This work is focused on the exploration of the thermodynamics foundations of the matter creation scenario when a generalized form of the second law of thermodynamics for this scheme is implemented. In this scenario we consider an expanding cosmology in which the created matter is trapped by the apparent horizon. The scheme leads to phantom evolution but at first glance it lacks of physical consistency. However, the inclusion of chemical potential into the description solves the thermodynamics issues of the model and determines the behavior of the cosmic fluid, in other words, the cosmic fluid now can behave as phantom dark energy or as quintessence one.

We review a dynamical dark energy model scarcely studied in the literature and we introduce two possible generalizations. We discuss separately the behavior of the original model and a minimal extension of it by exploring some early and late times limits, we find that the cosmic components are related by their parameters state. In order to have access to the phantom regime we present two dark energy densities inspired from the holographic approach and from the emergent entropic forces model in the early universe. For the first case we obtain a Type III singularity and in the second proposal we have a transition from decelerated to accelerated cosmic expansion that starts as phantom type. However, the final stage of the universe is a de Sitter state.

The consideration of the holographic dark energy approach and matter creation effects in a single cosmological model is carried out in this work accordingly, we discuss some cases of interest. We test this cosmological proposal against recent observations. Considering the best fit values obtained for the free cosmological parameters, the model exhibits a transition from a decelerated cosmic expansion to an accelerated one. The deceleration-acceleration transition can not be determined consistently from the coincidence parameter for this kind of model. At effective level the parameter state associated to the whole energy density contribution describes a quintessence scenario in the fluid analogy at present time.

In this work we test the capability of an exact solution found in the framework of a non linear extension of the Israel-Stewart theory to fit the supernovae Ia data. This exact solution is a generalization of one previously found in the context of the near equilibrium description of dissipative processes, where a dissipative unified dark matter model is studied, such generalized solution does not represent the full regime of the non linear picture, we restrict ourselves to the case where a positive entropy production is guaranteed. It is found that for some specific values of the parameter that characterizes the non linear effects, namely $k$, the $χ^{2}_{min}$ value obtained from the statistical analysis is slightly lower than the corresponding one to the $Λ$CDM model. Given that we are dealing with a more realistic description of the fluid we must introduce more free parameters, this results as evidence against the model based on the BIC value. However, despite this statistical drawback we find that this model could be a good candidate to mimic the $Λ$CDM model for redshift values at $z<1$. In this sense, we show that the non linear regime of the Israel-Stewart theory describes consistently the recent accelerated expansion of the universe without the inclusion of some kind of dark energy component.

In this work we explore the scope of two holographic dark energy models within the interacting scenario for the dark sector and spatial curvature. For one holographic model we consider the usual formula for the dark energy density with the Hubble scale and the second model is given in terms of a function instead of a constant parameter as in the usual holographic formula. In this description both holographic models admit a future singularity. The use of recent cosmological data is considered only to support the physical results of our proposal. The interaction term for each holographic model, $Q$, keeps positive along the cosmic evolution and are not given a priori, they are reconstructed from the dynamics of the model. The temperatures for the components of the dark sector are computed and exhibit a growing behavior in both scenarios. The cosmic evolution in this context it is not adiabatic and the second law it is fulfilled only under certain well-established conditions for the temperatures of the cosmic components and positive $Q$-terms.

We discuss a four-dimensional gravitational action which was obtained replacing a Randall-Sundrum type metric in the so called five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons gravity action. We studied black hole solutions of the corresponding 4-dimensional gravitational field equations. It is found that for a spherically symmetric metric such equations lead to a spacetime with a cosmological constant inversely proportional to the square of the compactification radius and to one solution dependent on an arbitrary constant C. If this constant is negative, we find a Schwarzschid-de Sitter black hole. If C is positive, the solution can be understood as a white hole solution which is obtained applying to the solution with C<0 the discrete coordinate transformation PT accompanied by the transformation C -C, with C>0, corresponding to a transformation known as mass reversal.

