The ultimate goal of this project is to develop a systematic method for deriving quantum master equations that satisfy the requirements of a completely positive and trace-preserving (CPTP) map, further describing thermal relaxation processes. In this paper, we assume that the quantum master equation is obtained through the canonical quantization of the generalized Brownian motion proposed in [Physics Letters A, 494, 129277 (2024)]. At least classically, this dynamics describes the thermal relaxation process regardless of the choice of the system Hamiltonian. The remaining task is to identify the parameters ensuring that the quantum master equation meets complete positivity. We limit our discussion to many-body quadratic Hamiltonians and establish a CPTP criterion for our quantum master equation. This criterion is useful for applying our quantum master equation to models with interaction such as a network model, which has been used to investigate how quantum effects modify heat conduction.

The proliferation of phishing sites and emails poses significant challenges to existing cybersecurity efforts. Despite advances in spam filters and email security protocols, problems with oversight and false positives persist. Users often struggle to understand why emails are flagged as spam, risking the possibility of missing important communications or mistakenly trusting phishing emails.
This study introduces ChatSpamDetector, a system that uses large language models (LLMs) to detect phishing emails. By converting email data into a prompt suitable for LLM analysis, the system provides a highly accurate determination of whether an email is phishing or not. Importantly, it offers detailed reasoning for its phishing determinations, assisting users in making informed decisions about how to handle suspicious emails. We conducted an evaluation using a comprehensive phishing email dataset and compared our system to several LLMs and baseline systems. We confirmed that our system using GPT-4 has superior detection capabilities with an accuracy of 99.70%. Advanced contextual interpretation by LLMs enables the identification of various phishing tactics and impersonations, making them a potentially powerful tool in the fight against email-based phishing threats.

We introduce a generalized classical model of Brownian motion for describing thermal relaxation processes which is thermodynamically consistent. Applying the canonical quantization to this model, a quantum equation for the density operator is obtained. This equation has a thermal equilibrium state as its stationary solution, but the time evolution is not necessarily a Completely Positive and Trace-Preserving (CPTP) map. In the application to the harmonic oscillator potential, however, the requirement of the CPTP map is shown to be satisfied by choosing parameters appropriately and then our equation reproduces a Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad (GKSL) equation satisfying the detailed balance condition. This result suggests a quantum-classical correspondence in thermal relaxation processes and will provide a new insight to the study of decoherence.

Domain squatting is a technique used by attackers to create domain names for phishing sites. In recent phishing attempts, we have observed many domain names that use multiple techniques to evade existing methods for domain squatting. These domain names, which we call generated squatting domains (GSDs), are quite different in appearance from legitimate domain names and do not contain brand names, making them difficult to associate with phishing. In this paper, we propose a system called PhishReplicant that detects GSDs by focusing on the linguistic similarity of domain names. We analyzed newly registered and observed domain names extracted from certificate transparency logs, passive DNS, and DNS zone files. We detected 3,498 domain names acquired by attackers in a four-week experiment, of which 2,821 were used for phishing sites within a month of detection. We also confirmed that our proposed system outperformed existing systems in both detection accuracy and number of domain names detected. As an in-depth analysis, we examined 205k GSDs collected over 150 days and found that phishing using GSDs was distributed globally. However, attackers intensively targeted brands in specific regions and industries. By analyzing GSDs in real time, we can block phishing sites before or immediately after they appear.

The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs), including ChatGPT, is having a significant impact on a wide range of fields. While LLMs have been extensively researched for tasks such as code generation and text synthesis, their application in detecting malicious web content, particularly phishing sites, has been largely unexplored. To combat the rising tide of cyber attacks due to the misuse of LLMs, it is important to automate detection by leveraging the advanced capabilities of LLMs.
In this paper, we propose a novel system called ChatPhishDetector that utilizes LLMs to detect phishing sites. Our system involves leveraging a web crawler to gather information from websites, generating prompts for LLMs based on the crawled data, and then retrieving the detection results from the responses generated by the LLMs. The system enables us to detect multilingual phishing sites with high accuracy by identifying impersonated brands and social engineering techniques in the context of the entire website, without the need to train machine learning models. To evaluate the performance of our system, we conducted experiments on our own dataset and compared it with baseline systems and several LLMs. The experimental results using GPT-4V demonstrated outstanding performance, with a precision of 98.7% and a recall of 99.6%, outperforming the detection results of other LLMs and existing systems. These findings highlight the potential of LLMs for protecting users from online fraudulent activities and have important implications for enhancing cybersecurity measures.

