We study Einstein's gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics with two parameters in Anti-de Sitter spacetime. Magnetically charged black holes in an extended phase space is investigated. We obtain the mass and metric functions, their asymptotic and corrections to the Reissner--Nordström metric function when the cosmological constant vanishes. The first law of black hole thermodynamics in extended phase space is formulated and the magnetic potential and the thermodynamic conjugate to the coupling are obtained. We proved the generalized Smarr relation. The heat capacity and the Gibbs free energy are computed and phase transitions are studied. It was shown that the electric field of charged objects at the origin and electrostatic self-energy are finite within the nonlinear electrodynamics proposed.

WE analyse the universe inflation when the source of gravity is electromagnetic fields obeying nonlinear electrodynamics with two parameters and without singularities. The cosmology of the universe with stochastic magnetic fields is considered. The condition for the universe inflation is obtained. It is demonstrated that singularities of the energy density and pressure are absent as the scale factor approaches to zero. When the scale factor goes to infinity one has equation of state for ultra-relativistic case. The curvature invariants do not possess singularities. The evolution of universe is described showing that at large time the scale factor corresponds to the radiation era. The duration of universe inflation is analysed. We study the classical stability and causality by computing the speed of the sound. Cosmological parameters such as the spectral index $n_s$, the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ and the running of the spectral index $α_s$ are evaluated.

We investigate Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) 4D massive gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) in an Anti-de-Sitter (AdS) background and find an exact magnetically charged black hole solution. The metric function was analyzed for different values of massive gravity parameters. We verified the first law of black hole thermodynamics and the generalized Smarr formula, treating the cosmological constant as thermodynamic pressure. Vacuum polarization is defined as the conjugate to the NED parameter. To analyze the local stability of the black hole, we compute specific heat. We investigated the Van der Waals-like/reentrant phase transition of the black holes and estimated the critical points. We observed small/large black hole (SBH/LBH) and small/intermediate/large black hole (SBH/IBH/LBH) phase transitions. The Joule-Thomson coefficient, inversion, and isenthalpic curves are discussed. Finally, the minimum inversion temperature and the corresponding event horizon radius are obtained using numerical techniques.

We investigate the existence and propagation properties of all possible types of envelope soliton pulses in a birefringent optical fiber wherein the light propagation is governed by two coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with coherent and incoherent nonlinear couplings. Especially, we study the existence of optical solitons under the influence of group-velocity dispersion and third-order nonlinearity, which have physical relevance in the context of elliptical core optical fiber. The results show that the waveguiding medium supports the existence of a wide variety of propagating envelope solitons, including dipole-bright, bright-dipole, bright-dark, dark-bright, W-shaped-dipole and dipole-W-shaped pulses which exhibit different characteristics. Interestingly, we find that the obtained soliton pairs are allowable in both the normal and anomalous dispersion regimes. A wide class of exact analytic periodic (elliptic) wave solutions are identified. This illustrates the potentially rich set of localized pulses and nonlinear periodic waves in birefringent optical fiber media.

In this work we consider electronic and magnetic properties of MXene Fe$_2$C within the DFT+DMFT approach. We establish the existence of local magnetic moments $μ=3.2μ_B$ in this compound, characterized by sufficiently long lifetime of $τ\sim 350$ fs. We also calculate exchange interaction parameters accounting for electronic correlations using the recently developed approach for paramagnetic phase. We obtain the strongest exchange interaction $11$ meV between next nearest neighboring Fe atoms above (and below) the carbon plane, and the subleading interaction $6$ meV between the next to next nearest neighboring atoms across the carbon plane. The resulting dependence of the Berzinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) and Curie temperatures on magnetic anisotropy is obtained. The BKT temperature for the pristine Fe$_2$C is $T_{\rm BKT}\simeq 290$ K, which makes this compound a good candidate for the two-dimensional ferromagnet with XY anisotropy.

