We consider the Gelfand problem with general supercritical nonlinearities in the two-dimensional unit ball. In this paper, we prove the non-existence of an unstable solution for any small parameter and the uniformly boundedness of finite Morse index solutions. As a result, we obtain the existence of a radial singular solution and prove that the bifurcation curve has infinitely many turning points. We remark that these properties are well-known in $N$ dimensions with $3\le N \le 9$ and less known in two dimensions. The key idea of the proof is to utilize an interaction between a key gradient estimate of solutions and the supercriticality of the nonlinearities.

We are interested in the global bifurcation diagram of radial solutions for the Gelfand problem with the exponential nonlinearity and a radially symmetric weight $0<a(|x|)\in C^2(\overline{B_1})$ in the unit ball. When the weight is constant, it is known that the bifurcation curve has infinitely many turning points if the dimension $N\le 9$, and it has no turning points if $N\ge 10$.
In this paper, we show that the perturbation of the weight does not affect the bifurcation structure when $N\le 9$. Moreover, we find specific radial singular solutions with specific weights and study the Morse index of the solutions. As a consequence, we prove that the perturbation affects the bifurcation structure in the critical dimension $N=10$. Moreover, we give an optimal classification of the bifurcation diagrams in the critical dimension.

We consider the Gelfand problem in a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ with the Dirichlet boundary condition. We are interested in the boundedness of the extremal solution $u^*$. When the dimension $N\ge10$, it is known that a singular extremal solution can be constructed for the nonlinearity $f(u)=e^u$ and $Ω=B_1$. When $3\le N\le 9$, Cabré, Figalli, Ros-Oton, and Serra (2020) proved the following surprising result: the extremal solution $u^*$ is bounded if the nonlinearity $f$ is positive, nondecreasing, and convex.
In this paper, we succeed in generalizing their result to general $m$-convex nonlinearities. Moreover, we give a unified viewpoint on the results of previous studies by considering $m$-convexity. We provide a closedness result for stable solutions with $m$-convex nonlinearities. As a consequence, we provide a Liouville-type result and by using a blow-up argument, we prove the boundedness of extremal solutions.

We present a method of rendering aerial and volumetric graphics using femtosecond lasers. A high-intensity laser excites a physical matter to emit light at an arbitrary 3D position. Popular applications can then be explored especially since plasma induced by a femtosecond laser is safer than that generated by a nanosecond laser. There are two methods of rendering graphics with a femtosecond laser in air: Producing holograms using spatial light modulation technology, and scanning of a laser beam by a galvano mirror. The holograms and workspace of the system proposed here occupy a volume of up to 1 cm^3; however, this size is scalable depending on the optical devices and their setup. This paper provides details of the principles, system setup, and experimental evaluation, and discussions on scalability, design space, and applications of this system. We tested two laser sources: an adjustable (30-100 fs) laser which projects up to 1,000 pulses per second at energy up to 7 mJ per pulse, and a 269-fs laser which projects up to 200,000 pulses per second at an energy up to 50 uJ per pulse. We confirmed that the spatiotemporal resolution of volumetric displays, implemented with these laser sources, is 4,000 and 200,000 dots per second. Although we focus on laser-induced plasma in air, the discussion presented here is also applicable to other rendering principles such as fluorescence and microbubble in solid/liquid materials.

We have observed anomalous magnetic behavior, i.e., a strong anisotropy at 2 K, disappearance of this anisotropy between approximately 30 K and T_c, and anomalous behavior of the specific heat in the magnetic fields near 20 K. These anomalous phenomena have been analyzed based on the strong exchange interaction between the Fe itinerant electrons and the Dy localized electrons as well as the crystalline electric field, Zeeman energy, and an usual exchange interaction between two Dy atoms. The higher T_c of DyFe2Zn20 compared with that of DyRu2Zn20 is caused by this exchange interaction between the Fe and Dy atoms.

We present In NMR measurements in a novel thermodynamic phase of CeCoIn5 in high magnetic field, where exotic superconductivity coexists with the incommensurate spin-density wave order. We show that the NMR spectra in this phase provide direct evidence for the emergence of the spatially distributed normal quasiparticle regions. The quantitative analysis for the field evolution of the paramagnetic magnetization and newly-emerged low-energy quasiparticle density of states is consistent with the nodal plane formation, which is characterized by an order parameter in the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. The NMR spectra also suggest that the spatially uniform spin-density wave is induced in the FFLO phase.

