In this work, non perfect fluid, tilted source solutions in both Einstein-Hilbert General Relativity (GR) and Quadratic Gravity (QG) for the anisotropic Bianchi V model are addressed. Since the excellent CMBR match of Starobinsky's inflation with Planck's team measurements data, QG has acquired a prominent status in the effective sense, for sufficiently strong gravity fields. The main interest is in the numeric time evolution to the past towards the singularity and the behavior of the kinematic variables, vorticity, acceleration, and the expansion of this source substance. In QG we found that for universes with higher and smaller matter densities fall into the Kasner or isotropic singularity attractors to the past, respectively. We also found that the Kasner singularity attractor to the past has always zero vorticity, for both GR and QG theories. While for QG the isotropic singularity attractor may have divergent vorticity. For the set of assumptions and conditions supposed in this work, the isotropic singularity attractor, favors QG as compared to GR. Only in QG we were able to find a geometric singularity with divergences in all of the kinematic variables of the substance, decreasing to finite values to the future, upon time reversing. That is, we obtained an initial kinematic singularity substance, that approaches a perfect fluid source.

We present an alternative nonconservative gravitational theory based on the Herglotz variational principle in a fully covariant form. The present model may be seen as an improvement of the theory proposed in Ref. [Lazo et al, Phys. Rev. D 95, 101501 (2017)], whose resulting theory is meaningful just in particular coordinate systems. In the present work, we report a new theory that is free from such a restriction. It is also obtained using the Herglotz variational principle and by taking advantage of the restricted equivalence between Lagrangian functions in the scope of such action principle. The more restricted class of equivalent Lagrangian functions, in comparison with the Hamilton variational principle, is the key point to find a Lagrangian that furnishes a new alternative gravitational theory that is fully covariant. Once the equations that govern the dynamics of the gravitational field are obtained, a few simple cosmological models are investigated. It is found that the Herglotz gravitational field reduces to a single function that, under certain conditions, plays the role of the cosmological constant in general relativity, turning unnecessary the use of dark energy to explain the accelerated expansion of the universe. The linearized version of the theory is also investigated and it is verified that the theory shows a dissipative character in regard to gravitational waves. From observational data, in both scenarios, the Herglotz vector field is estimated.

We prove the higher order Euler-Lagrange equations, the D'Alembert principle in differential form, the du Bois-Reymond optimality condition and the Noether's theorem. We start the theory of optimal control proving a weak form of the Pontryagin maximum principle and the Noether's theorem for optimal control. This manuscript proposes a model of $n$ distinct populations interaction structured SEIR to describe the spread of COVID-19 pandemic diseases. The proposed model has the flexibility to include geographically separated communities as well as taking into account aging population groups and their interactions. We show that distinct assumptions on the dynamics of the proposed model lead to a plateau-like curve of the infected population, reflecting collected data from large countries like Brazil. Such observations aim to the following conjecture: " Covid-19 diseased diffusion from the capitals to the Brazil interior, as reflected by the proposed model, is responsible for plateau-like reported cases in the country". We present numerical simulations of some scenarios and comparison with reported data from Brazil that corroborate with the aforementioned conclusions.

In the present work, we propose an advection-diffusion equation with Hausdorff deformed derivatives to stud the turbulent diffusion of contaminants in the atmosphere. We compare the performance of our model to fit experimental data against models with classical and Caputo fractional derivatives. We found that the Hausdorff equation gives better results than the tradition advection-diffusion equation when fitting experimental data. Most importantly, we show that our model and the Caputo fractional derivative model display a very similar performance for all experiments. This last result indicates that regardless of the kind of non-classical derivative we use, an advection-diffusion equation with non-classical derivative displaying power-law mean square displacement is more adequate to describe the diffusion of contaminants in the atmosphere than a model with classical derivatives. Furthermore, since Hausdorff derivatives can be related to several deformed operators, and since differential equations with the Hausdorff derivatives are easier to solve than equations with Caputo and other non-local fractional derivatives, our result highlights the potential of deformed derivative models to describe the diffusion of contaminants in the atmosphere.

