Abstract:
In this work, we precisely measure the transition energies between the Rydberg state n$\text{D}_{5/2}$ to the nearby Rydberg states $(\e{n}+2)\text{P}_{3/2}$, $(\e{n}-2)\text{F}_{7/2}$ for the range $41\leq \e{n}\leq46$. This was done by carrying out microwave spectroscopy via Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) in a room temperature vapor reference cell of Rubidium, which is similar to the experimental approach followed by Li et al. [Results in Physics \textbf{29}, 104728 (2021)]. This range is interesting because there is a quasi Förster resonance between the atomic pair $43\text{D}_{5/2}+43\text{D}_{5/2}$ and $45\text{P}_{3/2}+41\text{F}_{7/2}$. We compared the obtained results with numerically calculated transition energies based on previously tabulated quantum defect numbers by various research groups using both hot and ultra-cold atomic samples. Our data are more consistent with measurements made within ultra-cold atomic systems [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{67}, 052502 (2003), Phys. Rev. A \textbf{74}, 054502 (2006)].

Abstract:
We propose to use the nuclear spin excitation in the ferromagnetic A1 phase of the superfluid $^3$He for the axion dark matter detection. This approach is striking in that it is sensitive to the axion-nucleon coupling, one of the most important features of the QCD axion introduced to solve the strong CP problem. We review a quantum mechanical description of the nuclear spin excitation and apply it…

We review a quantum mechanical description of the nuclear spin excitation and apply it to the estimation of the axion-induced spin excitation rate. We also describe a possible detection method of the spin excitation in detail and show that the combination of the squeezing of the final state with the Josephson parametric amplifier and the homodyne measurement can enhance the sensitivity. It turns out that this approach gives good sensitivity to the axion dark matter with the mass of $O(1) \, μ\mathrm{eV}$ depending on the size of the external magnetic field. We estimate the parameters of experimental setups, e.g., the detector volume and the amplitude of squeezing, required to reach the QCD axion parameter space.

We introduce a systematic method to classify the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) operators based on their CP properties with the Hilbert series techniques. We introduce a systematic method to classify the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) operators based on their CP properties with the Hilbert series techniques. Our method makes it possible to enumerate operators violating CP symmetry in a few seconds. We present the complete classification of dimension eight operators under CP transformation, and the number of CP-odd or CP-violating operators are listed up to dimension 14. We also provide a companion code in FORM that allows anybody to reproduce our results.

Emergent higher-form symmetry in Higgs phases with superfluidity

Abstract:
We address emergent higher-form symmetry in Higgs phases with superfluidity. The emergent symmetry appears if a matter field is invariant under a transformation of a common subgroup of gauge and global $\mathrm{U}(1)$ symmetries. We explicitly construct the symmetry generator that is topological and gauge invariant in a low-energy effective theory. Such emergent symmetry is helpful to distinguish…

We explicitly construct the symmetry generator that is topological and gauge invariant in a low-energy effective theory. Such emergent symmetry is helpful to distinguish the Higgs and other phases with superfluidity, such as phases of QCD at finite density. We also discuss the possibility of phase transition between these phases.

Abstract:
Arguably, the simplest chiral gauge theories are $\mathrm{SO}(10)$ with $N_f$ fermion fields in the spinor representation {\bf 16}. We study their dynamics using their supersymmetric limits perturbed by an infinitesimal anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking as a guide. We predict the theory is gapped for $N_f=1,2$, while the $\mathrm{SU}(N_f)$ global symmetry is broken to…

Abstract:
We present a model of self-interacting dark matter based on QCD-like theories and inspired by the proximity of $a_0(980\pm 20)$ to the $K\bar{K}(990)$ threshold. Dark matter is comprised of dark pions which self-scatter via the $σ$ resonance close to the $ππ$ threshold. While the linear sigma model serves as a qualitative guide, a fully unitary description of the scattering in the strongly coupled regime is given by effective range theory. The introduction of a kinetically mixed dark photon allows the dark pion to either freeze-out or -in. We study the viable parameter space which explains the observed relic abundance while evading all current constraints. Searches for dark matter self interactions at different scales, (in)direct detection signals, and (in)visibly-decaying dark photons will test this model in the near future.

Images of HSC J091843.27$-$022007.5 show a red galaxy with two blue point sources at either side, separated by 2.26 arcsec. This system has a source and a lens redshifts $z_s=0.804$ and $z_{\ell}=0.459$, respectively, as obtained by our follow-up spectroscopic data. CXCO J100201.50$+$020330.0 shows two point sources separated by 0.85 arcsec on either side of an early-type galaxy. The follow-up spectroscopic data confirm the fainter quasar has the same redshift with the brighter quasar from the SDSS fiber spectrum at $z_s=2.016$. The deflecting foreground galaxy is a typical early-type galaxy at a redshift of $z_{\ell}=0.439$. SDSS J135944.21$+$012809.8 has two point sources with quasar spectra at the same redshift $z_s=1.096$, separated by 1.05 arcsec, and fits to the HSC images confirm the presence of a galaxy between these. These discoveries demonstrate the power of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP)'s deep imaging and wide sky coverage. Combined with existing X-ray source catalogues and follow-up spectroscopy, the HSC-SSP provides us unique opportunities to find multiple-image quasars lensed by a foreground galaxy.

Understanding and modelling resources of Internet end hosts is essential for the design of desktop software and Internet-distributed applications. In this paper we develop a correlated resource model of Internet end hosts based on real trace data taken from the SETI@home project. This data covers a 5-year period with statistics for 2.7 million hosts. The resource model is based on statistical analysis of host computational power, memory, and storage as well as how these resources change over time and the correlations between them. We find that resources with few discrete values (core count, memory) are well modeled by exponential laws governing the change of relative resource quantities over time. Resources with a continuous range of values are well modeled with either correlated normal distributions (processor speed for integer operations and floating point operations) or log-normal distributions (available disk space). We validate and show the utility of the models by applying them to a resource allocation problem for Internet-distributed applications, and demonstrate their value over other models. We also make our trace data and tool for automatically generating realistic Internet end hosts publicly available.
