We develop a comprehensive implementation of the minimal Left-Right symmetric model within a FeynRules model file. We derive the complete set of mass spectra and mixings for the charged and neutral gauge bosons, would-be-Goldstones and gauge fixing, together with the ghost Lagrangian. In the scalar sector, we analytically re-derive all the massive states with mixings and devise a physical input scheme, which expresses the model couplings in terms of masses and mixing angles of all states. Fermion couplings are determined in closed form, including the Dirac mixing in the neutrino sector, evaluated explicitly with the Cayley-Hamilton method. We calculate the one loop next-to-leading QCD corrections and provide a complete UFO file for NLO studies, demonstrated on relevant benchmarks. We provide various restricted variants of the model file with different gauges, massless states, neutrino hierarchies and parity violating $g_L \neq g_R$ gauge couplings.

Extensions of the Standard Model featuring light vector bosons have been explored with the goal of resolving certain tensions between theory and experiment, among them the discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $Δa_μ$. In particular, this is the case of a minimal construction including a leptophilic, strictly flavour violating, vector boson $Z^\prime$. These new vector bosons are also well-motivated dark matter portals, with non-trivial couplings to stable, weakly interacting states which can account for the correct dark matter density. Here we study the prospects of a Standard Model extension (via a vector boson and a fermionic dark matter candidate) concerning signatures at the LHC, and at future lepton and hadron colliders. We discuss the cross-sections of several processes leading to same- and opposite-sign muon-tau lepton pairs in the final state, as well as final states with missing energy (in the form of neutrinos and/or dark matter). Our findings suggest that a future muon collider offers the best prospects to probe this model (together with searches for dilepton pairs and missing energy signatures at the FCC-ee running at the $Z$-pole); moreover, the complementarity of the different future high-energy colliders is also paramount to probing distinct $Z^\prime$ mass regimes.

We study lepton flavour universality violation in SM boson decays in low-scale seesaw models of neutrino mass generation, also addressing other electroweak precision observables. We compute the electroweak next-to-leading order corrections, which turn out to be important - notably in the case of the invisible decay width of the $Z$ boson, for which the corrections can be as large as the current experimental uncertainty. As a well-motivated illustrative study case, we choose a realisation of the Inverse Seesaw mechanism, and discuss the complementary role of lepton flavour conserving, lepton flavour violating and precision observables, both in constraining and in probing such models of neutrino mass generation. Our findings suggest that invisible $Z$ decays are especially important, potentially at the origin of the most stringent constraints for certain regimes of the Inverse Seesaw (while complying with charge lepton flavour violation and other electroweak precision tests). We also discuss the probing power of the considered observables in view of the expected improvement in experimental precision at FCC-ee.

Heavy neutral leptons are motivated by several extensions of the Standard Model and their presence induces modifications in the lepton mixing matrix, including new Dirac and Majorana CP violating phases. It has been recently shown that these phases play an important role in lepton number and lepton flavour violating decays and transitions, with a striking impact for the predicted rates of certain observables. In this work, we now consider the potential role of the heavy neutral fermions and of the new CP violating phases in Higgs and $Z$-boson lepton flavour violating decays $H,Z\to \ell_α^\pm\ell_β^\mp$, as well as in the corresponding CP asymmetries. In order to allow for a thorough analysis, we derive the full analytical expressions of the latter observables, taking into account the effect of the (final state) charged lepton masses. A comprehensive exploration of lepton flavour violating $Z$ and Higgs decays confirms that these are very sensitive to the presence of the additional heavy neutral leptons. Moreover, the new CPV phases have a clear impact on the decay rates, leading to both destructive and constructive interferences. Interestingly, in the $μτ$ sector, the $Z\to \ell_α^\pm\ell_β^\mp$ rates are within reach of FCC-ee, with associated CP asymmetries that can potentially reach up to $20\% - 30\%$.

The apparent tensions emerging from the comparison of experimental data of the anomalous magnetic moments of the muon and electron to the Standard Model predictions ($Δa_{μ,e}$) could be interpreted as a potential signal of New Physics. Models encompassing a light vector boson have been known to offer a satisfactory explanation to $Δa_μ$, albeit subject to stringent experimental constraints. Here we explore a minimal extension of the Standard Model via a leptophilic vector boson $Z^\prime$, under the hypothesis of strictly flavour-violating couplings of the latter to leptons. The most constraining observables to this ad-hoc construction emerge from lepton flavour universality violation (in $Z$ and $τ$ decays) and from rare charged lepton flavour violating transitions. Once these are accommodated, one can saturate the tensions in $Δa_μ$, but $Δa_{e}$ is predicted to be Standard Model-like. We infer prospects for several observables, including leptonic $Z$ decays and several charged lepton flavour violating processes. We also discuss potential signatures of the considered $Z^\prime$ at a future muon collider, emphasising the role of the $μ^+μ^- \toτ^+τ^- $ forward-backward asymmetry as a key probe of the model.