The Euler-Lagrange equation we obtained generalizes previously results and enables us to construct simple Lagrangians for nonlinear systems. Furthermore, in our main result, we formulate a Noether-type theorem for these problems that provides us with a means to obtain conservative quantities for nonlinear systems. In order to illustrate the potential of the applications of our results, we obtain Lagrangians for some nonlinear chaotic dynamical systems, and we analyze the conservation laws related to time translations and internal symmetries.

In the present work, we formulate a generalization of the Noether Theorem for action-dependent Lagrangian functions. The Noether's theorem is one of the most important theorems for physics. It is well known that all conservation laws, \textrm{e.g.}, conservation of energy and momentum, are directly related to the invariance of the action under a family of transformations. However, the classical Noether theorem cannot be applied to study non-conservative systems because it is not possible to formulate physically meaningful Lagrangian functions for this kind of systems in the classical calculus of variation. On the other hand, recently it was shown that an Action Principle with action-dependent Lagrangian functions provides physically meaningful Lagrangian functions for a huge variety of non-conservative systems (classical and quantum). Consequently, the generalized Noether Theorem we present enable us to investigate conservation laws of non-conservative systems. In order to illustrate the potential of application, we consider three examples of dissipative systems and we analyze the conservation laws related to spacetime transformations and internal symmetries.

In the present work, we propose a new parameterization for the concentration flux using fractional derivatives. The fractional order differential equation in the longitudinal and vertical directions is used to obtain the concentration distribution of contaminants in the Planetary Boundary Layer. We solve this model and we compare the solution against both real experiments and traditional integer order derivative models. We show that our fractional model gives very good results in fitting the experimental data, and perform far better than the traditional Gaussian model. In fact, the fractional model, with constant wind speed and a constant eddy diffusivity, performs even better than some models found in the literature where it is considered that the wind speed and eddy diffusivity are functions of the position. The results obtained show that the structure of the fractional order differential equation is more appropriate to calculate the distribution of dispersed contaminants in a turbulent flow than an integer-order differential equation. Furthermore, a very important result we found it is that there should be a relation between the order $α$ of the fractional derivative with the physical structure of the turbulent flow.

The main feature here is the nonconservation of the energy momentum tensor due to the nontrivial geometrical construction of the theory. We provide the basic set of equations necessary to study both the cosmological background expansion as well as the linear matter perturbation growth. We show that the simplest realization of the Universe as described by only one component is not viable as expected from the existing correspondence between this model and the case of viscous cosmological fluids. However, modeling the energy content of the Universe as composed by two pressureless fluids, i.e., one a typical cold dark matter fluid and the other a pressureless dark energy fluid which is responsible for driving the late-time acceleration expansion, is qualitatively compatible with observational data.

The novel feature where comparing with previous implementations of dissipative effects in gravity is the possible arising of such phenomena from a least action principle, so they are of a purely geometric nature. We derive the dynamical equations describing the behaviour of the cosmic background, considering a single fluid model composed by pressureles matter, whereas the dark energy is conceived as an outcome of the "geometric" dissipative process emerging in the model. Besides, adopting the synchronous gauge we obtain the first-order perturbative equations which shall describe the evolution of the matter perturbations within the linear regime.