The rise in phishing attacks via e-mail and short message service (SMS) has not slowed down at all. The first thing we need to do to combat the ever-increasing number of phishing attacks is to collect and characterize more phishing cases that reach end users. Without understanding these characteristics, anti-phishing countermeasures cannot evolve. In this study, we propose an approach using Twitter as a new observation point to immediately collect and characterize phishing cases via e-mail and SMS that evade countermeasures and reach users. Specifically, we propose CrowdCanary, a system capable of structurally and accurately extracting phishing information (e.g., URLs and domains) from tweets about phishing by users who have actually discovered or encountered it. In our three months of live operation, CrowdCanary identified 35,432 phishing URLs out of 38,935 phishing reports, 31,960 (90.2%) of these phishing URLs were later detected by the anti-virus engine. We analyzed users who shared phishing threats by categorizing them into two groups: experts and non-experts. As a results, we discovered that CrowdCanary extracts non-expert report-specific information, like company brand name in tweets, phishing attack details from tweet images, and pre-redirect landing page information.

We formulate thermodynamical relations based on the field degrees of freedom by introducing a work induced by the volume change in the function space, in addition to the usual work associated with the spatial volume change. The first and second laws of thermodynamics are defined for such a work inherent to the field theory by generalizing stochastic energetics (stochastic thermodynamics) to the classical real scalar field in contact with a heat bath. We further discuss the local equilibrium ansatz in the function space and show that it is possible to introduce a model of functional ideal hydrodynamics, which is consistent with the derived thermodynamical laws.

We propose new ideal hydrodynamics in the function space which describes a fluid composed of the 1+1 dimensional real scalar field in the framework of the stochastic variational method (SVM). In the derivation, the thermal equilibrium is assumed to the internal state of fluid elements in the function space of the scalar-field configuration. The deterministic trajectory of the functional fluid element is related to the functional generalization of the Bohmian trajectory in relativistic quantum field theory. To find the correspondence relation to standard hydrodynamics, a further coarse-graining should be introduced. Thus functional hydrodynamics is regarded as a mesoscopic theory such as the Boltzmann equation in the dynamical hierarchy of many-body systems. Functional hydrodynamics reproduces the exact behaviors of relativistic quantum field theory in a certain limit. We thus expect that our theory is applicable to study the influence of quantum-field theoretical fluctuation in collective flows of produced particles in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

In order to investigate the origin of the ferromagnetism in Cd1-x-yMnxCryTe, we have studied its element specific magnetic properties by x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at the Cr and Mn L2,3 edges. Thin films were grown by molecular beam epitaxy with a fixed Mn content of x = 0.2 and varying Cr content in the range of y = 0 - 0.04. Measured XAS and XMCD spectra indicate that both Cr and Mn atoms are divalent and that the ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic components of Cr and Mn are aligned in the same directions. The magnetization of Mn increases with increasing Cr content. These results can be explained if ferromagnetic interaction exists between neighboring Mn and Cr ions although interaction between Mn atoms is largely antiferromagnetic. We conclude that each ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic cluster consists of ferromagnetically coupled several Cr and a much larger number of Mn ions.

The systematic expansion method of the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation is developed by generalizing the formulation proposed in [J. Phys. A50, 325001 (2017)]. Using this method, we obtain a new formula to calculate the mean work perturbatively which is applicable to systems with degeneracy in the eigenvalues of the Fokker-Planck operator. This method enables us to study how the geometrical symmetry affects thermodynamic description of a Brownian particle. To illustrate the application of the derived theory, we consider the Fokker-Planck equation with a two-dimensional harmonic potential. To investigate the effect of symmetry of the potential, we study thermodynamic properties in symmetric and asymmetric deformation processes of the potential: the rotational symmetry of the harmonic potential is held in the former, but it is broken in the latter. Optimized deformations in these processes are defined by minimizing mean works. Comparing these optimized processes, we find that the difference between the symmetric and asymmetric processes is maximized when the deformation time of the potential is given by a critical time which is characterized by the relaxation time of the Fokker-Planck equation. This critical time in the mean work is smaller than that of the change of the mean energy because of the hysteresis effect in the irreversible processes.

