We construct an integral transformation intertwining the Gelfand-Tsetlin and the (modified) Gauss-Givental realizations of principle series representations of gl(3). This provides a direct identification of the corresponding integral representations for the gl(3)-Whittaker function. The construction essentially uses integral identities due to Barnes and Gustafson thus providing a basis for their representation theory interpretation. The result of this paper might be useful for constructing the explicit analytic realization of the mirror symmetry map in the case of the flag manifold GL(3)/B.

Superconducting Nb thin films have recently attracted significant attention due to their utility for quantum information technologies. In the processing of Nb thin films, fluoride-based chemical etchants are commonly used to remove surface oxides that are known to affect superconducting quantum devices adversely. However, these same etchants can also introduce hydrogen to form Nb hydrides, potentially negatively impacting microwave loss performance. Here, we present comprehensive materials characterization of Nb hydrides formed in Nb thin films as a function of fluoride chemical treatments. In particular, secondary-ion mass spectrometry, X-ray scattering, and transmission electron microscopy reveal the spatial distribution and phase transformation of Nb hydrides. The rate of hydride formation is determined by the fluoride solution acidity and the etch rate of Nb2O5, which acts as a diffusion barrier for hydrogen into Nb. The resulting Nb hydrides are detrimental to Nb superconducting properties and lead to increased power-independent microwave loss in coplanar waveguide resonators. However, Nb hydrides do not correlate with two-level system loss or device aging mechanisms. Overall, this work provides insight into the formation of Nb hydrides and their role in microwave loss, thus guiding ongoing efforts to maximize coherence time in superconducting quantum devices.

Optical control of spin in semiconductors has been pioneered using nanostructures of III-V and II-VI semiconductors, but the emergence of two-dimensional van der Waals materials offers an alternative low-dimensional platform for spintronic phenomena. Indium selenide (InSe), a group-III monochalcogenide van der Waals material, has shown promise for opto-electronics due to its high electron mobility, tunable direct bandgap, and quantum transport. There are predictions of spin-dependent optical selection rules suggesting potential for all-optical excitation and control of spin in a two-dimensional layered material. Despite these predictions, layer-dependent optical spin phenomena in InSe have yet to be explored. Here, we present measurements of layer-dependent optical spin dynamics in few-layer and bulk InSe. Polarized photoluminescence reveals layer-dependent optical orientation of spin, thereby demonstrating the optical selection rules in few-layer InSe. Spin dynamics are also studied in many-layer InSe using time-resolved Kerr rotation spectroscopy. By applying out-of-plane and in-plane static magnetic fields for polarized emission measurements and Kerr measurements, respectively, the $g$-factor for InSe was extracted. Further investigations are done by calculating precession values using a $\textbf{k} \cdot \textbf{p}$ model, which is supported by \textit{ab-initio} density functional theory. Comparison of predicted precession rates with experimental measurements highlights the importance of excitonic effects in InSe for understanding spin dynamics. Optical orientation of spin is an important prerequisite for opto-spintronic phenomena and devices, and these first demonstrations of layer-dependent optical excitation of spins in InSe lay the foundation for combining layer-dependent spin properties with advantageous electronic properties found in this material.

We consider the revenue management problem of finding profit-maximising prices for delivery time slots in the context of attended home delivery. This multi-stage optimal control problem admits a dynamic programming formulation that is intractable for realistic problem sizes due to the so-called "curse of dimensionality". Therefore, we study three approximate dynamic programming algorithms both from a control-theoretical perspective and in a parametric numerical case study. Our numerical analysis is based on real-world data, from which we generate multiple scenarios to stress-test the robustness of the pricing policies to errors in model parameter estimates. Our theoretical analysis and numerical benchmark tests show that one of these algorithms, namely gradient-bounded dynamic programming, dominates the others with respect to computation time and profit-generation capabilities of the delivery slot pricing policies that it generates. Finally, we show that uncertainty in the estimates of the model parameters further increases the profit-generation dominance of this approach.