In special, from a Lagrangian depending linearly on the Action, we obtain a generalized Einstein's field equations for a non-conservative gravity and analyze some consequences of their solutions to cosmology and gravitational waves. We show that the non-conservative part of the field equations depends on a constant cosmological four-vector. The interplay between quantum fluctuations and disorder is investigated in a spin-glass model, in the presence of a uniform transverse field $Γ$, and a longitudinal random field following a Gaussian distribution with width $Δ$. The model is studied through the replica formalism. This study is motivated by experimental investigations on the LiHo$_x$Y$_{1-x}$F$_4$ compound, where the application of a transverse magnetic field yields rather intriguing effects, particularly related to the behavior of the nonlinear magnetic susceptibility $χ_3$, which have led to a considerable experimental and theoretical debate. We analyzed two situations, namely, $Δ$ and $Γ$ considered as independent, as well as these two quantities related as proposed recently by some authors. In both cases, a spin-glass phase transition is found at a temperature $T_f$; moreover, $T_f$ decreases by increasing $Γ$ towards a quantum critical point at zero temperature. The situation where $Δ$ and $Γ$ are related appears to reproduce better the experimental observations on the LiHo$_x$Y$_{1-x}$F$_4$ compound, with the theoretical results coinciding qualitatively with measurements of the nonlinear susceptibility. In this later case, by increasing $Γ$, $χ_3$ becomes progressively rounded, presenting a maximum at a temperature $T^*$ ($T^*>T_f$). Moreover, we also show that the random field is the main responsible for the smearing of the nonlinear susceptibility, acting significantly inside the paramagnetic phase, leading to two regimes delimited by the temperature $T^*$, one for $T_f<T<T^*$, and another one for $T>T^*$. It is argued that the conventional paramagnetic state corresponds to $T>T^*$, whereas the temperature region $T_f<T<T^*$ may be characterized by a rather unusual dynamics, possibly including Griffiths singularities.

The behavior of the nonlinear susceptibility $χ_3$ and its relation to the spin-glass transition temperature $T_f$, in the presence of random fields, are investigated. To accomplish this task, the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model is studied through the replica formalism, within a one-step replica-symmetry-breaking procedure. In addition, the dependence of the Almeida-Thouless eigenvalue $λ_{\rm AT}$ (replicon) on the random fields is analyzed. Particularly, in absence of random fields, the temperature $T_f$ can be traced by a divergence in the spin-glass susceptibility $χ_{\rm SG}$, which presents a term inversely proportional to the replicon $λ_{\rm AT}$. As a result of a relation between $χ_{\rm SG}$ and $χ_3$, the latter also presents a divergence at $T_f$, which comes as a direct consequence of $λ_{\rm AT}=0$ at $T_f$. However, our results show that, in the presence of random fields, $χ_3$ presents a rounded maximum at a temperature $T^{*}$, which does not coincide with the spin-glass transition temperature $T_f$ (i.e., $T^* > T_f$ for a given applied random field). Thus, the maximum value of $χ_3$ at $T^*$ reflects the effects of the random fields in the paramagnetic phase, instead of the non-trivial ergodicity breaking associated with the spin-glass phase transition. It is also shown that $χ_3$ still maintains a dependence on the replicon $λ_{\rm AT}$, although in a more complicated way, as compared with the case without random fields. These results are discussed in view of recent observations in the LiHo$_x$Y$_{1-x}$F$_4$ compound.

We obtained the exact solution of a probabilistic cellular automaton related to the diagonal-to-diagonal transfer matrix of the six-vertex model on a square lattice. The model describes the flow of ants (or particles), traveling on a one-dimensional lattice whose sites are small craters containing slee** or awake ants (two kinds of particles). We found the Bethe ansatz equations and the spectral gap for the time-evolution operator of the cellular automaton. From the spectral gap we show that in the asymmetric case it belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class, exhibiting a dynamical critical exponent value $z=\frac{3}{2}$. This result is also obtained from a direct Monte Carlo simulation, by evaluating the lattice-size dependence of the decay time to the stationary state.

Over the recent decades, diverse formalisms have emerged that are adopted to approach complex systems. Amongst those, we may quote the q-calculus in Tsallis' version of Non-Extensive Statistics with its undeniable success whenever applied to a wide class of different systems; Kaniadakis' approach, based on the compatibility between relativity and thermodynamics; Fractional Calculus (FC), that deals with the dynamics of anomalous transport and other natural phenomena, and also some local versions of FC that claim to be able to study fractal and multifractal spaces and to describe dynamics in these spaces by means of fractional differential equations.
The question we might ask is whether or not there are common aspects that connect these alternative approaches. In this short communication, we discuss a possible relationship between q-deformed algebras in two different contexts of Statistical Mechanics, namely, the Tsallis' framework and the Kaniadakis' scenario, with local form of fractional-derivative operators defined in fractal media, the so-called Hausdorff derivatives, mapped into a continuous medium with a fractal measure. This connection opens up new perspectives for theories that satisfactorily describe the dynamics for the transport in media with fractal metrics, such as porous or granular media. Possible connections with other alternative definitions of FC are also contempled. Insights on complexity connected to concepts like coarse-grained space-time and physics in general are pointed out.

