We investigate the ultrafast lattice dynamics in ${1T-TiSe_2}$ using femtosecond reflection pump-probe and pump-pump-probe techniques at room temperature. The time-domain signals and Fourier-transformed spectra show the $A_{1g}$ phonon mode at 5.9 THz. Moreover, we observe an additional mode at $\approx$ 3 THz, corresponding to the charge-density wave (CDW) amplitude mode, which is generally visible below T$_c \approx 200\ $K. We argue that the emergence of the CDW amplitude mode at room temperature can be a consequence of fluctuations of order parameters, based on the additional experiment using the pump-pump-probe technique, which exhibited suppression of the AM signal within the ultrafast time scale of $\sim$ 0.5 ps.

This paper deals with the expectation of monomials with respect to the stochastic area integral $A_{1,2}(t,t+h)=\int_{t}^{t+h}\int_{t}^{s}{\rm d} W_{1}(r){\rm d} W_{2}(s) -\int_{t}^{t+h}\int_{t}^{s}{\rm d} W_{2}(r){\rm d} W_{1}(s)$ and the increments of two Wiener processes, $Δ{W}_{i}(t,t+h)=W_{i}(t+h)-W_{i}(t),\ i=1,2$. In a monomial, if the exponent of one of the Wiener increments or the stochastic area integral is an odd number, then the expectation of the monomial is zero. However, if the exponent of any of them is an even number, then the expectation is nonzero and its exact value is not known in general. In the present paper, we derive formulae to give the value in general. As an application of the formulae, we will utilize the formulae for a careful stability analysis on a Magnus-type Milstein method. As another application, we will give some mixed moments of the increments of Wiener processes and stochastic double integrals.

We investigate ultrafast phonon dynamics in the Bi$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$ alloy system for various compositions $x$ using a reflective femtosecond pump-probe technique. The coherent optical phonons corresponding to the A$_{1g}$ local vibrational modes of Bi-Bi, Bi-Sb, and Sb-Sb are generated and observed in the time domain with a few picoseconds dephasing time. The frequencies of the coherent optical phonons were found to change as the Sb composition $x$ was varied, and more importantly, the relaxation time of those phonon modes was dramatically reduced for $x$ values in the range 0.5--0.8. We argue that the phonon relaxation dynamics are not simply governed by alloy scattering, but are significantly modified by anharmonic phonon-phonon scattering with implied minor contributions from electron-phonon scattering in a Weyl-semimetal phase.

We developed a positron emission tomography (PET) system for multiple-isotope imaging. Our PET system, named multiple-isotope PET (MI-PET), can distinguish between different tracer nuclides using coincidence measurement of prompt gamma-rays, which are emitted after positron emission. In MI-PET imaging with a pure positron emitter and prompt-gamma emitter, because of the imperfectness of prompt gamma-ray detection, an image for a pure positron emitter taken by MI-PET is superposed by a positron-γ emitter. Therefore, in order to make isolated images of the pure positron emitter, we developed image reconstruction methods based on data subtraction specific to MI-PET. We tested two methods, subtraction between reconstructed images and subtraction between sinogram data. In both methods, normalization for position dependence of the prompt γ-ray sensitivity is required in addition to detector sensitivity normalization. For these normalizations, we performed normalization scans using cylindrical phantoms of the positron-gamma emitters Sc-44m and Na-22. A long period measurement using the activity decay of Sc-44m (Half-life 58.6 hours) elucidated that the acquisition ratio between the prompt gamma-rays coincided with PET event and pure PET event changes on the basis of object activities. Therefore, we developed a correction method that involves subtraction parameters dependent on the activities, i.e., the counting rate. From analysis of dual-tracer phantom images, data subtraction in the sinogram data with sensitivity correction gives a higher quality of isolated images for the pure positron emitter than those from image subtractions. Furthermore, from dual-isotope (F-18-FDG and Sc-44m) mouse imaging, we concluded that our developed method can be used for practical imaging of a living organism.

