We seek to identify genes involved in Parkinson's Disease (PD) by combining information across different experiment types. Each experiment, taken individually, may contain too little information to distinguish some important genes from incidental ones. However, when experiments are combined using the proposed statistical framework, additional power emerges. The fundamental building block of the family of statistical models that we propose is a hierarchical three-group mixture of distributions. Each gene is modeled probabilistically as belonging to either a null group that is unassociated with PD, a deleterious group, or a beneficial group. This three-group formalism has two key features. By apportioning prior probability of group assignments with a Dirichlet distribution, the resultant posterior group probabilities automatically account for the multiplicity inherent in analyzing many genes simultaneously. By building models for experimental outcomes conditionally on the group labels, any number of data modalities may be combined in a single coherent probability model, allowing information sharing across experiment types. These two features result in parsimonious inference with few false positives, while simultaneously enhancing power to detect signals. Simulations show that our three-groups approach performs at least as well as commonly-used tools for GWAS and RNA-seq, and in some cases it performs better. We apply our proposed approach to publicly-available GWAS and RNA-seq datasets, discovering novel genes that are potential therapeutic targets.

In 2018, Brazil presented a new law that has the proposal to inform how personal data should be collected and treated, to guarantee the security and integrity of the data holder. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the principles of the General Law on Personal Data Protection, informing real cases of leakage of personal data and thus obtaining an understanding of the importance of gains that meet the interests of Internet users on the subject and its benefits to the entire Brazilian society.

This article proposes an algorithm for a servo motor that controls the movement of an autonomous terrestrial mobile robot using Paraconsistent Logic. The design process of mechatronic systems guided the robot construction phases. The project intends to monitor the robot through its sensors that send positioning signals to the microcontroller. The signals are adjusted by an embedded technology interface maintained in the concepts of Paraconsistent Annotated Logic acting directly on the servo steering motor. The electric signals sent to the servo motor were analyzed, and it indicates that the algorithm paraconsistent can contribute to the increase of precision of movements of servo motors.

Detecting and explaining anomalies is a challenging effort. This holds especially true when data exhibits strong dependencies and single measurements need to be assessed and analyzed in their respective context. In this work, we consider scenarios where measurements are non-i.i.d, i.e. where samples are dependent on corresponding discrete latent variables which are connected through some given dependency structure, the contextual information. Our contribution is twofold: (i) Building atop of support vector data description (SVDD), we derive a method able to cope with latent-class dependency structure that can still be optimized efficiently. We further show that our approach neatly generalizes vanilla SVDD as well as k-means and conditional random fields (CRF) and provide a corresponding probabilistic interpretation. (ii) In unsupervised scenarios where it is not possible to quantify the accuracy of an anomaly detector, having an human-interpretable solution is the key to success. Based on deep Taylor decomposition and a reformulation of our trained anomaly detector as a neural network, we are able to backpropagate predictions to pixel-domain and thus identify features and regions of high relevance. We demonstrate the usefulness of our novel approach on toy data with known spatio-temporal structure and successfully validate on synthetic as well as real world off-shore data from the oil industry.

The thermodynamical aspects of the conformal time scale factor duality (SFD) of cosmological models within Einstein Gravity are investigated. We derive the SFD transformations of the thermodynamical quantities describing the thermal evolution of the matter fluid and of the apparent horizon. The thermodynamical properties of the self-dual cosmological models with a modified Chaplygin gas are studied in detail. We deduce the restrictions on the equation of state parameters that allow to extend scale factor duality as a UV/IR symmetry of the cosmological models consistent with their thermodynamical behavior.

The scale factor duality is a symmetry of dilaton gravity which is known to lead to pre-big-bang cosmologies. A conformal time version of the scale factor duality (SFD) was recently implemented as a UV/IR symmetry between decelerated and accelerated phases of the post-big-bang evolution within Einstein gravity coupled to a scalar field. The problem investigated in the present paper concerns the employment of the conformal time SFD methods to the construction of pre-big-bang and cyclic extensions of these models. We demonstrate that each big-bang model gives rise to two qualitatively different pre-big-bang evolutions: a contraction/expansion SFD model and Penrose's Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (CCC). A few examples of SFD symmetric cyclic universes involving certain gauged Kähler sigma models minimally coupled to Einstein gravity are studied. We also describe the specific SFD features of the thermodynamics and the conditions for validity of the generalized second law in the case of Gauss-Bonnet (GB) extension of these selected CCC models.

Various project management approaches do not consider the impact that uncertainties have on the project. The identified threats by uncertainty in a projec day-to-day are real and immediate and the expectations in a project are often high. The project manager faces a dilemma: decisions must be made in the present about future situations which are inherently uncertain. The use of uncertainty management in project can be a determining factor for the project success. This paper presents a systematic review about uncertainties management in software projects and a guide is proposed based on the review. It aims to present the best practices to manage uncertainties in software projects in a structured way including techniques and strategies to uncertainties containment.

The holographic renormalization group (RG) flows in certain self-dual two dimensional QFT's models are studied. They are constructed as holographic duals to specific New Massive 3d Gravity (NMG) models coupled to scalar matter with "partially self-dual" superpotentials. The standard holographic RG constructions allow us to derive the exact form of their $β$- functions in terms of the corresponding NMG's domain walls solutions. By imposing invariance of the free energy, the central function and of the anomalous dimensions under specific matter field's duality transformation, we have found the conditions on the superpotentials of two different NMG's models, such that their dual 2d QFT's are related by a simple strong-weak coupling transformation.

We derive a BPS-like first order system of equations for a family of flat static domain walls (DWs) of dimensionally extended cubic Lovelock Gravity coupled to massive scalar self-interacting matter. The explicit construction of such DWs is achieved by introducing of an appropriate matter superpotential. We further analyse the dependence of the geometric properties of the asymptotically AdSd space-times representing distinct DWs on the shape of the matter potential, on the values of the Lovelock couplings and on the scalar field boundary conditions. Few explicit examples of Lovelock DWs interpolating between AdS-type vacua of different cosmological constants are presented. In five dimensions our method provides interesting solutions of the Myers-Robinson Quasi-topological Gravity in the presence of matter important for the description of the specific renormalization group flows in its holographic dual four-dimensional CFT perturbed by relevant operators.
