In this paper, we investigate minimal scalar leptoquark models that dynamically generate neutrino Majorana masses at the one-loop level and examine their implications for low-energy processes. We show that these models can produce viable neutrino masses, consistent with neutrino oscillation and cosmological data. By using leptoquark couplings fixed by neutrino data, we predict additional contributions to neutrinoless double-beta decays ($0νββ$), which are chirality enhanced and compete with the standard contributions from the Majorana masses. Our analysis demonstrates that these effects are sizable for leptoquark masses as large as $\mathcal{O}(300~\mathrm{TeV})$, potentially increasing or decreasing the $0νββ$ half-life, and creating an ambiguity between the normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. Furthermore, we explore the correlation between $0νββ$ and flavor observables, such as kaon decays and $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei, emphasizing that the latter is complementary to $0νββ$ decays.

In this work, we undertake a perturbative analysis of the topological non-Abelian Chern-Simons-Wong model with the aim to explicitly construct the second-order on-shell action. The resulting action is a topological quantity depending solely on closed curves, so it correspond to an analytical expression of a link invariant. Additionally, we construct an Abelian model that reproduces the same second-order on-shell action as its non-Abelian Chern-Simons-Wong counterpart so it functions as an intermediate model, featuring Abelian fields generated by currents supported on closed paths. By geometrically analyzing each term, we demonstrate that this topological invariant effectively detects the knotting of a four-component link.

We explore the correlations between the measured decay rate and other observables, such as $\mathcal{B}\left(B\rightarrow K^*νν\right)$ and $F_L\left(B\rightarrow K^*νν\right)$, showing that they could disentangle among scenarios involving left-handed neutrinos and those with the right-handed ones. Furthermore, we find that the high-$p_T$ tails of Drell-Yan processes studied at LHC provide important constraints that help us exclude some of the scenarios consistent with the Belle II result.

We explore the neutrino sector of the minimal left-right symmetric model, with the additional charge conjugation discrete symmetry, in the tuned regime where type-I and type-II seesaw mechanisms are equally responsible for the light neutrino masses. We show that unless the charged lepton mixing matrix is the identity and the right handed neutrino mass matrix has no phases, we expect sizable lepton flavor violation and electron dipole moment in this region. We use results from recent neutrino oscillation fits, bounds on neutrinoless double beta decay, $μ\to e γ$, $μ\to 3 e$, $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, the electron electric dipole moment and cosmology to determine the viability of this region. We derive stringent limits on the heavy neutrino masses and mixing angles as well as on the vacuum expectation value $v_L$, which drives the type-II seesaw contribution, using the current data. We discuss the perspectives of probing the remaining parameter space by future experiments.

Temperature dependence of the neutron-nucleus interaction is known as the Doppler broadening of the cross-sections. This is a well-known effect due to the thermal motion of the target nuclei that occurs in the neutron-nucleus interaction. The fast computation of such effects is crucial for any nuclear application. Mechanisms have been developed that allow determining the Doppler effects in the cross-section, most of them based on the numerical resolution of the equation known as Solbrig's kernel, which is a cross-section Doppler broadening formalism derived from a free gas atoms distribution hypothesis. This paper explores a novel non-linear approach based on deep learning techniques. Deep neural networks are trained on synthetic and experimental data, serving as an alternative to the cross-section Doppler Broadening (DB). This paper explores the possibility of using physically informed neural networks, where the network is physically regularized to be the solution of a partial derivative equation, inferred from Solbrig's kernel. The learning process is demonstrated by using the fission, capture, and scattering cross sections for $^{235}U$ in the energy range from thermal to 2250 eV.

Two experiments on the OMEGA Laser System used oblique proton radiography to measure magnetic fields in cylindrical implosions with and without an applied axial magnetic field. Although the goal of both experiments was to measure the magnitude of the compressed axial magnetic field in the core of the implosion, this field was obfuscated by two features in the coronal plasma produced by the compression beams: an azimuthal self-generated magnetic field and small length scale, high-amplitude structures attributed to collisionless effects. In order to understand these features, synthetic radiographs are generated using fields produced by 3-D HYDRA simulations. These synthetic radiographs reproduce the features of the experimental radiographs with the exception of the small-scale structures. A direct inversion algorithm is successfully applied to a synthetic radiograph, but is only partially able to invert the experimental radiographs in part because some protons are blocked by the field coils. The origins of the radiograph features and their dependence on various experimental parameters are explored. The results of this analysis should inform future measurements of compressed axial magnetic fields in cylindrical implosions.