The emergence of van der Waals (vdW) materials resulted in the discovery of their giant optical, mechanical, and electronic anisotropic properties, immediately enabling countless novel phenomena and applications. Such success inspired an intensive search for the highest possible anisotropic properties among vdW materials. Furthermore, the identification of the most promising among the huge family of vdW materials is a challenging quest requiring innovative approaches. Here, we suggest an easy-to-use method for such a survey based on the crystallographic geometrical perspective of vdW materials followed by their optical characterization. Using our approach, we found As2S3 as a highly anisotropic vdW material. It demonstrates rare giant in-plane optical anisotropy, high refractive index and transparency in the visible range, overcoming the century-long record set by rutile. Given these benefits, As2S3 opens a pathway towards next-generation nanophotonics as demonstrated by an ultrathin true zero-order quarter-waveplate that combines classical and the Fabry-Perot optical phase accumulations. Hence, our approach provides an effective and easy-to-use method to find vdW materials with the utmost anisotropic properties.

Here we report the investigation of the La-Mg-H ternary system using the evolutionary algorithm USPEX at pressures on the range 150-300 GPa. Several ternary superconducting hydrides were found, including thermodynamically stable $P6/mmm$-LaMg$_{3}$H$_{28}$ with $T_{\mathrm{C}}=164$ K at 200 GPa, $P/2m$-LaMgH$_8$, $C2/m$-La$_2$MgH$_{12}$ and $P2/m$-La$_3$MgH$_{16}$. In addition, novel binary hydrides were predicted to be stable at various pressures, such as $Cm$-Mg$_6$H$_{11}$, $P1$-MgH$_{26}$, $Fmm2$-MgH$_{30}$, $P1$-MgH$_{38}$ and $R\overline{3}m$-LaH$_{13}$. We also report several novel low-enthalpy metastable phases, both ternary and binary ones. Finally, we demonstrate important methods of exploring very large chemical spaces and show how they can improve crystal structure prediction.

Wave-speed management of soliton pulses in a nonlinear metamaterial exhibiting a rich variety of physical effects that are important in a wide range of practical applications, is studied both theoretically and numerically. Ultrashort electromagnetic pulse transmission in such inhomogeneous system is described by a generalized nonlinear Schreodinger equation with space-modulated higher-order dispersive and nonlinear effects of different nature. We present the discovery of three types of periodic wave solutions that are composed by the product of Jacobi elliptic functions in the presence of all physical processes. Envelope solitons of the dipole, bright and W-shaped types are also identified, thus illustrating the potentially rich set of localized pulses in the system. We develop an effective similarity transformation method to investigate the soliton dynamics in the presence of the inhomogeneities of media. The application of developed method to control the wave speed of the presented solitons is discussed. The results show that the wave speed of dipole, bright and W-shaped solitons can be effectively controlled through spatial modulation of the metamaterial parameters. In particular, the soliton pulses can be decelerated and accelerated by suitable variations of the distributed dispersion parameters.

We have derived the extended Korteweg-de Vries equation describing the long gravity waves without limitation to surface deviation. The only restriction to the surface deviation is connected with the stability condition for appropriate solutions. The derivation of extended KdV equation is based on the Euler equations for inviscid irrotational and incompressible fluid. It is shown that the extended KdV equation reduces to standard KdV equation for small amplitude of the waves. We have also generalized the extended KdV equation for describing the decaying effect of the waves. Quasi-periodic and solitary wave solutions for extended KdV equation with decaying effect are found as well. We also demonstrate that the fundamental approach based on the inverse scattering method is applicable for solving the extended KdV equation in the case when decaying effect is negligibly small. Such case always occur for restricted propagation distances of the waves.

Currently, this technology is dominated by silicon, but van der Waals (vdW) materials with high refractive index can offer a very advanced alternative. Still, up to now it was not clear if the optical anisotropy perpendicular to the layers might be a hindering factor for the development of vdW nanophotonics. Here, we studied WS2-based waveguides in terms of their optical properties and, particularly, in terms of possible crosstalk distance. Surprisingly, we discovered that the low refractive index in the direction perpendicular to the atomic layers improves the characteristics of such devices, mainly due to expanding the range of parameters at which single-mode propagation can be achieved. Thus, using anisotropic materials offers new opportunities and novel control knobs when designing the nanophotonic devices.