The van der Waals ferromagnet Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ (CGT) has a two-dimensional crystal structure where each layer is stacked through van der Waals force. We have investigated the nature of the ferromagnetism and the weak perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of CGT by means of X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies of CGT single crystals. The XMCD spectra at the Cr $L_{2,3}$ edge for different magnetic field directions were analyzed on the basis of the cluster-model multiplet calculation. The Cr valence is confirmed to be 3+ and the orbital magnetic moment is found to be nearly quenched, as expected for the high-spin $t_{2g}$$^3$ configuration of the Cr$^{3+}$ ion. A large ($\sim 0.2$ eV) trigonal crystal-field splitting of the $t_{2g}$ level caused by the distortion of the CrTe$_6$ octahedron has been revealed, while the single-ion anisotropy (SIA) of the Cr atom is found to have a sign {\it opposite} to the observed PMA and too weak compared to the reported anisotropy energy. The present result suggests that anisotropic exchange coupling between the Cr atoms through the ligand Te $5p$ orbitals having strong spin-orbit coupling has to be invoked to explain the weak PMA of CGT, as in the case of the strong PMA of CrI$_3$.

We introduce the Poisson bracket operator which is an alternative quantum counterpart of the Poisson bracket. This operator is defined using the operator derivative formulated in quantum analysis and is equivalent to the Poisson bracket in the classical limit. Using this, we derive the quantum canonical equation which describes the time evolution of operators. In the standard applications of quantum mechanics, the quantum canonical equation is equivalent to the Heisenberg equation. At the same time, this equation is applicable to c-number canonical variables and then coincides with the canonical equation in classical mechanics. Therefore the Poisson bracket operator enables us to describe classical and quantum behaviors in a unified way. Moreover, the quantum canonical equation is applicable to non-standard system where the Heisenberg equation is not defined. As an example, we consider the application to the system where a c-number and a q-number particles coexist. The derived dynamics satisfies the Ehrenfest theorem and the energy and momentum conservations.

A minimum uncertainty state for position and momentum of a fluid element is obtained. We consider a general fluid described by the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg (NSK) equation, which reproduces the behaviors of a standard viscous fluid, a fluid with the capillary action and a quantum fluid, with the proper choice of parameters. When the parameters of the NSK equation is adjusted to reproduce Madelung's hydrodynamic representation of the Schreodinger equation, the uncertainty relation of a fluid element reproduces the Kennard and the Robertson-Schreodinger inequalities in quantum mechanics. The derived minimum uncertainty state is the generalization of the coherent state and its uncertainty is given by a function of the shear viscosity. The viscous uncertainty can be smaller than the inviscid minimum value when the shear viscosity is smaller than a critical value which is similar in magnitude to the Kovtun-Son-Starinets (KSS) bound. This uncertainty reflects the information of the fluctuating microscopic degrees of freedom in the fluid and will modify the standard hydrodynamic scenario, for example, in heavy-ion collisions.

The uncertainty relations in hydrodynamics are numerically studied. We first give a review for the formulation of the generalized uncertainty relations in the stochastic variational method (SVM), following the paper by two of the present authors [Phys. Lett. A382, 1472 (2018)]. In this approach, the origin of the finite minimum value of uncertainty is attributed to the non-differentiable (virtual) trajectory of a quantum particle and then both of the Kennard and Robertson-Schrödinger inequalities in quantum mechanics are reproduced. The same non-differentiable trajectory is applied to the motion of fluid elements in hydrodynamics. By introducing the standard deviations of position and momentum for fluid elements, the uncertainty relations in hydrodynamics are derived. These are applicable even to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation and then the field-theoretical uncertainty relation is reproduced. We further investigate numerically the derived relations and find that the behaviors of the uncertainty relations for liquid and gas are qualitatively different. This suggests that the uncertainty relations in hydrodynamics are used as a criterion to classify liquid and gas in fluid.

Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of the new ferromagnetic semiconductor (Ba,K)(Zn,Mn)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ is studied by angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. The large magnetic anisotropy with the anisotropy field of 0.85 T is deduced by fitting the Stoner-Wohlfarth model to the magnetic-field-angle dependence of the projected magnetic moment. Transverse XMCD spectra highlights the anisotropic distribution of Mn 3$d$ electrons, where the $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals are less populated than the $d_{xy}$ state because of the $D_{2d}$ splitting arising from the elongated MnAs$_{4}$ tetrahedra. It is suggested that the magnetic anisotropy originates from the degeneracy lifting of $p$-$d_{xz}$, $d_{yz}$ hybridized states at the Fermi level and resulting energy gain due to spin-orbit coupling when spins are aligned along the $z$ direction.

Hydrodynamics of the non-relativistic compressible fluid in the curved spacetime is derived using the generalized framework of the stochastic variational method (SVM) for continuum medium. The fluid-stress tensor of the resultant equation becomes asymmetric for the exchange of the indices, differently from the standard Euclidean one. Its incompressible limit suggests that the viscous term should be represented with the Bochner Laplacian. Moreover the modified Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) equation proposed by Brenner can be considered even in the curved spacetime. To confirm the compatibility with the symmetry principle, SVM is applied to the gauge-invariant Lagrangian of a charged compressible fluid and then the Lorentz force is reproduced as the interaction between the Abelian gauge fields and the viscous charged fluid.

We theoretically show that a temporally oscillating spin-driven electromotive force or voltage with a large DC component can be generated by exciting microwave-active spin-wave modes of a skyrmion crystal confined in a quasi two-dimensional magnet under a tilted magnetic field. The DC component and the AC amplitude of the oscillating electric voltage is significantly enhanced when the microwave frequency is tuned to an eigenfrequency of the peculiar spin-wave modes of the skyrmion crystal called ``rotation modes" and ``breathing mode", whereas the sign of the DC component depends on the microwave polarization and on the spin-wave mode. These results provide an efficient means to convert microwaves to a DC electric voltage by using skyrmion-hosting magnets and to switch the sign of the voltage via tuning the microwave frequency, which are important capabilities for spintronic devices.

We implement the so-called Weyl-Heisenberg covariant integral quantization in the case of a classical system constrained by a bounded or semi-bounded geometry. The procedure, which is free of the ordering problem of operators, is illustrated with the basic example of the one-dimensional motion of a free particle in an interval, and yields a fuzzy boundary, a position-dependent mass (PDM), and an extra potential on the quantum level. The consistency of our quantization is discussed by analyzing the semi-classical phase space portrait of the derived quantum dynamics, which is obtained as a regularization of its original classical counterpart.

The interplay between quantum fluctuation and spacetime curvature is shown to induce an additional quantum-curvature (QC) term in the energy-momentum tensor of fluid using the generalized framework of the stochastic variational method (SVM). The QC term is necessary to satisfy the momentum conservation but the corresponding quantum hydrodynamics is not necessarily cast into the form of the Schrödinger equation, differently from the case of the Euclidean spacetime. This seems to suggest that the existence of the Hilbert space is not a priori requirement in the quantization of curved spacetime systems. As an example, we apply the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) metric and show that this effect contributes to the cosmological acceleration although it is too small in the present non-relativistic toy model.

Magnetic anisotropy of epitaxially grown thin films is affected by the strain from the substrates due to a combined effect of distorted electronic structure and spin-orbit interaction (SOI). As an inverse process, one expects an anisotropy of the electronic structure induced by magnetization in the presence of SOI. We have studied the charge-density anisotropy induced by magnetization in thin films of the ferromagnetic metal La$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$ via x-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD). XMLD measurements on thin films with various thicknesses have shown that the XMLD intensity is proportional to the square of the ferromagnetic moment. Using the XMLD sum rule and cluster-model calculation, it has been shown that more Mn 3$d$ electrons are distributed in orbitals elongated along the direction parallel to the spin polarization than in orbitals elongated in the direction perpendicular to it. The cluster-model calculation has shown that the effect of tensile strain from the SrTiO$_3$ substrate on the XMLD spectra is also consistent with the observed XMLD spectral line shapes.