We use intra-day data from the Toronto Stock Exchange to provide empirical evidence of this claim. We work with regularly spaced time intervals, as well as with asynchronously observed data. The tests reveal with high significance the presence of a non-zero Brownian motion component. The second half of the paper is concerned with the analysis of trader behaviors throughout the day. We extend the theoretical analysis of an existing optimal execution model to accommodate the presence of Itô inventory processes, and we compare empirically the optimal behavior of traders in such fitted models, to their actual behavior as inferred from the data.

Medical head CT-scan imaging has been successfully combined with deep learning for medical diagnostics of head diseases and lesions[1]. State of the art classification models and algorithms for this task usually are based on 3d convolution layers for volumetric data on a supervised learning setting (1 input volume, 1 prediction per patient) or 2d convolution layers in a supervised setting (1 input image, 1 prediction per image). However a very common scenario in develo** countries is to have the volume metadata lost due multiple reasons for example formatting conversion in images (for example .dicom to jpg), in this scenario the doctor analyses the collection of images and then emits a single diagnostic for the patient (with possibly an unfixed and variable number of images per patient) , this prevents it from being possible to use state of the art 3d models, but also is not possible to convert it to a supervised problem in a (1 image,1 diagnostic) setting because different angles or positions of the images for a single patient may not contain the disease or lesion. In this study we propose a solution for this scenario by combining 2d convolutional[2] models with sequence models which generate a prediction only after all images have been processed by the model for a given patient \(i\), this creates a multi-image to single-diagnostic setting \(y^i=f(x_1,x_2,..,x_n)\) where \(n\) may be different between patients. The experimental results demonstrate that it is possible to get a multi-image to single diagnostic model which mimics human doctor diagnostic process: evaluate the collection of patient images and then use important information in memory to decide a single diagnostic for the patient.

We use a deep neural network to generate controllers for optimal trading on high frequency data. For the first time, a neural network learns the map** between the preferences of the trader, i.e. risk aversion parameters, and the optimal controls. An important challenge in learning this map** is that in intraday trading, trader's actions influence price dynamics in closed loop via the market impact. The exploration--exploitation tradeoff generated by the efficient execution is addressed by tuning the trader's preferences to ensure long enough trajectories are produced during the learning phase. The issue of scarcity of financial data is solved by transfer learning: the neural network is first trained on trajectories generated thanks to a Monte-Carlo scheme, leading to a good initialization before training on historical trajectories. Moreover, to answer to genuine requests of financial regulators on the explainability of machine learning generated controls, we project the obtained "blackbox controls" on the space usually spanned by the closed-form solution of the stylized optimal trading problem, leading to a transparent structure. For more realistic loss functions that have no closed-form solution, we show that the average distance between the generated controls and their explainable version remains small. This opens the door to the acceptance of ML-generated controls by financial regulators.

In light of recent advancements in the constitutive modelling of bidisperse and polydisperse entangled linear polymers, we present a new multi fluid generalization of the classic two fluid approximation for flows of inhomogeneous polymer blends. As an application of the model, we consider predictions for the linear and nonlinear dynamics of shear induced demixing (SID) instabilities in blends with bidisperse and lognormal molecular weight distributions. We find that even in the absence of any chemical contrast between component chains, an imposed flow can induce a demixing instability provided there is sufficient contrast in the size of the two chains. The lower bound polydispersity for SID coincides with the point where elastic forces (kT per entanglement) scaled by the contrast between chains (e.g. polydispersity index minus one) exceed the entropic forces for mixing (kT per chain). For bi-disperse blends, we show that the non-linear dynamics of SID strongly resemble what has previously been shown for SID in entangled polymer solutions.

Our method retrieves a fixed number of images from a given webpage, and based on them classifies the webpage into a set of established classes with a given probability. The library trains a random forest model build upon the features extracted from images by a pre-trained deep network. The implementation is tested by recognizing weapon class webpages in a curated list of 3859 websites. The results show that the best method of classifying a webpage into the studies classes is to assign the class according to the maximum probability of any image belonging to this (weapon) class being above the threshold, across all the retrieved images. Further research explores the possibilities for the developed methodology to also apply in image classification for healthcare applications.