This study is complemented with an statistical analysis for each case. The first scenario considers the inclusion of matter production as a possible source of cosmic expansion in the reconstructed mimetic model, at effective level was found that this construction can cross the phantom divide, the model evolves from quintessence to phantom dark energy. The second scenario corresponds to a construction of an interacting scheme for the dark sector which is described by the unified mimetic model. The resulting interaction term (not imposed by an Ansatz), $Q$, exhibits changes of sign leading to the violation of the second law along the cosmic evolution and non adiabaticity; the temperatures for the components of the dark sector are computed and such components are shown to be out of thermal equilibrium.

We use methods from non--linear dynamical systems theory and averaging theory considering a time--dependent perturbation function $D$. We define a regular dynamical system over a compact phase space, obtaining global results. That is, for KS metric the global late--time attractors of full and time--averaged systems are two anisotropic contracting solutions, which are non--flat locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) Kasner and Taub (flat LRS Kasner) for $0\leq γ\leq 2$, and flat FLRW matter--dominated universe if $0\leq γ\leq \frac{2}{3}$. For closed FLRW metric late--time attractors of full and averaged systems are a flat matter--dominated FLRW universe for $0\leq γ\leq \frac{2}{3}$ as in KS and Einstein-de Sitter solution for $0\leqγ<1$. Therefore, time--averaged system determines future asymptotics of full system. Also, oscillations entering the system through Klein-Gordon (KG) equation can be controlled and smoothed out when $D$ goes monotonically to zero, and incidentally for the whole $D$-range for KS and for closed FLRW (if $0\leq γ< 1$) too. However, for $γ\geq 1$ closed FLRW solutions of the full system depart from the solutions of the averaged system as $D$ is large. Our results are supported by numerical simulations.

Therefore, the simplest time-averaged system determines the future asymptotic behavior. Depending on the values of $γ$, the late-time attractors of physical interests are flat quintessence dominated FLRW universe and Einstein-de Sitter solution. With this approach, the oscillations entering the system through the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation can be controlled and smoothed out as the Hubble parameter $H$ - acting as time-dependent perturbation parameter - tends monotonically to zero. We explore the cosmological implications at effective level of matter creation effects in a dissipative fluid for a FLRW geometry; we also perform a statistical analysis for this kind of model. By considering an inhomogeneous Ansatz for the particle production rate we obtain that for created matter of dark matter type we can have a quintessence scenario or a future singularity known as little rip; in dependence of the value of a constant parameter, $η$, which characterizes the matter production effects. The dimensionless age of this kind of Universe is computed, showing that this number is greater than the standard cosmology value, this is typical of universes with presence of dark energy. The inclusion of baryonic matter is studied. By implementing the construction of the particle production rate for a dissipative fluid by considering two approaches for the expression of the bulk viscous pressure; we find that in Eckart model we have a big rip singularity leading to a catastrophic matter production and in the truncated version of the Israel-Stewart model such rate remains bounded leading to a quintessence scenario. For a non adiabatic dissipative fluid, we obtain a positive temperature and the cosmic expansion obeys the second law of thermodynamics.

The resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic, the fulfillment of the second law of thermodynamics requires a positive torsion term, and the temperature of the cosmic fluid is always positive. The entropy of the torsion phantom scenario is negative, but introducing chemical potential solves this issue. For a Dirac-Milne type Universe, the torsion leads to a growing behavior for the temperature of the fluid but has no incidence on the rate of expansion.

Allowing for a nonvanishing spin tensor for cold dark matter ($ω_{\mathrm{DM}}=0$) has the consequence of giving rise to an effective $\mathrm{FLRW}$ dynamics with a small negative barotropic constant for an effective dark matter density ($-1/3<ω_{\mathrm{eff}}\leq0$). We perform a study both statistical and theoretical for cosmological models of matter creation and their ability to describe effective phantom models of dark energy. Such models are beyond the $Λ$CDM model since the resulting cosmic expansion is not adiabatic. In fact, we show that this approach exhibits transient phantom/quintessence scenarios at present time and tends to the standard cosmological model at some stage of the cosmic evolution. We discuss some generalities of the thermodynamics properties for this type of cosmological model; we emphasize on the behavior of the temperature associated to dark matter, which keeps positive along cosmic evolution together with the entropy. The enrichment of this type of model by means of the incorporation of cosmological constant and dissipative effects in the fluid description to explore their cosmological consequences in the expansion of the universe is considered. Finally, a generalization for the matter production rate as an inhomogeneous expression of the Hubble parameter and its derivatives is discussed; as in all the cases examined, such election leads to an effective phantom/quintessence behavior.