A previously unknown tetrahydride SnH$_4$ with a cubic structure (${fcc}$) exhibiting superconducting properties below ${T}$$_C$ = 72 K was obtained; the formation of a high molecular ${C2/m}$-SnH$_{14}$ superhydride and several lower hydrides, ${fcc}$ SnH$_2$ and ${C2}$-Sn$_{12}$H$_{18}$, was also detected. The temperature dependence of critical current density ${J}$$_C$(T) in SnH$_4$ yields the superconducting gap 2$Δ$(0) = 23 meV at 180 GPa. SnH$_4$ has unusual behavior in strong magnetic fields: ${B,T}$-linear dependences of magnetoresistance and the upper critical magnetic field ${B}$$_{C2}$(T) $\propto$ (${T}$$_C$ - ${T}$). The latter contradicts the Wertheimer-Helfand-Hohenberg model developed for conventional superconductors. Along with this, the temperature dependence of electrical resistance of ${fcc}$ SnH$_4$ in non-superconducting state exhibits a deviation from what is expected for phonon-mediated scattering described by the Bloch-Grüneisen model, and is beyond the framework of the Fermi liquid theory. Such anomalies occur for many superhydrides, making them much closer to cuprates than previously believed.

A global trend to miniaturization and multiwavelength performance of nanophotonic devices drives research on novel phenomena, such as bound states in the continuum and Mietronics, as well as the survey for high-refractive index and strongly anisotropic materials and metasurfaces. Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is one of promising materials for the future nanophotonics owing to its inherent anisotropy and prospects of high-quality monocrystals growth with atomically flat surface. Here, we present highly accurate optical constants of hBN in the broad wavelength range of 250-1700 nm combining the imaging ellipsometry measurements scanning near-field optical microscopy and first-principle quantum mechanical computations. hBN's high refractive index, up to 2.75 in ultraviolet (UV) and visible range, broadband birefringence of 0.7, and negligible optical losses make it an outstanding material for UV and visible range photonics. Based on our measurement results, we propose and design novel optical elements: handedness-preserving mirrors and subwavelength waveguides with dimensions of 40 nm operating in the visible and UV range, respectively. Remarkably, our results offer unique opportunity to bridge the size-gap between photonics and electronics.

We present the discovery of two types of multiple-hump soliton modes in a highly dispersive optical fiber with a Kerr nonlinearity. We show that multi-hump optical solitons of quartic or dipole types are possible in the fiber system in the presence of higher-order dispersion. Such nonlinear wave packets are very well described by an extended nonlinear Schrodinger equation involving both cubic and quartic dispersion terms. It is found that the third- and fourth-order dispersion effects in the fiber material may lead to the coupling of quartic or dipole solitons into double-, triple-, and multi-humped solitons. We provide the initial conditions for the formation of coupled multi-hump quartic and dipole solitons in the fiber. Numerical results illustrate that propagating multi-quartic and multi-dipole solitons in highly dispersive optical fibers councide with a high accuracy to our analytical multi-soliton solutions. It is important for applications that described multiple-hump soliton modes are stable to small noise perturbation that was confirmed by numerical simulations. These numerical results confirm that the newly found multi-soliton pulses can be potentially utilized for transmission in optical fibers medium with higher-order dispersions.

The thermodynamics of RNED-AdS black holes and phase transitions are studied. A new thermodynamic quantities conjugated to the nonlinear parameter of RNED and a magnetic charge are defined. It is demonstrated the consistency of the first law of black hole thermodynamics and the Smarr formula.