From the sign of the XMCD spectra, it was found that the spin magnetic moment of the Co ion is aligned parallel to the applied magnetic field and that of the V ion anti-parallel to it, consistent with neutron scattering studies. It was revealed that the excess Co ions at the octahedral site take the trivalent low-spin state, and induce a random potential to the V sublattice. The orbital magnetic moment of the V ion is small although finite, suggesting that the ordered orbitals mainly consists of real-number orbitals.

Jarzynski's nonequilibrium work relation can be understood as the realization of the (hidden) time-generator reciprocal symmetry satisfied for the conditional probability function. To show this, we introduce the reciprocal process where the classical probability theory is expressed with real wave functions, and derive a mathematical relation using the symmetry. We further discuss that the descriptions by the standard Markov process from an initial equilibrium state are indistinguishable from those by the reciprocal process. Then the Jarzynski relation is obtained from the mathematical relation for the Markov processes described by the Fokker-Planck, Kramers and relativistic Kramers equations.

Magnetic anisotropies of ferromagnetic thin films are induced by epitaxial strain from the substrate via strain-induced anisotropy in the orbital magnetic moment and that in the spatial distribution of spin-polarized electrons. However, the preferential orbital occupation in ferromagnetic metallic La$_{1-x}$Sr$_x$MnO$_3$ (LSMO) thin films studied by x-ray linear dichroism (XLD) has always been found out-of-plane for both tensile and compressive epitaxial strain and hence irrespective of the magnetic anisotropy. In order to resolve this mystery, we directly probed the preferential orbital occupation of spin-polarized electrons in LSMO thin films under strain by angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Anisotropy of the spin-density distribution was found to be in-plane for the tensile strain and out-of-plane for the compressive strain, consistent with the observed magnetic anisotropy. The ubiquitous out-of-plane preferential orbital occupation seen by XLD is attributed to the occupation of both spin-up and spin-down out-of-plane orbitals in the surface magnetic dead layer.

The behaviour of quantum systems in non-inertial frames is revisited from the point of view of affine coherent state (ACS) quantization. We restrict our approach to the one-particle dynamics confined in a rotating plane about a fixed axis. This plane is considered as punctured due to the existence of the rotation center, which is viewed as a singularity. The corresponding phase space is the affine group of the plane and the ACS quantization enables us to quantize the system by respecting the affine symmetry of the true phase space. Our formulation predicts the appearance of an additional quantum centrifugal term, besides the usual angular momentum one, which prevents the particle to reach the singular rotation center. Moreover it helps us to understand why two different non-inertial Schrödinger equations are obtained in previous works. The validity of our equation can be confirmed experimentally by observing the harmonic oscillator bound states and the critical angular velocity for their existence.

We discuss the systematic expansion of the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation with the help of the eigenfunctions of the time-dependent Fokker-Planck operator. The expansion parameter is the time derivative of the external parameter which controls the form of an external potential. Our expansion corresponds to the perturbative calculation of the adiabatic motion in quantum mechanics. With this method, we derive a new formula to calculate the irreversible work order by order, which is expressed as the expectation value with a pseudo density matrix. Applying this method to the case of the harmonic potential, we show that the first order term of the expansion gives the exact result. Because we do not need to solve the coupled differential equations of moments, our method simplifies the calculations of various functions such as the fluctuation of the irreversible work per unit time. We further investigate the exact optimized protocol to minimize the irreversible work by calculating its variation with respect to the control parameter itself.

A computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system that provides an objective measure to endoscopists during colorectal endoscopic examinations would be of great value. In this study, we describe a newly developed CAD system that provides real-time objective measures. Our system captures the video stream from an endoscopic system and transfers it to a desktop computer. The captured video stream is then classified by a pretrained classifier and the results are displayed on a monitor. The experimental results show that our developed system works efficiently in actual endoscopic examinations and is medically significant.