In the present work we redefine and generalize the action principle for dissipative systems proposed by Riewe by fixing the mathematical inconsistencies present in the original approach. In order to formulate a quadratic Lagrangian for non-conservative systems, the Lagrangian functions proposed depend on mixed integer order and fractional order derivatives. As examples, we formulate a quadratic Lagrangian for a particle under a frictional force proportional to the velocity, and to the classical problem of an accelerated point charge.

The goal of the present work is to investigate the role of trivial disorder and nontrivial disorder in the three-state Hopfield model under a Gaussian random field. In order to control the nontrivial disorder, the Hebb interaction is used. This provides a way to control the system frustration by means of the parameter a=p/N, varying from trivial randomness to a highly frustrated regime, in the thermodynamic limit. We performed the thermodynamic analysis using the one-step replica-symmetry-breaking mean field theory to obtain the order parameters and phase diagrams for several strengths of a, the anisotropy constant, and the random field.

Fractional operators play an important role in modeling nonlocal phenomena and problems involving coarse-grained and fractal spaces. The fractional calculus of variations with functionals depending on derivatives and/or integrals of noninteger order is a rather recent subject that is currently in fast development due to its applications in physics and other sciences. In the last decade, several approaches to fractional variational calculus were proposed by using different notions of fractional derivatives and integrals. Although the literature of the fractional calculus of variations is already vast, much remains to be done in obtaining necessary and sufficient conditions for the optimization of fractional variational functionals, existence and regularity of solutions. Regarding necessary optimality conditions, all works available in the literature concern the derivation of first-order fractional conditions of Euler-Lagrange type. In this work we obtain a Legendre second-order necessary optimality condition for weak extremizers of a variational functional that depends on fractional derivatives.

The present work studies the Ghatak-Sherrington (GS) model with the presence of a longitudinal magnetic random field (RF) $h_{i}$ following a bimodal distribution. The model considers a random bond interaction $J_{i,j}$ which follows a Gaussian distribution with mean $J_0/N$ and variance $J^2/N$. This allows us to introduce the bond disorder strength parameter $J/J_0$ to probe the combined effects of disorder coming from the random bond and the discrete RF over unusual phase transitions known as inverse transitions (ITs). The results within a mean field approximation indicate that these two types of disorder have complete distinct roles for the ITs. They indicate that bond disorder creates the necessary conditions for the presence of inverse freezing or even inverse melting depending on the bond disorder strength, while the RF tends to enforce mechanisms that destroy the ITs.

In this context, the Caputo derivatives are the most popular approach to fractional calculus among physicists, since differential equations involving Caputo derivatives require regular boundary conditions. Motivated by several applications in physics and other sciences, the fractional calculus of variations is currently in fast development. However, all current formulations for the fractional variational calculus fail to give an Euler-Lagrange equation with only Caputo derivatives. In this work, we propose a new approach to the fractional calculus of variations by generalizing the DuBois-Reymond lemma and showing how Euler-Lagrange equations involving only Caputo derivatives can be obtained.

The model we proposed displays the full spectrum of the simple asymmetric exclusion model plus new levels. The first excited state belongs to these new levels and displays unusual scaling exponents. We conjecture that, while the simple asymmetric exclusion process without impurities belongs to the KPZ universality class with dynamical exponent 3/2, our model has a scaling exponent $3/2+N-1$. In order to check the conjecture, we solve numerically the Bethe equation with N=3 and N=4 for the totally asymmetric diffusion and found the dynamical exponents 7/2 and 9/2 in these cases.