During the last years, giant optical anisotropy demonstrated its paramount importance for light manipulation which resulted in numerous applications ranging from subdiffraction light guiding to switchable nanolasers. In spite of recent advances in the field, achieving continuous tunability of optical anisotropy remains an outstanding challenge. Here, we present a solution to the problem through chemical alteration of the ratio of halogen atoms (X = Br or Cl) in single-crystal CsPbX$_3$ halide perovskites. It turns out that the anisotropy originates from an excitonic resonance in the perovskite, which spectral position and strength are determined by the halogens composition. As a result, we manage to continually modify the optical anisotropy by 0.14. We also discover that the halide perovskite can demonstrate optical anisotropy up to 0.6 in the visible range -- the largest value among non-van der Waals materials. Moreover, our results reveal that this anisotropy could be in-plane and out-of-plane, depending on perovskite shape -- rectangular and square. Hence, it can serve as an additional degree of freedom for anisotropy manipulation. As a practical demonstration, we created perovskite anisotropic nanowaveguides and show a significant impact of anisotropy on high-order guiding modes. These findings pave the way for halide perovskites as a next-generation platform for tunable anisotropic photonics.

We study the propagation of femtosecond light pulses inside an optical fiber medium exhibiting higher-order dispersion and cubic-quintic nonlinearities. Pulse evolution in such system is governed by a higher-order nonlinear Schr% ödinger equation incorporating second-, third-, and fourth-order dispersions as well as cubic and quintic nonlinearities. Novel classes of periodic wave solutions are identified for the first time by means of an appropriate equation method. Results presented indicated the potentially rich set of periodic waves in the system under the combined influence of higher-order dispersive effects and cubic-quintic nonlinearity. Solitary waves of both bright and dark types are also obtained as a limiting case for appropriate periodic solutions. It is found that the velocity of these structures is uniquely dependent on all orders of dispersion. Conditions on the optical fiber parameters for the existence of these stable nonlinear wave-forms are presented as well.

Polyhydrides are a novel class of superconducting materials with extremely high critical parameters, which is very promising for applications. On the other hand, complete experimental study of the magnetic phase diagram for the best so far known superconductor, lanthanum decahydride LaH$_{10}$, encounters a serious complication because of the large upper critical magnetic field $\textit{H}$$_{C2}$(0), exceeding 120-160 T. Partial replacement of La atoms by magnetic Nd atoms results in a decrease of the upper critical field, which makes it attainable for existing pulse magnets. We found that addition of neodymium leads to significant suppression of superconductivity in LaH$_{10}$: each atomic % of Nd causes decrease in $\textit{T}$$_{C}$ by 10-11 K. Using strong pulsed magnetic fields up to 68 T, we constructed the magnetic phase diagram of the ternary (La,Nd)H$_{10}$ superhydride, which appears to be surprisingly linear with $\textit{H}$$_{C2}$ $\propto$ |$\textit{T}$ - $\textit{T}$$_C$|. The pronounced suppression of superconductivity in LaH$_{10}$ by magnetic Nd atoms and the robustness of $\textit{T}$$_C$ with respect to nonmagnetic impurities (e.g., Y, Al, C) under Anderson's theorem indicate the isotropic ($\textit{s}$-wave) character of conventional electron-phonon pairing in the synthesized superhydrides.

Recently, several research groups announced reaching the point of metallization of hydrogen above 400 GPa. Following the mainstream of extensive investigations of compressed polyhydrides, in this work we demonstrate that small (4 atom %) do** of molecular hydrogen by strontium leads to a dramatic reduction in the metallization pressure to about 200 GPa. Studying the high-pressure chemistry of the Sr-H system at 56-180 GPa, we observed the formation of several previously unknown compounds: C2/m-Sr$_3$H$_{13}$, pseudocubic SrH$_6$, SrH$_9$ with cubic F-43m Sr sublattice, and pseudotetragonal P1-SrH$_{22}$, the metal hydride with the highest hydrogen content discovered so far. Unlike Ca and Y, strontium forms molecular semiconducting polyhydrides, whereas calcium and yttrium polyhydrides are high-Tc superconductors with an atomic H sublattice. The latter phase, SrH$_{22}$ or Sr$_{0.04}$H$_{0.96}$, may be considered as a convenient model of the consistent bandgap closure and metallization of hydrogen. Using the impedance measurements in diamond anvil cells at 300-440 K, we estimated the direct bandgap of the Pm-3n-like compound P1-SrH$_6$ to be 0.44-0.51 eV at 150 GPa, and its metallization pressure to be 220 GPa. Together with the machine learning interatomic potentials, the impedance spectroscopy allowed us to estimate the diffusion coefficients of hydrogen D$_H$ = 1.0-2.8 E-10 m$^2$/s in SrH$_6$ and 1.2-2.1 E-9 m$^2$/s in P1-SrH$_{22}$ at 500-600 K.