Interpretability of machine learning is defined as the extent to which humans can comprehend the reason of a decision. However, a neural network is not considered interpretable due to the ambiguity in its decision-making process. Therefore, in this study, we propose a new algorithm that reveals which feature values the trained neural network considers important and which paths are mainly traced in the process of decision-making. In the proposed algorithm, the score estimated by the correlation coefficients between the neural network layers that can be calculated by applying the concept of a pair copula was defined. We compared the estimated score with the feature importance values of Random Forest, which is sometimes regarded as a highly interpretable algorithm, in the experiment and confirmed that the results were consistent with each other. This algorithm suggests an approach for compressing a neural network and its parameter tuning because the algorithm identifies the paths that contribute to the classification or prediction results.

The interpretability of machine learning, particularly for deep neural networks, is crucial for decision making in real-world applications. One approach is replacing the un-interpretable machine learning model with a surrogate model, which has a simple structure for interpretation. Another approach is understanding the target system by using a simulation modeled by human knowledge with interpretable simulation parameters. Recently, simulator calibration has been developed based on kernel mean embedding to estimate the simulation parameters as posterior distributions. Our idea is to use a simulation model as an interpretable surrogate model. However, the computational cost of simulator calibration is high owing to the complexity of the simulation model. Thus, we propose a ''model-bridging'' framework to bridge machine learning models with simulation models by a series of kernel mean embeddings to address these difficulties. The proposed framework enables us to obtain predictions and interpretable simulation parameters simultaneously without the computationally expensive calculations of the simulations. In this study, we apply the proposed framework to essential simulations in the manufacturing industry, such as production simulation and fluid dynamics simulation.

The second method for $C_2$ is more elementary, using partial fraction decompositions.

We consider a certain linear combination $S(\mathbf{s},\mathbf{y};I;Δ)$ of zeta-functions of root systems, where $Δ$ is a root system of rank $r$ and $I\subset\{1,2,\ldots,r\}$. Showing two different expressions of $S(\mathbf{s},\mathbf{y};I;Δ)$, we find that a certain signed sum of zeta-functions of root systems is equal to a sum involving Bernoulli functions of root systems. This identity gives a non-trivial functional relation among zeta-functions of root systems, if the signed sum does not identically vanish. This is a genralization of the authors' previous result proved in \cite{KMTLondon}, in the case when $I=\emptyset$. We present several explicit examples of such functional relations. A criterion of the non-vanishing of the signed sum, in terms of Poincar{é} polynomials of associated Weyl groups, is given. Moreover we prove a certain converse theorem, which implies that the generating function for the case $I=\emptyset$ essentially knows all information on generating functions for general $I$.

Cross sections of alpha particle induced nuclear reactions have been measured on thin natural cadmium targets foils in the energy range from 11 to 51.2 MeV. This work was a part of our systematic study on excitation functions of light ion induced nuclear reactions on different target materials. Regarding the cross sections, the alpha induced reactions are not deeply enough investigated. Some of the produced isotopes are of medical interest, others have application in research and industry. The radioisotope $^{117m}$Sn is a very important theranostic (therapeutic + diagnostic) radioisotope, so special care was taken to the results for that isotope. The well-established stacked foil technique followed by gamma-spectrometry with HPGe gamma spectrometers were used. The target and monitor foils in the stack were commercial high purity metal foils. From the irradiated targets $^{117m}$Sn, $^{113}$Sn, $^{110}$Sn, $^{117m,g}$In, $^{116m}$In, $^{115m}$In, $^{114m}$In, $^{113m}$In, $^{111}$In, $^{110m,g}$In, $^{109m}$In, $^{108m}$In, $^{115g}$Cd and $^{111m}$Cd were identified and their excitation functions were derived. The results were compared with the data of the previous measurements from the literature and with the results of the theoretical nuclear reaction model code calculations TALYS 1.8 (TENDL-2015) and EMPIRE 3.2 (Malta). From the cross section curves thick target yields were calculated and compared with the available literature data.

