Abstract:
The primary purpose of this paper is to generalize the classical Riemann zeta function to the setting of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. We provide a first study of the same generalization by extending Euler's classical product formula to the more general scenario of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. In doing so, the Decay Theorem is fundamental as it allows us to use strong atoms…

The primary purpose of this paper is to generalize the classical Riemann zeta function to the setting of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. We provide a first study of the same generalization by extending Euler's classical product formula to the more general scenario of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. In doing so, the Decay Theorem is fundamental as it allows us to use strong atoms instead of primes to obtain a weaker version of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic in the more general setting of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. Several related examples are exhibited throughout the paper, in particular, algebraic number fields for which the generalized Riemann zeta function specializes to the Dedekind zeta function.

In an additive factorial monoid each element can be represented as a linear combination of irreducible elements (atoms) with uniquely determined coefficients running over all natural numbers.
In this paper we develop for a wide class of non-factorial monoids a concept of stratification for atoms which allows to represent each element as a linear combination of atoms where the coefficients are uniquely determined when restricted in a particular way. This wide class includes inside factorial monoids and in particular simplicial affine semigroups. In the latter case the question of uniqueness is related to a problem studied by E. B. Elliott in a paper from 1903.
For the monoid of all nonnegative solutions of a certain linear Diophantine equation in three variables, Elliott considers "simple sets of solutions" (atoms of the monoid) and looks for a method that gives "every set once only". We show that for simplicial affine semigroups in two dimensions a stratification is always possible, which answers to Elliott's problem also for the cases he left open.
The results in this paper on the stratification of atoms for monoids in general may be seen also as an answer to a "generalized Elliott problem".

We consider a disordered Hubbard model, and show that, at sufficiently weak disorder, a single spin-down mobile impurity can thermalize an extensive initially localized system of spin-up particles. We consider a disordered Hubbard model, and show that, at sufficiently weak disorder, a single spin-down mobile impurity can thermalize an extensive initially localized system of spin-up particles. Thermalization is enabled by resonant processes which involve correlated hops of the impurity and localized particles. This effect indicates that certain localized insulators behave as "supercooled" systems, with mobile impurities acting as ergodic seeds. We provide analytical estimates, supported by numerical exact diagonalization (ED), showing how the critical disorder strength for such mechanism depends on the particle density of the localized system. In the $U\rightarrow\infty$ limit, doublons are stable excitations, and they can thermalize mesoscopic systems by a similar mechanism. The emergence of an additional conservation law leads to an eventual localization of doublons. Our predictions apply to fermionic and bosonic systems and are readily accessible in ongoing experiments simulating synthetic quantum lattices with tunable disorder.

Inside factorial monoids and the cale monoid of a single Diophantine equation

Abstract:
We give a structure theorem for inside factorial domains. As an example we study the monoid of nonnegative integer solutions of equations of the form $a_1x_1+\cdots +a_{r-1}x_{r-1}=a_rx_r$, with $a_1,\ldots,a_r$ positive integers. This set is isomorphic to a simplicial full affine semigroup, and thus it can be described in terms of its extremal rays and the Apéry sets with respect to the extremal…

Re-Engineering of the GSI Control System
Authors:
U. Krause,

Abstract:
After more than 12 years of operation without substantial revision a modernization of the control system at GSI is overdue. A strategy to adapt the system to future needs is outlined. The system has to support a specific environment of which the main features are described. More flexibility than in the current system can be achieved while still using many parts of the actual system.