We study the propagation of one-dimentional optical beams in a weakly nonlocal medium exhibiting cubic-quintic nonlinearity. A nonlinear equation governing the evolution of the beam intensity in the nonlocal medium is derived thereby which allows us to examine whether the traveling-waves exist in such optical material. An efficient transformation is applied to obtain explicit solutions of the envelope model equation in the presence of all material parameters. We find that a variety of periodic waves accompanied with a nonlinear chirp do exist in the system in the presence of the weak nonlocality. Chirped localized intensity dips on a continuous-wave background as well as solitary waves of the bright and dark types are obtained in a long wave limit. A class of propagating chirped self-similar solitary beams is also identified in the material with the consideration of the inhomogeneities of media. Atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) present a promising platform for numerous photonic applications due to excitonic spectral features, possibility to tune their constants by external gating, do**, or light, and mechanical stability. Utilization of such materials for sensing or optical modulation purposes would require a clever optical design, as by itself the 2D materials can offer only a small optical phase delay - consequence of the atomic thickness. To address this issue, we combine films of 2D semiconductors which exhibit excitonic lines with the Fabry-Perot resonators of the standard commercial SiO$_2$/Si substrate, in order to realize topological phase singularities in reflection. Around these singularities, reflection spectra demonstrate rapid phase changes while the structure behaves as a perfect absorber. Furthermore, we demonstrate that such topological phase singularities are ubiquitous for the entire class of atomically thin TMDCs and other high-refractive-index materials, making it a powerful tool for phase engineering in flat optics. As a practical demonstration, we employ PdSe$_2$ topological phase singularities for a refractive index sensor and demonstrate its superior phase sensitivity compared to typical surface plasmon resonance sensors.

Novel periodic waves of different forms are shown to exist in the system in the presence of higher-order effects. It is found that such periodic structures exhibit an interesting chir** property which depends on the light field intensity. The nonlinearity in pulse chirp is found to be caused by the presence of self-steepening effect in the negative index medium. The solutions also comprise dark, bright, and kink solitary waves. Stability of the solitary wave solutions are proved analytically using the theory of nonlinear dispersive waves. A major shortcoming is that, to avoid expensive calculations of the entropy, crystal structure prediction was done at zero Kelvin and searched for the global minimum of the enthalpy, rather than free energy. As a consequence, high-temperature phases (especially those which are not quenchable to zero temperature) could be missed. Here we develop an accurate and affordable solution, enabling crystal structure prediction at finite temperatures. Structure relaxation and fully anharmonic free energy calculations are done by molecular dynamics with a force field (which can be anything from a parametric force field for simpler cases to a trained on-the-fly machine learning interatomic potential), the errors of which are corrected using thermodynamic perturbation theory to yield accurate ab initio results. We test the accuracy of this method on metals (probing the P-T phase diagram of Al and Fe), a refractory intermetallide (WB), and a significantly ionic ceramic compound (Earth-forming silicate MgSiO3 at pressures and temperatures of the Earth's lower mantle). We find that the hcp-phase of aluminum has a wider stability field than previously thought, and the temperature-induced transition $α$-$β$ in WB occurs at 2789 K. It is also found that iron has hcp structure at conditions of the Earth's inner core, and the much debated (and important for constraining Earth's thermal structure) Clapeyron slope of the post-perovskite phase transition in MgSiO3 is 5.88 MPa/K.