$^{117m}$Sn is one of the radioisotopes can be beneficially produced through alpha particle irradiation. The targets were prepared by deposition of $^{116}$Cd metal onto high purity 12 $μ$m thick Cu backing. The average deposited thickness was 21.9 $μ$m. The beam energy was thoroughly measured by Time of Flight (TOF) methods and proved to be 51.2 MeV. For the experiment the well-established stacked foil technique was used. In addition to the Cd targets, Ti foils were also inserted into the stacks for energy and intensity monitoring. The Cu backings were also used for monitoring and as recoil catcher of the reaction products from the cadmium layer. The activities of the irradiated foils were measured with HPGe detector for gamma-ray spectrometry and cross section values were determined. As a result excitation functions for the formation of $^{117m}$Sn, $^{117m,g}$In, $^{116m}$In, $^{115m}$In and $^{115m,g}$Cd from enriched $^{116}$Cd were deduced and compared with the available literature data and with the results of the nuclear reaction model code calculations EMPIRE 3.2 and TALYS 1.8. We introduce the method of desingularization of multi-variable multiple zeta-functions (of the generalized Euler-Zagier type), under the motivation of finding suitable rigorous meaning of the values of multiple zeta-functions at non-positive integer points. We reveal that multiple zeta-functions (which are known to be meromorphic in the whole space with infinitely many singular hyperplanes) turn to be entire on the whole space after taking the desingularization. The desingularized function is given by a suitable finite `linear' combination of multiple zeta-functions with some arguments shifted. It is shown that specific combinations of Bernoulli numbers attain the special values at their non-positive integers of the desingularized ones. We also discuss twisted multiple zeta-functions, which can be continued to entire functions, and their special values at non-positive integer points can be explicitly calculated.

We are interested in the harmonic analysis on $p$-adic homogeneous spaces based on spherical functions. In the present paper, we investigate the space $X$ of unitary hermitian matrices of odd size over a ${\mathfrak p}$-adic field of odd residual characteristic, which is a continuation of our previous paper where we have studied for even size matrices. First we give the explicit representatives of the Cartan decomposition of $X$ and introduce a typical spherical function $ω(x;z)$ on $X$. After studying the functional equations, we give an explicit formula for $ω(x;z)$, where Hall-Littlewood polynomials of type $C_n$ appear as a main term, though the unitary group acting on $X$ is of type $BC_n$. By spherical transform, we show the Schwartz space ${\mathcal S}(K \backslash X)$ is a free Hecke algebra ${\mathcal H}(G, K)$-module of rank $2^n$, where $2n+1$ is the size of matrices in $X$, and give parametrization of all the spherical functions on $X$ and the explicit Plancherel formula on ${\mathcal S}(K \backslash X)$.

A new parameterization and algorithm are proposed for seeking the primary relative maximum of the likelihood function in the three-parameter lognormal distribution. The parameterization yields the dimension reduction of the three-parameter estimation problem to a two-parameter estimation problem on the basis of an extended lognormal distribution. The algorithm provides the way of seeking the profile of an object function in the two-parameter estimation problem. It is simple and numerically stable because it is constructed on the basis of the bisection method. The profile clearly and easily shows whether a primary relative maximum exists or not, and also gives a primary relative maximum certainly if it exists.

This paper deals with a multiple version of zeta- and L-functions both in the complex case and in the p-adic case: [I] Our motivation in the complex case is to find suitable rigorous meaning of the values of multivariable multiple zeta-functions (MZFs) at non-positive integer points. (a) We reveal that MZFs turn to be entire on the whole space after taking the desingularization. Further we show that the desingularized function is given by a suitable finite linear combination of MZFs with some arguments shifted. It is also shown that specific combinations of Bernoulli numbers attain the special values at their non-positive integers of the desingularized ones. (b) Twisted MZFs can be continued to entire functions and their special values at non-positive integer points can be explicitly calculated. [II] Our work in the p-adic case is to develop the study on analytic side of the Kubota-Leopoldt p-adic L-functions (pLFs) into the multiple setting. We construct p-adic multiple L-functions (pMLFs), multivariable versions of their pLFs, by using a specific p-adic measure. We establish their various fundamental properties: (a) We establish their intimate connection with the above complex MZFs by showing that the special values of pMLFs at non-positive integers are expressed by the twisted multiple Bernoulli numbers, the special values of the complex MZFs at non-positive integers. (b) We extend Kummer congruence for Bernoulli numbers to congruences for the twisted multiple Bernoulli numbers. (c) We extend the vanishing property of the Kubota-Leopoldt pLFs with odd characters to our pMLFs. (d) We establish their close relationship with the p-adic twisted multiple polylogarithms (pTMPLs) by showing that the special values of pMLFs at positive integers are described by those of pTMPLs at roots of unity, which generalizes the previous result of Coleman in the single variable case.