We consider stochastic dynamic programming problems with high-dimensional, discrete state-spaces and finite, discrete-time horizons that prohibit direct computation of the value function from a given Bellman equation for all states and time steps due to the "curse of dimensionality". For the case where the value function of the dynamic program is concave extensible and submodular in its state-space, we present a new algorithm that computes deterministic upper and stochastic lower bounds of the value function in the realm of dual dynamic programming. We show that the proposed algorithm terminates after a finite number of iterations. Furthermore, we derive probabilistic guarantees on the value accumulated under the associated policy for a single realisation of the dynamic program and for the expectation of this value. Finally, we demonstrate the efficacy of our approach on a high-dimensional numerical example from delivery slot pricing in attended home delivery.

Meanwhile, splitting holds for classical groups corresponding to the root systems $A_\ell$, $B_\ell$, $D_\ell$. For the remaining classical groups corresponding to the root systems $C_\ell$ there still exists an embedding of the Tits extension of $W_G$ into normalizer $N_G(H_G)$. We provide explicit unified construction of the lifts of the Weyl groups into normalizers of maximal tori for classical Lie groups corresponding to the root systems $A_\ell$, $B_\ell$, $D_\ell$ using embeddings into general linear Lie groups. For symplectic series of classical Lie groups we provide an explanation of impossibility of embedding of the Weyl group into the symplectic group. The explicit formula for adjoint action of the lifts of the Weyl groups on $\mathfrak{g}={\rm

We study the dynamic programming approach to revenue management in the context of attended home delivery. We draw on results from dynamic programming theory for Markov decision problems to show that the underlying Bellman operator has a unique fixed point. We then provide a closed-form expression for the resulting fixed point and show that it admits a natural interpretation. Moreover, we also show that -- under certain technical assumptions -- the value function, which has a discrete domain and a continuous codomain, admits a continuous extension, which is a finite-valued, concave function of its state variables, at every time step. This result opens the road for achieving scalable implementations of the proposed formulation in future work, as it allows making informed choices of basis functions in an approximate dynamic programming context. We illustrate our findings on a simple numerical example and provide suggestions on how our results can be exploited to obtain closer approximations of the exact value function.

Given a complex connected reductive Lie group $G$ with a maximal torus $H\subset G$, Tits defined an extension $W_G^T$ of the corresponding Weyl group $W_G$. The extended group is supplied with an embedding into the normalizer $N_G(H)$, such that $W_G^T$ together with $H$ generate $N_G(H)$. In this paper we propose an interpretation of the Tits classical construction in terms of the maximal split real form $G(\mathbb{R})\subset G$, which leads to the simple topological description of $W^T_G$. We also consider a variation of the Tits construction associated with compact real form $U$ of $G$. In this case we define an extension $W_G^U$ of the Weyl group $W_G$, naturally embedded into the group extension $\widetilde{U}:=U\rtimesΓ$ of the compact real form $U$ by the Galois group $Γ={\rm
Gal}(\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{R})$. Generators of $W^U_G$ are squared to identity as in the Weyl group $W_G$. However, the non-trivial action of $Γ$ by outer automorphisms requires $W^U_G$ to be a non-trivial extension of $W_G$. This gives a specific presentation of the maximal torus normalizer of the group extension $\widetilde{U}$. Finally, we describe explicitly the adjoint action of $W_G^T$ and $W^U_G$ on the Lie algebra of $G$.

An analysis of null geodesics in Schwarzschild de Sitter space is presented with special attention to their global `bending angles', local measurable angles, and the involvement of the cosmological constant. We make use of a general technique which allows for finding observable intersection angles of null trajectories analytically. A general relativistic aberration relationship is established as one of its applications. The question of whether or not the cosmological constant, $Λ$, contributes to orbits of light and to related observable quantities is addressed in detail. We also discuss the ongoing debate on this issue and respond to some recent papers on the topic. The dependence of measurable quantities on the motion of observers is stressed throughout. Exact formulas for measurable intersection angles, as well as gravitational lens equations for observers in the Schwarzschild de Sitter background are provided.