Even with cutting edge technologies, which range from packaging robots to AI for fault detection, there is still some ambiguity on the aims of some new systems, namely, whether they are automated or autonomous. In this paper we indicate the distinctions between automated and autonomous system as well as review the current literature and identify the core challenges for creating learning mechanisms of autonomous agents. We discuss using different types of extended realities, such as digital twins, to train reinforcement learning agents to learn specific tasks through generalization. Once generalization is achieved, we discuss how these can be used to develop self-learning agents. We then introduce self-play scenarios and how they can be used to teach self-learning agents through a supportive environment which focuses on how the agents can adapt to different real-world environments.

The pH value in bioethanol is a quality control parameter related to its acidity and to the corrosiveness of vehicle engines when it is used as fuel. In order to verify the comparability and reliability of the measurement of pH in bioethanol matrix among some experienced chemical laboratories, reference material (RM) of bioethanol developed by Inmetro - the Brazilian National Metrology Institute - was used in a proficiency testing (PT) scheme. There was a difference of more than one unit in the value of the pH measured due to the type of internal filling electrolytic solutions (potassium chloride, KCl or lithium chloride, LiCl) from the commercial pH combination electrodes used by the participant laboratories. Therefore, bimodal distribution has occurred from the data of this PT scheme. This work aims to present the possibilities that a PT scheme provider can use to overcome the bimodality problem. Data from the PT of pH in bioethanol were treated by two different statistical approaches: kernel density model and the mixture of distributions. Application of these statistical treatments improved the initial diagnoses of PT provider, by solving bimodality problem and contributing for a better performance evaluation in measuring pH of bioethanol.

The interaction between metal atoms and nucleobases has been a topic of high interest due to the wide scientific and technological implications. Combining density functional theory simulations with a literature overview, we achieved an exhaustive study of the ground state electronic properties of DNA/RNA nucleobases interacting with gold and silver atoms at three charge states: neutral, cationic, and anionic. We describe the nature of the stability and electronic properties in each hybrid metallic structure. In addition to the metal interacting with the five isolated nucleobases, we included their respective DNA-WC base pairs and one case with the protonated sugar-phosphate backbone. As a general trend, we discerned that the energetic ordering of isomers follows simple electrostatic rules as expected from previous studies. Also, we found that although the metal localizes almost all of the extra charge in the anionic system, a donation of charge is shared almost equally in the cationic system. Furthermore, the frontier orbitals of the cationic system tend to have more effects from the pairing and inclusion of the backbone than the anionic system. Finally, the electronic gap varies greatly among all of the considered structures and could be further used as a fingerprint when searching DNA-metal hybrid structures.

Non-relativistic charged open strings coupled with Abelian gauge fields are quantized in a geometric representation that generalizes the Loop Representation. The model consists of open-strings interacting through a Kalb-Ramond field in four dimensions. The geometric representation proposed uses lines and surfaces that can be interpreted as an extension of the picture of Faraday's lines of classical electromagnetism. This representation results to be consistent, provided the coupling constant (the "charge" of the string) is quantized. The Schrödinger equation in this representation is also presented.

Google has chosen to include only those journals that have published at least 100 papers and have at least one citation in a period of five years (2007-2011). Journal rankings are sorted by languages (showing the 100 papers with the greatest impact). This tool allows to sort by subject areas and disciplines, but only in the case of journals in English. In this case, it only shows the 20 journals with the highest h index. This option is not available for journals in the other nine languages present in Google (Chinese, Portuguese, German, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese, Dutch and Italian).
Google Scholar Metrics doesnt currently allow to group and sort all journals belonging to a scientific discipline. In the case of Nursing, in the ten listings displayed by GSM we can only locate 34 journals. Therefore, in an attempt to overcome this limitation, we have used the diversity of search procedures allowed by GSM to identify the greatest number of scientific journals of Nursing with h index calculated by this bibliometric tool. Bibliographic searches were conducted between 10th and 30th May 2013.
The result is a ranking of 337 nursing journals sorted by the same h index, and mean as discriminating value. Journals are also grouped by quartiles.