Relativistic DFT calculations reveal a splitting of degenerate electronic bands due to the asymmetric spin-orbit coupling, favouring a mix of spin-singlet and spin triplet components in the superconducting condensate, in absence of strong correlations among electrons.

In contrast to the case of a square lattice, momentum dependence of the Mott gap excitation of the ladder exhibits little change upon hole-do**, indicating the formation of hole pairs. Theoretical calculation based on a Hubbard model qualitatively explains this feature. In addition, experimental data shows intraband excitation as continuum intensity below the Mott gap and it appears at all the momentum transfers simultaneously. The intensity of the intraband excitation is proportional to the hole concentration of the ladder, which is consistent with optical conductivity measurements.

The 31P-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and muSR (muon spin relaxation) measurements on the filled skutterudite system SmFe4P12 have been carried out. The temperature T dependence of the 31P-NMR spectra indicates the existence of the crystalline electric field effect splitting of the Sm3+$ (J = 5/2) multiplet into a ground state and an excited state of about 70 K. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 shows the typical behavior of the Kondo system, i.e., 1/T1 is nearly T independent above 30 K, and varies in proportion to T (the Korringa behavior, 1/T1 \propto T) between 7.5 K and 30 K. The T dependence deviated from the Korringa behavior below 7 K, which is independent of T in the applied magnetic field of 1 kOe, and suppressed strongly in higher fields. The behavior is explained as 1/T1is determined by ferromagnetic fluctuations of the uncovered Sm3+ magnetic moments by conduction electrons. The muSR measurements in zero field show the appearance of a static internal field associated with the ferromagnetic order below 1.6 K.

The 31P-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) measurements of the filled skutterudite SmRu4P12 have been carried out in several applied magnetic fields. The line width of the 31P-NMR spectrum rapidly increases below the metal-insulator transition temperature TMI, which indicates the appearance of an internal field below the temperature. Though no distinct anomaly was observed below TMI in low fields, a complicated structure was observed between the Neel temperature TN and TMI (TN < TMI) above 70 kOe. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 is almost independent of temperature above TMI, and rapidly decreases below TMI. The 1/T1 in low fields decreases monotonously, whereas the strong suppression of 1/T1 occurs between TN and TMI above 70 kOe. The structure of the spectra and the suppression of 1/T1 become apparent with increasing field.

Here, we conduct 115^In NMR studies of this material in a PERPENDICULAR field, and provide strong evidence for FFLO in this case as well. Although the topology of the phase transition lines in the H-T phase diagram is identical for both configurations, there are several remarkable differences between them. Compared to H//ab, the FFLO region for H perpendicular to the ab-plane shows a sizable decrease, and the critical field separating the FFLO and non-FFLO superconducting states almost ceases to have a temperature dependence. Moreover, directing H perpendicular to the ab-plane results in a notable change in the quasiparticle excitation spectrum within the planar node associated with the FFLO transition.

The unusually large local magnetic field $^{209}H_{loc}$ indicates the dominant $6s^{2}$ character of the lone electron pair of Bi$^{3+}$-ions in both compounds. The mechanism connecting the $s$ character of the lone pairs to the high temperature of charge ordering $T_{CO}$ is still not clarified. The observed difference in $^{209}H_{loc}$ for Bi$_{0.5}$Sr$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ to Bi$_{0.5}$Ca$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ is probably due to a decrease in the canting of the staggered magnetic moments of Mn$^{3+}$-ions from. The modification of the $^{17}$O spectra below $T_{CO}$ demonstrates that the line due to the apical oxygens is a unique local tool to study the development of the Mn spin correlations. In the AF state the analysis of the $^{17}$O spectrum of Pr$_{0.5}$Ca$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ and Bi$_{0.5}$Sr$_{0.5}$MnO$_{3}$ prompts us to try two different theoretical descriptions of the charge-ordered state, a site-centered model for the first manganite and a bond-centered model for the second one.

