Production of the ${^{55-57}}$Co nuclei on ${^{\rm nat}}$Ni in photonuclear reactions using bremsstrahlung gamma photon irradiation with end-point energy $E_{\rm{γmax}}$ between 35 and 94~MeV has been studied. The experiment was performed at the electron linear accelerator LUE-40 NSC KIPT using the methods of $γ$ activation and off-line $γ$-ray spectroscopy. The obtained experimental flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle$ agree with the data found in literature. The theoretical flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}}$ for the production of ${^{55-57}}$Co and ${^{55-57}}$Ni were estimated using the cross-section values $σ(E)$ from the TALYS1.95 code and bremsstrahlung spectra of gamma photons calculated by GEANT4.9.2. The experimental results for ${^{56,57}}$Co agree with the cumulative $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}}$. However theoretical prediction fails to reproduce the measured cross-sections for the production of ${^{55}}$Co.

We revealed the anomalous temperature behavior of the giant dielectric permittivity and unusual frequency dependences of the pyroelectric response of the fine-grained ceramics prepared by the spark plasma sintering of the ferroelectric BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The temperature dependences of the electro-resistivity indicate the frequency-dependent transition in the electro-transport mechanisms between the lower and higher conductivity states accompanied by the maximum in the temperature dependence of the loss angle tangent. The pyroelectric thermal-wave probing revealed the existence of the spatially inhomogeneous counter-polarized ferroelectric state at the opposite surfaces of the ceramic sample. We described the anomalous temperature behavior of the giant dielectric response and losses using the core-shell model for ceramic grains and modified Maxwell-Wagner approach. We assume that core shells and grain boundaries, which contain high concentration of space charge carriers due to the presence of graphite inclusions in the inter-grain space, can effectively screen weakly conductive ferroelectric grain cores. The superparaelectric-like state with a giant dielectric response can appear in the paraelectric shells and inter-grain space due to the step-like thermal activation of localized polarons in the spatial regions, agreeing with experimentally observed frequency-dependent transition of the electro-transport mechanism. The obtained results can be the key for the description of complex electrophysical properties inherent to the strongly inhomogeneous media with electrically coupled insulating ferroelectric nanoregions and semiconducting superparaelectric-like regions.

The experiment was performed at the electron linear accelerator LUE-40 NSC KIPT with the use of the $γ$ activation and off-line $γ$-ray spectroscopy.
The experimental values of the bremsstrahlung flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle_{\rm{m}}$ for the ${^{181}\rm{Ta}}(γ,p)^{180\rm{m}}\rm{Hf}$ reaction were determined, and at $E_{\rm{γmax}} > 55$ MeV obtained for the first time.
The measured values, also as the literature data, are significantly exceed the theoretical flux-averaged cross-sections $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}}$. The $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle_{\rm{th}}$ values were calculated using the cross-section $σ(E)$ computed with the TALYS1.95 code for six different level density models.
A comparative analysis of the calculated total cross-sections for the reactions ${^{181}\rm{Ta}}(γ,p)^{180}\rm{Hf}$ and ${^{181}\rm{Ta}}(γ,n)^{180}\rm{Ta}$ was performed. It was shown that the photoproton $(γ,p)$ to photoneutron $(γ,n)$ strength ratio is consistent with the estimates based on the isospin selection rules and the value from the $(e,e'p)$ experiment.

We present design and simulation results on the electron source for 2856 MHz technological electron linac. This device is a combination of an RF gun and a DC diode gun. The designed gun consists of a thermionic cathode, which is mounted on the wall of the TM010 cavity that is under negative high voltage potential relatively to an anode. The use of such an electron source makes it possible to exclude the high-voltage gun modulator and resonator for beam prebunching from the accelerator circuit. Duration and position of an electron beam pulse within a RF power supply pulse of the accelerating section can be adjusted with tailoring of RF pulse feeding the cavity. The paper describes the design and electrodynamics characteristics of the gun cavity and a filter, which allows to transfer microwave power to that cavity. The particles dynamics has been studied by simulation. It is shown that the beam parameters at the gun exit satisfy the stated requirements. At an average particle energy of 95 keV, the beam pulse current is 0.44 A, the emittance does not exceed 4.8 mm mrad, and 70% of all electrons are concentrated in the 72 deg phase range.

The measurements were performed with the beam from the NSC KIPT electron linear accelerator LUE-40 using the residual $γ$-activity method. The theoretical $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle$ values were computed using the cross-sections $σ(E)$ from TALYS1.9 code. A comparison between the measured cross-sections $\langle{σ(E_{\rm{γmax}})}\rangle$ and the theoretical values has demostrated their good agreement for the reactions with escape of up to 6 neutrons, and substantial differences for the $(γ,7\rm{n})$ and $(γ,8\rm{n})$ reactions. Isomeric ratios of the average cross-sections $d(E_{\rm{γmax}})$ have been found for the $^{181}\rm{Ta}(γ,3n)^{178g,m}\rm{Ta}$ reaction products. The results have been compared with the literature data and the computations based on TALYS1.9 code.

The experiments were carried out on the beam of the linear electron accelerator LU-40 of the Science and Research Establishment (SRE) "Accelerator" at National Science Center Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology (NSC KIPT) using the method of induced activity. Calculations of the cross sections, average cross sections, and isomeric ratios of the reaction products were performed using the TALYS 1.9 code with default parameters and the GEANT4 code. The tendency of a more successful description of the average cross sections of photoneutron reactions with the formation of final odd-even Nb nuclei than odd-odd Nb nuclei is revealed. The experimental average cross sections for the reactions ($γ$,2n) and ($γ$,4n) are in good agreement with theory, while in the case of reactions ($γ$,n), ($γ$,3n), and ($ γ$,5n), some discrepancies are observed. The results obtained for the reactions ($γ$,n), ($γ$,3n) and ($γ$,4n) are in satisfactory agreement with the known literature data. The average cross sections for the reactions ($γ$,2n) and ($γ$,5n) and the isomeric ratios of the reaction products $^{\text{93}}$Nb($γ$,5n)$^{\text{88m,g}}$Nb were measured for the first time.