In this paper we study the Statefinder and $Om(x)$ diagnoses of an exact solution of a unified dissipative dark matter model in the framework the Israel-Stewart theory and its non linear extension, considering the condition of positive entropy production. The implementation of two diagnoses in the pair of solutions reveal that both solutions can emulate the $Λ$CDM model at some stage of the cosmic evolution and behave as quintessence dark energy. The stability of both solutions is discussed from the point of view of the Liapunov's method, showing that they are asymptotic stable. Additionally we show that the solutions are also stable under small perturbations. A simple analysis of the solutions with the use of observational data suggests that the non linear regime could lead to a inconsistencies-free scenario, i.e., in agreement with the bounds obtained from the perturbative analysis for the velocity of bulk viscous perturbations.

In this work we study some aspects of the Rastall gravity, being the thermodynamics consistency of the model the core of this paper, for this purpose we will consider the dynamical equations of Rastall model in a flat FLRW geometry. Under a holographic description can be seen that this scenario for gravity contributes to the energy density of the fluid with an extra term that can be related to the deceleration parameter, providing a way to estimate the value of the Rastall parameter, termed as $ξλ$, at present time. By adopting a specific Ansatz for the $ξλ$ term it is possible to determine that the behaviour of the Hubble parameter in Rastall gravity has a similar aspect to the $Λ$CDM model at late times, but at thermodynamics level differs from the standard cosmology since the adiabatic behaviour for the entropy depends on the value of the parameter state, $ω$. However, the entropy has a positive growth and simultaneously its convexity condition can be guaranteed; when other contributions are considered such as matter production and chemical potential, the adiabatic expansion can not be achieved, but the theory keeps its thermodynamics consistency. The chemical potential seems to have an interesting role since at effective level we could have a cosmological constant or phantom expansion in the model.

In this work we explore some cosmological properties coming from the particle and future horizons when are considered as candidates to model the dark energy sector within a holographic context in a flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe; we focus on some thermodynamics characteristics of the resulting dark energy scenario. Within the interacting scheme for cosmological fluids we obtain that in the dark sector, the dark energy fluid will always have negative entropy production and additionally, the positivity for the entropy and temperature can not be guaranteed simultaneously; this result holds for both horizons. However, this last issue can be solved if chemical potential is introduced in the thermodynamics description. For the non interacting approach, we obtain similar results as those of the single fluid description for the entropy behavior. We also find that the model admits a genuine big rip singularity when the dark energy density is sketched by the future horizon, in consequence the resulting parameter state can cross to the phantom regime. For the particle horizon case the cosmological fluid can emulate ordinary matter and the coincidence parameter has a decreasing behavior when the future horizon is elected.

In the present paper, the effects of viscous dark matter are analysed within the $Λ$CDM model. Here we consider bulk viscosity through the Israel-Stewart theory approach, leading to an effective pressure term in the continuity equation that accomplishes for the dissipative effects of the dark matter fluid. Then, the corresponding equation for viscosity is solved and a general equation for the Hubble parameter is obtained with the presence of a cosmological constant. The existence of de Sitter solutions is discussed, where a wider range of solutions is found in comparison to the $Λ$CDM model. Also the conditions for the near thermodynamical equilibrium of the fluid is analysed. Finally, a qualitative analysis provides some constraints on the model by using Supernovae Ia data which reveals the possible importance of causal thermodynamics in cosmology.

Based on results coming from the use of observational data, we consider a positive interaction $Q$-term together with a Chevallier-Polarsky-Linder type parametrization for the coincidence parameter, we realize that the model admits a Type III future singularity, in this singular universe we have that for a null value of the curvature parameter its scale factor is a constant value. With the use of some cosmological parameters constrained with observational data, we obtain that the crossing of the phantom divide is possible. Once the singular nature is obtained for the model, its Statefinder diagnosis reveals a behavior that is {\it far} from the $Λ$-CDM model.

In particular, we investigate the bulk/boundary interaction in this scenario through the $Q$ function, which we interpret as a measure of the energy transference between the bulk and the spacetime boundary. Then we discuss whether the thermal equilibrium will be stable or not, once it is reached, and the validity of the generalized second law. We show that the $Q$ function can exhibit sign changes along the cosmic evolution and the Universe reaches the thermal equilibrium as a transient phenomenon.

