A Natural Copula

Copulas are widely used in financial economics as well as in other areas of applied mathematics. Yet, there is much arbitrariness in their choice. The author proposes "a natural copula" concept, which minimizes Wasserstein distance between distributions in some space, in which both these distributions are embedded. Transport properties and hydrodynamic interpretation are discussed with two examples of distributions of financial significance. A natural copula can be parsimoniously estimated by the methods of linear programming.

Discrimination between cosmological and stellar phenomena by the intensity interferometry

Abstract:
We provide a quantitative theory of discrimination between objects with the same color temperature but having different angular spectrum by intensity interferometry. The two-point correlation function of the black body image with extended angular spectrum has significant differences with a correlation function of a black body with a narrow angular spectrum.

Transmission of market orders through communication line with relativistic delay

Dual State-Space Model of Market Liquidity: The Chinese Experience 2009-2010

This paper proposes and motivates a dynamical model of the Chinese stock market based on a linear regression in a dual state space connected to the original state space of correlations between the volume-at-price buckets by a Fourier transform. This paper proposes and motivates a dynamical model of the Chinese stock market based on a linear regression in a dual state space connected to the original state space of correlations between the volume-at-price buckets by a Fourier transform. We apply our model to the price migration of executed orders by the Chinese brokerages in 2009-2010. Regulatory brokerage tapes were used to conduct a natural experiment assuming that tapes correspond to randomly assigned, informed and uninformed traders. Our analysis demonstrated that customers' orders were tightly correlated--in a highly nonlinear sense of the neural networks--with the Chinese market sentiment index, significantly correlated with the stock returns and exhibited no correlation with the bellwether bond of the Bank of China. We did not notice any spike of illiquidity transmitting from the US Flash Crash in May 2010 to trading in China.

Comment on Frauchiger and Renner paper (Nat. Commun. 9, 3711 (2018)): the problem of stop** times

The Gedankenexperiment advanced by Frauchiger and Renner in their "Nature" paper was based on an implicit assumption that one can synchronize stochastic measurement intervals between two non-interacting systems. This hypothesis, the author demonstrates, is equivalent to the complete entanglement of these systems. Consequently, Frauchiger and Renner's postulate Q is meaningless and needs to be narrowed. Accurate reformulation of the postulate Q1 does not entail any paradoxes with measurement. This paper is agnostic concerning particular interpretations of quantum mechanics. Nor does it refer to the "collapse of the wavefunction."

Entangled-path interferometer simpler, faster than LISA
Authors:
Peter B. Lerner
Abstract:
Entangled light can provide a seminal improvement in resolution sensitivity even without achieving Heisenberg limit in a single channel. In this paper, based on the back-of-the-envelope type calculations, I demonstrate an alternative path to space based long-arm interferometer. Its advantage with respect to LISA is that it does not require complex satellites with many active components to achieve…

The Quantum Abacus: Analog Computing using Surface Rydberg States
Authors:

Abstract:
Recently, Rydberg atoms appeared as a viable alternative to the quantum gates built on atomic or molecular ions. The lifetimes of the circular Rydberg states can be in the millisecond range. That prevents inherent metastability of the Rydberg atoms to influence computation at the typical decoherence times, which are now being achieved in the range of 1 ms. The paper proposes to use a pinning potential of an image charge on a cryogenic substrate (liquid He, in particular) to confine large densities of Rydberg atoms to dielectric surfaces. The substrate can also act as a natural cooler medium. A design of the computer (quantum abacus) based on these ideas is briefly sketched in the paper.

The manipulation of LIBOR by a group of banks became one of the major blows to the remaining confidence in financial industry. Yet, despite an enormous amount of popular literature on the subject, rigorous time-series studies are few. In my paper, I discuss the following hypothesis. Namely, if we should assume for a statistical null, the quotes, which were submitted by the member banks were true, the deviations from the LIBOR should have been entirely random because they were determined by idiosyncratic conditions by the member banks. This hypothesis can be statistically verified. Serial correlations of the rates, which cannot be explained by the differences in credit qualities of the member banks or the domicile Governments, were subjected to correlation tests. A new econometric method--the analysis of the Wigner-Ville function borrowed from quantum mechanics and signal processing--is used and explained for the statistical interpretation of regression residuals.

The author attempts here to propose a simplified algebraic formalism similar to Malliavin calculus, but based on the notion of creation-annihilation operators instead of Malliavin derivative to replace analytic theorems with algebraic computations. Three test problems: the valuation of portfolio with stochastic payoff function, the expression of the terminal payoff through stochastic integral and the approximate equation for the high-frequency market measure are discussed in Appendices.