Non-relativistic charged particles and strings coupled with abelian gauge fields are quantized in a geometric representation that generalizes the Loop Representation. We consider three models: the string in self-interaction through a Kalb-Ramond field in four dimensions, the topological interaction of two particles due to a BF term in 2+1 dimensions, and the string-particle interaction mediated by a BF term in 3+1 dimensions. In the first case one finds that a consistent "surface-representation" can be built provided that the coupling constant is quantized. The geometrical setting that arises corresponds to a generalized version of the Faraday's lines picture: quantum states are labeled by the shape of the string, from which emanate "Faraday`s surfaces". In the other models, the topological interaction can also be described by geometrical means. It is shown that the open-path (or open-surface) dependence carried by the wave functional in these models can be eliminated through an unitary transformation, except by a remaining dependence on the boundary of the path (or surface). These feature is closely related to the presence of anomalous statistics in the 2+1 model, and to a generalized "anyonic behavior" of the string in the other case.

We present an extensive experimental study of birefringence and velocity-gradient components for a series of high molecular weight, flexible, entangled polystyrene solutions subjected to transient start-up flows in a co-rotating two-mill to several Weissenberg numbers. The time-dependent changes in the polymer microstructure, as measured by a two-color flow birefringence technique, is shown to be very distinctly coupled with the transient response of the corresponding velocity-field, measured by a dynamic light scattering technique. As expected, polymer deformations induce substantial modifications from the Newtonian flow-field. As a result, measured values of both velocity-gradient components as well as flow-type parameter reduce, thereby drastically decreasing the extensional strength or measured Weissenberg number at the stagnation-point relative to the velocity-field for a Newtonian fluid. Although the impact of the dynamics of both polymer on flow and flow on polymer are very complicated, their individual behaviors and the tight coupling between them are shown to be invariant to the changes in polymer concentration and molecular weight, provided that the number of entanglements per chain, $N_e$ is held fixed. The dependence of the transient results on $N_e$ is very similar to that found in the steady-state experiments on the same polymeric fluids (Sanyal, Yavich, and Leal, manuscript in preparation, 2000). The results presented in this paper are in close qualitative agreement with the recent theoretical predictions (Remmelgas and Leal, J. Non-Newtonian Fluid Mech. {\bf 90}, 187, 2000) using a reptation-based vector model.

We present the experimental results on a series of high molecular weight, entangled polystyrene solutions subjected to a ``mixed'' shear and elongational flow-type generated in a co-rotating two-roll mill. For steady-flows as well as for start-up of flows from rest, we used two different optical methods to study the dynamics of entangled polymeric fluids: two-color flow birefringence (TCFB) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Using the TCFB method, we measured the birefringence, $Δn$, and the orientation angle, $χ$, of the optic axes in the solution and thereby the generalized viscosity function, $η$ (with the use of stress-optical relations). The DLS method was applied to measure the velocity-gradient, \gdot, and the flow-type parameter $λ$ for the polymer solutions under flow conditions identical to the TCFB measurements. For low deformation rates the symmetry of the flow-field was reduced with the use of polymeric fluids compared to that seen with a Newtonian fluid. A molecular constitutive Doi-Edwards-Marrucci-Grizzuti (DEMG) model which includes polymer chain-stretching effects, has been used to numerically simulate the predictions for $Δn$, $χ$, and $η$ under steady flow conditions for the polystyrene fluids with \gdot and $λ$, measured via DLS, as inputs to the model. A detailed comparison of the DEMG model predictions with the experimental results shows that the model works qualitatively as well as quantitatively for the low and intermediate deformation rates, but fails at high rates of deformation by predicting a stronger chain-stretching than observed experimentally. The effect of polymer molecular-weight and number of entanglements per chain are highlighted.

The corresponding 3+1 models are analized in detail. It is shown that one model can be seen as a gauge fixed version of the other, and their space of classical solutions differs in a topological sector represented by the classical solutions of a pure BF model. The topological sector can be gauged out on cohomologically trivial base manifolds but on general settings it may be responsible of the difference in the long distance behaviour of the models. The presence of this topological sector appears explicitly in the partition function of the theories. The generalization of this models to higher dimensions is shown to be straightfoward.