The tools presented are used to analyze some standard setups of gravitational deflection of light and gain a clear understanding of the role that the cosmological constant, $Λ$, plays in gravitational lensing phenomena. Through reviewing some recent papers on the topic with the present results in mind, we attempt to explain the major sources of disagreement in the ongoing debate on the subject, which started with Rindler and Ishak's original paper, regarding the influence of $Λ$ on lensing phenomena. We develop basic constructions of the Baxter operator formalism for the Macdonald polynomials associated with root systems of type A. Precisely we construct a dual pair of mutually commuting Baxter operators such that the Macdonald polynomials are their common eigenfunctions. The dual pair of Baxter operators is closely related to the dual pair of recursive operators for Macdonald polynomials leading to various families of their integral representations. We also construct the Baxter operator formalism for the q-deformed gl(l+1)-Whittaker functions and the Jack polynomials obtained by degenerations of the Macdonald polynomials associated with the type A_l root system. This note provides a generalization of our previous results on the Baxter operator formalism for the Whittaker functions. It was demonstrated previously that Baxter operator formalism for the Whittaker functions has deep connections with representation theory. In particular the Baxter operators should be considered as elements of appropriate spherical Hecke algebras and their eigenvalues are identified with local Archimedean L-factors associated with admissible representations of reductive groups over R. We expect that the Baxter operator formalism for the Macdonald polynomials has an interpretation in representation theory of higher-dimensional arithmetic fields.

Recently we propose a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical gl(n+1)-Whittaker functions and local Archimedean local L-factors using two-dimensional topological field theory framework. The local Archimedean Langlands duality was identified in this setting with the mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theories. In this note we introduce elementary analogs of the Whittaker functions and the Archimedean L-factors given by U(n+1)-equivariant symplectic volumes of appropriate Kahler U(n+1)-manifolds. We demonstrate that the functions thus defined have a dual description as matrix elements of representations of monoids GL(n+1,R), R being the tropical semifield. We also show that the elementary Whittaker functions can be obtained from the non-Archimedean Whittaker functions over Q_p by taking the formal limit p->1. Hence the elementary special functions constructed in this way might be considered as functions over the mysterious field Q_1. The existence of two representations for the elementary Whittaker functions, one as an equivariant volume and the other as a matrix element, should be considered as a manifestation of a hypothetical elementary analog of the local Langlands duality for number fields. We would like to note that the elementary local L-factors coincide with L-factors introduced previously by Kurokawa.

Looking for a quantum field theory model of Archimedean algebraic geometry a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical special functions was introduced. Precisely the special functions such as Whittaker functions and Gamma-function were identified with correlation functions in topological field theories on a two-dimensional disk. Mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theory leads to a dual finite-dimensional integral representations reproducing classical integral representations for the corresponding special functions. The mirror symmetry interchanging infinite- and finite-dimensional integral representations provides an incarnation of the local Archimedean Langlands duality on the level of classical special functions. In this note we provide some directions to higher-dimensional generalizations of our previous results. In the first part we consider topological field theory representations of multiple local L-factors introduced by Kurokawa and expressed through multiple Barnes's Gamma-functions. In the second part we are dealing with generalizations based on consideration of topological Yang-Mills theories on non-compact four-dimensional manifolds. Presumably, in analogy with the mirror duality in two-dimensions, S-dual description should be instrumental for deriving integral representations for a particular class of quantum field theory correlation functions and thus providing a new interesting class of special functions supplied with canonical integral representations.

First, we define a generalization of the standard quantum Toda chain inspired by a construction of quantum cohomology of partial flags spaces GL(\ell+1)/P, P a parabolic subgroup. Common eigenfunctions of the parabolic quantum Toda chains are generalized Whittaker functions given by matrix elements of infinite-dimensional representations of gl(\ell+1). For maximal parabolic subgroups (i.e. for P such that GL(\ell+1)/P=\mathbb{P}^{\ell}) we construct two different representations of the corresponding parabolic Whittaker functions as correlation functions in topological quantum field theories on a two-dimensional disk. In one case the parabolic Whittaker function is given by a correlation function in a type A equivariant topological sigma model with the target space \mathbb{P}^{\ell}. In the other case the same Whittaker function appears as a correlation function in a type B equivariant topological Landau-Ginzburg model related with the type A model by mirror symmetry. This note is a continuation of our project of establishing a relation between two-dimensional topological field theories (and more generally topological string theories) and Archimedean (\infty-adic) geometry. From this perspective the existence of two, mirror dual, topological field theory representations of the parabolic Whittaker functions provide a quantum field theory realization of the local Archimedean Langlands duality for Whittaker functions. The established relation between the Archimedean Langlands duality and mirror symmetry in two-dimensional topological quantum field theories should be considered as a main result of this note.