This paper proposes a method for domain adaptation that extends the maximum margin domain transfer (MMDT) proposed by Hoffman et al., by introducing L2 distance constraints between samples of different domains; thus, our method is denoted as MMDTL2. Motivated by the differences between the images taken by narrow band imaging (NBI) endoscopic devices, we utilize different NBI devices as different domains and estimate the transformations between samples of different domains, i.e., image samples taken by different NBI endoscope systems. We first formulate the problem in the primal form, and then derive the dual form with much lesser computational costs as compared to the naive approach. From our experimental results using NBI image datasets from two different NBI endoscopic devices, we find that MMDTL2 is better than MMDT and also support vector machines without adaptation, especially when NBI image features are high-dimensional and the per-class training samples are greater than 20.

We review several facets of the hydrodynamic description of the relativistic heavy ion collisions, starting from the historical motivation to the present understandings of the observed collective aspects of experimental data, especially those of the most recent RHIC and LHC results. In this report, we particularly focus on the conceptual questions and the physical foundations of the validity of the hydrodynamic approach itself. We also discuss recent efforts to clarify some of the points in this direction, such as the various forms of derivations of relativistic hydrodynamics together with the limitations intrinsic to the traditional approaches, variational approaches, known analytic solutions for special cases, and several new theoretical developments. Throughout this review, we stress the role of course-graining procedure in the hydrodynamic description and discuss its relation to the physical observables through the analysis of a hydrodynamic map** of a microscopic transport model. Several questions to be answered to clarify the physics of collective phenomena in the relativistic heavy ion collisions are pointed out.

We have investigated the magnetic properties of SRO thin films with varying thicknesses fabricated on SrTiO3(001) substrates by soft x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at the Ru M2,3 edge. Results have shown that, with decreasing film thickness, the film changes from ferromagnetic to non-magnetic around 3monolayer thickness, consistent with previous magnetization and magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements. The orbital magnetic moment perpendicular to the film was found to be ~ 0.1μB/Ru atom, and remained nearly unchanged with decreasing film thickness while the spin magnetic moment decreases. Mechanism for the formation of the orbital magnetic moment is discussed based on the electronic structure of the compressively strained SRO film.

In order to investigate the mechanism of ferromagnetic ordering in the new n-type magnetic semiconductor (In,Fe)As co-doped with Be, we have performed X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic samples. The spectral line shapes suggest that the ferromagnetism is intrinsic originating from Fe atoms incorporated into the Zinc-blende-type InAs lattice. The magnetization curves of Fe measured by XMCD were well reproduced by the superposition of a Langevin function representing superparamagnetic (SPM) behavior of nano-scale ferromagnetic domains and a T-linear function representing Curie-Weiss paramagnetism even much above the Curie temperatures. The data at 20 K showed a deviation from the Langevin behavior, suggesting a gradual establishment of macroscopic ferromagnetism on lowering temperature. The existence of nano-scale ferromagnetic domains indicated by the SPM behavior suggests spatial fluctuations of Fe concentration on the nano-scale.

In particular, the Mn composition ($β$) dependences of the Mn and Co magnetic moments were investigated. The experimental spin magnetic moments of Mn, $m_\mathrm{spin}$(Mn), derived from XMCD weakly decreased with increasing Mn composition $β$ in going from Mn-deficient to Mn-rich CMS films. This behavior was explained by first-principles calculations based on the antisite-based site-specific formula unit (SSFU) composition model, which assumes the formation of only antisite defect, not vacancies, to accommodate off-stoichiometry. Furthermore, the experimental spin magnetic moments of Co, $m_\mathrm{spin}$(Co), also weakly decreased with increasing Mn composition. This behavior was consistently explained by the antisite-based SSFU model, in particular, by the decrease in the concentration of Co$_\mathrm{Mn}$ antisites detrimental to the half-metallicity of CMS with increasing $β$. This finding is consistent with the higher TMR ratios which have been observed for CMS/MgO/CMS MTJs with Mn-rich CMS electrodes.