In this work we explore a new cosmological solution for an universe filled with one dissipative fluid, described by a barotropic EoS $p = ωρ$, in the framework of the full Israel-Stewart theory. The form of the bulk viscosity has been assumed of the form $ξ= ξ_{0}ρ^{1/2}$. The relaxation time is taken to be a function of the EoS, the bulk viscosity and the speed of bulk viscous perturbations, $c_{b}$. The solution presents an initial singularity, where the curvature scalar diverges as the scale factor goes to zero. Depending on the values for $ω$, $ξ_{0}$, $c_{b}$ accelerated and decelerated cosmic expansion can be obtained. In the case of accelerated expansion, the viscosity drives the effective EoS to be of quintessence type, for the single fluid with positive pressure. Nevertheless, we show that only the solution with decelerated expansion satisfies the thermodynamics conditions $dS/dt > 0$ (growth of the entropy) and $d^{2}S/dt^{2} < 0$ (convexity condition). We show that an exact stiff matter EoS is not allowed in the framework of the full causal thermodynamic approach; and in the case of a EoS very close to the stiff matter regime, we found that dissipative effects becomes negligible so the entropy remains constant. Finally, we show numerically that the solution is stable under small perturbations.

It is performed a detailed dynamical analysis for a bulk viscosity model in the full Israel-Stewart formalism for a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe. In our study we have considered the total cosmic fluid constituted by radiation, dark matter and dark energy. The dark matter fluid is treated as an imperfect fluid which has a bulk viscosity that depends on its energy density in the usual form $ξ(ρ_{m})=ξ_{0} ρ_{m}^{1/2}$, whereas the other components are assumed to behave as perfect fluids with constant EoS parameter. We show that the thermal history of the Universe is reproduced provided that the viscous coefficient satisfies the condition $ξ_{0}\ll 1$, either for a zero or a suitable nonzero coupling between dark energy and viscous dark matter. In this case, the final attractor is a dark-energy-dominated, accelerating Universe, with effective EoS parameter in the quintessence-like, cosmological constant-like or phantom-like regime, in agreement with observations. As our main result, we show that in order to obtain a viable cosmological evolution and at the same time alleviating the cosmological coincidence problem via the mechanism of scaling solution, an explicit interaction between dark energy and viscous dark matter seems inevitable. This result is consistent with the well-known fact that models where dark matter and dark energy interact with each other have been proposed to solve the coincidence problem. Furthermore, by insisting in above, we show that in the present context a phantom nature of this interacting dark energy fluid is also favored.

A phantom solution in the framework of the causal Israel-Stewart (IS) formalism is discussed. We assume a late time behavior of the cosmic evolution by considering only one dominant matter fluid with viscosity. In the model it is assumed a bulk viscosity of the form $ξ= ξ_{0}ρ^{1/2}$, where $ρ$ is the energy density of the fluid. We evaluate and discuss the behavior of the thermodynamical parameters associated to this solution, like the temperature, rate of entropy, entropy, relaxation time, effective pressure and effective EoS. A discussion about the assumption of near equilibrium of the formalism and the accelerated expansion of the solution is presented. The solution allows to cross the phantom divide without evoking an exotic matter fluid and the effective EoS parameter is always lesser than $-1$ and time independent. A future singularity (big rip) occurs, but different from the Type I (big rip) solution classified in S. Nojiri, S. D. Odintsov and S. Tsujikawa, Phys. Rev. We revise the early stage (curvature-dependent) of this cosmology, where a term reminiscent of stiff matter is the dominant, and in this stage we find a power-law solution for the cosmic scale factor although $ω=-1$. Late and early phantom schemes are obtained without requiring $ω<-1$. Nevertheless, these schemes are not feasible according to what is shown in this paper. We also show that $ ω=-1$ alone does not imply a de Sitter phase in the present cosmology. Thermal aspects are revised by considering the energy interchange between the bulk and the spacetime boundary and we conclude that there is no thermal equilibrium between them. Finally, a ghost scalar graviton (extra degree of freedom in HL gravity) is required by the observational data.