On the basis of the experimental results it is argued that in zero external field the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation ($1/T_1$) mechanism is driven by a strong collision mechanism whereby $1/T_1$ is a direct measure of the incoherent tunneling probability in the low lying magnetic energy states of the molecular nanomagnet. The approximate value of the effective tunneling rate vs $T$ and $H$ derived directly from $1/T_1$ is shown to be consistent with theoretical estimates based on known parameters of the Hamiltonian.

Measurements of proton NMR and the spin lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 in the octanuclear iron (III) cluster [Fe8(N3C6H15)6O2(OH)12][Br8 9H2O], in short Fe8, have been performed at 1.5 K in a powder sample aligned along the main anisotropy z axis, as a function of a transverse magnetic field (i.e., perpendicular to the main easy axis z). A big enhancement of 1/T1 is observed over a wide range of fields (2.5-5 T), which can be attributed to the tunneling dynamics; in fact, when the tunneling splitting of the pairwise degenerate m=+-10 states of the Fe8 molecule becomes equal to the proton Larmor frequency a very effective spin lattice relaxation channel for the nuclei is opened. The experimental results are explained satisfactorily by considering the distribution of tunneling splitting resulting from the distribution of the angles in the hard xy plane for the aligned powder, and the results of the direct diagonalization of the model Hamiltonian.

An influence of the 16O-18O isotope substitutions on magnetic state of perovskite-type manganite (La0.25Pr0.75)0.7Ca0.3MnO3 is studied by 55Mn NMR. Successive cycling with an isochronal exposure at different magnetic fields up to H=8T is used to study the field-induced transition from antiferromagnetic insulating (AFI) state to the ferromagnetic metal (FMM) one in the 18O-enriched sample. After exposure at H>H_{cr} \sim 5.3T the NMR spectrum of the 18O-sample evidences for magnetic phase separation (PS) resulted in the coexisting AFI and FMM domains. Further increase of exposing field leads to a progressive growth of the FMM phase at the expense of AFI domains.
Its relative fraction can be controlled by external magnetic field and the resulting magnetic structure in the PS region is discussed. Anomalous T-dependence of the 55Mn nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate is revealed in the FMM state of both 16O-and 18O-enriched samples. The manifestation of the Pr magnetic ordering at T \sim 40K is considered.

The NMR relaxation rate T_1^{-1} at ^{205}Tl site, at which antiferromagnetic (AF) fluctuation can be monitored sensitively, provides a direct evidence that the AF spin correlation is significantly enhanced in the vortex core region. Spatially-resolved NMR is used to probe the magnetism in and around the vortex core of nearly optimally-doped Tl_2Ba_2CuO_{6+δ} (T_c=85K). The NMR relaxation rate T_1^{-1} at ^{205}Tl site, at which antiferromagnetic (AF) fluctuation can be monitored sensitively, provides a direct evidence that the AF spin correlation is significantly enhanced in the vortex core region. In the core region Cu spins show a local AF ordering with moment ~ 0.1μ_B parallel to the layers at T_N=20K. Above T_N the core region is in the paramagnetic state which is a reminiscence of the state above the pseudogap temperature (T*=120K), indicating that the pseudogap disappears within the core.

Abstract:
We report a site-selective ^{17}O spin-lattice relaxation rate T_1^{-1} in the vortex state of underdoped YBa_2Cu_4O_8. We found that T_1^{-1} at the planar sites exhibits an unusual nonmonotonic NMR frequency dependence. In the region well outside the vortex core, T_1^{-1} cannot be simply explained by the density of states of the Doppler-shifted quasiparticles in the d-wave superconductor. Bas…

Based on T_1^{-1} in the vortex core region, we establish strong evidence that the local density of states within the vortex core is strongly reduced.

Abstract:
We report a first experimental evidence that a vortex in the high temperature superconductors (HTSC) traps a finite electric charge from the high resolution measurements of the nuclear quadrupole frequencies. In slightly overdoped YBa_2Cu_3O_7 the vortex is negatively charged by trap** electrons, while in underdoped YBa_2Cu_4O_8 it is positively charged by expelling electrons. The sign of the…

The sign of the trapped charge is opposite to the sign predicted by the conventional BCS theory. Moreover, in both materials, the deviation of the magnitude of the charge from the theory is also significant. These unexpected features can be attributed to the novel electronic structure of the vortex in HTSC.