Abstract:
We conducted a joint experimental-theoretical investigation of the high-pressure chemistry of europium polyhydrides at pressures of 86-130 GPa. We discovered several novel magnetic Eu superhydrides stabilized by anharmonic effects: cubic $EuH_{9}$, hexagonal $EuH_{9}$, and an unexpected cubic (Pm-3n) clathrate phase, $Eu_{8}H_{46}$. Monte Carlo simulations indicate that cubic $EuH_{9}$ has antifer…

Monte Carlo simulations indicate that cubic $EuH_{9}$ has antiferromagnetic ordering with T(Neel) up to 24 K, whereas hexagonal $EuH_{9}$ and Pm-3n-$Eu_{8}H_{46}$ possess ferromagnetic ordering with T(Curie) = 137 and 336 K, respectively. The electron-phonon interaction is weak in all studied europium hydrides, and their magnetic ordering excludes s-wave superconductivity, except, perhaps, for distorted pseudohexagonal $EuH_{9}$. The equations of state predicted within the DFT+U approach (the Hubbard corrections were found within linear response theory) are in close agreement with the experimental data. This work shows the great influence of the atomic radius on symmetry-breaking distortions of the crystal structures of superhydrides and on their thermodynamic stability.

A singularity of the electric field at the center of charges is absent within our model and there are corrections to the Coulomb law as $r\rightarrow\infty$. The universe inflation takes place in the background of stochastic magnetic fields. The second stage of the universe evolution is the radiation era so that the graceful exit exists. We estimated the spectral index, the tensor-to-scalar ratio, and the running of the spectral index that are in a rough accord with the PLANCK and WMAP data.

Within this model the singularities of the electric field at the center of charges, the Ricci scalar, the Ricci tensor squared and the Kretschmann scalar are absent. We consider the universe which is filled by stochastic magnetic fields. It is demonstrated that the inflation lasts approximately $2$ s with the reasonable e-folding number $N\approx 63$. The Inflation starts from de Sitter spacetime and after the universe inflation end it decelerates approaching the radiation era.

Abstract:
We consider rational nonlinear electrodynamics with the Lagrangian ${\cal L} = -{\cal F}/(1+2β{\cal F})$ (${\cal F}=(1/4)F_{μν}F^{μν}$ is the Lorentz-invariant), proposed in [63], coupled to General Relativity. The effective geometry induced by nonlinear electrodynamics corrections are found. We determine shadow's size of regular non-rotating magnetic black holes and compare them with the shadow size of the super-massive M87* black hole imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration. Assuming that the black hole mass has a pure electromagnetic nature, we obtain the black hole magnetic charge. The size of the shadow obtained is very close to the shadow size of non-regular neutral Schwarzschild black holes. As a result, we can interpret the super-massive M87* black hole as a regular (without singularities) magnetized black hole.

Large optical anisotropy observed in a broad spectral range is of paramount importance for efficient light manipulation in countless devices. Although a giant anisotropy was recently observed in the mid-infrared wavelength range, for visible and near-infrared spectral intervals, the problem remains acute with the highest reported birefringence values of 0.8 in BaTiS3 and h-BN crystals. This inspired an intensive search for giant optical anisotropy among natural and artificial materials. Here, we demonstrate that layered transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) provide an answer to this quest owing to their fundamental differences between intralayer strong covalent bonding and weak interlayer van der Walls interaction. To do this, we carried out a correlative far- and near-field characterization validated by first-principle calculations that reveals an unprecedented birefringence of 1.5 in the infrared and 3 in the visible light for MoS2. Our findings demonstrate that this outstanding anisotropy allows for tackling the diffraction limit enabling an avenue for on-chip next-generation photonics.

A new model of nonlinear electrodynamics with dimensional parameters $β$ and $γ$ is proposed. The principles of causality and unitarity are studied. We show that a singularity of the electric field at the origin of charges is absent and the maximum of the electric field in the center is $E(0)=1/\sqrtβ$. The dual symmetry is broken in our model. Corrections to the Coulomb law as $r\rightarrow\infty$ are in the order of ${\cal O}(r^{-4})$. The source of the gravitation field and inflation of the universe is electromagnetic fields. It is supposed that the universe is filled by stochastic magnetic fields. We demonstrate that after the universe inflation the universe decelerates approaching the Minkowski spacetime. The singularities of the Ricci scalar, the Ricci tensor squared and the Kretschmann scalar are absent. We calculate the speed of sound. The spectral index, the tensor-to-scalar ratio, and the running of the spectral index, which approximately agree with the PLANK and WMAP data, are evaluated.