We have included two barotropic fluids and a dark energy component. One of the barotropic fluids is treated as an imperfect fluid having bulk viscosity, whereas the other components are assumed to behave as perfect fluids. Both barotropic fluids are identified as either radiation or dark matter. Considering that the bulk viscosity acts on either radiation or dark matter, we find that viscous phantom solutions with stable behavior are not allowed in the framework of complete cosmological dynamics. Only an almost zero value of the bulk viscosity allows a transition from a radiation-dominated to a matter-dominated epoch, which then evolves to an accelerated late time expansion, dominated by dark energy.

The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy for the positive branch $(ε=+1)$. For the negative branch $(ε=-1)$ we have investigated the behavior of a model with an holographic Ricci-like dark energy and dark matter, where the IR cutoff takes the form $αH^2 + β\dot{H}$, being $H$ the Hubble parameter and $α$, $β$ positive constants of the model. We perform an analytical study of the model in the late-time dark energy dominated epoch, where we obtain a solution for $r_cH(z)$, where $r_c$ is the leakage scale of gravity into the bulk, and conditions for the negative branch on the holographic parameters $α$ and $β$, in order to hold the conditions of weak energy and accelerated universe. On the other hand, we compare the model versus the late-time cosmological data using the latest type Ia supernova sample of the Joint Light-curve Analysis (JLA), in order to constraint the holographic parameters in the negative branch, as well as $r_cH_0$ in the positive branch, where $H_0$ is the Hubble constant. We find that the model has a good fit to the data and that the most likely values for $(r_cH_0, α, β)$ lie in the permitted region found from an analytical solution in a dark energy dominated universe. We give a justification to use holographic cut-off in 4D for the dark energy in the 5 dimensional DGP model. Finally, using the Bayesian Information Criterion we find that this model it is disfavored compared with the flat $Λ$CDM model.

At early times, the Horava- Lifshitz cosmology contains a curvature-dependent dominant term which is stiff matter-reminiscent and this fact motivates to discuss, in some detail, this term beside the usual stiff matter component (pressure=density) if we are thinking in the role that this fluid could have played early in the framework of the holographic cosmology. Nevertheless, we show that an early stiff matter component is of little relevance in Horava-Lifshitz cosmology.

Abstract:
We study the behavior of a scalar field under a z = 3 Lifshitz black hole background, in a way that is non-minimally coupled to the gravitational field. A general analytical solution is obtained along with two sets of quasinormal modes associated to different boundary conditions that can be imposed on the scalar field, non-minimal coupling parameter appears explicitly on these solutions. Stability of quasinormal modes can be studied and ensured for both cases. Also, the reflection and absorption coefficients are calculated, as well as the absorption cross section which features an interesting behavior because of being attenuated by terms strongly dependant on the non-minimal coupling. By a suitable change of variables a soliton solution can also be obtained and the stability of the quasinormal modes are studied and ensured.

Γ-sign in entropic cosmology

Abstract:
We study a cosmology by considering entropic issues. We make a bare/effective description of the equation of state of the cosmic fluid through a bare (ω)/effective (ω_eff) conservation equation. In the bare case, where we have a non conserved equation of state for the cosmic fluid, we describe the change in the sign of the inhomogeneus term at different times of the cosmic evolution. We show that…

We show that by a redefinition of the adiabatic ω-parameter we can recover the usual scheme for the cosmic evolution. In the effective case we show also that if the evolution is driven by dust or cosmological constant, the universe evolves on the thermal equilibrium. Additionally, by incorporating a quantum correction only cosmological constant can drive an evolution on thermal equilibrium.

The braneworld model proposed by Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati leads to an accelerated universe without cosmological constant or other form of dark energy. Nevertheless, we have investigated the consequences of this model when an holo- graphic dark energy is included, taken the Hubble scale as IR cutoff. We have found that the holographic dark energy leads to an accelerated universe flat (de Sitter like expansion) for the two branch: {\ko} = \pm1 of the DGP model. Nevertheless, in universes with no null curvature the dark energy presents an EoS corresponding to a phantom fluid during the present era and evolving to a de Sitter like phase for future cosmic time. In the special case in which the holographic parameter c is equal to one we have found a sudden singularity in closed universes. In this case the expansion is decelerating. Manuscript