Precision measures of electroweak and flavour observables, at both low and high energies, are highly complementary to direct searches for New Physics at high-energy colliders. Despite the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider, and of the overwhelming successes of the Standard Model, several observational and theoretical problems remain to be addressed. In addition to neutrino oscillation phenomena, the Standard Model fails to explain the baryon asymmetry of the Universe, and does not offer a viable dark matter candidate. In recent years, numerous deviations between the Standard Model prediction and experimental measurements have been identified; interestingly, most are closely connected to lepton flavours.
In this thesis we have explored several aspects of flavour physics, focusing on the phenomenological implications of models of massive neutrinos, and of several Standard Model extensions capable of accommodating current tensions on anomalous magnetic moments of charged leptons and several $B$-meson decay observables.

We explore the interference effects in several cLFV observables, carrying for the first time a thorough analysis of the different observables and the implications for future observation. We discuss how the presence of leptonic CP violating phases might lead to a loss of correlation between observables (typically present in simple SM extensions via heavy sterile fermions), or even to the suppression of certain channels; these effects can be interpreted as suggestive of non-vanishing phases.

These symmetries are broken in a peculiar way, so that in the charged lepton sector a residual symmetry $G_\ell$ is preserved, while the neutral fermion sector remains invariant under the residual symmetry $G_ν=Z_2 \times CP$. We study the concrete setup, where the Majorana mass term for three of the sterile states conserves $G_ν$, while the remaining mass terms (i.e. couplings of left-handed leptons and heavy sterile states, as well as the Dirac-type couplings among the latter) do not break the flavour or CP symmetry. We perform a comprehensive analysis of lepton mixing for different classes of residual symmetries, giving examples for each of these, and study in detail the impact of the additional sterile states on the predictions for lepton mixing. We further confront our results with those obtained in the model-independent scenario, in which the light neutrino mass matrix leaves the residual symmetry $G_ν$ intact. We consider the phenomenological impact of the inverse seesaw mechanism endowed with flavour and CP symmetries, in particular concerning effects of non-unitarity of the lepton mixing matrix (which strongly constrain the parameter space of the scenario), prospects for neutrinoless double beta decay and for charged lepton flavour violating processes.

In view of the emerging hints for the violation of lepton flavour universality in several $B$-meson decays, we conduct a model-independent study (effective field theory approach) of several well-motivated new physics scenarios. Taking into account the most recent LHCb data, we provide updates to Wilson coefficient fits for numerous popular new physics hypotheses. We also consider a promising model of vector leptoquarks, which in addition to explaining the $B$-meson decay anomalies ($R_{K^{(*)}}$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$) would have an extensive impact for numerous flavour observables. We identify promising decay modes allowing to (indirectly) probe such an extension: these include positive signals (at Belle II or LHCb) for $τ\to φμ$, $B_{(s)}$-meson decays to $τ^+ τ^-$ and $τ^+ μ^-$ ($τ^+ e^-$) final states, as well as an observation of certain charged lepton flavour violation transitions at COMET and Mu2e. We also argue how the evolution of the experimental determination of $R_{D^{(*)}}$ can prove instrumental in falsifying a vector leptoquark explanation of the anomalous $B$-meson decay data.

Motivated by a simultaneous explanation of the apparent discrepancies in the light charged lepton anomalous magnetic dipole moments, and the anomalous internal pair creation in $^8$Be nuclear transitions, we explore a simple New Physics model, based on an extension of the Standard Model gauge group by a $U(1)_{B-L}$. The model further includes heavy vector-like fermion fields, as well as an extra scalar responsible for the low-scale breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$, which gives rise to a light $Z^\prime$ boson. The new fields and currents allow to explain the anomalous internal pair creation in $^8$Be while being consistent with various experimental constraints. Interestingly, we find that the contributions of the $Z^\prime$ and the new $U(1)_{B-L}$-breaking scalar can also successfully account for both $(g-2)_{e,μ}$ anomalies; the strong phenomenological constraints on the model's parameter space ultimately render the combined explanation of $(g-2)_e$ and the anomalous internal pair creation in $^8$Be particularly predictive. The underlying idea of this minimal "prototype model" can be readily incorporated into other protophobic $U(1)$ extensions of the Standard Model.