In the first part of this series of papers we propose a functional integral representation for local Archimedean L-factors given by products of the Gamma-functions. In particular we derive a representation of the Gamma-function as a properly regularized equivariant symplectic volume of an infinite-dimensional space. The corresponding functional integral arises in the description of a type A equivariant topological linear sigma model on a disk. In this paper we provide a functional integral representation of the Archimedean L-factors in terms of a type B topological sigma model on a disk. This representation leads naturally to the classical Euler integral representation of the Gamma-functions. These two integral representations of L-factors in terms of A and B topological sigma models are related by a mirror map. The mirror symmetry in our setting should be considered as a local Archimedean Langlands correspondence between two constructions of local Archimedean L-factors.

We propose a functional integral representation for Archimedean L-factors given by products of Gamma-functions. The corresponding functional integral arises in the description of type A equivariant topological linear sigma model on a disk. The functional integral representation provides in particular an interpretation of the Gamma-function as an equivariant symplectic volume of an infinite-dimensional space of holomorphic maps of the disk to C. This should be considered as a mirror-dual to the classical Euler integral representation of the Gamma-function. We give an analogous functional integral representation of q-deformed Gamma-functions using a three-dimensional equivariant topological linear sigma model on a handlebody. In general, upon proper ultra-violent completion, the topological sigma model considered on a particular class of three-dimensional spaces with a compact Kahler target space provides a quantum field theory description of a K-theory version of Gromov-Witten invariants.

For \ell=1, this provides an interpretation of non-specialized q-deformed gl(2)-Whittaker function in terms of QM_d(\IP^1). In particular the (q-version of) Mellin-Barnes representation of gl(2)-Whittaker function is realized as a semi-infinite period map. The explicit form of the period map manifests an important role of q-version of Gamma-function as a substitute of topological genus in semi-infinite geometry. A relation with Givental-Lee universal solution (J-function) of q-deformed gl(2)-Toda chain is also discussed.

In this paper we introduce Baxter integral Q-operators for finite-dimensional Lie algebras gl(n+1) and so(2n+1). Whittaker functions corresponding to these algebras are eigenfunctions of the Q-operators with the eigenvalues expressed in terms of Gamma-functions. The appearance of the Gamma-functions is one of the manifestations of an interesting connection between Mellin-Barnes and Givental integral representations of Whittaker functions, which are in a sense dual to each other. We define a dual Baxter operator and derive a family of mixed Mellin-Barnes-Givental integral representations. Givental and Mellin-Barnes integral representations are used to provide a short proof of the Friedberg-Bump and Bump conjectures for G=GL(n+1) proved earlier by Stade. We also identify eigenvalues of the Baxter Q-operator acting on Whittaker functions with local Archimedean L-factors. The Baxter Q-operator introduced in this paper is then described as a particular realization of the explicitly defined universal Baxter operator in the spherical Hecke algebra H(G(R),K), K being a maximal compact subgroup of G. Finally we stress an analogy between Q-operators and certain elements of the non-Archimedean Hecke algebra H(G(Q_p),G(Z_p)).

We propose integral representations of the Whittaker functions for the classical Lie algebras sp(2l), so(2l) and so(2l+1). These integral representations generalize the integral representation of gl(l+1)-Whittaker functions first introduced by Givental. One of the salient features of the Givental representation is its recursive structure with respect to the rank of the Lie algebra gl(l+1). The proposed generalization of the Givental representation to the classical Lie algebras retains this property. It was shown elsewhere that the integral recursion operator for gl(l+1)-Whittaker function in the Givental representation coincides with a degeneration of the Baxter Q-operator for $\hat{gl(l+1)}$-Toda chains. We construct Q-operator for affine Lie algebras $\hat{so(2l)}$, $\hat{so(2l+1)}$ and a twisted form of $\hat{gl(2l)}$. We demonstrate that the relation between recursion integral operators of the generalized Givental representation and degenerate Q-operators remains valid for all classical Lie algebras.

