T > 3.4 TeV (CMS after 36/pb), MT > 3.2 TeV (ATLAS after 36/pb). On the QCD corrections to Delta F=2 FCNC in the Supersymmetric SM with hierarchical squark masses
Abstract: In the context of the Supersymmetric Standard Model with hierarchical sfermion masses, we re-analyze the QCD corrections to Delta F=2 effective Hamiltonian properly including effects which have been neglected so far. The point is that some Delta F=2 diagrams, involving both the heavy and the light sparticles, exhibit a logarithmic dependence on the ratio between the two masses, signalling a sensit… ▽ More

Minimal Flavour Violation with hierarchical squark masses
Abstract: In a supersymmetric model with hierarchical squark masses we analyze a pattern of flavour symmetry breaking centered on the special role of the top Yukawa coupling and, by extension, of the full Yukawa couplings for the up-type quarks. Can the Supersymmetric Flavour Problem decouple in case of a Non Standard Supersymmetric Spectrum?
Abstract: It has been shown that, in the context of the MSSM, the Supersymmetric Flavour Problem cannot be solved by just letting the sfermions of the first two generations be relatively heavy. The reason is twofold: naturalness of the Fermi scale on one side, need for positive squared stop masses on the other. The situation is much more promising in models without a light Higgs boson, in which the goal can… ▽ More

A Non Standard Supersymmetric Spectrum
Abstract: Taking a bottom-up point of view and focussing on the lack of signals so far in the Higgs and in the flavour sectors, we argue in favour of giving consideration to supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model where the lightest Higgs boson has a mass between 200 and 300 GeV and the first two generations of s-fermions are above 20 TeV. Naturalness bounds in extensions of the MSSM without a light Higgs boson
Abstract: Adopting a bottom-up point of view, we make a comparative study of the simplest extensions of the MSSM with extra tree level contributions to the lightest Higgs boson mass. We show to what extent a relatively heavy Higgs boson, up to 200-350 GeV, can be compatible with data and naturalness. The price to pay is that the theory undergoes some change of regime at a relatively low scale. Bounds on the… ▽ More

Including QCD radiation corrections in transplanckian scattering
Abstract: In the context of Large Extra Dimensions the fundamental Planck scale can be as low as the TeV scale. If this is the way of nature, quantum gravity effects could be visible at the LHC or other High energy colliders. A model independent signal is given by elastic scattering at small angles and transplanckian energy, which can be computed in the eikonal approximation. It is interesting both from a p… ▽ More

Radiation Problem in Transplanckian Scattering

Vector-like quarks in a composite Higgs model
Abstract: Vector-like quarks are a common feature of "composite" Higgs models, where they intervene in cutting off the top-loop contribution to the Higgs boson mass and may, at the same time, affect the Electroweak Precision Tests (EWPT). A model based on SO(5)/SO(4) is here analyzed. In a specific non minimal version, vector-like quarks of mass as low as 300-500 GeV are allowed in a thin region of its pa… ▽ More
