SMaSH: A Benchmarking Toolkit for Human Genome Variant Calling
Abstract: Motivation: Computational methods are essential to extract actionable information from raw sequencing data, and to thus fulfill the promise of next-generation sequencing technology. Unfortunately, computational tools developed to call variants from human sequencing data disagree on many of their predictions, and current methods to evaluate accuracy and computational performance are ad-hoc and inco… ▽ More

On translation invariant symmetric polynomials and Haldane's conjecture
Abstract: We show that the ring of translation invariant symmetric polynomials in n variables is isomorphic to the full polynomial ring in n-1 variables, in characteristic 0. We disprove a conjecture of Haldane regarding the structure of such polynomials. Our motivation is the fractional quantum Hall effect, where translation invariant (anti)symmetric complex n-variate polynomials characterize n-electron… ▽ More

Generalized Tambara-Yamagami categories
Abstract: Fusion rules generalize groups by allowing multivalued multiplication. Groups are fusion rules of simple current index 1. We classify nilpotent (in the sense of Gelaki and Nikshych) fusion rules of simple current index 2, and characterize the associated fusion categories.