All these systems share an acyclicity property. As a consequence, they admit a stable (or Pareto efficient) configuration, where no participant can collaborate with better partners than their current ones. We analyze the representation of the such preference systems and show that any acyclic system can be represented with a symmetric mark matrix. This gives a method to merge acyclic preference systems and retain the acyclicity. We also consider such properties of the corresponding collaboration graph, as clustering coefficient and diameter. In particular, studying the example of preferences based on real latency measurements, we observe that its stable configuration is a small-world graph.

We study networks where exchanges between nodes are driven by the desire to receive the best service available. This is the case for most existing P2P networks. We explore an evolution model derived from stable roommates theory that accounts for heterogeneity between nodes. We show that most P2P applications can be modeled using stable matching theory. This is the case whenever preference lists can be deduced from the exchange policy. In many cases, the preferences lists are characterized by an interesting acyclic property. We show that P2P networks with acyclic preferences possess a unique stable state with good convergence properties.

In this note we verify that the wave functions defined by these integral representations are common eigenfunctions for the complete set of open Toda chain Hamiltonians. We consider the zero eigenvalue wave functions for classical groups C_n and D_n thus completing the generalization of the Givental construction in these cases. The construction is based on a recursive procedure and uses the formalism of Baxter Q-operators. We also verify that the integral Q-operators for C_n, D_n and twisted affine algebra A_{2n-1}^{(2)} proposed previously intertwine complete sets of Hamiltonian operators. Finally we provide integral representations of the eigenfunctions of the quadratic $D_n$ Toda chain Hamiltonians for generic nonzero eigenvalues.

This gives the representation which reproduces the particular results obtained by Gutzwiller for N=2,3 and 4-particle chain. Our method to solve the problem combines the ideas of Gutzwiller and R-matrix approach of Sklyanin with the classical results in the theory of the Whittaker functions. In particular, we calculate Sklyanin's invariant scalar product from the Plancherel formula for the Whittaker functions derived by Semenov-Tian-Shansky thus obtaining the natural interpretation of the Sklyanin measure in terms of the Harish-Chandra function.

The main idea is that the components of the intertwiningoperators are in some sense a generalization of free fermions for $gl_{\infty}$. In this paper we generalize the fermionic approach to the KP hierarchy sudgested in the papers of Kyoto school 1981-1984 (Sato,Jimbo, Miwa...). The main idea is that the components of the intertwiningoperators are in some sense a generalization of free fermions for $gl_{\infty}$. We formulate in terms of intertwining operators the integrable hierarchies related to Kac-Moody Lie algebra symmetries. We write down explicitly the bosonization of these operators for different choices of Heisenberg subalgebras. These different realizations lead to different hierarchies of soliton equations. For example, for $sl_N$-symmetries we get hierarchies obtained as $(n_1,..., n_s)$-reduction from $s$-component KP $(n_1+...+n_s = N)$ introduced by V.Kac and J.Van de Leur.

We investigate different Hopf algebras associated to Yang's solution of quantum Yang-Baxter equation. It is shown that for the precise definition of the algebra one needs the commutation relations for the deformed algebra of formal currents and the specialization of the Riemann problem for the currents. Two different Riemann problems are considered. They lead to the central extended Yangian double associated with ${sl}_2$ and to the degeneration of scaling limit of elliptic affine algebra. Unless the defining relations for the generating functions of the both algebras coincide their properties and the theory of infinite-dimensional representations are quite different. We discuss also the Riemann problem for twisted algebras and for scaled elliptic algebra.

Abstract:
The classical limit of the scaled elliptic algebra $A_{\hbar,η}(sl_2)$ is investigated. The limiting Lie algebra is described in two equivalent ways: as a central extension of the algebra of generalized automorphic $sl_2$ valued functions on a strip and as an extended algebra of decreasing automorphic $sl_2$ valued functions on the real line. Abstract:
The scaling limit $A_{\hbar,η}(\hat{sl_2})$ of the elliptic algebra $A_{q,p}(\hat{sl_2})$ is investigated. The limiting algebra is defined in terms of a continuous family of generators being Fourier harmonics of Gauss coordinates of the $L$-operator. Ding-Frenkel isomorphism between $L$-operator's and current descriptions of the algebra $A_{\hbar,η}(\hat{sl_2})$ is established and is identified…