This article is aimed at the investigation of some properties of the Weibull cumulative exposure model on multiple-step step-stress accelerated life test data. Although the model includes a probabilistic idea of Miner's rule in order to express the effect of cumulative damage in fatigue, our result shows that the application of only this is not sufficient to express degradation of specimens and the shape parameter must be larger than 1. For a random variable obeying the model, its average and standard deviation are investigated on a various sets of parameter values. In addition, a way of checking the validity of the model is illustrated through an example of the maximum likelihood estimation on an actual data set, which is about time to breakdown of cross-linked polyethylene-insulated cables.

We have observed the primary electron spectrum from 30 GeV to 3 TeV using emulsion chambers flown by balloons at the top of the atmosphere, for the purpose of exploring the origin of cosmic rays in the Galaxy. The atmospheric gamma rays have been simultaneously observed in the 30 GeV $\sim$ 8 TeV energy range. In this paper, we estimate the atmospheric electron spectrum in the upper atmosphere ($<$ 10 ${\rm g/cm^2}$) from our observed gamma-ray spectrum using the electromagnetic shower theory in order to derive the primary cosmic-ray electron spectrum. The transport equations of the electron and gamma-ray spectrum are analytically solved and the results are compared with those of Monte Carlo simulation (MC). Since we used the observed atmospheric gamma rays as the source of atmospheric electrons, our solutions are free from ambiguities on the primary cosmic-ray nuclear spectra and nuclear interaction models included in MC. In the energy range above several hundred GeV, the Dalitz electrons produced directly from neutral pions contribute around 10 percent to the whole atmospheric electron spectrum at the depth of 4 ${\rm g/cm^2}$, which increases in importance at the higher altitude and cannot be ignored in TeV electron balloon observations.

We have performed a series of cosmic-ray electron observations using the balloon-borne emulsion chambers since 1968. While we previously reported the results from subsets of the exposures, the final results of the total exposures up to 2001 are presented here. Our successive experiments have yielded the total exposure of 8.19 m^2 sr day at the altitudes of 4.0 - 9.4 g/cm^2. The performance of the emulsion chambers was examined by accelerator beam tests and Monte-Carlo simulations, and the on-board calibrations were carried out by using the flight data. In this work we present the cosmic-ray electron spectrum in the energy range from 30 GeV to 3 TeV at the top of the atmosphere, which is well represented by a power-law function with an index of -3.28+-0.10. The observed data can be also interpreted in terms of diffusive propagation models. The evidence of cosmic-ray electrons up to 3 TeV suggests the existence of cosmic-ray electron sources at distances within ~1 kpc and times within ~1x10^5 yr ago.

First we consider Cartan decomposition of $X$, and give precise representatives for fields with odd residual characteristic, i.e., $2\notin \frp$. In the latter half we assume odd residual characteristic, and give explicit formulas of typical spherical functions on $X$, where Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials of type $C_n$ appear as a main term, parametrization of all the spherical functions. By spherical Fourier transform, we show the Schwartz space $\SKX$ is a free Hecke algebra $\hec$-module of rank $2^n$, where $2n$ is the size of matrices in $X$, and give the explicit Plancherel formula on $\SKX$.

We study multiple zeta values (MZVs) from the viewpoint of zeta-functions associated with the root systems which we have studied in our previous papers. In fact, the $r$-ple zeta-functions of Euler-Zagier type can be regarded as the zeta-function associated with a certain sub-root system of type $C_r$. Hence, by the action of the Weyl group, we can find new aspects of MZVs which imply that the well-known formula for MZVs given by Hoffman and Zagier coincides with Witten's volume formula associated with the above sub-root system of type $C_r$. Also, from this observation, we can prove some new formulas which especially include the parity results of double and triple zeta values. As another important application, we give certain refinement of restricted sum formulas, which gives restricted sum formulas among MZVs of an arbitrary depth $r$ which were previously known only in the cases of depth $2,3,4$. Furthermore, considering a sub-root system of type $B_r$ analogously, we can give relevant analogues of the Hoffman-Zagier formula, parity results and restricted sum formulas.