Classicalization of Quantum Variables and Quantum-Classical Hybrids
Authors:

Abstract:
The extraction of classical degrees of freedom in quantum mechanics is studied in the stochastic variational method. By using this classicalization, a hybrid model constructed from quantum and classical variables (quantum-classical hybrids) is derived. In this procedure, conservation laws such as energy are maintained, and Ehrenfest's theorem is still satisfied with modification. The criterion for…

We present a variational approach for relativistic ideal hydrodynamics interacting with electromagnetic fields. The momentum of fluid is introduced as the canonical conjugate variable of the position of a fluid element, which coincides with the conserved quantity derived from the Noether theorem. We further show that our formulation can reproduce the usual electromagnetic hydrodynamics which is obtained so as to satisfy the conservation of the inertia of fluid motion.

Starting from the linear sigma model with constituent quarks we derive the chiral fluid dynamics where hydrodynamic equations for the quark fluid are coupled to the equation of motion for the order-parameter field. In a static system at thermal equilibrium this model leads to a chiral phase transition which, depending on the choice of the quark-meson coupling constant, could be a crossover or a first order one. We investigate the stability of the chiral fluid in the static and expanding backgrounds by considering the evolution of perturbations with respect to the mean-field solution. In the static background the spectrum of plane-wave perturbations consists of two branches, one corresponding to the sound waves and another to the sigma-meson excitations. For large couplings these two branches "cross" and the excitation spectrum acquires exponentially growing modes. The stability analysis is also done for the Bjorken-like background solution by explicitly solving the time-dependent differential equation for perturbations in the eta-space. In this case the growth rate of unstable modes is significantly reduced.

We have investigated the electronic and magnetic properties of Co-doped Pr0.8Ca0.2MnO3 thin films using various spectroscopic techniques. X-ray absorption and hard x-ray photoemission spectroscopy revealed that the substituted Co ions are in the divalent state, resulting in hole do** on the Mn atoms. Studies of element-selective magnetic properties by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism found a large orbital magnetic moment for the Co ions. These spectroscopic studies reveal that the substituted Co ions play several roles of hole do** for Mn, ferromagnetic superexchange coupling between the Co2+ and Mn4+ ions, and orbital magnetism of the Co2+ ions. Competition among these complex interactions produces the unique electronic and magnetic behaviors including enhanced coercivity of the Co-doped Pr0.8Ca0.2MnO3.

Metallic transition-metal oxides undergo a metal-to-insulator transition (MIT) as the film thickness decreases across a ritical thickness of several monolayers (MLs), but its driving mechanism remains controversial. We have studied the thickness-dependent MIT of the ferromagnetic metal La$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnO$_3$ by x-ray absorption spectroscopy and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. As the film thickness was decreased across the critical thickness of the MIT (6-8 ML), a gradual decrease of the ferromagnetic signals and a concomitant increase of paramagnetic signals were observed, while the Mn valence abruptly decreased towards Mn$^{3+}$. These observations suggest that the ferromagnetic phase gradually and most likely inhomogeneously turns into the paramagnetic phase and both phases abruptly become insulating at the critical thickness.

In the perovskite-type Ca$_{1-x}$Ce$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$ (CCMO), one can control the transport and magnetic properties through varying Ce content. In the perovskite-type Ca$_{1-x}$Ce$_{x}$MnO$_{3}$ (CCMO), one can control the transport and magnetic properties through varying Ce content. In the case of thin films, the properties can also be controlled by epitaxial strain from the substrate through changing it such as YAlO$_{3}$ (YAO), NdAlO$_{3}$ (NAO), and LaSrAlO$_{4}$ (LSAO). However, one cannot measure the magnetization of thin films on NAO substrates by conventional magnetization measurements because of the strong paramagnetic signals from the Nd$^{3+}$ ions. In order to eliminate the influence of Nd$^{3+}$ and to identify magnetic phases of the CCMO thin films, we have performed element-selective X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements of the Mn 2{\it p} core level. By studying the anisotropy of the XMCD intensity, we could unambiguously determine the magnetic phase diagram of the CCMO thin films.