The present work studies the Ghatak-Sherrington (GS) model in the presence of a magnetic random field (RF). Previous results obtained from GS model without RF suggest that disorder and frustration are the key ingredients to produce spontaneous inverse freezing (IF). However, in this model, the effects of disorder and frustration always appear combined. In that sense, the introduction of RF allows us to study the IF under the effects of a disorder which is not a source of frustration. The problem is solved within the one step replica symmetry approximation. The results show that the first order transition between the spin glass and the paramagnetic phases, which is related to the IF for a certain range of crystal field $D$, is gradually suppressed when the RF is increased.

Fractional derivatives and integrations of non-integers orders was introduced more than three centuries ago but only recently gained more attention due to its application on nonlocal phenomenas. In this context, several formulations of fractional electromagnetic fields was proposed, but all these theories suffer from the absence of an effective fractional vector calculus, and in general are non-causal or spatially asymmetric. In order to deal with these difficulties, we propose a spatially symmetric and causal gauge invariant fractional electromagnetic field from a Lagrangian formulation. From our fractional Maxwell's fields arose a definition for the fractional gradient, divergent and curl operators.

We introduce and solvev a special family of integrable interacting vertex models that generalizes the well known six-vertex model. In addition to the usual nearest-neighbor interactions among the vertices, there exist extra hard-core interactions among pair of vertices at larger distances. The associated row-to-row transfer matrices are diagonalized by using the recently introduced matrix product {\it ansatz}. Similarly as the relation of the six-vertex model with the XXZ quantum chain, the row-to-row transfer matrices of these new models are also the generating functions of an infinite set of commuting conserved charges. Among these charges we identify the integrable generalization of the XXZ chain that contains hard-core exclusion interactions among the spins. These quantum chains already appeared in the literature. Differently from the coordinate Bethe ansatz, where the eigenvalues and eigenvectors are plane wave combinations, in this ansatz the components of the eigenfunctions are obtained through the algebraic properties of properly defined matrices. In this work, we introduce a formulation of a matrix product ansatz for the six-vertex model with periodic boundary condition, which is the paradigmatic example of integrability in two dimensions. Remarkably, our studies of the six-vertex model are in agreement with the conjecture that all models exactly solved by the Bethe ansatz can also be solved by an appropriated matrix product ansatz.

The exact solution of the asymmetric exclusion problem and several of its generalizations is obtained by a matrix product {\it ansatz}. Due to the similarity of the master equation and the Schrödinger equation at imaginary times the solution of these problems reduces to the diagonalization of a one dimensional quantum Hamiltonian. We present initially the solution of the problem when an arbitrary mixture of molecules, each of then having an arbitrary size ($s=0,1,2, ...$) in units of lattice spacing, diffuses asymmetrically on the lattice. The solution of the more general problem where we have | the diffusion of particles belonging to $N$ distinct class of particles ($c=1, ..., N$), with hierarchical order, and arbitrary sizes is also solved. Our matrix product {\it ansatz} asserts that the amplitudes of an arbitrary eigenfunction of the associated quantum Hamiltonian can be expressed by a product of matrices. The algebraic properties of the matrices defining the {\it ansatz} depend on the particular associated Hamiltonian. The absence of contradictions in the algebraic relations defining the algebra ensures the exact integrability of the model. In the case of particles distributed in $N>2$ classes, the associativity of the above algebra implies the Yang-Baxter relations of the exact integrable model.

Most of the exact solutions of quantum one-dimensional Hamiltonians are obtained thanks to the success of the Bethe ansatz on its several formulations. According to this ansatz the amplitudes of the eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian are given by a sum of permutations of appropriate plane waves. In this paper, alternatively, we present a matrix product ansatz that asserts that those amplitudes are given in terms of a matrix product. The eigenvalue equation for the Hamiltonian define the algebraic properties of the matrices defining the amplitudes. The existence of a consistent algebra imply the exact integrability of the model. The matrix product ansatz we propose allow an unified and simple formulation of several exact integrable Hamiltonians. In order to introduce and illustrate this ansatz we present the exact solutions of several quantum chains with one and two global conservation laws and periodic boundaries such as the XXZ chain, spin-1 Fateev-Zamolodchikov model, Izergin-Korepin model, Sutherland model, t-J model, Hubbard model, etc. Formulation of the matrix product ansatz for quantum chains with open ends is also possible.