It is called the complex Fenchel-Nielsen coordinates of QF. For a complex number c, let Q_gamma,c be the affine subspace of C^2 defined by the linear equation l_V=c. Then we can consider the linear slice L of QF by QF \cap Q_gamma,c which is a holomorphic slice of QF. For any positive real value c, L always contains the so called Bers-Maskit slice BM_gamma,c. In this paper we show that if c is sufficiently small, then L coincides with BM_gamma,c whereas L has other components besides BM_gamma,c when c is sufficiently large. We also observe the scaling property of L.

We have observed atmospheric gamma rays from 30GeV to 8TeV, using emulsion chambers at balloon altitudes, accumulating the largest total exposure in this energy range to date, SOT ~ 6.66m^2.sr.day. At very high altitudes, with residual overburden only a few g/cm^2, atmospheric gamma rays are mainly produced by a single interaction of primary cosmic rays with overlying atmospheric nuclei. Thus, we can use these gamma rays to study the spectrum of primary cosmic rays and their products in the atmosphere. From the observed atmospheric gamma ray spectrum, we deconvolved the primary cosmic-ray proton spectrum, assuming appropriate hadronic interaction models. Our deconvolved proton spectrum covers the energy range from 200GeV to 50TeV, which fills a gap in the currently available primary cosmic-ray proton spectra. We also estimated the atmospheric muon spectrum above 30GeV at high altitude from our gamma-ray spectrum, almost without reference to the primary cosmic rays, and compared the estimated flux with direct muon observations below 10GeV.

Abstract:
Evidence of the Ettingshausen effect in the breakdown regime of the integer quantum Hall effect has been observed in a GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional electron system. Resistance of micro Hall bars attached to both edges of a current channel shows remarkable asymmetric behaviors which indicate an electron temperature difference between the edges. The sign of the difference depends on the direction o…

The sign of the difference depends on the direction of the electric current and the polarity of the magnetic field. The results are consistent with the recent theory of Akera.

Evidences of non-thermal X-ray emission and TeV gamma-rays from the supernova remnants (SNRs) has strengthened the hypothesis that primary Galactic cosmic-ray electrons are accelerated in SNRs. High energy electrons lose energy via synchrotron and inverse Compton processes during propagation in the Galaxy. Due to these radiative losses, TeV electrons liberated from SNRs at distances larger than ~1 kpc, or times older than ~10^5 yr, cannot reach the solar system. We investigated the cosmic-ray electron spectrum observed in the solar system using an analytical method, and considered several candidate sources among nearby SNRs which may contribute to the high energy electron flux. Especially, we discuss the effects for the release time from SNRs after the explosion, as well as the deviation of a source spectrum from a simple power-law. From this calculation, we found that some nearby sources such as the Vela, Cygnus Loop, or Monogem could leave unique signatures in the form of identifiable structure in the energy spectrum of TeV electrons and show anisotropies towards the sources, depending on when the electrons are liberated from the remnant. This suggests that, in addition to providing information on the mechanisms of acceleration and propagation of cosmic-rays, specific cosmic-ray sources can be identified through the precise electron observation in the TeV region.

Abstract:
We observed atmospheric gamma-rays around 10 GeV at balloon altitudes (15~25 km) and at a mountain (2770 m a.s.l). The observed results were compared with Monte Carlo calculations to find that an interaction model (Lund Fritiof1.6) used in an old neutrino flux calculation was not good enough for describing the observed values. In stead, we found that two other nuclear interaction models, Lund Fr…

In stead, we found that two other nuclear interaction models, Lund Fritiof7.02 and dpmjet3.03, gave much better agreement with the observations. Our data will serve for examining nuclear interaction models and for deriving a reliable absolute atmospheric neutrino flux in the GeV region.