We present the results of theoretical and numerical studies on the source of slow positrons for NSC KIPT. The positrons are intended to generate with the electrons of 9, 40 or 90 MeV available at the KIPT electron linacs. The yield of positrons from the conversion target is estimated as well as their spatial--angular characteristics. Optimal parameters of the conversion target for each energy of electrons are estimated. Preliminary design of the positron beam formation system is also presented. Qualitative analytical dependencies of the positron beam parameters at the system exit upon the amplitude and the decrease factor of the magnetic field in the Adiabatic Matching Device (AMD) solenoid have been established. These dependencies have been used for system optimization. Numerical simulations allow to optimize the parameters of AMD for solenoid available in the laboratory. Possible application of the subharmonic RF cavity for reduction of the energy of positrons has also been estimated and validated by the simulations. As it has been shown, this cavity can substantially decrease the positron energy and thus facilitate operation of the moderator.

Defects formed under irradiation in the bulk act as additional pinning centers resulting in the well-known effect of radiation-induced hardening. On the other hand, there is a poorly understood but well-established effect of instant and reversible softening of metals subjected to various types of irradiation. This radiation-induced softening (RIS) effect should be taken into account both in the theory of radiation effects and in the engineering approach for technological applications. In the present paper, the RIS is investigated experimentally in polycrystalline technically pure iron (0.048%C) and in commercial ferritic steel. The effect of the electron beam on plastic deformation of bcc Fe is compared with that in fcc Al (99.5%). Electron energy ranged from 0.5 to 0.8 MeV. Reversible drop of the yield stress and radiation-induced reduction of the elongation to fracture are measured as functions of the electron current and specimen thickness. Rate theory of RIS is proposed, which takes into account the radiation-induced excitation of moving discrete breathers (DBs), recently proven to exist in bcc Fe, and their interaction with dislocations enhancing unpinning from structural defects. The behavior of the DBs is studied using classical MD simulations providing input for the modified rate theory, which eventually demonstrates a reasonable agreement with experimental data. The relevance of results to the in-reactor behavior of pressure vessel steels is discussed.

We propose a modification of the Nightingale renormalization group for lattice spin and gauge models by combining it with the cluster decimation approximation. Essential ingredients of our approach are: 1) exact calculation of the partition and correlation function on a finite lattice strip; 2) preservation of the mass gap or the second moment correlation length, computed in the infinite strip length limit, on each decimation step. The method is applied for studying general two and three dimensional Z(N) models. A perfect agreement with exact results (whenever available) is found. An extension of the method to models with a continuous symmetry is briefly discussed.

Non-abelian lattice spin models with symmetry group SU(N) or U(N) can be formulated in terms of link variables which are subject to the Bianchi constraints. Using this representation we derive exact and local dual formulation for the partition function of such models on a cubic lattice in arbitrary dimension D. Locality means that the dual action is given by a sum over some subset of hypercubes of the dual lattice and the interaction between dual variables ranges over one given hypercube. Dual variables are in general discrete-valued and live on (D-2)-cell of the dual lattice, in close analogy with the XY model. We use our construction to study in details the dual of SU(2) principal chiral model in two dimensions. We give dual expressions also for two-point correlation function in arbitrary representation and for the free energy of defects. Leading terms of the asymptotic expansion of the dual Boltzmann factor are computed and it is proven that at low temperatures it converges to a certain Gaussian distribution uniformly in all fluctuations of dual variables. This result enables us to define the semiclassical limit of the dual formulation and to determine an analog of the vortex--spin-wave representation for the partition function. Such representation is used to extract leading perturbative contribution to the correlation function which shows power-like decay at weak coupling. We also present some analytical evidences that the low-temperature limit of the dual formulation is completely described by ISO(2)-like approximation of SU(2) matrix elements.

Abstract:
The thermodynamic limit of certain exponential corrections to the weak coupling expansion of two-dimensional models is investigated. The expectation values of operators contributing to the first order coefficient of the low-temperature expansion of the free energy are calculated for the order O(e^{-β}). They are proven to diverge logarithmically with the volume for non-abelian models.

We extend our previous analysis to arbitrary two dimensional SU(N) principal chiral model in a link formulation. A general expression for the second order coefficient of fixed distance correlation function is given in terms of Green functions. This coefficient is calculated for distance 1 and is proven to be path independent. We also study the weak coupling expansion of the free energy of one dimensional SU(N) model and explain why it is non-uniform in the volume. Further, we investigate the contribution of holonomy operators to the low-temperature expansion in two dimensions. All our results agree with the conventional expansion. Nevertheless, we give some example which indicates that the expansion in the link formulation can also suffer from ambiguities previously found in the conventional perturbation theory.

We develop a formalism for performing real space renormalization group transformations of the "decimation type" using low temperature perturbation theory. This type of transformations beyond $d=1$ is highly nontrivial even for free theories. We construct such a solution in arbitrary dimensions and develop a weak coupling perturbation theory for it. The method utilizes Schur formula to convert summation over decorated lattice into summation over either original lattice or sublattice. We check the formalism on solvable case of $O(N)$ symmetric Heisenberg chain.
The transformation is particularly useful to study models undergoing phase transition at zero temperature (various $d=1$ and $d=2$ spin models, $d=2$ fermionic models, $d=3,4$ nonabelian gauge models...) for which the weak coupling perturbation theory is a good approximation for sufficiently small lattice spacing.
